Round Two
(this is preceded by round one, followed by round three)[ +- ] Guardroom details
Here are the details of the guardroom of the undead in the Temple of Merikka:
Dimensions: Each square is 10' on a side, so the room is 80' long x 30' wide.
Exits: There are three obvious exits from the room: the door in the center of the western wall (where the PCs are entering), and two doors in the southern wall.
Furnishings: There are simple wooden benches pushed up against the north and south walls.
Light: The only light source is Arya's shield, just inside the doorway in the western wall. The eastern end of the room is in Dim Light. No one in the party is producing any light, so Chase, Ember, Ferranzo, and Myrtha can barely see in the darkened hallway outside the guardroom; if the door closes or the Light goes out, they will be Blinded.
Undead: There are eight undead guardians, wearing scraps of the armor they wore in life and armed with short bows and swords. Their flesh is almost completely decayed, indicating that they've been dead for months at least.
The party is huddled in the dark behind the mostly-closed door. What the
undead on the other side are doing is unclear.
"Maybe we should rush them." Stepping over
Morton,
Chase squeezes between
Aanbo and
Myrtha, opening the door again to peek into the guardroom. Light shines through the open door, silhouetting the ranger for all the people behind him.
"It will make their bows useless." The room is quiet.
Skeletons 1, 2, 3, and
4 stand against the wall, apparently decorative displays again with the weapons at their sides.
Skeletons 5, 6, 7, and
8 remain in the center of the room, still standing where they were when they attacked.
Morton replies:
"We pushed and Arya is dead now. Least we can do is recover her body. And not let the undead have her."
Chase swings the
guardroom door back to the slightly ajar state that
Myrtha had set previously. The party discusses what to do in the faint glimmer of light leaking around the mostly-closed door, undisturbed by another interruptions from
undead.
"We have to do something. It seems like melee is our best bet." Chase looks over at
Morton's greatclub.
"I will be useless in melee combat." Morton says, getting back to his feet.
"Anyone who needs a blunt weapon can use my great club." He offers the burly weapon to
Chase, who agrees:
"I will use that for I have no blunt weapon." Morton takes position behind
Ember. Setting the huge
club down for a moment,
Chase shrugs off his pack and rummages through it, quickly yanking out his iron
cookpot.
"I can kick the door open our casters can do their thing I can throw this iron pot then Aanbo, Myrtha and I can charge."
"Not the best at close quarters," Eugenios offers,
"but I can fling support fire and then join the fray."
"If we don’t go inside, maybe they won’t attack us?" Ferranzo suggests.
"Ferranzo's thought might have merit," Aanbo replies.
"They don't seem interested in Arya, and look like they're just waiting for us to enter, so maybe we can damage them safely from afar?" He considers this.
"Or I can step inside and try to draw their fire away from the door, allowing others to continue their attacks or do as Chase suggested and rush the skeletons in the middle."
Ferranzo adds:
"Someone mentioned seeing benches. Since arrows aren’t very effective, can those be used to crush the skeletons?" as
Ember assesses whether there's a way to manipulate the door hardware to their advantage.
Unseen and unheard, the
skeletons inside the room move or do not move.
