"Aren't you?" Moss asks rhetorically. "Do you feel like a queen? That part may just have been Shakespeare, but it is hard to say how much his words shaped reality." You are reminded of a feeling of pressure —just beyond perception— when you described what you thought Moss might really look like as a faerie, words have power.

"You said 'everything'!" Blossom wails, she is clearly scared out of her wits by your strong-arm tactics. "We don't do anything illegal..." She tries to claim, but looks away, guiltily, giving up that lie.

"You can really get our current dealer off our back?" She asks, somewhat hopefully. She does not look too upset about that part, but also sounds dubious. "I can't give you his name." She says. "He will kill us if he finds out." She is clearly hinting at something, you think you might know who she is dealing with, which is bad news.

Who is Titanias' current 'dealer'? What have you heard about them? Are you worried?

Blossom sniffs dismissively at your claim of a beautiful nose, hers is a little out of joint so she is feeling spiteful. She looks at your bite-wound in a defeated way. "That's just the thing, though. It is easier to say 'no appointments' than to try to explain spiritual alignment and receptiveness. That scar is on your very soul, it is cursed. But you know this. No one can heal that till you ... 'let go'." She looks sheepish (and sheep-like). "And, no, I can't explain what that means any better than that, you will need to discover that for yourself.

"But, take off your top. I will snaps a few photos and Dr Moss can take a look when he is done. Maybe he can try." She sighs. "We can give you a... 20% discount, best we can do." She names a price... it is astronomical... as in: 'probably the sort of money those billionaire celebrities paid to go to space for a quarter of an hour (or, at least, the deposit)' and well out of your price-bracket, you could buy a house for what they are asking ... though probably not in this area. Apparently it is also more politic to say 'no appointments' than 'you can't afford it'. She does not seem to be exaggerating, their prices are in line with other top firms, or a little higher to pay for their 'miraculous reputation'.

Benji holds the phone away from his face for a moment to address Persephone. "Yasmine wants you to come down to her shop so she can take a look at it. Do you have time before your date?"
Sep 6, 2025 10:59 pm
Max smiles in a way that she hopes is reassuring. "Course I can. He ain't gonna bother you again, consider your account there settled." Inwardly though, she's far from confident. She has a feeling that the particular black marketeer she will be dealing with is Jack the Merc. She had reluctantly dealt with him in the past, and found him to be extremely dangerous, and just as psychotic. She would have never agreed to muscle him out before her change. But now she was a werewolf, a force to be reckoned with, and that gave her the confidence to try. Besides, the thought of him squeezing people in her territory brought out a fury in her that would be frightening if it weren't so delicious.

When Blossom explains that she can't be treated Max raises her brow incredulously. "Really? I thought this was a surgery clinic, what is your doc? A faith healer?" A little suspicious after that song and dance, she nonetheless takes off her jacket and shirt and allows Blossom to take pictures of her mauled stomach. "Alright. If he can't help me, he can't help me. We'll do the consultation anyway. And the discount is greatly appreciated." She's too stubborn to admit that she can't afford the bill if the surgery is actually greenlit but... she can't afford the bill, and it's not her intention to force the clinic to work for free. She thinks about ways she might raise the money. Save up? Borrow it from someone powerful? Take out a loan? None of it seemed very likely.

She lists her fee for strongarming Jack. It's quite expensive itself, but certainly nothing near the astronomical price she'd just been quoted, and it even includes a 20% discount. "I only take payment in cash, of course," she concludes.

"We really don't like using the term 'faith healer'." Blossom says, though what she really means is: 'I wish my partner would stop using it in front of people'. "But there is a ... holistic, metaphysical element to our practice, and that requires ... compatibility of spirit." She does not think your 'spirit' is compatible, but she does not want to say that to your face.

When you give her your quote she blinks in confusion. "You want us to pay you to get rid of our supplier... because you want to be our supplier?" She asks, but then cowardice takes over and she agrees. "The discount is greatly appreciated." She says, managing to hide the mocking tone.

Emma didn't feel like a queen. Queens don't sulk through the sewers in the company of vampires, or run from demons in dark caverns, or use their beauty to their advantage. They're regal, and noble...almost untouchable. She wasn't any of that. "If anything, I'm closer to a Nymph. Something more ... wild" she offered Dr. Moss an apologetic smile, feeling a bit sorry for disagreeing with him.

She slipped her panties back with an unhurried motion, still allowing her hand to wantonly caress her smooth skin, as though she couldn’t quite stop marveling at it. After tugging her pants back up with a soft sigh, she looked up at him once again:

"Thank you, Dr. Moss… for everything."

Persephone looks at her phone, sends a quick text, and looks up the bookstore on her map app. Then she turns to Benji and says, "Given the distance and drive time, my date schedule, and my private car being ready when we get downstairs, she can have one hour. Then I must return here for my date. Tell her we will arrive in about 20 minutes."

She turns to Circe and says, "If you wish to accompany us to the occultist bookshop, get your things, because we are leaving. And I need the condo empty when I return."

She prepares to leave, looking at Benji to join her. She doesn’t pay much attention to Circe, allowing her to do whatever she likes.

For her part, Circe gets a very annoyed and insulted look but grabs her things with a huff and joins them to go.

"Alright, we’ll be there in twenty minutes!" Benji tells Yasmine, brightly.

Before they go, Benji grabs the remaining blood bag and brings it with him to drink in the car, more to stave off the tiredness than the Hunger.

"'A Nymph'? Certainly." Moss agrees. "We must be what we must be." He distractedly watches you dress, his mind seemingly on other things, and not many could say that, given the circumstances.

"Oh, it was my pleasure." He says when you thank him. "Maybe your charm and influence can help us overcome the stigma attached to the faeries in this day and age?" No one has spoken about payment, but this last statement sort of feels like a veiled reference to 'mutual benefit'.

"Normally I would say: 'I hope we I don't see you again'... you know, given what that would mean happened... but if you have any questions... I am always happy to talk." He says.

The car is waiting. The driver does appear perturbed by the presence of a vampire, nor by the blood, and does not even seem concerned about spillage on the immaculately clean leather seats.

"Where am I supposed to go?" Circe is wailing as you get into the car. She does not feel that tossing her out on the street at night is very fair. She tries to ignore the vampire sucking a bag of blood in the seat beside her.

There isn't parking by Yasmine's place, and the car can not drive into Cecil Ct, it is bollardded and has old, iron light poles in the middle, so you have to walk the last bit, the narrow alley is somewhat protected from the wind, so an umbrella keeps the rain off most of you, not significantly messing up your ensemble.

Yasmine's shop is a lot warmer than it was last time, the heating turned up to the max. There is an odd, musty smell to the air.

Circe looks around, disappointed by the sheer ordinariness of the place.

"Oh, I’m always happy to foster good relations. For everyone to get along… well, at least as much as it’s possible." she smiled lightly as she adjusted her clothing. She was thinking about demons in particular, who she hoped never to see again. Though, if she gave it some serious thought, she supposed they had their place in the grand order of things too.

"But if I’m going to be a serious advocate, I would have to know much more about the faeries. Otherwise no one will ever take me seriously. Right now everyone is blaming them for the rain, but if they could somehow help resolve this crisis, I think it would go a long way toward restoring trust" at least she hoped it would. There was still a missing piece of the puzzle there: "Do you know why the faeries were driven away in the first place?"
Sep 7, 2025 4:46 pm
Max chuckles indulgently. "Nothing in this city is free, Blossom. You're welcome to deal with him yourself, of course, but if he is who I think he is, you'd better leave him to me. I'll take half the payment up front, and the other half upon resolution of the matter. Do you have the cash on hand? If not, I'll swing by tomorrow and pick it up." All in all, she's a little upset that she had to have this conversation, but she's pleased how this turned out. She came in with almost nothing and was going to walk out with a job and an opportunity to solidify her hold on her territory. That last part always felt good to the beast lurking within.

She gets dressed quietly. "Alright, seems I misjudged you. You aren't turnin' away folks because their parents weren't rich, or because you're bigots. I'm gonna let you do business as you see fit in that case."

"So," she says conversationally as she begins to head back to the reception area. "When's my consultation?"

"Rampant British industrialisation." Moss says standing slowly and looking exhausted, both by the hours standing by your side and probably also by the outpouring of energy into you, you feel invigorated.

"They stood against what was perceived as 'progress'. Warning of the perils of the path we were on, that we would doom the planet... which we have." He sounds sad, but also like so many conspiracy theorists or hippies. "There was a clash, and not just of ideologies. Apparently there was fighting? They were branded as terrorists and the army came in with their tanks and their bombs and their bombs and their guns. Anyone who did not knuckle under was exterminated or driven out."

He opens the door for you, leading you into the hall. "You say people are blaming the faeries for the rain?" He asks, curious. "I have suspected that might related to them trying to return..."

Blossom continues to look on you with incredulity. "Uh... only the petty cash." She says when you demand money. "Tomorrow?" She sounds a little panicked at the idea of your coming back, and is desperately thinking of ways out of this situation, and whether coughing up the petty cash would get you off their back for a bit.

From the hall outside the open kitchenette you hear a door open and a man speaking about 'fairies': "You say people are blaming the faeries for the rain? I have suspected that might be related to them trying to return...

"...Oh, hello." He says, espying you. "What's this about a 'consultation'?" He sounds tired, but also curious and interested in new cases, this seems like the doctor.

Behind the doctor is probably the most beautiful woman you have even seen, the poster-child for plastic surgery 'after' examples. You recognise her: Emma Harper, the writer.

"Uh-huh, tomorrow. I'll be by in the afternoon," she says as though the matter is settled.

Bumping into the doctor in the hall, she smiles when their eyes meet. "Ah, you must be the doctor. Your lovely associate here was just about to schedule me a..."

Max trails off when she sees Emma, her eyes going wide and her lips parting in shock. She pushes past Moss to get a closer look. "Emma? I mean... Emma Harper? Holy shit you're my favorite author! Your supernatural erotic-thrillers are the tits! Damn... sorry to just walk up to you like this but... I mean, can I shake your hand?"

As they ride, Persephone turns to Circe and says, very matter of factly, "Why not call up that wannabe father figure you were flirting with the other night? He seemed the type to want to protect a defenseless young woman--though you should be ready to pay his price, of course."

Circe is appalled. Persephone sneers at her expression and replies, "Don't be naive, girl! You think a man twice your age is interested in you for your mind? Hardly. If you are so prude, then here, get a hotel." She fishes out a credit card and hands it to Circe.

Circe is so stunned by the casual cruelty of the exchange that she just takes the card, agape.

Once at the shop, Persephone walks in, uninterested in books, instead seeking out Yasmine.

The cat eyes you warily, but does not hiss at you this time.

"I'll be with you a mo'." Yasmine calls from the back, and you hear something heavy and wooden scrape and settle before she appears from among the stacks, wiping her hands on her dress.

"Benji!" She greets warmly, holding out bother her hands and leaning in for la bise. "Glad you made it back. You must tell me about your adventure underground. Persephone." She greets slightly less warmly. Then: "'Ello. I am Yasmine." She says, holding out a hand to Circe.

"Now? Which one of you has the regrettable tattoo?" She asks, straight to business.

It wasn’t that Emma was too simple minded to spare a thought for wars, the environment, or any of the world’s looming crises. She simply preferred not to waste energy worrying about things she had no control over. Plus, the clash Dr. Moss described belonged to another age, decades before she was born. She had no sense of what had been lost, if anything at all. Still, she caught herself wondering whether she might enjoy dancing naked beneath the moon in some meadow just as much as she enjoyed losing herself in one of her clubs.

"That’s terrible," she said at last. Violence was always terrible. She wished there were some way for people and faerie to reconcile their differences, but she was starting to suspect it was going to be a tad complicated if the faeries truly believed the planet was doomed if they failed to act.

"Thank you again" She squeezed Dr. Moss’s hand warmly, allowing him to guide her toward the hallway "I’d be grateful if you could help me get in touch with them. But even if you can’t, I’ll do whatever I can, just the same."

She barely had a moment to get her bearings before the woman rushed past the doctor to greet her. She still found it difficult to believe anyone could be so excited to meet her. Her rise to fame was fairly recent, and she hasn't got used to being recognized, let alone knowing how she ought to respond.

"Oh, hi." she broke into a warm smile "I’m glad you liked it!" She extended her hand without hesitation, even as she tried to get a better measure of the young woman

"Really? You want to try make contact?" Moss says eagerly. "I will look into it and let you know. Maybe we can try something?"

Max gives Emma a reverent handshake. "Yeah, I loved it. I mean, none of its real of course, but all the same you've got one hell of an imagination." She puts a hand on her hip and looks at Emma appraisingly. "You do know about the real stuff though, right? I mean, you and the doc were just talking about faeries, so you must."
