Chapter 4: Trip the Light Fantastic

"This man here is clearly a prisoner to this hag. It'd be morally degrading to not intervene!"

The anger in the Preceptor's voice bounced along the cave walls. Her eyes shifted to stare piercingly at the faerie, preparing for it to react to her outburst.
OOC:
Dire Attention has a range of 5 yards btw. Not sure if Lauretta is close enough to use it.
Nov 24, 2025 10:53 pm
"Lauretta, keep calm. I was being polite and perhaps a bit naive. My experience with fey creatures has been minimal. Having said that, I agree with you and trust your experience in this," Wolfram says, placing a hand of friendship gently on the Preceptor's shoulder.
Nov 25, 2025 1:05 pm
Anastasia's beautiful countenance turns feral at Lauretta's outburst. "Vile, am I? Wicked? I had promised to give you your freedom from this realm. But if you mean to deny me what is mine, then I'll ensure that you suffer a fate worse than my prisoner here!" she snarls. Her fingers curl into claws, but she recoils and hisses as Lauretta fixes her with her dire attention. Lauretta knows that the hag has been telling hte truth--both about being able to grant you your escape, and now about making you pay for your insults!
OOC:
Lauretta's first action in combat will be to use dire attention on the hag. She failed the luck roll so she is cursed and vulnerable. Anybody else who wishes to take the initiative may do so and act now.

The hag has Protecton from Magic: The hag imposes 1 bane on rolls against it from magical effects and it rolls to resist or end magical effects with 1 boon.

Rolls

Luck vs Dire Attention, Protection from Magic - (d20)

(2) = 2

"Unidentified human being, are you a prisoner of this aforementioned woman?" R3N-L3 inquired solemnly over to the prisoner. He sounded completely indifferent to the hag squaring off against the party, except for the fact that his hand now rested on the pommel of his sword, and his shield had shifted slightly.
Nov 30, 2025 9:52 am
Tzal didn't expect that Lauretta would react like that, but it was his mistake because the preceptor is known for her violent outbursts. With her accusation, the scene quickly deteriorated into something chaotic, with the hag preparing to curse them with fey magic. Feeling a strange uneasiness in the air, he could notice something wrong with the arcane energies in the air. Taking up his staff, he pointed it at Anastasia and started casting a jellyfish.
OOC:
Will casting spells be affected by the bane? Wow, I hope that's a crit.

"Please... help... me..." the old man gasps in response to R3N-L3's question. His lips are cracked and dry, his voice little more than a hoarse whisper.

Meanwhile, Woflram hits the hag with an arrow, then Tzal scores a critical hit with his jellyfish, the watery construct wrapping its tentacles around Anastasia. Shrieking in rage, she channels great magical power through her body. The jellyfish boils away into vapor, her wounds heal before your eyes, and she stand straighter, freed from Lauretta's dire attention!
OOC:
The hag uses the third option from her Fury talent. Fury: A hag can use Hag Fire, use Hag Curse, or heal 40 damage and end all afflictions.

@Lcythas: R3N-L3 may act before the end of the round.
Dec 2, 2025 5:27 pm
"That is neither confirmation nor denial. How troublesome these organics are." R3N-L3 noted dispassionately, although he still marched towards the man, sword swinging up and then down as he aimed to cleave away the chains.
OOC:
Let me know if this'd be an attack or just a Might test

OOC:
Strength check is fine.
With a mighty chop, R3N-L3 shatters the prisoner's chains! He sobs with relief, but is too weak to stand on his own. Anastasia lets out another shriek of rage!
OOC:
End of the round. Anybody who want to act first in the second round may now take the initiative!

Dec 5, 2025 7:39 pm
Wolfram sees Anastasia suffer only mildly from their atacks and is sure she will atack the weak prisoner. Though free, he wasn't going to escape under without help. In an affort to delay an attack and possibly allow time for a rescue, Wolfram nocks another arrow and fires at her.

"There's the truth of the ugly thing! Kill the monster!" Lauretta shouted, unbothered by the discernment of the hag's words. Her conscience would not stand a deal with it, even if it meant their freedom from this place.

The glow of the heavenly raiment on the Preceptor left a blur of light trailing as she charged her foe. Energy of the divine radiated from the great axe and the holy symbol dangling from her neck. The evil faerie found itself beneath a mighty, downward cleave.

Rolls

Dire Attention Used (Luck Ends) - (1d20)

(12) = 12

Great Axe - Attack - (1d20+4+1d6)

(9) + (1) + 4 = 14

Unfortunately, Anastasia twists aside to dodge Wolfram's arrow, and she quickly sidesteps Lauretta's mighty swing. "You want me to be a monster? Fine, then I'll oblige!" the hag snarls. She points a finger at Lauretta and spits a bitter curse...
OOC:
@Stalker05,@Lcythas may act!

Rolls

Hag Curse vs Lauretta Will 14 (1 Boon, 1 Bane from Raiment) - (d20+6)

(6) + 6 = 12

Dec 9, 2025 2:35 pm
OOC:
Heavenly Raiment gives a bane to attacks, which spells are not included in that definition in SotWW. She'll still get her boon, unfortunately.
Dec 9, 2025 2:42 pm
OOC:
Okay, adding this on to the previous post then.
The hag's curse takes hold!
OOC:
On a success, the target becomes cursed for 1 minute. While it is cursed in this way, the target is weakened and takes an extra 1d6 damage whenever it takes damage.

Tzal moved closer to Anastasia and quickly pulled out a vial containing dark amber-colored viscous fluid. He hesitated for once but then looked at the hag and threw it towards her. His staff also flared for once as runes appeared glowing in front of it.
OOC:
I am using Royal water as it must be used within 5 yards range. I am also spending 1 charge to augment magic. This gives one boon to my magic roll and 1 bane to the hag to resist it. Also, Wizard grimoire gives 1 boon to intellect roll for casting magic and 1 bane to resist against Tzal's intellect. Basically it nullifies her protection against magic. Does 14 beats her agility? So, that's 11 points of damage to health. If agility is beaten then she takes another 4d6 health damage.

Rolls

Intellect - (1d20+4)

(7) + 4 = 11

boon - (1d6)

(3) = 3

damage roll - (4d6)

(2333) = 11

R3N-L3's sword slices into the hag's side, drawing blood. Tzal splashes her with royal water, the virulent poison eating away at her health. Unfortunately, she is able to quickly brush off the vile stuff before it can further drain her.
OOC:
End of the round. Anybody who wants to take the initiative for round 3 may do so and act now!
[ +- ] Enemy Status

Rolls

(19) - (2) = 17

Dec 11, 2025 9:28 am
OOC:
I am guessing 14 doesn't beat her agility?
