- Persephone Circe
While Persephone is in the shower, Circe glances at the paperwork in the folder, puzzled by its contents. She did not expect to be part of her sister's dates —shudder— and saw how shy Viv was when meeting, she hopes Persephone doesn't break that poor girl's heart.
Circe's thoughts are interrupted by a knock at the door. A bedraggled and slightly damp person stands there. "Delivery for a 'Benji'." They say, not sounding enthusiastic about it. They appear to be a struggling college student, maybe a bit younger than Circe herself.
What does she do?

"There are no Fae in London." Moss says, rather sadly. "They were driven out at the end of the last millennium, in a process started decades before by 'The Iron Lady' towards then end of her reign." This is the first time you have heard any concrete 'facts' about the Faeries, everyone else has been very vague. This guy clearly knows more than he is letting on.
"You certainly have a vivid imagination." Moss says happily at your description. "I confess, I have not read your book, but now I do believe I will give it a try. How do you imaging such a one would... I don't know... eat? And read, with fireflies for eyes?" He asks, almost as though this question matters.
"Frogs? Egads! I hope not!" He exclaims. You notice that, while conducting a conversation and 'being present in the moment (in the room)' you can't really hear the frogs and any bird are probably just damp pigeons.

Emma leaned back in the chair. She could have sworn Blossom called him 'Fae', but maybe she misheard, just like she misheard the clicking of the frogs. Then again, he didn't exactly deny it either...
"You seem to know an awful lot about me, and about the Fae. What are you, exactly?"

Circe looks at the papers again, puzzled. This looks like ...real estate or something. What does this have to do with demons and vampires? The knock comes to the door and Circe opens it. When the bedraggled courier speaks, Circe squeals with conspiratorial glee and leans close to him, saying, "So, like, do you work for Them? You know, the D-E-M-O-N-S?? What is it like? Did you have to sign a contract too? Like, are you trying to get out of it? How do people get out of it, anyway? ....Oh. I did that thing again where I overwhelm someone with talking. OK. Uh, here, I'll take that. Sorry. Bye, I guess?" She sheepishly takes the package and shrugs an apology before closing the door on the poor bewildered kid.
She walks over to the kitchen and quietly says, "Um, Benji? I have something for you..." He doesn't immediately stir, so she grabs a knife off the counter and cuts open the package, causing two blood bags to spill out onto the counter! And they are still warm!! She yelps in surprise and a bit of horror and jumps backwards. As she does so, she sees that her careless opening of the package with a steak knife nicked one of the bags, which is now slowly leaking a pool of warm, ostensibly human, blood, onto the counter where Benji is resting his head.

"You are rather famous." Moss says, though you may recall, from your first phone call —when you were still rather out of it— that Blossom possibly had to look you up. "And the Faeries are great. I have spent my life studying them." He looks old enough that he was probably around before they went away, though he would not have been very old back then.
"They can be a great help to us, if we would just set aside our prejudices." He says with a slight edge of what might be anger to his voice. "Look at me, I am but a simple 'Faith Healer', but I only started to see any real results after I let the faeries in."

His answer didn’t satisfy her; he had agreed to see her at a moment’s notice, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more to it. But the thought slipped from her mind the moment he mentioned the Fae.
"You’ve actually seen them?!" she perked up "What are they like? How can they help us? Are you in contact with any of them?"

Circe is beginning to panic as blood! Ew! begins to spill onto the counter, when she hears a knock again. She runs to the door and finds the courier is still there. He timidly says, "Hey, uh, I have, like, REALLY explicit instructions to present the package to Benji myself? Do you mind if…" He tries to peer past her.
Being overwhelmed, she only stammers, "What? Oh, um sure?" She turns and leaves the door open and returns to the counter, tearing paper towels. The young man enters and looks confused, then approaches Benji.

Benji is sleeping deeply, but if all the commotion Circe’s making didn’t wake him, the smell of fresh blood inches from his face certainly does. He sits bolt upright, with a startled gasp, almost falling off his chair. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to doze off. I was just—"
He cuts himself off as he takes in the situation. Warm blood spilling across the countertop. Circe trying to clean it up in a panic. Someone he doesn’t recognise standing nearby, bedraggled and still damp from the rain.
Bewildered, Benji looks to Circe for an explanation, though his attention keeps drifting back to the blood on the countertop. "What- what’s going on? Did I miss something?"

Panicking and laughing apologetically, Circe tries to stem the flow of blood across the polished marble countertop with a sopping paper towel, with increasingly less efficacy. She laughs and says, "Oh, haha I, um, I accidentally punctured this bag...of..." She gulps audibly and whispers, "...blood." Her face is pale now as she looks Benji in the eyes. Her voice, now small, continues, saying, "Um, Persephone made a call, and said this was for you... And that guy brought it. And insisted that he present himself to you, like face to face?"
The raggedy student replies, clearly confused and uncomfortable about the blood, saying, "Uh, yeah, they said I had to be, like, in front of you and hand it to you and say..." he clears his throat and says something he has clearly been told to say verbatim. he says, "Ahem... I have a delivery, and I'm here in case you have the need." He clearly is struggling to understand the meaning of the words, but does not see the mortal danger he is in.
Circe is beginning to put two and two together, however. She stammers, "Wait... Wait. Like, wait. Like HE is the package too? No. Benji, no. Please don't..." She begins to back away, frightened and concerned.

"Oh! No, no, no, that’s not—I didn’t ask for—I don’t want--," Benji stammers, flustered. He doesn’t know what to say to this poor delivery person, but he certainly doesn’t want to bite him in the middle of Persephone’s condo. Especially not in front of Circe, who seems frightened already. "Th-thank you, but that won’t be necessary," he says, awkwardly. "You can go, if you like."
He turns his attention to the pool of blood on the counter and gingerly picks up the punctured bag to stop it leaking everywhere. It feels warm. Maybe it’s fresh and not all chemically like bagged blood usually is? "Persephone sent for all this for me? That was very thoughtful of her. And generous." He frowns. "Come to think of it… where is she?"
Not wanting any more blood to be wasted (or spilled all over the fancy countertop), he puts the punctured corner of the blood bag in his mouth.

Circe watches trepidatiously as Benji awakens, seemingly expecting him to lunge at the poor courier's throat or something. When he instead reacts with flustered stammering and sends him away, she looks confused and is about to ask him a question, but instead she walks the guy to the door saying only, "Um, ok you did the thing. Now go home and, uh, maybe don't take jobs from whoever hired you again, ok?"
When she returns, she sees Benji drinking blood from the bag and her confusion eases. "Ah, ok," she says. "I was wondering, like what kind of vampire are you? I thought, you know, vampires were ravenous predators." She looks thoughtfully and then adds, "But then again, I guess sometimes they are like Louis from Interview with a Vampire, right? Like, for a large part of the book, he refuses to even drink from humans, settling for rats and stuff, and by the end he only drinks like you do, out of blood bags. So do you, like, have a connection at the local blood bank or something? or do you drink animal blood?"
About this time, Persephone emerges from the bedroom for a moment, in a robe and with her hair up in a towel. She says, "Oh good, you got the package. I hope it's palatable for you? I don't really know anything about your kind, but I assumed my employer would. OK, I am going to get ready for my date. Circe, I'd like you not to be here for the evening; your presence would likely deter Viv's libido." Circe gets a look of disgust at Persephone's callousness a comments, "Sis, we NEED to get that tattoo thing off your back. You are super gross with it. Like, seriously sociopathic."
Persephone swishes her hand as if swatting away Circe's concern like a fly. Then, seeing the papers, Persephone says, "Oh yes! Benji, please examine those papers. Henry acquired them; they concern some real estate near Hyde Park that Chaudry and the Club folks trade in, and it may include the land beneath which I met my death. I'd like to see if we can discover a weakness, or perhaps some leverage."

"I have a few friends who let me bite them every now and then," Benji explains, happy to indulge Circe's curiosity. "I do have a friend who was supplying me with blood bags like this for a while, but he’s out of town and I don’t think he’ll be coming back anytime soon so I’m going to have to figure out something else soon… I don’t really like to feed on animals. They taste… unpleasant, and it’s much more difficult to feed on a rat or a pigeon without killing them than a human. Besides, most animals are so small that they do little to quell the hunger, anyway. I’d have to kill like twenty rats just to replace one human, which hardly seems fair to the rats, you know."
He smiles when Persephone emerges from the bedroom. "Persephone! I was just wondering where you were! Yes, this is lovely, thank you!"
He picks up the papers Persephone indicated but as soon as she leaves the room again, he says to Circe, in a low voice, "What’s this about a sociopathic tattoo?"

Circe starts to step closer to Benji to whisper, but her eyes glance to the empty blood bag and she instead steps around to the far side of the kitchen island. She speaks quietly, replying, "Oh my god! You haven't noticed? When her boss, like, beamed her out of the hospital, he added this red symbol on her back that, like, completely turned off her emotions! Now she behaves like that douchebags she used to complain about back in Silicon Valley, those startup bros and venture capitalists. We need to get it off her or something!"
Sep 4, 2025 12:57 am
Benji doesn’t exactly know what a ‘startup bro’ is, but he has certainly noticed the changes in Persephone’s behaviour. "That does seem… bad," he agrees, frowning. "But… if it’s a tattoo, how exactly do you suggest we get it off?"
Sep 4, 2025 1:17 am
Circe shrugs and says, "Well, I don't know if it's actually a tattoo. Maybe it's like, a temporary tattoo? Or a sharpie drawing? Maybe we just need to, like, erase a part of it, like in the movies when they break the protective circle and let the demon out, or whatever."
Sep 4, 2025 1:35 am
"Well, it seems like she just had a shower, which suggests that it probably can’t be washed off by ordinary soap and water, right?" says Benji. "I don’t know much about magical tattoos, I’m afraid. My friend, Yasmine, knows a lot about demons and magic though and she has some occult tattoos herself. Perhaps she would know how to remove it?"
Sep 4, 2025 5:35 am
Circe nods and says, "Um, OK, can we text her or something?" She thinks for a moment and adds, "Hey, maybe, it's like a henna tattoo? Like, maybe it will last for a few days but then fade? She said it was so she could function again, after having a breakdown from the trauma of being ...um... murdered. Did that REALLY happen, by the way? Like, HOW? Why was she alone? Who would want to kill her? Why didn't... why didn't anyone protect her?"
Sep 4, 2025 6:08 am
"Oh, good idea!" Benji pulls out his phone to text Yasmine when Circe begins asking about Persephone’s death. A guilt-stricken expression crosses his face when Circe wonders why Persephone was alone and why no one protected her. "It’s my fault she was alone," he says, miserably. "I was there, like I said, and I should have stayed to protect her but… Well, there were these demons chasing Emma and Persephone looked so scary in her demon form that I thought for sure she would be fine on her own. So I went after the demons chasing Emma, thinking that she needed my help more than Persephone did, but Emma somehow managed to escape on her own and, by the time I got back, there was so much blood…"

"Seen? No, no, no. There are no faeries in London." Moss reiterates wistfully. "But I have studied them all my life."
When you ask what they are like he goes into a long explanation about benevolent protectors of nature and helpful tinkers that clean houses and repair shoes. "They could teach us a lot a renewable energy and climate change." He concludes. "I mean, look at how the world has gone to hell in a hand-basket in the decades since they have been gone."
He studiously avoids answering your question about 'being in contact', it may be wise to wait till he is finished his work before risking pushing on that point.
