Orrid has been following rumors of a hiden wizard’s tower deep in the woods. Those that have stumbled upon it report the tower to be guarded by magics but the wizard is known to accept petitioners who can make it to the inside of his tower. Though the world is full of magic you know that the common fold often fear it, especially if they have no gift or local healer or alchemist to help them see and understand it as part of their everyday lives.

After hours of searching through dense forests and winding trails, the trees part to reveal a hidden valley shrouded in mist. At its center stands the tower, a slender spire of weathered stone rising defiantly against the sky. Vines and moss cling to its walls, but faint magical glyph etched into the stone occasionally flicker with an otherworldly glow, hinting at the power that once pulsed within.

As you enter the small valley and approach the tower base you see from a distance that the entrance is a heavy wooden door reinforced with bands of iron. The wood looks ancient but sturdy, and a faint glow of magic surrounds it. A carved sigil of a crescent moon, the wizard’s personal mark, is faintly visible above the door. The meadow around the tower is eerily silent and around its perimeter are small stone blocks with the same mark you see above the door etched into each, clearly marking the boundary to the wizards lands.

Wow! This looks like the mark of a wizard! I must try to find him
Nov 12, 2025 9:54 pm
I want to use perception to check out the door before entering. If there's nothing more to see I'll just enter
Nov 13, 2025 2:34 am
Moving into the clearing to inspect the tower closer you wade through the tall soft grass. A single path from the towers door lead to the woods to the east. Looking the tower up and down you see it is built of stone and at least 3 stories tall, based on windows you see. However you note that either the first floor is taller or it and the second both do not have any windows as the only opening you see near the base of the tower is the single large door. Roll a test with advantage (3d6) to spot additional information.

The Polar Karhu approaches the tower, her focus on the plants, until she notices a lone figure heading for the same goal. Aurora adjusts her path, so she meets the other individual before reaching the tower. Her halberd gripped tightly, in case the meeting does not go friendly, but she hopes to be able to avoid conflict.

As Orrid draws near the tower a sound is hear, a soft susuration, a whisper of sliding or rubbing. Trying to focus Orrid is distracted by the appearance and approach of the large ursine figure. As the two figures face off the tall grass around swirls without a breeze and a sense of some presence drawing near begins to press on both of you increasing the tension. A faint trembling of the ground under your feet gives but a moments notice before you feel yourselves falling into a hole the opens under each of your feet.I need a save test from each of you.

The tower is as solid as ever but the surrounding are gives an odd feeling. Tjhe medow around the tower is clear of any variation save the ocasional rock or flowering plant. No trees or bushes are in the clearing and save the tower itself it contain only grass, and stillness. Orrid sees nothing else at the moment but does notice a distinct lack of . . . something. Something is missing from this area. Orrid can not quite pin down what is missing but know is it not a critical thing and likely the distraction f the current situation is just preventing the full realization from settling in.

"I am Aurora, from the family Ursa. How may I call you?"
She steps towards the stranger, carefully watching their surroundings. The grip on her halberd making it clear, that she can swiftly change into an attack stance if needed, yet her posture is clearly not hostile.

"Orrid! My Names Orrid" he says nervously while putting up his hands in an effort to show he means no harm "I came from a small village in search of a cure. My village is dying....We've tried everything!" He's getting visibly upset and starting to quiver"I am the apprentice of the village Shaman. He instructed me to find a wizard for the cure" He hangs his head in silence for a moment lost in thought. Suddenly his head pops back up "Healer you say? While you could be helpful I fear something far worse plagues us. We're just simple woodland folk. I must find a wizard at all costs! I may not look like much but i do know how to survive!" he looks at the tower in front of them "I must admit i am somewhat frightened by all of this. Perhaps you can help me?... wait...I apologize i am getting too far ahead of myself" Orrid Looks back at Ursa "Nice to meet you Ursa!" He says while he attempts to looks civilized and fails to do so

She looks concerned, as this information may mean that there is something larger at work, something that may effect more than just these two villages.

The mound continues to grow in size as it draws near. Now well over 10 feet tall and 30 wide, it's edges move up to where you stand. Still the only sound is the rushing of grass. Then with a surge it rushes you and you find yourselves being lifted as the hill swells under your feet as it narrows and the incline facing you become very steep, causing you to stumble and step back to keep you footing. This continues and you realize you are being herded away from the tower.

[ +- ] Spell Touched
OOC:
You can attempt it t. Moving the grass is not a problem but moving a mound of dirt that large is beyond spell touched capabilities with a single use. However you can try and sense the cause of the wave as Spell-touched lets you sense magic (determine information about spells) and Shaman lets you sense spirits (feel and talk with them, including summoned elementals). The way I think of it is that while the abilities have limits they can still do impressive things if arranged to maximize their effect. Like use a lever to start a boulder rolling vs trying to push it directly. Also you can try working with each other to combine your traits effects.

Other mundane options are also open to attempts, climb the hill, out run it, etc

Can you try another color? I use light or dark mode depending on environment and cyan is hard to read on white, Thanks

Test to try and part the earth wave - (2d6)

(64) = 10

Nov 19, 2025 2:27 pm
Orrid stretches out their senses to call a spirit, only to immediately come into direct contact with an Earth Child soul. These spirits are young and weak, by spirit standards. Though this one is moving more earth than usual Orrid can tell it is simple and currently doing something it feels compelled to do but find extremely tedious and boring. It seems incredibly interested only on seeing just how much earth it can control and how sharp an incline it can form without harming the grass.

Aurora opened her mage sense only to be flooded with a tangle of spells around and over the tower. Focusing her arcane sense she is able to find a small tether anchor to the tower and something under the grassy hill you are now continuously sliding down and it pushes you towards the edge of the clearing.
Nov 19, 2025 2:29 pm
OOC:
colors are both better, thanks

Orrid can personally sense and communicate with spirits nearby though actually summoning one for a specific task will greatly enhance either ability.
Nov 20, 2025 8:03 am
"There is a lot of magic here. Many spells placed around and all over the tower. I can't do much about that amount of magic. And one I can push against, but I am not strong enough to quickly break that spell...can I assist you in any way?", she says in a strained voice, trying to stop the flow or break it, so they cann pass through a path between the waves.
Nov 20, 2025 1:34 pm
OOC:
Aurora may not be able to directly counter the effects of the elemental moving the earth but with the successful sensing of the spell (previous roll) it is within your spell touched ability to try and affect the magic of the spell itself, with another roll. However the results would be less controlled, like putting a wedge on a railroad track to derail a train. Not strong enough to stop the train directly but just enough to break it nonetheless.

Sorry for such a late response. Im having a hard time weighing my options here. If I attempt to speak with the spirit do i need to make another roll, or can i just speak with it since I've already contacted it?
Nov 21, 2025 1:44 am
OOC:
short answer : you can just talk to it
Long answer : shaman can usually talk to any spirit they are aware of. Some may be harder but this is the exception and not the rule. Getting then to listen to you and do as you ask is another matter. Think of this one as some one else's pet that you are trying to call over. You would need to roll to try and get it to disobey or change hour or pineys it's orders. But just communicating isn't an issue at this time

A short while later you reach the edge of the meadow and cease being pushed further. The hill settles down, but before it does you notice that the ground along the border shows some cracks before the soil settles back and realize the elemental could not exert any influence to the land beyond the wizards border stones. As the large hill settles down into a small mound only a few paces wide and a foot tall or so Orrid again feels the Earth Child speaking Job is done, but I have other work so can not talk long. Is the dirt outside the glade well tended and soft like mine?

Aurora noticed that as they passed the border the stones emitted a slight pulse of energy but it was directed at the hill and not the two of you.
Nov 22, 2025 9:29 am
"I think...we could use those stones to reach the tower. The spirit is stopped by them. Or you could try to challenge it whether we are able to cross above the hill it creates fast enough to pass to the tower..., she suggests, inspecting the stone to see if they can be removed and carried or if she could replicate the effect.
Nov 22, 2025 7:27 pm
The stones are each about the size of a persons head. As such they are heavy but not immovable. The stones are connected to each other and the tower by some sort of enchantment but Aurora would need to study it (roll spell touched) to try and discern what the effect of the spell and/or moving the stone might be.

[ +- ] Focus
OOC:
Technically TinyD6 only allows focus in combat but I allow it to be used at any time when you can slow dwon and spend time to ensure success. Basically in most relaxed situations anything with a 4 or higher will be a success. This just allows thing to be less frustrating and keep moving.
As far as Uarora can tell the spells tied to the stones are are based on detection, tied to the tower when triggered, and a basic protection spell. The elemental likely could not move beyond them due to the stones alerting the tower and the spell from the tower pulling it back. Moving the stone will not have any immediate effect from the spells on the stone but will likely trigger an alarm in the Tower. You may be able silence (With a successful spell touched test) one or possibly two stones at the most.

As you ponder the situation you realize that so far all the magic has not been lethal, or even harmful. But again all you have done is some trespassing, so far.

I added the option of rolling with advantage (3d6) but with the chance of a penalty. Orrid calls to the spirits but is soon finds that none are helpful at all, to the point they do not even present themselves directly. Concerned there is something preventing the spirits from answering the call Orrid soon realizes it is that none of the spirits can meet her need and give advice on what to do. All that is learned is that spirits avoid this place as the wizard does not like visitors or trespassers. They do not fear him but do know not to enter his glade of they will suffer. However, Orrid is confident the spirits are there to help should a different need be presented but do not want to linger near the tower unless they feel they can be of help.
OOC:
When there is no reason more time or repeated attempts cant be spend to gain a desired result then even if you roll bad it just indicates that the actions are less effective, as above, and not a total failure. I typically only take the first roll, but if you feel a second attempt might succeed then you can reroll as Orrid did, with disadvantage. However any successful 2nd attempt after a failed 1st will not be a complete success or without drawbacks.
Aurora examine the stones and discovers that silencing the alarm or changing one to trigger early and prevent the elemental from getting to near, but not both, should be possible.
Nov 25, 2025 3:42 pm

Orrid expands the scope of their examination and notices that the stones follow a pattern with some of them being a bit larger or smaller. The two stones by the path are the largest and have additional marking on them while spread around the glade the smallest, which would still require 2 hands to lift and carry, are small and spread out with larger stones between them.

The elemental by this point has settled back down to where you can barely notice it and though it still loiters near you it no longer tries to talk with Orrid since the druid shifted their focus to the area and stopped talking with it. The glade is quite large and you wonder if it would be possible to just bypass the elemental by drawing it to the far side of the glace form you then racing to the tower. It did not move with extreme speeds while it was pushing you, so perhaps that might work?
Nov 25, 2025 8:44 pm
After pondering a bit Orrid speaks to Ursa I believe these stones act as some sort of barrier or marker for the elemental that pushed us back. If we can figure out a way to lure it in the opposite direction or create a distraction I think it would buy us time to make a run for the tower Orrid points at the stone's Maybe if we tried moving these stones around we can create a distraction but I am a little hesitant to touch them Orrid Looks towards the tower then back at Ursa and continues What do you think Ursa?

Nov 30, 2025 1:35 am
You get about half way to the tower again before you notice the elemental react to your approach. It moves closer but stops just as the small hill gets under Aurora's feet. Pressing on by simply walking "up hill" the rest of the way you soon make it to the tower. Once you reach to tower the elemental seems to loose interest in you and slowly begins to wander off and subside into the soil once more.

Looking the tower up and down you see it is built of stone and at least 3 stories tall, based on windows you see. However you note that either the first floor is taller or it and the second both do not have any windows as the only opening you see near the base of the tower is the single large door. The door opens easily, followed by a flash from the glowing runes and a loud thunderclap. You are both slightly startled but at no harm is done you quickly settle your nerves. Pushing the door open more you look inside to see a dimly lit by a floating orb that glows a dull orange. A heavily bound book rests on a ornately carved wooden table to one side of the room while stone stairs leading up are on the other side of the room. Nothing moves within and you step inside.

As you do, both of your senses shift and now you can sense nothing outside the tower even though the door remains open. A quick test reveals the door has not lock and you can come as go as you please. Reassured you move over to the table to examine the book. You find the top of the table covered with a plaque with lines of glyphs on it. As you see them their meaning instantly jumps to the front of your mind and your presume some magic allows all to know what it says regardless of their level of learning.
Plaque says:
TOWER RULES:

Open the book and speak your desires before proceeding.

No weapons drawn unless expressly required.

No fire spells. And no ice spells. Or lightning. Actually—just don’t cast anything unless you’re told you may.

You may speak to my constructs. You may not insult them. They gossip.

Breaking anything will be counted as failure, unless it is something I already hated.

There are no time limits. There are patience limits.

If you attempt to cheat or skip a trial by any means the warding glyph will turn you inside out and back again. Slowly."

If you succeed in all trials:

Aurora carefully reads the plaque.
"Interesting. These are the rules we need to keep to be able to speak to the wizard. No spells, unless we are asked to cast. No insults, but we can speak with constructs in the tower. No weapons, unless asked to draw them. No breaking things. We have as much time as we need, but patience is limited. Cheating or skipping trials will be severly punished. The trials start, once we open the book and speak our desires", says Ursa thoughtfully.

As the words are spoken tubes appear on the blank pages and you hear a clock from the top of the stairs.

Moving up the narrow stone stairs that follow the curve of the tower you soon reach a small antechamber that opens into a much larger room beyond. A small brass plaque on the stairwell wall:
plaque says:
Two guardians watch one treasure,
Both loyal, both blind.
One sees only the fire within,
One hears only the ticking of time.
The treasure breaks when pulled both ways.
To heal it, set neither above the other.
Looking out into the vast room that is clearly larger than it should be based on the towers size from the outside, you see a vast circular hall with a domed ceiling of shimmering runes. Two massive constructs, about 9 feet tall, stand on opposite sides of the room, each partially damaged and glaring with magically lit eyes.

To the left is a Colossus of Clay. It is covered is cracks and lumbers awkwardly as it advances on the other and bellows in a rage filled voice
Thief! Return my heartstone!

To your right is a Bronze figure of polished plates, etched glyphs, that move into a guard position with precise movements. It replies in a flat, emotionless voice I took nothing. You are faulty and must be restrained until repairs are maid to prevent damage to yourself or the tower.

As you look over the tableau a soft chime resounds and and melodious voice speaks is heard

A mind too rigid breaks. A heart too wild burns. Wisdom walks between. Spells and weapons may be used to attack and defend from the two golems.

At the sound of the chime, both golems turn to yow and call out for your aid.

The Clay one roars Help me destroy the Bronze Traitor! It stole my Heartstone! It dulls my fire to weaken me!

The Bronze one speaks in cold tones Aid me in subduing the Clay One. It is malfunctioning. The Heartstone shattered by its own instability.
Dec 5, 2025 8:47 am
Ursa spoke the same words together with Orrid and walks up the stairs with him. She listens to the Golems, after she read the plate.

"Tell me, Golem of Clay, why do you think the Bronze one destroyed your heartstone? Can you tell me what happened?", she asks carefully, trying to learn more about the situation to find a solution where no weapons may be needed.
Dec 7, 2025 2:57 pm
The Clay golem rumbles I was performing my duties when this one and waves at the Bronze golem interfered and deliberately caused the Heartstone to explode and waves to the middle of the room where you see a small glowing pedestal with shattered crystal fragments scattered around it.

Orrid thinks carefully about the plaque after reading it carefully and says To Heal it set neither above the other. I suppose that means we shouldn't take sides? What a strange predicament Orrid thinks while keeping his eyes on the statues I believe you have the right idea Ursa. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this without taking sides and hopefully we don't have to fight our way out of this

I moved to suppress the unauthorized activity.
The illogical activities escalated and it drew so much power that the supply overloaded resulting in an explosion.
The Clay Animatron is obviously not following the prescribed behavior and sjould be disabled for repairs. .

The Golems seem to care little for your words, fully intent on each other, at this point in time.

Ursa is indeed able to sense magic coming from several of the larger crystal shards. Though all the smaller fragments, and indeed even the dust, show traces of former enchantment they have lost too much to be of use. Aurora quickly spots 6 larger fragments that still blaze with magic power. The large piece on the pedestal, one embedded on each of the golems, and three more scattered around the room.
Dec 15, 2025 7:48 am
"There are traces of an enchantment. These four and one in each Golem are powerful enough for the enchantment to be strenghtened again. The smaller shards and the dust are too weak to be used" , she says pointing at each of the larger pieces.

Aurora manages to align the crystals and with a pulse of energy to jolts her away the click into place and begin to glow. as they do the two combatants roar. The sound reverberates through the chamber, causing you both to clutch your hands to your ears as you try and dampen the deafening rumble that ascends to a headache inducing keening. The sound stops abruptly and you blink as the room spins and you stagger to your feet. Glancing around you now see the restored pedestal and crystal humming quietly and a long figure where there had been two. Claw covers Bronze accents and the figure rises smoothly to its now 12' height.

The new golem turns to you and gives a half bow Thank you for your assistance. You may proceed towards the master. and with a wave of it's hand the door on the far side of the chamber from where you entered opens to more stairs.

You leave to chamber and begin ascending the stairs to the next level. Again the magic of the tower is brought to mind and you ascent many sets of straight stairs with landings between them. At each landing is a simple lantern and the stairs turn to the left. After passing the 2nd landing you hear a noise of movement ahead of you. Moving cautiously you move to the 3rd and see a small animal hopping in an attempt to get up the next stair. Raising you light you see it is a bird. The rounded head and large eyes identify it as an owl but the color of it's feathers is more like a song bird, with red, blue, and green being the brightest and most dominant feather colors. As your light fills the space and lights up the bird it flinches and turns to face you as it hops back from you and its wings flutter nervously.

Dec 31, 2025 11:52 pm
Aurora moves to dimm the light immediately, bright enough to be able to see outlines, dark enough to not scare the bird.

Aurora gently probes the bird as healing energy flows into it. The clearly broken wing shifts and she guides it back into place where it begins knitting the bones and muscles back into their proper forms. Unfortunately the bird is still unconscious, which might have been a good thing as healing broken bones can be even more painful than breaking them in the first place. By time the healing finishes its breathing has slowed and it seems to have settled into a deep sleep.

Orrid looks over the bird and spots several interesting traits. Unlike any other bird you are familiar with this ones face has a mask pattern around its eyes and what is clearly a rune can be seen on the breast feathers, formed by the shift in the feather coloration. Though either might be natural they seem more deliberate than evolved.

You return to find the bird still sleeping but it alerts and flutters at the sound of your approach. It's movements are stilted and hesitant at first as it still favors the previously wounded wing only to quickly adapt to full mobility. The birds is clearly exhausted still, despite your healing, and it does not move far but does move away as you near it.
