OOC:
Going to reconstruct the current sequence for context. Nudge me if I missed anything:
Lining up as Hastali suggested, the party ventures down the stairs past the door Mart just opened. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, quiet save for the slap and scraping of their leather soles against the wrought stone under their feet. The stairwell takes them slightly past the pile of bones at the bottom. They appear to be human; other partial skeletons litter the chamber besides, tangled with knots of old spider webbing.

The chamber is wide, somewhat resembling the previous chamber with the text inlaid across the floor. This one, however, has no such text carved into the floor and its original purpose is, at first glance, unclear. An initial assessment of the chamber will reveal two immediate details: there is another heavy wooden door set in the wall straight across from the stairwell, and a second set in the wall to the right.

The first door is notable for being the evident site of a recent scuffle, with a familiar-looking giant spider laying curled up not four feet away from it. A flamberge style dagger protrudes from between its mandibles; the beast is quite apparently dead.

The dust in front of the other door is, by comparison, relatively undisturbed.

Mart is at first more interested in the bones than anything else. "Why are all these bones here? Did these people get trapped down here?" He inspects them more closely as they move past. When he notices the torch sputtering, he takes another from his backpack to light it.
OOC:
Mart, -1 torch.
Only after that he notices the scene in the chamber. "Oh my!" He exclaims. "Well it looks like those spiders can indeed be killed." He leaves the inspection of the scene to the others.

Magnus trails down the stairs behind the other two, peering into the gloom past the torchlight. Upon catching sight of the tableau near the far door, he exclaims: "What in the abrogated city of dust did THAT?"

"Magnus, do you have any idea how deep this tomb goes? At this rate we could be here for days."

Magnus, examining the scene of the apparent spider attack, looks up, frowns, and considers the question. "Historically, these tombs tended to vary in size and complexity, I think. Probably depending on the importance of who was being buried. Depending on the time frame, we should be looking at a single floor or a split level with several connecting chambers. The single floor theory is out, since we already found stairs in two places." He nudges a bone with his foot. It tumbles from the pile.

"I'd say this tomb's king ranks up there with the important ones, so that tracks. We may have to search two levels. No more than three tops if I know anything about these musty old tombs. I've never been in one, of course, but I've read a couple of books."
OOC:

Roll: Mart's examination reveals that the bones are human, too old to be part of any recent events. Possibly servants entombed with their king or past spider victims. A glimmer during the search catches his eye and he discovers a green gem likely worth 170 coins if sold to a respectable merchant. Aside from the spider itself, none of the corpses present are recent enough to have been part of the fight.

Mart, +1 gem worth ~170 coins pending a proper barter. Mart can attempt to pocket it without being noticed or it can be distributed however the party decides.
The disturbance patterns in the dust combined with the proximity of the scuffle with the spider suggests whatever party came through before almost certainly used the door nearest the spider. The dust around the other door seems relatively undisturbed with no sign of it having opened recently.

OOC:
I think we still need some info on Hastali's search action to look for clues. Or perhaps a roll is needed there.
Mart picks up the gem and gives it a good look in the torch light. "This might fetch a pretty penny." He says, showing the found treasure to Hastali. "We'll sell it once we get to a market." He puts it in his pocket for now.

"Three floors, huh? That's quite a bit. And we'll have to keep watching our backs from now on." He says to himself somewhat worriedly.

"These bones are definitely not recent additions. Likely that they were buried here when the tomb was built." He concludes from inspecting the bones. "Found anything over there?" He asks his companions.
Aug 19, 2026 3:12 am
OOC:
Hastali's careful inspection of the dead spider and the site of the apparent battle yields no further clues. Beyond the flamberge dagger wedged in its mandibles and the disturbed dust as evidence of the survivors' passage, no other signs are evident. Both doors are closed. The knife is free for the taking if someone wants to pull it loose and wipe off the ichor but it conveys no special powers and bears no hallmarks of any special craftsmanship.
Aug 20, 2026 5:52 pm
Hastali extracts the knife from the spider and then says that if no one objects, he'll take the knife himself. Then, partly thinking aloud and partly turning to his companions, he wonders where best to proceed. "On the one hand, it's likely we'll encounter whoever killed this beast, and perhaps the sooner we do so, the better, if they're hostile, as I unfortunately believe they are likely." "The other road, however, is untouched and therefore must still contain its treasures." "What do you think?"
Aug 22, 2026 3:11 pm
"Though I don't feel very happy heading into a fight... Mart says. "Perhaps it's best we take care of whatever it is that's come in here with us." He points to the door where that shows it's recently been travelled.
Aug 22, 2026 3:19 pm
OOC:
If Magnus has no objection, I'd say the next move is to continue toward the door already used by the others (whoever they are). In the usual formation: Hastali, Mart, Magnus. Always very careful and cautious, of course.
Aug 25, 2026 8:32 am
OOC:
Hastali: +1 flamberge style knife
Hastali takes point again, with Mart carrying the torch and Magnus guarding the rear.

Magnus eyes the dead spider askance on his way past. "I suspect whoever broke into the tomb ahead of us is after the same thing we are. If so, I imagine we'll have to deal with them sooner or later... if the spiders don't."

The door opens easily enough, revealing a wide chamber much like the previous one, but this one features stacked wooden coffins lining two of the walls. A few of the stacks have been pushed over and broken, but what draws the party's attention is the room's other contents: a trio of humanoids similar in appearance to the corpse found upstairs: about half the size of a man, slightly bent or hunched, with green-black and slightly oily skin. Two of them have fallen; the remaining one stands against what appears to be another trio of living mushrooms. Its dagger flashes in the dim torchlight and it's staring in disbelief at its fallen comrades.

The fungoid nearest the creature makes a rude burbling noise and takes a swipe with a root-like claw. The creature dodges, attempts a draw cut with the knife which misses, then emits a gibbering shriek as the other mushrooms move in. Apparently realizing it's outnumbered, it makes a break for the door... barreling right toward the party now standing in front of the door.

What is the party's reaction?
OOC:
Magnus now recognizes the humanoid from some of the old stories: goblins!

Mart is surprised by how many beings are down here in this tomb. He expected to fine one, maybe two opponents but four was more than he had hoped for. As the goblin creature approached he though This guy is fleeing. His companions have fallen and he's lost hope. Though he couldn't be sure, as he had no real knowledge of these humanoids, it seemed like a plausible conclusion.

Perhaps this fleeing goblin could become an asset to them. "We have been sent here to help you." He speaks out loud to the goblin. "Stand with us and we will be victorious!" He tried his best to bring resolve into his voice. Even if the creature didn't understand the words, it might understand the sentiment. To help with that sentiment, he makes a fist with his free hand and points his torch at a fungoid.
OOC:
I'm trying to convince the goblin to help us defeat the fungoids. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I think in this case I can use my descriptor "Filled with bullshit" as I'm basically lying to try and persuade it.
If not, then just take my first roll only.

Rolls

Persuade the goblin - (1d6)

(3) = 3

In case my descriptor applies, an extra d6 - (1d6)

(4) = 4

Hastali agrees with Mart’s course of action and tries to help him.
OOC:
In case we need to roll, GM, please remind me: how do I help?
However, if the goblin turns out to be hostile and tries to attack the group, Hastali stands ready to strike it with his warhammer.
OOC:
In that case, he’ll definitely use the hammer die

Had to think on this one a bit. Here's what I've got.
OOC:
Reviewing Options - Will Points
[ +- ] Spoiler
If you'd rather save the points and play it straight there's another option:
[ +- ] Spoiler
The two ideas aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, either.

Considering the dice pool, I'd say the Filled with BS/Good at Talking character trait is a point of advantage for Mart. There's also a language barrier assuming no one knows the goblin tongue. This creature is also not thinking about parlay, it's moving at speed away from the fungus creatures. This cancels out to one die, I think. So CONDITIONALLY, we will use the three (no), HOWEVER...

If Hastali can add a detail to the scene that would assist, I'll assess the roll with both dice and we'll use the four (yes). Tartarosso, I recommend that you work out your move proposal before looking at the spoilers at the bottom if you can help it (not a hard rule, it's just what I think is probably the most fun way to play it). Do read the ones up top, though; those lay out the options.

If we use the NO:

If we use the YES:

OOC:
Makes sense that my bonus is hindered by the creature's current disposition. I didn't think about that :)
I'm willing to spend 1 or 2 will points in this case. It sounds like a fun plot twist to have the goblin join us, kinda.
Do I still need to do extra rolls?
Sep 3, 2026 3:50 pm
OOC:
If you're spending points for extra dice, go ahead and roll as many dice as you decide to spend points for. If you're flipping a pip (moving the existing result up or down by one or more) no other dice are needed; just let me know what value you're flipping to and I'll deduct the points.

You both currently have four Will points.
Sep 3, 2026 7:39 pm
OOC:
I'll flip a pip and turn my rolled 3 into a 4.
Sep 4, 2026 6:50 am
OOC:
That bumps Mart's Will back to 3 and flips the answer to 'yes'.
The goblin looks confused for a moment, then moves behind Mart, putting him between it and the fungus creatures. It gibbers incoherently while hopping up and down and waving its knife toward its former adversaries.

Magnus shoots the goblin a skeptical glance, but after satisfying himself that it isn't stabbing Mart in the back, turns his attention to its former assailants.

The fungoids, which were chasing the goblin, are now waddle-hopping toward the party.
Sep 4, 2026 8:55 am
Mart himself is surprised that he managed to convince the goblin, causing him to lose focus for a second. But then he turns his attention to the fungoids. Of course they looked like mushrooms, was that at all useful to know? Could he remember anything of note about fungi right now? Like what they fear. They probably don't like fire, much. went through his mind.

While thinking about it, he waves the torch in front of him to hopefully deter the creatures.
OOC:
I'm applying 'practical biologist' but I also think I lose a die for not ever seeing a fungoid before. So just rolling 1d6.
Then I'll wait for Tartarosso to make a move.

Rolls

Do I know anything about fungoids? - (1d6)

(6) = 6

Sep 5, 2026 6:21 pm
OOC:
Is there a roll I can make to see if my time with the Hittish army has given me any knowledge of these fungoids? I'd also like to see if there's anything in the room that can prevent us from fighting, or at least help us. If a fight is inevitable, I'll stand in front of the fungoids and use both my maul and my "I do not fear the unknown" trait as bonus dice.
Hastali tries to recall if he's ever seen such creatures during his service in the Hittish army, or at least the stories of any comrades who've faced such creatures. Meanwhile, he scans the room carefully to see if there's anything that can help them in the fight, or even avoid it altogether. Aware of the danger, he prepares himself with his maul to face the situation.
Sep 8, 2026 9:16 am
OOC:
That 6 would be a 'yes, and'...
Fungoids:
[ +- ] Spoiler
Hastali's Observations:
OOC:
I would say that fungoids are known (generally as above) in Hittish folklore, particularly in fanciful tales told to children, but that neither Hastali or anyone in his circles has ever seen one.

A glance around the chamber reveals a large stone vaulted architecture style similar to the tomb's other chambers scouted by the party. The wooden coffins stacked along certain walls might have made for handy obstacles with time to prepare. With hostile creatures only a few strides from attacking the party, however, the most likely immediate courses of action are engaging the fungoids or exiting the way the party came in.
Sep 8, 2026 11:09 am
OOC:
I have two suggestions: 1) We engage the fungoids in combat. 2) We leave the room, barricade the door, and try to gather enough material to use as fuel for incendiary weapons against the fungoids. What do you think? @TheGenerator
Sep 8, 2026 7:29 pm
OOC:
I'm down to fight. We've avoided fighting the spiders and the goblin, so let's stick it to the mushrooms 😁
"These are fungoids." Mart tells the others. "Nasty little creatures who live underground. They hate fire and bright lights. We'll need to deal with them."
As the fungoids get closer, Mart tries to jab one of them with his lit torch. "let's see if they're flammable."

Rolls

Jab with a torch - (1d6)

(4) = 4

Sep 9, 2026 7:40 am
OOC:
Conditions for this turn:
+1 advantage to party rolls since the fungoids are reacting to torch Mart brandished at them.
+1 advantage to any attacks that are fire/light based.

The creatures' root/claw appendages will cancel the bonus die from a single weapon.

Reminder Note: if everything cancels out to zero, that's a neutral (one die) roll. We only roll with disadvantage if there are one or more disadvantages remaining after everything else cancels out.
Two fungoids move away from Mart's torch, barely avoiding the range of his jab. The lumpy one turns to engage Magnus, who doesn't have a torch while the mottled one heads for Hastali, who also doesn't have a torch. The tallest (and angriest looking) of them lurches in from behind the others, bringing his root/claw appendages up to rake Mart's torch away.

Magnus mutters an oath under his breath and raises his knife, stepping away slightly to give himself and Mart some room to move.
