"Come, but on soft feet," the goblin whispered excitedly "we need light to see…"
OOC:
Awesome! Of course Borgo will get crestfallen when he realizes a third of the party has been taken… but that’s a talk for later!
Jul 3, 2026 4:16 pm
Marev snaps his head around, keeping the grim discovery of the missing tracks to himself for a brief moment as his eyes lock onto Borgo tracing the hidden seam

"Careful, Borgo,"Marev murmurs, his voice instantly flattening out as the anvil swallows the sound

He gives a quick hand gesture to bring the torchlight over to Borgo
Jul 5, 2026 8:05 am
Berith whispers to Marev and Elspaeth to stay close as she makes her way to Borgo with the torch.
Jul 5, 2026 11:13 pm
Elspaeth can't believe what her eyes are seeing. She nods absently and moves with the others towards the opening.
Jul 6, 2026 3:25 am
The three remaining party members move closer to stand near Borgo with torch held high, illuminating the room fully. The deep shadows the cisterns cast are banished and the clear waters reveal their plain bottoms to any who bother to look.

The doorway is visible to all. It stands about 4.5 feet high and about 3 feet wide. The taller of you will need to duck to enter but otherwise nothing seems to bar your entry. With the door only just barely ajar you cannot see anything inside as of yet.
OOC:
What do the intrepid explorers want to do? I didn’t want to make any presumptions in case you had specific ideas or plans.

"We open more, yes?" the goblin whispered excitedly, looking back at his companions.

Then his face turned sour.

"Aren't the others coming?", he asked.
OOC:
We don't need to role-play the issue of the disappeared party-membres if you don't want to. Borgo has seen two companions be taken over by these abominations, and strongly suspects he'll see a third — and now four and fifth — show up later in the day.
Jul 6, 2026 5:16 pm
"They aren't coming," Marev says flatly, his voice a grim murmur. Nord went back to the stairs. Vennok's tracks just stop. Either snatched or jumped. Watch the ceilings."

He wedges his shoulder against the low stone door, helping the goblin push it open while drawing his weapon.

"We open it,"he mutters. "Go in low and cautious."
OOC:
Marev delivered the news about the missing party so i figured that would wrap it up

Marev, Elspaeth and Berith stand back as the goblin slowly pushes the door open. It move soundlessly to reveal a small 10' by 10' room with three medium sized wooden chests. Standing in the now open doorway, two chest are against the wall to Borgo's left and a single chest is agains the wall on the right. Each chest looks sturdy and well made but none appears to be locked that you can see.

The room is otherwise unadorn but for the ubitquitous blocky designs you have seen throughout this temple so far.

"Interesting," the goblin muttered. He drew a coil of rope from his rucksack and swiftly tied it around his waist. He handed the other end to Marev, "Hold tight, we,ve been fooled by illusions and chute traps".

Once he was sure that his companion secured him, Borgo stepped into the cubicle and began to consider the three chests without yet touching them.

"I may have something that will help." Elspaeth offers. "Though, if we aren't sure what we've come for is within or close, we will have wasted our luck."

With the close proximity and full illumination of the flickering torchlight, you don't see anything that might lead you to believe there are any illusory floors or chests. Each seems solid, as does the floor. Your tentative steps confirm that much. Each chest casts proper shadows in response to the dancing flames.

Each chest is wooden, flat topped and utilitarian in appearance, though well crafted. They are approximately 4' in length and 2-3' deep and about 2' high. Each chest has a sturdy wooden handle built into each side for transport. Looking from the side, there are simple metal hinges at the back, bronze you guess. All the lids are all closed and having no handles or lips, you presume they open by simply grabbing the lid and lifting.

You know you come seeking the Bands of Power. The wizard who seeks them descibed them as some kind of bracers or perhaps gauntlets which legend says are encrusted with rubies.

Considering Elspaeth's offer, Berith tilts her head, looking at the chests and Borgo. A flash of memory of stepping and suddenly not having solid floor beneath her makes Berith shudder.

"I don't know if the bracers would be this close to the entrance. It might be good to hold onto that for now Elspaeth. Although this was a well-hidden room, we missed it the first time through."

Following Borgo's path, she slowly enters the room. "What say you Borgo, any of them calling to you?"
Jul 8, 2026 1:10 pm
"I’ll start with the single chest," the goblin stated, cracking his knuckles. He approaches the chest that stands alone, stand to one side of it, and touches the lid softly. If nothing happens, he will alllow his hand to seek the edge of the lid, and then try to open it up.
OOC:
Checking the chest for traps before.

Marev tugs at the rope making sure it's sturdy
"I got it Borgo he says "Lets see whats in that chest"

Borgo's footing remains sure and solid as he takes careful steps up to the first chest. He lightly places his hands on the lid. It is solid and real. Lifting the lid requires both hands, and inside he sees a well preserved suit of leather armor. Turning to the other two chests which he is sure are just as mundane, he finds other potentially userful gear.
OOC:
After a few minutes of looking you find identify the following items in the three chests:
1 suit of leather armor
2 longswords
1 backpack
5 torches
2 bags of caltrops
2 spooled 60ft hempen ropes
1 dagger

Berith: Torch (40mins)

The rope was a good idea. I missed that in my initial read through. :)

"Well, rather useful, if a bit mundane-looking?" the goblin commented, as he presented the different objects contained in the chests. He then examined the bottoms of these chests, knowing that such container often contained secret compartments. Once satisfied there was nothing else to find in the chests, he turned his attention to the nearby walls: this cubicle contained useful and interesting gear, it did not seem clear why this would stand right next to an obviously religious area. There must be more to this…
OOC:
Does it look like Borgo could use the well-preserved suit of leather armor? He sniffs the tang of magic, or at least ritual, in this and perhaps other objects.

After he’s done examining the chests, Borgo would like to search for any further concealed passages in this space, before returning to the anvil room. Does this area look purely functional, or does it have any decorations or architectural details that suggests it is in continuity with the Anvil room?

Marev keeps a firm grip on the rope, keeping his eyes locked on the dark corners of the anvil room while Borgo sifts through the chests.

"Let's keep moving. We'll split the spoils later," Marev says quietly, his elven senses on high alert
OOC:
Marev is holding the rope and keeping watch while Borgo loots and searches. He's also observing the contents of the chest

OOC:
Sure. It would fit him. Maybe a bit loosely as it was orginally sized for dwarves, but it will do. FYI, anyone can make it work. I'm not really bothering with "sized" armor here. :) It doesn't look any more special than any other well stored suit of leather armor. With the room sealed, the chest closed, and it apparently having been well oiled when put away, you are just impressed that it's in as good nick as it is.
Having found a small cache of sealed away equipment and found nothing else of interest after some searching, the team finds themselves back near the door in the Anvil Room, preparing to enter the main room for further exploration.

Berith Torch: 30 Mins

Satisfied he had done what was possible in the small concealed room, Borgo undid the knot around his waist, coiled the rope, and stored it neatly in his pack.

"Guess we could check if a similar space exists by the other pool. And if not, get moving further down..."
OOC:
If it is obvious to Borgo that the armour is not of superior quality to the gear he already owns, he will leave it in the chest. Are the chests moveable, or are they affixed to the flooring of the chamber?

Before leaving the anvil room, Borgo would like to examine the walls around the opposite fountain to seek out a concealed passage.

Finally, is it clear to Borgo that the sound distorting effects in this room are new? I have no recollection of this dampening effect when we first visited this place for the first time...

Marev grabs the leather armor after Borgo sets it down and puts it on once the party is at the main entrance of the anvil room he then points at the caltrops I know how to use those". He looks at Borgo " Good job Borgo you have a keen eye. We can come back to the Anvil later. We need to continue on"
He puts on the armor and stretches his arms Making sure it fits well.
Marev turns towards the main room and leads the way staying just within reach of the torchlight and partially in the shadows as he carefully studies the entrance
OOC:
If Borgo don't want the armor I'll take it! I dont need the longsword my dagger is fine but I could make good use of those caltrops as well. That is up to the group though if nobody else needs a long sword I might as well take one.
What benefits does the Armor give?
