As the others discuss the situation Eugenios, having dressed his would best he can, drags himself up and joins the other. He pauses briefly to place a finger or two and grab a skull, from the fallen undead. Then to address the group, "I am sorry for your loss, I barely knew her but she appeared brave and strong of will. I agree it is not best to leave her here, but Aanbo has made a good point and I will see this through with him. I was sent to look into the matter here, and it seems my Superiors have the wrong of it again."

Do you intend that we are to carry the corpse with us? Obviously, we can't leave her to the necro that we know are here. Would not the church of Pelor scream should they discover this. "

"Being screamed at is nothing new to me," admits Aanbo. "But my meaning is for you to withdraw and make haste back to Hochoch. I know that is what you've wanted, and only reluctantly did you join us at this temple. Take Arya with you and escape while you can."

The monk looks to Chase and Myrtha. "You two are better suited to protecting them while they transport our fallen friend. Chase, you especially can lead them home, probably with your eyes shut."
Feb 12, 2026 6:17 am
"Im not leaving without you Aanbo," Myrtha stated plainly, as she looked at the four arrow shafts protruding from her body and began to consider how to handle them.

"The Merikkan priestess must be taken down, we can retreat after that," she added plainly. She then forcefully snapped one of the arrow shafts, figuring she would have to remove the arrowhead later.
OOC:
Were beat-up, but I guess we can push on a bit still. This encounter was brutal, more because of lucky dice rolls than the nature of the enemy itself, but we can still take on the cleric, I believe. She’s only one, and we are many. Myrtha would not accept leaving Aanbo on his own, or assisted by the newcomers only, to face this peril. If Aanbo’s own intention was to fall back, but stay hidden in Orlane, that might be a different discussion.
Feb 12, 2026 6:50 am
During the discussion, Ferranzo places ten arrows in his new-found quiver, while trying not to think about the quiver's previous owner. He lays the other arrows he finds in a pile. "We'll need to share these. I'm ready to keep exploring the temple. My cousin might be near. I won't abandon him."

"So, about this priestess you speak of -- is there anything we need to do to prepare to defend ourselves? Wear crosses or something? What does she look like? Do we try to talk to her first?" Ferranzo is visibly nervous.
Feb 12, 2026 12:18 pm
"I will not leave until this is over. Morton may take the body to the dinning room we cleared earlier and wait for us there. This needs to finished."Looking around"I have shed and lost a lot of blood since we started this and I will either see it through or die trying."

mathias0077 says:
I still have a hit dice I haven't used. Could I do that now?
OOC:
I confirm: short resting takes an hour of downtime, and spending hit dice requires the application of a healer's kit for each PC that is going to spend hit dice. Whether Aanbo is willing to wait for that is a different story, though I think everyone other then Ferranzo (who hasn't been hurt yet) would benefit.

Time passes as the adventurers consider their next step: rest here, or take a door. There are two unopened doors leading south, deeper into the Temple of Merikka, and the door to the west leading back to the stairs to the ground floor of the Temple.

"Morton, if you're able and willing to do as Chase suggested, take Arya to the dining room," says Aanbo. "Any of you that feel the same should accompany him and wait for us there."

Aanbo looks to the two doors, and points to the one towards the east. "Those who are coming with me, let's try this way."

She needs to be removed far from this evil temple as there is a powerful necromancer here for sure. The Pelor's church knows what to do with her soul properly. "

Aanbo looks from Morton to Arya, and back again. "If you mean to say that you will take her back to Hochoch, then do what you feel is best," he says. With a nod of genuine appraisal of Morton's determination, Aanbo turns to the eastern door and attempts to open it.
Feb 14, 2026 1:26 am
"Before we go too far, does anyone have torches or a lantern? I worry that the priestess likes dark places to hide in."
Feb 14, 2026 10:10 am
"Sure, let’s do this," the warrior replied, with a groan. Myrtha always took Aanbo’s decisions pretty much as orders, annd this was no different.

She had by then either removed or broken the shafts off the three remaining arrows stuck to her body. She straightened up, readied shield and spear, and got ready to follow Aanbo.
OOC:
if we corner the priestess, we should, once again, try to take her down but keep her alive for interrogation and punishment in Hochoch.
Feb 14, 2026 2:17 pm
Chase will nod to Ferranzo"I have plenty of torches." Chase hates leaving people behind but the group had a job to do and Joesph might still be alive in here somewhere. He had to admit to himself that he had more of an attachment to him than these he just met.

Ember adjusts her weapons belt and sets her expression to one of determination. "Let's go!"
Feb 15, 2026 3:02 am
Ferranzo is ready, bow in hand, but he is still staying in the back. He has one important spell left and he wants to live long enough to use it against the priestess.

Grimly hoping that his leading the party deeper into the Temple won't result in more deaths, Aanbo pushes on, opening the eastern door and stepping through with mostly-dead-but-just-as-determined Chase by his side holding a lit torch.

This room contains many built-in bookshelves full of books, and two small tables, each with two chairs. An especially large book lays open on a lectern atop the further table.

Special Investigator Eugenios (who is cursed) and heavy debtor Morton (who is clearly very hurt) hang back for the moment, but the others crowd the door despite the serious injuries most of them have sustained.

He trudges to the exiting door in the room and is careful not to slide on the mixed blood, his and Arya's, there. With no light, demonic Morton has darkvision so he can make his way.

Eugenios watched ever so briefly as Morton struggled with his Priestess, before helping to get her up. "Best of luck, and my your spirit guide watch over you." He says before following Aanbo and Chase into the next room.

The Gnome Wizard stops as he looks around and gives a quiet whistle at the amount of books on display. Eugenios will make his way the eastern wall, not touching, scanning the titles of some of the books, before turning his attention to the especially large book. "This maybe a trap, and an obvious one, but I am hoping not when dealing with such a beautiful item as a book."
OOC:
Roll for book shelves along the Eastern wall, Justin case something looks interesting. But not for the large book yet, will deal with that shortly 😁
