Looking behind you, you see no sign of the path on which you had been treading. Tzal is the first to realize what has happened. You've stumbled through a thin place in the world and have stepped into the faerie realm! And getting back out again will likely be much more complicated...
One really had to wonder where he'd learned baking, and why he was spending so much time on it. He walked over to one of the trees, offering some to a nearby squirrel. "Trade proposition. I provide these cookies. You bury our remains after we have been eaten alive by the faeries."
Watching R3N-L3 with eyebrows that questioned his sanity, Lauretta stepped closer to Wolfram. In a land such as this, it brought her some comfort to stand next to who she perceived to be the most normal of her companions. "I don't think faeries can eat the steel you're made of, Renly. We'll want to stick together if we're to make it out of this damned place. Whatever you do, don't trust anything."
Wolfram noticed Lauretta's new proximity and felt a little taller. Whether it was that she found him a comfort as they entered into battle yet again, or something else, he wasn't sure, but it was nice all the same.
"Let's see if our cookie baker can convince these faeries to leave us be and tell us where we are before we get too hasty with weapons."
That didn't stop Wolfram from placing a hand on his enchanted dagger.
"Ah! Greetings, mortals and automaton. It seems you've stumbled into our little realm here," he says cheerily. "My name's Myxlix, and this here is the Sky Pillars, named for the tall trees that hold up the heavens."
"Pastries do not require trust or a lack thereof, however."
Wolfram was of course delighted to be among these odd trees and this strange looking faeire with the tufts of bright hair piqued his interest.
"Greetings, Myxlix. It seems as though we have entered your world unexpectedly. What is this place whose trees have faces that come and go? Don't mind Renly here. He knows no better, being an automaton as you seem to know already."
"This here is the edge of our great faerie kingdom," the little man says to Wolfram. "A great and wondrous forest, it is. But not for mortals or constructs such as yourselves. You may not find everybody here as accommodating as me. They'll seek to trick and pester you for sport. Some may out-and-out try to kill you! So be on your guard!"
The Preceptor's guard did not break throughout their jaunt, and it certainly did not do so when they bumped into Myxlix. She considered arguing that pastries do require a degree of trust, but she thought the better of it. "I'd rather not have to spill blood if it can be avoided, but that won't stop me from defending myself. If these other denizens you speak of can be so hostile, would you be willing to show us the way out? My automaton friend can be rather goal-oriented if something gets in the way of his objectives. It wouldn't end well for anyone."
"Do these five things, and I shall reveal the way home for you."
"Oh, I doubt that, Lauretta. I'm sure your tales have and will raise many eyebrows. I look forward to more." As to leaving this place, it appeared that would not be easy.
"That's a little much, don't you think?" Wolfram asked Myxlyx, realizing that they probably had entered into a negotiation. "What if none of us can swim or dive to the bottom of a body of water?"
He watched the fairy Myxlix and his otherworldy demands about random things. Who is even the Great Mean Man? Or the Old Man Time? It all sounded like elaborate pranks and tricks. He silently bowed to the fairy and then walked out of earshot distance with his friends and spoke, "This all seems jumbled and smells of pranks. Maybe we should find another fairy and talk about their version of the story. Or we could just proceed and ask around about these things and probably find someone more understanding and manageable in their request."
"It's all absolute nonsense. Can't trust any fey to give a straight answer, but we're stuck here without a clue otherwise. Other than blindly asking questions and pressing on, the only thing I can think to do is to quietly wrangle one of them and force it to speak plainly. That'd just be a matter of picking our target carefully."
You know all about the Church’s ordinary and magical enemies. You can recall information about cults, heresies, demons, faeries, fiends, spirits, and undead. You also know how to question prisoners to get them to reveal secrets.
Would she be able to tell what kind of faery Myxlix is? Or if any of the things he spoke of sounds familiar?
As far as faeries go, korrigans are among the most benign you could hope to encounter.
"Eh? What's this? A metal man?" asks one of them
"And mortals beyond him!" another says with a little grin.
"Oh, my! It's been an age since we've had mortals visit us, hasn't it, me brothers?" the third faerie says.
"You must be hungry! Won't you all come in and have a nosh?" the fourth one says, eyes gleaming.
Lauretta recognizes these faeries as powries. Sometimes called redcaps, these faeries must keep their hats drenched in mortal blood or be destroyed by a curse that afflicts their kind.
"We are on a mission of great importance, and the only way we can stop to eat is if our mission is advanced. If you give us information on the Golden Bird, the Great Mean Man, the Starry Pond, Old Man Time, the swimming hill, or Ompha, then we may come in and dine with you, but that will depend on how much information you can give us here. I hope you understand." The monotone of her voice was approaching that of her clockwork companion's, but it was better than immediately slamming her axe into the nearest tricky bastard.
Her offer was all a lie, of course. The Preceptor's eyes stabbed down at the nearest of the creatures, looking to spot any falsehoods it spoke for what they were. Once she got the information she was looking for, she'd unleash judgment upon them.

The four faeries reach to the long, wickedly sharp razors tucked into their belts, their faces twisted into eager sneers!
Now clutched in Lauretta's fist, the silver skull of flames that rested on a chain on her neck began to glow. As orange light emanated from the amulet, it began to emit smoke between the gaps of her fingers. It did not burn her, but the air around the redcaps grew hot. Flames erupted around them, trying to cling to the devilish faeries.

The burning faerie shrieks in anger and attacks Wolfram with his razor, scoring a horrid cut! As blood pours from the deep wound it soaks the powrie's cap, healing him. A second redcap moves in and delivers another horrible wound that takes the rogue down! The other two faeries rush up to attack Lauretta. One scores a devastating slice, but the last one fails to get past her armor.
Drench the Cap: If a flesh-and-blood target takes 10 damage or more, the powrie heals 1d6 damage.
Barring any reactions from R3N-L3, Wolfram takes a total of 41 damage which makes him incapacitated. Lauretta takes 21 damage.

"Ah, this needs to be taken orally. Please do so." He said, retrieving a second flask from his pack and holding it out to her.
Drink from this flask. Quickly now, he says as he hastily takes the flask from the clockwork. "The threats have been vanquished."
Tzal sat on the ground and started working on his alchemist kit. Brining out several oddly shaped glass bottles and stands along with strangely colored liquids and herbs, he set out to grind, crush and boil the components. Ten minutes passed and he filled the contents in a vial and offered it to Lauretta. "Okay, drink this. I think you will need it."
"Never in my years as a mercenary did I ever fight alongside folks so eager to sacrifice for my sake. Those of the Church will do it because it's the right thing, but you lot do it because you care. If only we had met years ago." A wistful gaze cut through her allies before resting on Wolfram. There was some ragged knot in her gut that she seemed to have found, unsure of what it was or how to feel about it. If the life she had made for herself as a Preceptor of the Church was finally fulfilling, why was she now thinking of what could have been? The crack in her steely composure let Invidian's venomous words seep through once more, forcing her hand to action as she eagerly pushed it all back down.
Lauretta drank the elixir greedily, letting the sensations carry the thoughts and her wounds away. By the time Tzal finished crafting the second, her wounds were only light gashes that had scabbed over. The lesser healing elixir helped to clear them completely as the bitter liquid spread its magic throughout her body. "That's terribly bitter, but looks like it did the trick. Only light scars there now. Thank you, Tzal."

Then he began to build kindling to make a small fire. "When engaging with unknown entities, standard doctrine is to dispose of physical remains to avoid reanimation or possession."
Bones, hides, and other rubbish lay scattered around the ogre. Of particular note is a golden cage. Inside, perched on a bar, is a magnificent bird. It looks like a quail, but its feathers shimmer golden in the sunlight.
The inquisitor, urged on by Lauretta, hunched down beside her and took stock of the current situation.
"Why can't we do both?" he replied. "One of us could sneak in and separate the ogre from his cleaver, at least."
Was R3N-L3 trying to draw them away from the idea of combat, or merely stating the facts with brutal clarity like he was known to do? It was very unclear, mostly because of that helmet he always hid his face under.

The Preceptor had learned her lesson fighting alongside R3N-L3. Rather than charge in with her great axe, her hands dipped behind her for the longbow. An arrow made its way into her hand soon after, and then through the air soon after that as the bow creaked under her grip. No point getting up close if there's someone a lot better at taking a beating than you. She closed the gap slightly, still standing a good 5 yards away from the creature in case of an emergency.

The beautiful golden bird chirps and sings merrily in its cage.
Then, of course, because R3N-L3 was R3N-L3... "Salutations. If you require human flesh as sustenance, I am afraid I am in short supply. However, I can likely synthesize an appropriate substitute from the remains of your captor."
Despite the heat of battle, Wolfram's stomach protested being empty, so he appealed to the clockwork for some sweet sustenance. Blueberries were some of his favorite fruits.
After a second, he decided to pull out a bag of cookies for the others too, reasoning that if one organic needed refuelling, the other models had similar mileage.
"Yes, let's focus on our next objective, Tzal. Renly may not have any trouble fetching something from the bottom of water, but he might have trouble getting back out. We'll need to figure it out when we get there. For now, I suppose we have to cart this bird around until we see Myxlix again. Maybe we'll find the swimming hill at the pond while we're at it." Lauretta took a cursory glance around at the ogre's former collection while waiting for the others to continue moving.
"However, the bird cannot promise to not fly away." The warform reflected, resheathing his weapon.
Thinking about the retrieval of the mirror, should they find it, the rogue has an idea. "Well, Tzal, we can use some rope and fashion a loop on the end. Maybe we can hook the mirror and pull it up from the bottom that way. A clockwork might get rusty after a swim, as Lauretta suggested, and we'd never see him again."

Renly had proved invaluable to their efforts. It would be a great loss if he were lost.
"Stand ready for anything," he added.
It was just that R3N-L3 proscribed to his own esoteric table of values, which seemed to mean he would take everything that didn't belong at the bottom of a lake, and haul it up without discrimination. His grip tightened on his special dagger once again when Tzal examined the mirror. Maybe looking directly at it would release some kind of magic. He hoped it was the good kinds.
After strolling up beside Wolfram and Tzal, the Preceptor eyed the object with some curiosity. The mage's explanation was met with a nod and a glance back towards R3N-L3. "Yes, let's move as soon as our shield back there is unwound and good to go. Curious to know where that portal goes though."
Wolfram eyes the copper pieces as they disappear into Renley's pouch, and then the mirror, their prize found and retrieved.
"Let's hope for future successes such as this one!" he says, ready to move on to their next objective.
Before you fall asleep for the night, however, you hear a rustling coming from the undergrowth nearby. A few moments later, a black bear pokes his furry head out of the bushes and peers at you curiously. He sniffs the air, wiggles his ears, and then talks!
"Hello," the bear says. "Haven't seen you round these parts before."
"Aye, we wandered in unexpectedly. Been trying to find our way out." The priestess's tone was calm and steady, but her face contained bewilderment. A magical disguise, perhaps? But for what purpose? Remembering how the attempted interrogation with the powries went, she cautiously bided her time instead of immediately affixing her inquisitive eyes on the creature's weaknesses.
How by any god any pastries had survived his dip in the lake, let alone a slice of very soft cake, was up to anyone's speculation. Perhaps R3N-L3 was simply a very well-armed toaster oven masquerading as a warform.
While Wolfram was skeptical and sensed Lauretta's doubt, he glanced at Tzal as if to say, be ready for anything. Renly was already on guard.
Unhelpfully, Wolfram asks the "bear", "Where are you headed?"
He turns to Tzal. "I am Ompha. I was just roaming around the woods, as is my wont, looking for something scrumptious to eat." He chuckles. "Don't worry, I don't eat people! Just fish, honey, and roots, mostly. You wouldn't happen to have any tasty treats, would you?"

Wolfram threw that in there to suggest that the bear might not be entirely safe in their company if it decided to become something malevolent. He was curious how Ompha would answer the priest.
The bear looks at Tzal quizzically. "A town of bears? That's a silly notion! I live on my own my in my little den. Eventually, I might find a mate and settle down, raise some cubs, but that day's still a long way off!"
He scratches at his ear with his back paw. "Anyway, you did something nice for me, so I'll do something nice for you! Is there something I can help you with?"
"I've heard of the swimming hill, too. There's a sinkhole deeper in the forest where dead things float in the muck. Some hills poke up from the dirty water, and there's one that moves around sometimes. But it's not always there. I don't know where it goes when it's not there."
Wolfram's eyes narrow at the clockwork and his calculated probabilities.
You scan the region for a few minutes, then R3N-L3 notices one of the hillocks move a few feet before coming to rest again. You glimpse a few pink flowers growing on the hillock.
When the corpse gets within a yard of the hillock, what looked at first to be another island in the muck rises up out of the water on six spindly, thorny legs! Tentacles unfurl from its sides and a toothy maw opens wide!
Tzal then pointed at the swamp creature and sent a flying jellyfish towards it. He then started to slowly wade back from the creature.
"Of course it's a monster." Lauretta groaned, reaching for her bow.

The monster has a Defense of 9 so Lauretta hits. The spore cloud fills the air within 10 yards with light obscurement for 1 minute. Lauretta can use her prayer to give Tzal a boon on his attack to cancel the bane and still allow him to critically hit.
@Windyridge is up. No boon from Lauretta since she used it for Tzal, and the bane from light obscurement is canceled out by the boon from poisoned, so Wolfram rolls as normal for his attack.
When you attack with the weapon, flames erupt from it and burn until the combat ends or until you drop the weapon.
A creature that takes damage from an attack you make with the weapon must succeed on a luck roll or catch fire (luck ends). If you get a failure on your roll to attack, one different enemy in reach must make an Agility roll. On a failure, it takes 1d6 damage from the flame
Combat Opportunist
When you get a success on any roll in combat, you can use this talent to either move up to half your Speed or cause one enemy in reach to take 1d6 damage. You have the Slippery trait if and while you move from using this talent. Once you use this talent, you lose access to it (luck ends).

With the monster's defeat, you are able to harvest the pink flowers on its back. There are 12 in total.
The nymph seems like a good bet for their next assignment. "I'm ready to visit the nymph."
You follow the bear through the enchanted woods for a bit. Soon, you come to a small clearing. In the center of the clearing, a beam of sunlight illuminates a bronze-colored sword that sticks out from a rock. The blade has a wavy edge, its grip wrapped in wood carved to look like an eagle’s claw. A bronze crossbar extends out to either side of the handle.
"The legends say that this word once belonged to a powerful elf knight poisoned and murdered by goblins at this very spot," Ompha says." To prevent the goblins from taking his most prized possession, the Orichalcum Blade, a magical weapon that was forged at the dawn of creation, he plunged the blade into the rock and cursed it to remain there until drawn from the stone by someone worthy."
The bear settles back on his haunches and gestures for you to give it a try.
And let it go.

"I knew it!" Ompha declares triumphantly.
R3N-L3's fruitless attempt to pull the sword from the stone was about what the Preceptor expected. It seemed more likely to her that a faerie set this up as an elaborate prank if it were not for the craftsmanship that went into the weapon. Her steely gaze stared at the blade as weighed her decision on whether to participate in this endeavor or not. One leg moved forward as Wolfram seemingly failed, but halted at the sudden sign of movement.
"Well, I'll be! It actually unsheathed for you! Thank you for guiding us to this boon, Ompha. It seems my friend here is a natural at wielding magical weaponry."
"Where is the next kill?" Did R3N-L3 sound almost...Eager?
"The hag Anastasia dwells within," Ompha says nervously, shying away from the clearing. "She is likely to be the most dangerous being in this place. Be very sure you are prepared before you enter."
Familiar strands of light weaved through the air and around Lauretta as the ritual pressed on. By the time it was finished, her form was protected by the shining raiment of Paradise. "I am ready. Let us walk together, Renly. You do not want to underestimate the powers of these vile things."
"It is ironic, is it not, that something so beautiful can be such an instrument of death? "
Placing it safely on his person while they walk, he withdraws it again before he enters the cave behind the clockwork.
Hags are resistant to magic and immune to mental effects like being confused or frightened. They can hurl fire at their victims and curse them with weakness or slumber.
Once ready, you enter the cave. Inside, you see a tattered sleeping pallet and cookware, along with numerous dried herbs and vegetables piled up in one corner. An aged, broken man sits slumped against a rock that he has been chained to. He looks extremely emaciated, his lips cracked and bloody.
At the other end of the cave is the hag Anastasia herself, muttering and cursing as she fiddles with a golden feather in her hands. Her threadbare garments stand in sharp contrast to her unearthly beauty. Long, flaxen hair, eyes of gleaming silver, and graceful pointed ears round out her features. She turns towards you curiously.
"What's this? Visitors to my humble home?" she asks in a voice like honey. "Perhaps you can help me. I've been searching for something that was taken from me long ago. My lovely golden bird. Oh, it sang the sweetest song and greeted me every time I returned home from a long day abroad! Might you have any knowledge of my feathered friend?"
"An avian of the aurum hue? No. This avian is clearly sunset yellow, as anyone with optical sensors can detect. It is also not fully comprised of gold, as it can eat pastries. Therefore, I know of no bird matching your description."
The Clockwork gestured over at the emaciated prisoner with a mechanical wave. "However. Due to an optimization algorithm I have encoded, I am obligated to keep the fleshy, rather vulnerable organic lifeforms behind me alive and tolerably well. This plane is not a place well-suited to their habitation. I wish to take them back to baseline reality. If you are able to offer a more expedient method of doing so, I will not be required to take your head."
Wolfram was buying time, but was also curious to see if Anastasia was telling the truth.
"Are the lot of you serious? This creature is among the most vile of the fey and will do us no favors. Put the damned bird away. This is the last task given to us by Myxlix. By the High One, let's kill this wicked monster and free that man!"
The anger in the Preceptor's voice bounced along the cave walls. Her eyes shifted to stare piercingly at the faerie, preparing for it to react to her outburst.

Meanwhile, Woflram hits the hag with an arrow, then Tzal scores a critical hit with his jellyfish, the watery construct wrapping its tentacles around Anastasia.
