While Marev dons the armor found in the secret room, Borgo take some time to look at the far side of the Anvil room. Elspaeth and Berith stand near the exit to the main room keeping a eye out and trying not to let pitch drip on their fingers.
OOC:
The far wall appears to be without crack, seem or crevice which could hide a portal of any kind. There either isn't one there, or the skill of it's hiding is beyond Borgo's powers to discern.

Borgo remembers the distortion from banging on the anvil itself before. Those sounds had been muted in some strange way. Now it's affecting your voices. Who can say why? Surely a Goblin worshipper of Gede.

Marev, though familiar with the Anvil of Ord, is not clergyman and unfamiliar with the goings on of Dwarves in any case. He can feel that this is a bastion of Order, or was. To him there is a faint whispers of it like the distant, barely audible reverberation of a blacksmith's hammer blow on steel.

The armor acts as "normal" leather, but you can enter it on your Char Sheet as "Leather Armor of the Dwarven Sect of Ord".

Looking through the items, Berith snags the dagger and a torch to fill up. "The longsword and caltrops are yours if you want Marev.
OOC:
I actually don't remember if I removed a torch last time we were in here so I'll take either 1 or 2 to hit my limit. Just in case anyone else wants to take a torch.
Jul 18, 2026 8:58 pm
Marev rolls his shoulders, adjusting to the fit of the stiff dwarven leather. He sheathes the new longsword and secures the caltrops at his belt, feeling a lot more prepared for whatever is lurking in the dark.

"Good eyes, Borgo,"
Marev murmurs, his voice still slightly flattened by the room. "Let's make sure we aren't the next ones to leave missing tracks"

With a nod to the group, Marev slips silently out of the Anvil Room. He steps into the main chamber, keeping to the edge of the torchlight where the shadows are deepest. Longsword drawn, he peers into the gloom, checking the floors and ceilings for any sign of movement.
OOC:
Thanks for the loot! Do you want me to hang onto the rope as well? We might need it.
Marev is leading the way out, staying near the light's edge and watching the ceilings. Where too now?
OOC:
Also realized there was a backpack in there as well. Nobody else wants it?

Marev's movements are ungainly and heavy with the added weight at his waist and the rope in his pack. His light-step feels slow and awkward as he makes his way out to the extent of the torchlight where it merges with the dim light coming down the stairwell to his left. He crosses over onto the central pattern and ends up near the mid-line of it. To his right, the empty center of the pattern is partially illuminated. Nothing moves in the light of Berith's torch but Marev and the dark does not divulge it's secrets easily.
OOC:
Marev is carrying too much kit. Each bag of caltrops takes one equipment slot, so you are one over. What will you leave behind?

Marev is currently 30' ahead of the party at the extent of Berith's torchlight. I presume he's walked straight out into the room towards where tho others said the door at the other end of the room is. He can tell the pattern on the floor is likely a hexagon as Bogro and the others explained earlier, as the entire thing is not illuminated. Though he cannot read the dwarven rooms graven and inlaid into it, he does see some symbols of Ord and Order amongst them.

The rest of the group stands in the main room just outside the doors to the Anvil room. Waiting to see if Marev dissappears, perhaps?
Jul 21, 2026 5:48 pm
Marev pauses near the center of the inlaid floor, feeling the awkward shift of extra gear against his hips. He quickly slips on the recovered backpack and sets the extra coil of rope down at his feet.

"Extra rope here if anyone wants to carry it," Marev whispers back toward the doorway. He is also curious to see if he leaves it here if it will remain untouched later on

He draws his sword, eyeing the faint symbols of Ord gleaming in the torchlight, and gestures for the group to advance.

"Floor's solid so far" he says as he waits for the party to get closer with the torch
OOC:
Marev equips the backpack (+4 slots) and drops the 60ft spooled rope for anyone else to grab.
OOC:
Marev holds his position 30' ahead and signals the team to bring the torchlight forward
OOC:
Also just realized Berith left an extra torch. Ill just say i took that as well if thats ok since I only have 1 torch

After placing the rope down and reassuring the party that the way seems safe, Marev stands waiting for the others...
Jul 22, 2026 3:26 am
Following Marev's lead, Berith walks out into the main chamber and tries to keep the torchlight only just outside of his area so that he can remain in shadows. "Maybe we should search this room more closely as well to see if there is anything to find that we missed previously," she whispers to the group as she doesn't want her voice to carry too far outside of the area. She'll slowly start walking around the perimeter of the room reaquainting herself with it and then she'll move inwards toward the pattern.
OOC:
Berith will be looking for anything to suggest a secret door or something in the floor like she saw earlier in their first visit.
Jul 27, 2026 10:22 am
Berith begins to make her way carefully into the main room, moving off to the right of Marev at about 45 degree angle to keep him illuminated. She moves slowly with her torch held high studying the floor carefully. Slowing lest she miss something hidden in the floors design she deliverately makes her way onto it and beghind to traverse each row of glyphs towards the opposite side of it's central space.
Wondering if she should feel something after passing through the broad expanse of symbols, she suddenly freezes in place. There. Just ahead. Taking a few steps to the side, and bringing the torch closer to the floor makes her certain. A crack or seam in the running across this far side of the central space and into the border ahead and possibly behind.

Sweat beading her brow, Berith slowly kneels close to the seem and tracks it back where it enters the engravings and signs when she see that it turns away from her (towards the wall opposite the stairs). She is not encompassed by whatever this is. Signalling to the others that she is not in immediate danger, she moves forwards to the other side of the central space and see that the seam goes a short way into the engravings on that side as well before turning away as well. So this side at least is about 10' across. Given that the far wall is only about 15' away, she can guess this crack outlines something 10'x15' at most, unless it has some irregular shape.

Most of Marev's attention has been on Berith and her findings, but as her light came forward, an irregular patch glints in the light near door. It has the look of something wet and perhaps dark.
OOC:
Okay! Berith is currently standing about 35' across the room from the Anvil room doors, and between 15-20' from the wall opposite the stairs. Marev remains to her left, now fully illuminated by Berith's torch as she's forgotten about lighting him for the moment. Her torch illuminates much of this side of the room, exposing both columns and the door leading to the library which is still open as they left it before.

Seeing Berith examining something closely on the ground the little goblin rushes next to her companion, and observes whatever she is focused on. "What is it Berith, foi d something unusual?"
OOC:
So there is a groove delimiting a 10x15 section of the floor, is that it?

OOC:
10' by up to 15'. She has only traced the length passing through the central area of the design on the floor and seen that it goes towards the wall on either side. She hasn't followed it all the way on either side to see if they extend that far. The cracks appear to extend out at a 90 degree angle as well, so assuming a square or circle, but it's possible they could angle in or out further away. Someone would need have a look to tell for certain how they extend. The patterning on the floor makes it difficult to tell from where she is.

Berith is certain that if it is some kind of trap, it should be easily avoided now that it's been spotted.
Jul 31, 2026 3:30 am
Marev shifts his gaze as the expanding torchlight catches the subtle glint of moisture near the door. He keeps one eye on the perimeter while motioning toward the suspicious patch with the tip of his blade.

"We should watch our step"
Marev whispers quietly to Berith and Borgo, nodding toward the 10'x15' seam in the floor.
"Someone or something might have been messing around this door recently. Let me check this wet spot before we step any further"

He crouches low, while inspecting the floor to see if he can spot any prints, drag marks, or signs of what left the liquid.
OOC:
Marev is using his Wayfinder talent with advantage on tracking to examine the wet/dark patch near the Seams

Creeping carefully forward towards the dark maw of the partially opened doorway. One large door opens to blackness with the torchlight failing to illuminate the interior. The pool of dark fluid is approximately the diameter of his opened palm, and Marev sees that is obviously blood. Relatively fresh blood. Blowing on it softly he can tell it has thickened, but as no crust has formed it is likely no more than about 30 minutes since it was spilled. Not necessarily a big enough puddle for whatever was wounded to have been struck a mortal blow but they would likely be needing immediate medical treatment.

Recalling his missing companions, Marev reckons that it's been around that long since they'd noticed them gone.

Scanning around, he doesn't see any more blood (or black fluid) nearby; only this small pool and a few drops but the traces of past traffic in and out are present. Not much trace given the stone floor, but the scant dust accumulated since whenever this place was first broached was enough for his trained skills to reveal that many shod feet had passed in and out of this portal. Who or what though, he cannot say but he assumes at least some of them are from the first group to come down here.
Jul 31, 2026 11:50 pm
"Are we ready to move on yet?" Elspaeth asks in an obviously frustrated voice. "We're here for one reason. Let's about it. Shall We?"
Aug 1, 2026 4:33 am
Moving closer to Marev, Berith sees the glint of blood. Waving the torch around in the direction of the lines in the floor, "Does it look like a trap or do you think it might be an entrance to a secret chamber? We could go through the way we did last time or try to find a different way. Our companions may have been taken down into whatever that is."
Aug 1, 2026 7:33 am
"That’s what I’m trying to find out: trap or entrance? As we saw below, in the false treasure room, some traps lead to other rooms, and those contain horrible monsters we cannot fight against…"
OOC:
If he has enough light, Borgo will follow the seam around, making sure that he is on the ‘outside’ of the potentially trapped area. If he doesn’t have the light, he’ll ask for Berith to bring the light closer. Last time we fought skeletons here, so we didn’t really take the time to explore the area fully.
Aug 3, 2026 1:27 am
With careful observation, Borgo is able to circumnavigate a 10' by 10' square, well short of reaching the wall. After a few moments consideration he decides it's most certainly a pit trap of some kind. The size and position alone are big indicators, but the lack of any method for opening it, other than presumably stepping out into the space bounded by seams, clinches it in his mind. He expects that the application of enough pressure would trigger the trap, dropping whoever stood on in down a deep hole to who knows what grisly end.

Or, remembering Berith's slide into the Black Horror's lair, it might lead some where. But perhaps somewhere, you might not want to go in that much of a hurry.

Berith Torch: 20 Mins

"Watch out, in this area," the goblin pointed out. "Some kind of pit trap" he added, with finality. "I guess its back the way we came, unless someone wants to lower me down this trap…"

As incongruous as the suggestion may have been, the goblin sounded dead serious.
Aug 4, 2026 1:24 am
"We can certainly try to lower you down Borgo." Berith says hesitantly, "Last time the monster followed me up but if we can seal the trap up again, we could trap it down there." Looking down at the section, Berith cocks her head to one side. "Marev and I could hold you while Elspaeth watches our back."
Aug 4, 2026 8:57 am
....Borgo remembers the previous trap as an open pit with the only covering being an illusory floor. This one has a very solid looking slab of stone. He wonders how it returns to place and how quickly. The massive doors in this room swing quite easily once you get them moving. ...If the Dwarves were just as clever with this then perhaps the answer is immediately; would it jam on the rope or cut it? ...or him?
Aug 4, 2026 7:24 pm
Elspaeth nods at Berith's suggestion. "I have you covered." She gives a slight movement of the crossbow in her grip and peers around them once more.
