Does everyone have to drive or are the 2 drivers already enough?

OOC:

You’re right. Vikram , not Bear. Thanks.
Having more characters drive means that the party stay fresh. But you have to decide whether it’s worth the risk of a failed roll—over to you in other words.

EDIT, @TheGenerator, to quantify somewhat , there are two jeeps and four or five drivers. Enough drivers for regular swaps if everyone takes part. if your guy doesn’t drive, I’ll ask the drivers to make an —easy — STA roll to see if they are affected by the burden of the work.

But if you roll and fail, it will mean you’ve come off the road (rather than plain crashed), or ground the gears to heck.

Ah I see. I think Bear can attempt driving then.
Bear is somewhat reluctant to drive. He's driven jeeps before, but it was never his strong suit and in this terrain driving was a real challenge. However, he wasn't one to back down. Imagine someone calling him a scaredy cat because he didn't want to drive. No no, he couldn't have that at all!

As with anything, once he set his mind to it, Bear went full throttle. In this case sometimes literally... When the roads allowed.
OOC:
I just realized my persuasion roll should have had a a-1 because of my "seedy" hindrance. That would have made the result a 4 instead of a 5. Hope that's still ok. Sorry about missing that.

Once the new drivers get over their nervousness, the drive north proves exhilarating and swift. Changing drivers regularly, the team navigate the numerous road blocks and diversions with relative ease. To their right and left they pass hills, forests and wide paddies.

They cannot help but note the extent of the damage inflicted by the recent war. The main railway, running close to the highway, is closed in many places. They pass burned out villages and buildings. Several bridges are destroyed or damaged. The Brits are taking too long to right the country’s ills. Or perhaps leaving the problems for the new government to deal with.

Staying in hotels each night, the team reach Mandalay in three days. Taylor splashes out on a small but decent hotel, the Royal Gardens, on the city outskirts. The building occupies the grounds of a pre-colonial palace. Its extensive gardens are laid out in the English style with a tennis court, a croquet green and an outdoor bar. But there are traces of its earlier role as a palace garden—old statues, an ornamental pond and an ancient pagoda. "Charming," according to its well-heeled guests.

As the party take their ease near the bar, some of them become aware of a strange atmosphere. In the cool dusk, they sense something menacing in the deepening shadows of the ancient garden…
OOC:

As a result of their experience handling the jeeps for a few days, Vikram and Bear can now operate the vehicles with a d4 die, as long as they are driving on a road and carrying out simple manoeuvres (and using these particular, familiar vehicles).

1. If you wish, set the scene by describing your drink and activity, or anything you find interesting.
2. Make EITHER a hard notice roll, TN6, or a normal TN4 SPI roll to sense/spot the origin of the menace.

"Propper spot." He tells Vikram as they walk in. "Reminds us of home... in a way." You can tell in his voice he's not sure whether that's a good thing.

Already getting into his new role, Bear decides to order a local milk tea. It's not exactly what the ones back in England taste like, but definitely similar. And with a dollop of whiskey poured in, it sure hits the spot.

In his more posh manner he asks his companions "A walk through the gardens sounds nice. Anyone care to join me?"

OOC:

It was TN2, very easy, so you succeeded.

A STA roll is a roll using your ‘raw’ stamina attribute die , in this case to resist fatigue/ exhaustion. It’s like a CON save in D&D. Looks like we don’t need to use it anyway…

Black sweet tea in hand, Vikram decides to join Bear for a stroll in the gardens, admiring the history and architecture of it all. A part of him wonders if he can ever find his way back to building items of note instead of destroying them.
OOC:
ah, that's right. I'm so used to TN4 for most everything with SW, my mind just went to that by default.
OOC:
so in SW parlance, a Vigor roll, gotcha. It STA is specific to Fate or Cypher I've never played those, but am cool with mixing systems up.

It certainly is ... very beautiful. It is unfortunate how many places like this were harshly damaged during the var. She takes a soft sip of the tea she had taken with her. But thats the vay of things isn't it. Also you'll have to teach me how to make a proper cup of English tea one of these days Bear

"Can do, miss Volkova" Bear replies, forgetting to switch back to his normal way of talking for a moment. "First off, we call it a 'brew' or a 'cuppa'." He winks at her.

Both Bear and Ek sense that something is ‘off’.

A few of the other guests also seem disturbed, breaking off their conversations and turning to gaze out into the gardens. One man frowns and orders his family inside. The barman manning the outdoors bar pauses and stares. The sun is setting, a low crimson ball nearing the treetops. The shade beneath the trees and bushes has deepened to inky blackness.

Vikram sees, rather than feels an approaching menace. A large cat, the size of a leopard or young tiger, slinks through the grounds from the direction of the pagoda. It advances steadily. Vikram is likely the only person present who can see the creature.
OOC:

Three or four turns will pass before the cat reaches the area where the guests are mingling. By turn two, Vikram judges, other guests will have seen the creature and start to panic, rushing inside the hotel.

Rewinding to this moment, does V warn everyone, or just Bear and Ek (Taylor is inside)? Or do something else? Given that V has foreknowledge here, we had better let @ctme2000 post first.

Aug 18, 2026 6:30 pm
In a low voice, pointing out the wild cat to Bear and Ekaterina "Over there, something wicked this way comes. Best to not have everyone panic and agitate the beast. Can you two politely escort the others inside the nearest building?"

Eyeing the distance to the outside bar, "I may have a way to scare it off."
OOC:
not sure on the building placement and distances of where we all are, but was thinking I can make my way to the bar and concoct something to scare away the beast. That said, I'm not carrying any weapons, but if either of y'all are, feel free to pew pew away.
OOC:
When you say 'off', does the wildcat seem of the natural world, or supernatural?
OOC:
bonus points if it's a displacer beast ;)

Time for a terrible map. Your party is next to the outdoor bar (see map) at the rear of the hotel.

https://i.ibb.co/0p4cyZBZ/2026-08-18-0xx-Kleki.png

The four red lines each indicate a distance of 6" , i.e. how much you can move in one turn at standard pace. So the monster can get to the hotel in about 4 rounds without running. You can go inside the hotel in one round. Or get to the bar in a second or less (you might already be touching it).

The bar has lots of bottles of spirits—gin, whisky, vodka, etc if you want to make a Molotov. A light, cloth, etc can be improvised and the barman will not intervene. You could make it in this same round with a standard repair roll.

If anybody is carrying a gun it would need to be concealed, as guns would not be permitted in the hotel. Requires a benny or normal stealth roll unless it’s a small handgun.

Katya walks up to the bartender. Privet. I do not mean to cause alarm, but my friend has noticed some kind of boar or vild beast approaching the premises as she gestures towards Vikram Considering the vilderness that surrounds this villa, I was hoping you would know of some kind of protocol to get the guests inside without causing a panic, while he handles it.

I think that’s a persuade roll, normal difficulty, to have the desired effect of a calm retreat indoors….a fail doesn’t mean chaos , just a rather shouty response.

Responding to the Ruska’s calmness, folk begin to quietly file indoors, glancing curiously into the twilit gardens….

Seeing the guests calmly start to gather inside, Vikram makes his way behind the bar and grabs the bottle with the highest alcohol volume. He takes a sip, then finds a rag to shove into it. Luckily, the bartender's pack of smokes is nearby as is his lighter. Looking at the nervous man with a calm gaze, "Make sure you or someone is at that rear door to let me in, if things go south.", waiting for a nod of understanding, before focusing his gaze back on the ... what was it exactly, a panther, a cougar? Vikram thought over his school studies to see if something natural, or otherwise, came to mind.

would a CK or Academia roll give me more insight into what this may be? A nature check, local legend, folk tale, etc.

Yes, please feel free to roll where you think it might help-I can always ignore if I don’t think it is necessary or helpful. I can also decide the TN retrospectively if it isn’t 4.

Please remember that it requires a repair roll to make a molotov cocktail successfully…
