Round Seven
(this is preceded by round six)

Chase breathes a bit easier now that he's no longer bleeding to death.

Morton draws upon the dark pact with the demon lord to launch another concussive blast at the final animated corpse. But either his hellish patron is bored with his antics or his aim is just off; the blast chips at the wall next to the skeleton instead.

Skeleton 8 drops its bow with a clatter and draws its short sword, silently attacking Myrtha!

Eugenios' withering hand caresses the same spot on the wall that Morton just blasted!

Myrtha blocks the skeleton's sword with her shield, but is finding it difficult to shorten the grip on the spear enough to effectively attack with the corpse this close to her.

Exasperated, Ember walks into the room, taking careful aim, and looses an arrow at the final skeleton. The arrow punches into the skull so hard that the skull shatters.
Skeleton 8 takes 13 piercing damage and is destroyed!

Each of the 7 PCs gains 58 XP for surviving the battle with the undead guardians!

Of the eight PC that were in the party, one is dead, one is stable at 0 HP, most of the others are pretty hurt, and four would be able to train to advance a level back in Hochoch. All of the eight skeletons are broken into pieces, but in the mess of each is a short sword, a short bow, and a moldering quiver containing some arrows. There are two other obvious exits from this room, both closed doors in the south wall.
Aanbo (18/27)
Chase (0/17) Stable
Ember (7/12)
Eugenios (4/8) Mage armor, Cursed
Ferranzo (8/8)
Morton (1/15, 5 temp HP)
Myrtha (9/30)

He cast his cantrip eldritch blast once again but is rather distracted some by the recent close in battling and it spoils his aim.

Myrtha moved so that those further down the corridor had a clearer sight of the remaining enemy: she did not wanted to be pin-cushioned by the volley of mundane and magical projectiles being sent in her general direction. She focused on the last skeleton, trying to spit its skull with her enchanted spear.
OOC:
Well with our dear DM hogging most of the good rolls, we must do with this pittance of single figure rolls… :-P These skeletons were deadly!

Skeleton 8 sword attack on Myrtha AC18, piercing damage - (1d20+4, 1d6+2)

As the last skeleton falls, Aanbo joins those tending to Chase. "Good job, you two," he says, commending Ember and Ferranzo. He opens his healer's kit to apply a pungent poultice to the staunched wounds, then presses his calloused fingers around the nerve points to get the watchman's energy flowing the right way.
OOC:
The healer's kit is just for flavor. Aanbo will spend 1 ki point to apply Hand of Healing to Chase. Won't be able to bring him up to full, but at least he can move on his own.

Rolls

Hand of Healing - (1d4+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

As Aanbo applies his acupressure, Chase comes awake with a gasp.
Chase regains 6 HP.

As the last Guardian crumbles, Eugenios slides his blade away and attends to wrapping his wound. The Wizard makes a note to get more health potions or learn healing magic, could be handy in the future. He slumps heavily against a wall to rest.
Feb 11, 2026 1:06 pm
"Good… shooting… Ember." the warrior grunts through teeth clenched in pain. She kicked the fallen bones nearest to her, and set her back against the wall, using the spear haft as a crutch.

She allowed herself to breath heavily in her corner, as the adrenaline coursing through her veins slowly began to diminish.

"Can’t leave her here, Arya. This place is cursed, she’ll come back from the dead to threaten villagers and travellers alike. She… deserves better."
Feb 11, 2026 1:24 pm
Looking up"Thanks for the help. This is the second time now this town has brought me down and my companions have brought me back. I am in your debt." Chase stands and puts a hand on Aanbo and Embers shoulder"You have my deep gratitude."
OOC:
I still have a hit dice I haven't used. Could I do that now?
Feb 11, 2026 5:48 pm
Myrtha's breathing began to slow down, as she slowly recovered control over her body.
OOC:
If we want to heal through natural means, we need uses of the medicine kit, and this should take a short rest, I believe.

https://pics.craiyon.com/2023-10-26/39dd634df3c04b909381a20fe18b9e4a.webp Sadden Morton ask, "Where can we go with Arya and rest for a while as right here isn't a safe spot as who knows when reinforcement of some kind may well arrive."
Feb 11, 2026 9:27 pm
"I don't believe there is a safe place, not anymore," says Aanbo. "We should not go to Ramne's because that invites danger to his doorstep, nor should we seek the Mayor for that same reason. Maybe there's an abandoned house or barn nearby that could shield you for a couple of hours; I don't recommend staying too long there as the patrols will eventually pass by."

Regrettably, the monk does not look to the exit. "Unfortunately, I have to press on. I've come too far and I need to take this temple down before they corrupt more of the townsfolk. The more time we spend licking our wounds, the more time this cult has to poison minds and shield themselves.

"I know, it doesn't make sense. But I cannot reconcile the time I spent training with the harm that was done in my absence. Perhaps we wouldn't have suffered such losses had I decided to push forward back then."
Feb 11, 2026 9:33 pm
"Thanks, Aanbo. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Without your training, would we come have this far? I wish I could’ve done more to help. Everyone, I’m so sorry about Arya."

While the others debate the party’s next steps, Ferranzo grabs the nearest skeleton’s short bow and gathers several arrows.
OOC:
Is there a quiver available to store the arrows?

Ember replenishes her arrow supply. She, too, could use a rest, but she says nothing and pushes herself to go on.
Feb 11, 2026 10:53 pm
Chase will look at Aanbo"I will not leave you my friend we have a job to do and I plan to see it through. We must be close."Chase will hand the club back to Morton"Thanks for the loan but I think I am better off with my own weapons."
Feb 12, 2026 1:24 am
As the party considers splitting up again, the adventurers take stock of their ammunition. Any arrows that were used in the battle (from skeletons or PCs) are all broken from smashing into the granite walls (with the exception of Ember's one skull-impaling arrow that is stuck so far into the doorframe that it is impossible to extract).

The skeletons' quivers are very dusty - the dust doubtless coming from the decay of the corpses themselves - but the hardened leather of each is still in serviceable condition. There are eight quivers, and gathering them all together yields 44 usable arrows in total. Each quiver can hold up to 20 arrows.
