The Beast of Bacrana

Feb 8, 2026 2:22 am
Then ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

The cold wind whipped across the grassland, driving snow with it. With a frustrated grunt, the figure tugged his fluttering cloak back in place and peered out towards the mountains, now hidden by the snow and low clouds, leaving him wondering why the elders chose the plains over the protection of the forests and mountains.

The 'beast' he thought with a slight roll of his eyes as he turned, "come kids or we'll be late for the story."

Stories ... legends ... of the mythical, deity-like creature who stood sentinel over the colony when it had just begun. The very weather responding with fury or calm in reaction to the beasts supposed anger or approval. With an amused grunt he shooed his children towards the great hall, welcoming the warmth contain therein if nothing else ... and he supposed, the Elder's story was pretty good as well.

He did not exactly open his eyes as he felt the ship jostling, but awareness came to them. The liner was too vast to be truly moved, its hold filled with victuals it would exchange with rich ore, its berths overloaded with fresh-eyed prospectors it would replace with weary, soot-stained ex-frontiersmen.

His eyes went from dull and gray to a pale green, as inscrutable structures behind their compound lenses rearranged themselves. They keenly scanned the common sleeping berth. His ammonia booth had been taken, and he had simply sat on the floor. Many seemed to want to land on this world. Some, apparently, so badly they could not bother to be listed on the manifest.

His gaze did not have to travel far to be met with another, an ortolan child seated across the aisle. Its beady black eyes were rapt with curiosity, taken by the stillness of its fellow traveller.

"Hello."
The child's greeting was forward. Ordinary.

He found himself compelled to respond. One arm lifted from his leg, its first finger extended slightly. It was not quite a wave, more an acknowledgement.

"Are you a Jedi?" The question was abrupt. Almost too swift. Once the formality of greeting had passed, clearly, the child had no more use for decorum.

He took his first breath of the hour, his throat rumbling, his speech amplified just slightly by the vocoder built into his mask. His voice seemed to vibrate, a hoarse croak one might associate with disuse, were it not for his mask and insectile countenance. "Yes."

"I thought so. I saw your laser sword. Mum said it was a glow rod but I knew better."

He lowered his hand to the accoutrment hanging from his belt. A netted pouch carrying a handful of sanitary items. Two spare tanks of ammonia gas. And his lightsaber. A blocky thing with greenish brasslike fittings, wrapped around with cross-hatched rubber, for easy grip with both of his small, three-fingered hands. Perhaps, given his small frame, a shoto would have been less conspicuous, but he had learned what his Master had trained him. If he wanted a weapon to be easy, to work its way up his chain of intuition, he would carry a blaster.

He did not share these thoughts with the child. The child tried to mask its disappointment with another question.

"Can I see it?"

"It is not for showing."

The child inhaled, but what words it had planned to exhale were lost in a gasp of surprise, as two turquoise hands swept around it. He turned his head to the large, female ortolan, now putting the child over her shoulder, letting it get a look at its father, a bit further past the bulkhead. She dipped slightly, as much of a curt bow as she could manage while wrangling a squirming adolescent. "A thousand apologies, master Jedi... Gand... sir." She stumbled a little over the conflicting cultural honorifics.

"This Gand is not troubled," he spoke, perhaps not-so-subtly smoothing her tangled tongue. He lifted his hand again, flexing it open in a soft gesture of absolution and contrition. A versatile somatic trick among the fragmented unGand. It had not offended anyone yet.

The woman took a moment, turning around, and giving her child a whispered scolding. The young ortolan ran to the shelter of its father. But she hesitated.

He made no move, not to wave her away, nor welcome her.

"There won't... be, any trouble, will there? Master Jedi?" Her head turned, and she gave him a worried look.

He could sense her unease. She was concerned to see one of the Jedi coming to such a world, where she had seen fit to stay with her children, at least for a time. Her use of his title had been as unsubtle as his correction.

His breath mask hissed as he took in a deeper breath to answer her, hopefully more fully. "It is the Order's hope that this Gand's presence here will ensure that there is no trouble." His mask hissed again as he inhaled. "It is a courtesy that the Order and This Gand extend to the many new colonists here, and the peoples and companies that employ them."

It was true. The Order hoped that the presence of a Jedi Knight, however freshly engraved that title was, would encourage both the burgeoning criminal element and the overbearing corporations who sought to exploit this new, novel administrative state to step a little more lightly. His real job here was to cool the temperature of this venture by merely existing. It was hoped that the expected light administrative duties would enhance his 'soft' skills, as his Master had put it. And he would have the chance to meditate and explore the mysteries of the force outside of the confines of his temple, without the guidance of his Master.

Independently.

A mandible quivered against the seal of his mask, the pressure beginning to rise again in his temples. This was a test in more ways than one.

He turned to the woman. He was not capable of smiling. He was barely capable of modulating his voice. But he sought to reassure her. To smooth over the ripples of fear.

His mask clicked twice, as he drew in two short breaths. One for himself, and one to speak again. "There will be no trouble."

The droid's optical sensors click on, and it takes a moment for the light-levels to even out.

Matey was certain that, if he could experience boredom, he would be bored. He had been powered-down for seven standard-days. The maximum amount of time that he permitted himself to be powered down, without activation and a "check-in" with his biological counterparts.

He hoped they weren't dead. That would be a suboptimal scenario....

They had been on Bacrana for many more standard-days than that, now, and still no new work had come along. (Because otherwise they surely would have activated him, wouldn't they?)

They had come to this Galactic-backwater because, well, the end point of their last job had put them close to it. And also it was supposedly a hot-bed of activity...

What activity, exactly, Matey wasn't certain.

He had scanned his holodisks for data about the planet before their arrival; terrestrial body, approximately standard gravity, Type I/breathable atmosphere, low orbital position - and so a generally tolerable climate for the range facilitated by carbon-based chassis... after That One Unfortunate Incident, he was always sure to verify these parameters now ...

And also lots of different actors pulling at lots of different strings.

He opened the engineering closet door and stepped out, cranking up his amine and sulfurous aromatic-chain sensors, because... as he understood it, dead things really smelled bad.
OOC:
Went ahead and created some realities for the bounty-crew (timeline stuff), so I apologize if those particular elements don't align with what others were imagining. But... didn't really no where else to do with this intro "scene" :)

This was a mistake. It had to be. He'd sort it out as soon as he could find a comm station. He had done well in tests, his attending doctor spoke highly of him, how could they punish him like this. Sure, they paid for his way through medical school and he'd work it off. He just hadn't expected that the company that paid his way would be bought up by a mining corporation. Of course he could refuse, but then he'd have to pay them back. He'd be in debt for decades. No better to work the system and be debt free in a fraction of the time.

He stepped out of the shuttle, the sun stinging his eyes, despite the dust in the air. It was four steps off the terminal before his expensive shoes was ruined by the muddy ground. At least he had a welcoming comittee as in front of him stood a Zabrak in oil stained coveralls.

"Welcome doc," the Zabrak smiled and held out an equally stained hand. Deng took it hesitantly.

"Thanks, but I believe there's been a mistake," Deng replied. "I will sort this out and be out of here within a week."

"Long as you do your job while you're here," the Zabrak said.

"I won't turn away anyone needing help," Deng said and followed the Zabrak into a landspeeder. He could do this he thought. Just a week or two tops and he'd get this sorted out and get back to the Core Worlds.

6 months later

"Put Mr. Javand in examination room 2, I'll be with him in a moment," Deng stuck his upper body out the door of his modest office to notify the reseptionist.

He closed the door and sat back down behind the desk. "Sorry about that," he said to local representative of the Lant Mining Corp. "Now where was we."

"You were trying to explain to me how you shouldn't be here," the corporate agent said with a smile. "But the thing is you signed a contract, and unless you can pay it down, you are stuck here. These people need a doctor."

"I signed with a local ore processing company company on Corellia, I thought the stipulation that I would have to move meant another city," Deng said with a sigh.

"And when we bought that company and all its contracts that move got a bit further than you expected,"" the corp agent replied. "But as it stands my hands are tied. The people here deserve medical attention, and you have 3 year left on the contract."

The two was interrupted by the door to the office bursting open. "Doc you need to come. Been an accident at mine 34."

Without thinking, Deng grabbed his doctors bag and was halfway out the door. "Don't think this conversation is over," Deng told the corp agent.

Rushing past the receptionist Deng suddenly remembered. "Apologize to Mr. Javand, try to reschedule."

Reynar Thonn jokingly referred to the Cantina as 'his office." It was true enough, this was were he did most of his business. Of all the wretched hives of scum and villainy out there The Mineshaft certainly was one of the wretchedest. Everybody has a side hustle, small time spice dealers, gamblers, black marketeers, a bounty hunter fit right in.

Problem was bounty pucks had been in short supply lately. It was so bad the droid had turned himself off for a week, Reynar didn't have that option, not with his current booze and spice budget anyway. He'd considered taking up an honest trade, like sabacc, but the pickings here? He was better off contacting the guild every standard week to see if they'd send him somewhere else, anywhere else.

But evidently he hadn't paid his penance yet. The Guild liked their hunters professional, it gave clients confidence. You could hire a triggerman for fifty cred, probably less, but you'd get what you paid for. "Reynar, you need to stop thinking with your blaster," the said. "If you want to get tapped for big time jobs you gotta be clean, no collateral damage. Follow the rules...". So he stayed here, as far from the big time as you could get. You couldn't even see the big time from here.

"Got anything?". He looked at the bartender. "Smugglers? Non guild miners? Anything?". The Arcona behind the bar blinked his gold eyes at Reynar, he was salted to the gills. No help there. Maybe he'd contact the guild, or see if the droid moved, the fun never stopped on Barcana.

Garrik Kade stepped off the transport and took a slow look across Bacrana’s settlement. New structures, fresh mining equipment, and too many people trying to make a living in a place that didn’t seem ready for them yet. The cold wind didn’t bother him. He’d worked harsher worlds.

The contract had been vague. Something about losses outside the perimeter and locals talking about a beast. That was enough to get his attention. Frontier colonies rarely asked for help unless things were already going wrong.

He adjusted the rifle on his shoulder and started toward the main hall, moving with the steady patience of someone used to watching before acting. He wasn’t here to make friends.

Just to see what kind of trouble Bacrana was hiding.

Then ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

Stumbling, Kordath caught his self and paused to catch his breath, a trembling hand coming up to wipe his brow, still reeling from what he had encountered, knowing the trouble he would be in for ignoring the Council's, and Elders, wishes about going into the mountains. The stories though had always intrigued him, not only when he was very young but even still ... not that he was old enough to be considered anything other than a youth. Gathering his self with a calming breath, hands now less shaky as he sipped from his canteen, the fear he had felt was quickly being replaced with awe, the uneasiness with excitement, his thoughts now wrestling with whether or not to share what he had seen and risk getting in trouble or keep it secret. Turning, Kordath peered back over his shoulder, taking in the thick forest behind, straining to see if he might catch a second glimpse. His fear over punishment for ignoring the town's rules regarding the mountains quickly being replaced with an eagerness to explore the towering peaks that dominated the skyline of his home, to prove that the legends were true.

A flash of light, sunlight glinting off something metal, pulled his attention above the mountainous summit, a dark speck against the deep blue sky, seemingly growing in size. Kordath's eyes narrowed, limiting the blinding glare from the snow capped heights, wondering if he was seeing a mirage. The speck was joined by more, a low rumble carried on the wind, whatever concerns he might have had for disobeying the town's statutes fading, as he took off at a run.

Their community was small. Bacrana, being in a relatively unexplored sector, was well of the traveled hyperspace routes. But, every naughty child had been cooed by tales of pirates abducting troublesome children who didn't listen to their elders. While he was old enough to know that was untrue, the threat of pirates attacking was still true. Racing into town Kordath was joined by his friends Kobbie and Cunha, who were also excitedly running towards the town square.

"Have you heard?"

"Visitors. From Offworld."

"Some kind of company.

"Do you think they'll bring more people? Maybe some girls?"

"We have girls!

Kordeth remained silent, letting his friends speak as he contemplated his earlier encounter, the elders' stories pushing to the forefront of his mind. How much of the stories were myth, how much were true, and what would the presence of an off-world corporation change.

Again, not trying to step on anyone's toes. Just didn't know what else to do with this scene. So trying to put us in a place where we get to interact.

Kier if there's something else you wanted to do, you can always "flashback"-in something you did between the cantina and the ship. Or go somewhere/do something else ofc after.

Also... I really don't have a "voice" in mind for this PC yet, so going to try some different things.

Apologies if he seems to change personalities or "voice" as we go along...
Matey is stooped over a holo-screen when Reynar walks into the starship common area. The droid straightens, servos whirring, as his head rotates independent of the rest of his body.

"Oh! Reynar!?

I was just scanning the local medical records to see if you'd perished!

So glad to see it is not so! ...

If I experienced emotions such as gladness...
", the droid muttered to itself.

"You know what I mean."

The droids voice sounded like those of the Trade Federation's B-2 battle droids. It was the only available vocal module that was compatible with the droid's chassis, when he was rebuilt.

Just as an archival droid-brain was the only processing module available and compatible...

Those two elements paired with the powerful and lethal combat configuration of his IG "Magnaguard" model frame (and in-built combat programming) made for a sometimes disjointed... "experience" of this droid.

Now ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

The mining encampment had grown significantly in the few short months since the corporate scouts had first landed their ships and declared their intentions to mine the mountains that dominated the skyline. Respectfully, perhaps knowing the rough and tumble beings mining and extraction attracted, the camp had been erected some distance from the small established settlement, a small colony, whose generations had enjoyed a somewhat peaceful existence on the frontier, well away from the hustle and bustle of the core, and in what they had hoped to be an unknown and unsettled sector of space. But has many worlds had discovered the galaxy over, where there are resources, there are those with the credits and will to extract them.

The camp was like ALL camps found anywhere in the known galaxy, hastily erected, prefabricated, and chaotic. Mining and extraction, as it turns out, happens to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the universe, and not done because it is enjoyed but due to the demand for the resources they extract. Fortunately, those unfortunate enough to drift towards mining and extraction as a career path or the unlearned, undocumented, or escaping a past they would prefer not to come to light, with temperaments conducive to the work who were well compensated for their efforts. It is those credits to burn that attracts the other trades, with workers skilled in parting those individuals off shift with their hard earned credits. Such was the way of things ... though, Bacrana was proving to be different.

Deng peered out the dust streaked plasti-glass window of his tiny office, his what had become an almost weekly call to the corporate office begging for a transfer interrupted by the large gathering outside. The medical clinic was located in the administrative building and the miners were not happy, showing up to protest to Director Dorell's continued efforts to force them to work, despite the significant disappearances. The Director had recently notified everyone that fines would be implemented to anyone refusing to work. A fine, as it turned out, equal to a weeks wage for each day missed. Needless to say the miners, who on the societal scale fell on the rougher side, were not taking the new lying down and to make matters worse, appeared to be very, very intoxicated.

Despite the early hour, Revnar was at what he had affectionately began to call 'the office', pressing the Arcona 'office administrator' once more for work as he perused the news nets for listings, only to be disturbed from his reverie by the massive and angry parade of miners and heavy equipment operators, shouting their displeasure and clearly heading towards the mining office, their heavy boots turning the dirt packed street to mud.

Aboard the skip tracer's ship, the angry, intense, shouting was just reaching M8-T's auditory sensors.

Gathering his gear from the repulsorsled, the commotion welcomed Garrick has he exited the corporate transport, shouldering his back and catching the tail-end of the mob enter the wide avenue between the orderly erected prefabricated housing. The attendants met his gaze with a shrug, uncaring or unknowing the cause.

While not exactly welcomed with open arms, he was still an off-worlder, Kitichik has been afforded a more permanent residence in the colony town some clicks away from the rowdy mining encampment. While still wary, the locals had been increasingly warming to his presence, particularly young villager named Kordath. A sudden sense of uneasiness, a cold tingling of his skin, pulled him from his meditation as the young boy barged in.

"Master Jedi. Something is wrong ..."
OOC:
AND ... Welcome! To the Beast of Bacrana.

Hopefully the scene makes sense? All of you did an excellent job of getting yourselves to Bacrana. Currently there is an angry, drunken crowd of miners approaching and gathering in front of the mining offices. There are approximately 10-20 all 'armed' with mining tools and implements. While not actively attacking the office the potential is certainly there.

Note: The medical clinic is also in the structure shared by the offices so Deng is more or less being directly affected.

If anyone wants to make a skill check please roll against a default difficulty of Average PP. I will add or subtract dice as necessarily but at least that can be a baseline. If you feel a boost is warranted go ahead and add as a separate roll and I can add or ignore if I think your logic makes sense.

For clarity, I'm hoping we can keep to a 4 post a week schedule. I will try to post within 24 hours of my last post.

Look forward to playing with you all!

"You think we're safe here?" Deng asked his receptionist, braving another peek out the window. Right now they seemed content yelling out and booing the administrator, but how long before they decided to storm the building. And how long would the doors hold out when that happened.

With a grimace he took a sip at what passed for caf out here. He still hadn't gotten used to the taste. The first thing he would do once back to Coruscant was visit one of the many caf shops for a proper blend.

He was half a mind to go tell Director to say whatever he had to, to calm the masses. But secretly he had sympathy for the miners, after all he was forced to work here against his will as well.
Feb 17, 2026 7:14 pm
Mate, or Matey, or M8 ('em-eight') - he would respond to any of them - made a habit out of monitoring what informational channels he could here. Whether simple news channels or broadcast enforcement dispatch channels (when he dared to try to slice their encryption).

So, it didn't surprise him when the angry voices of miners reached him.

But it did interest him.

He shouted out to his biological counterpart, wherever he was; "Reynar! The exploited manual labor-models are rising up again!

Someone down there must be willing to pay us for something??

Violently crushing their labor-squabble?

Violently advancing their labor-squabble?

Violently.... eh... er...

My calculations indicate their is a small chance of non-violence as well?

Reynar?

The Gand peered through the layers of plastiglas between himself and the child, seeing concern etched on his face. He paused a moment, then found his feet. He took his breath-mask from the hook near the door, and stepped into the airlock, his mandibles comfortably interlocking around the rubbery seal that kept out the corrosive oxygen.

As the thin airlock cycled, he took his robe from the hook outside, putting it over his tunic. It had been sprayed with deodorant and lined with packets of a soft powder that, according to the locals, took the edge off. The smell of ammonia, he had heard, was quite pungent and distracting.

Only once he had properly settled, emerged from his thoughts and into the present moment, did he speak to the boy, hoping he had calmed down. "Speak about this trouble."
OOC:
This Gand will emerge from meditation and Forsee his future. If you want to smooth things over, he will arrange some public transport in a walk-and-talk.

Feb 18, 2026 2:50 pm
Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

Colony Town

Calmly, his deep breaths rhythmic through the life giving mask, Kitichik opened his self to the flow of the Force, the abundance of life on the barely explored and settled planet nearly overwhelming ...

A cacophony of voices raised in anger and outrage, the underlying fear overpowering, thunder subtle at first before building to a thunderous crescendo that could be felt in the bones, as a washed out mirage of rutted and torn ground, poorly constructed structures ablaze, bodies of the fallen littered the ground, an intense feeling of displeasure, an immense shadow as it and the sounds faded.

The boy opened his mouth, the response wilting under the insectoid Jedi's intense gaze and clearly struggling with how best to deliver the news without incriminating himself in some perceived wrongdoing on the youth's part.

"The. The mining encampment," Kordath began. The Jedi was aware of the communities standing directive to the youth that the mining camp, and in particular it's vices, were to be avoided.

"The miners. They're. They're revolting."

Work Camp

The administrative droid's optical sensors flared brighter, as if the droid could experience emotions and shared Deng's concerns, servos whirring as it's head turned towards Director Dorell's office. Through the full height plasti-glass door, Deng could see the LMC administrator at his desk, seeming unconcerned with the commotion that was rising in intensity outside the flimsy and hastily erected prefabricated structure, staring at screen on his desk intently, his eyes cold and calculating as they considered whatever was being displayed. OA-IT-1002, turned back, head tilting, as if waiting and anticipating, the medical doctor's solution.

Despite being barely open, glazed over in the stupor of salt, the Arconan barkeep's expression was one of amusement as he watched the enraged procession of laborers pass, turning slightly towards Reynar and pointing to the squawking commlink vibrating across his bartop, "Shouldn't you get that?"

Perhaps finding some comfort in numbers the mass of laborers, machinists, and miners was becoming increasingly louder, vulgar, and more hostile as they simultaneously implored one of the individuals in front to step forward and speak. Through the dusty and dirt streaked window, Deng could see the being in question, the head foreman and crew boss, a practical and tough woman, who seemed at least thus far to have one of the few cooler heads in the mob.
OOC:
Please respond, and include any rolls with any actions you may propose, by early AM on Thursday EST as I would like to still get in three posts this week (I know that currently we are missing a post from Garrick and Reynar but they can include the introductory reaction and follow up reaction in their next post. I know it will take some time 'finding the characters' voices' but hopefully we can find and get into a consistent rhythm.

@GreyGriffin - hopefully inclusive yet vague enough on the Foresee success?

Knowing that his relational module and social processors were only at 37%, the droid was loath to try to negotiate any sort of contract himself.

But that also meant that whatever role he ended up playing, it would likely require his physical presence... he would need to be there in-the-alloy so to speak.

So he shouldered his riotshield and headed to the spot.
Feb 19, 2026 9:25 am
"Someone's going to get hurt if they don't calm down," Deng sighed, massaging the bridge of his nose.

He stands there a moment, looking out before he decides something has to be done. But not by him. They looked ready to rip apart the first person to leave the offices. It wasn't his job to negotiate pay.

He walks over to the office of the guy whose job it actually is, Director Dorell. He knocks on the door before entering.

"Are you going to do something about what's going on out there?" he asks. "They are going to get us or themselves hurt. And dead miners can't work last I checked."

He knew imploring to Director Dorell's better nature would fail outright, as he suspected the director just didn't have any. Instead he had to get it down to numbers. "Next supply drop is weeks away, and so is any replacement workers. How do you think a month of reduced production would look on your performance review. I'd stand a better chance to get out of here before you."

The Director looked up from his screen, the dull glow highlighting his bored eyes, as he took in the doctor as if attempting to recall what roll Deng even filled, with a bored sigh, he slowly waved his hand in a shooing motion, "And if I were to acquiesce to their demands, not only would I be stuck here but also without a job.

"Just wait. Once the booze wears off and the headaches start, they'll lose interest."

He briefly glanced outside at the mob, that still seemed to be steadily increasing in number, "Plus this beast the locals have somehow convinced the laborers is the source of their troubles is being handled."

An image appeared above the administrators desk, a live feed it seemed from the landing fields, a man that Deng would only describe as 'outdoorsy' was shouldering his gear, and perhaps unsure of the commotion in 'town' or where to go.

He eyed the child impassively. Perhaps the child knew, or simply intuited, that he had no real intention of policing his activity. It was not his jurisdiction. And besides, he did not want to lose the child's trust. Parenting was for parents, and strangers needed all of the sources of information they could muster, especially in small communities.

"This Gand will see if this is trouble," he said, noncommittally, as he swept out of the office. He glanced at the town's chronometer, then headed for the transit station, hoping he could compel some member of the motor pool to expedite transport to the site.

Colony Town

Kordath's shoulders visibly relaxed, feeling confident the alien Jedi was not going to pass along his indiscretions to the town council, his eyes widening with anticipation and excitement as the Gand agreed to observe the ruckus at the mining camp. Exiting, Kitichik was greeted by a distant roar from the direction of the work camp, not needing the Force to sense the agitation in the voices that were carried on the wind. The Gand followed Kordath's sheepish gaze towards the youth's speederbike parked conviently close to Kitichik's abode.

The bike made short work of the couple klicks distance that separated the colony from the more uncouth encampment of the mining company. Slowing, the youth expertly guided the speeder into the wide, heavily trodden avenue between the dingy prefab housing only to coast to a stop, the lumbering form of a droid, immense riot shield swaying with its gait, blocking the way.
Feb 19, 2026 11:06 pm
Thankfully, his miniscule frame did little to strain the child's speeder bike. He would have to look into getting one for himself, as he hadn't anticipated having to come all the way down to the mine. Not without invitation, of course. Things seemed to be a bit more... heated on this planet than he had anticipated.

He looked back over his shoulder, and pointed back towards the settlement. He did not insist the boy leave, but his suggestion was very clear.

With the racous settlers shouting ahead, he approached the droid, looking up at it from his disadvantaged position, stopping before the riot shield as if it were merely a reception desk.

His mask clicked, and after a hissing inhale, he said, "This Gand would speak to the aggrieved parties," as if it were a protocol droid, and not a hulking barely-restrained killing machine.

"We should be ready, just in case this spirals out of control."
Reynar looked out at the protestors, looking for any signs as to what the general protest was about. It didn't take much to spark unrest, as one of the company's main profit streams was screwing over the workers. He pulled out his blaster and checked it. It was a new piece, he payed too much for it back in Empress Teta, they sid the beam was bright enough to blind a Rancor at 10 meters, but then again if you were 10 meters from a Rancor, you were done for, even if it was blind.

Now that he thought about it he did have one card to play. "I know a guy inside the mining camp. One of the med staff, he's done some work on me when captures have gone sideways.". He fished his comlink out of his pocket. Time to contact Doctor Arden.
