The Beast of Bacrana

Feb 8, 2026 2:22 am
Then ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

The cold wind whipped across the grassland, driving snow with it. With a frustrated grunt, the figure tugged his fluttering cloak back in place and peered out towards the mountains, now hidden by the snow and low clouds, leaving him wondering why the elders chose the plains over the protection of the forests and mountains.

The 'beast' he thought with a slight roll of his eyes as he turned, "come kids or we'll be late for the story."

Stories ... legends ... of the mythical, deity-like creature who stood sentinel over the colony when it had just begun. The very weather responding with fury or calm in reaction to the beasts supposed anger or approval. With an amused grunt he shooed his children towards the great hall, welcoming the warmth contain therein if nothing else ... and he supposed, the Elder's story was pretty good as well.

He did not exactly open his eyes as he felt the ship jostling, but awareness came to them. The liner was too vast to be truly moved, its hold filled with victuals it would exchange with rich ore, its berths overloaded with fresh-eyed prospectors it would replace with weary, soot-stained ex-frontiersmen.

His eyes went from dull and gray to a pale green, as inscrutable structures behind their compound lenses rearranged themselves. They keenly scanned the common sleeping berth. His ammonia booth had been taken, and he had simply sat on the floor. Many seemed to want to land on this world. Some, apparently, so badly they could not bother to be listed on the manifest.

His gaze did not have to travel far to be met with another, an ortolan child seated across the aisle. Its beady black eyes were rapt with curiosity, taken by the stillness of its fellow traveller.

"Hello."
The child's greeting was forward. Ordinary.

He found himself compelled to respond. One arm lifted from his leg, its first finger extended slightly. It was not quite a wave, more an acknowledgement.

"Are you a Jedi?" The question was abrupt. Almost too swift. Once the formality of greeting had passed, clearly, the child had no more use for decorum.

He took his first breath of the hour, his throat rumbling, his speech amplified just slightly by the vocoder built into his mask. His voice seemed to vibrate, a hoarse croak one might associate with disuse, were it not for his mask and insectile countenance. "Yes."

"I thought so. I saw your laser sword. Mum said it was a glow rod but I knew better."

He lowered his hand to the accoutrment hanging from his belt. A netted pouch carrying a handful of sanitary items. Two spare tanks of ammonia gas. And his lightsaber. A blocky thing with greenish brasslike fittings, wrapped around with cross-hatched rubber, for easy grip with both of his small, three-fingered hands. Perhaps, given his small frame, a shoto would have been less conspicuous, but he had learned what his Master had trained him. If he wanted a weapon to be easy, to work its way up his chain of intuition, he would carry a blaster.

He did not share these thoughts with the child. The child tried to mask its disappointment with another question.

"Can I see it?"

"It is not for showing."

The child inhaled, but what words it had planned to exhale were lost in a gasp of surprise, as two turquoise hands swept around it. He turned his head to the large, female ortolan, now putting the child over her shoulder, letting it get a look at its father, a bit further past the bulkhead. She dipped slightly, as much of a curt bow as she could manage while wrangling a squirming adolescent. "A thousand apologies, master Jedi... Gand... sir." She stumbled a little over the conflicting cultural honorifics.

"This Gand is not troubled," he spoke, perhaps not-so-subtly smoothing her tangled tongue. He lifted his hand again, flexing it open in a soft gesture of absolution and contrition. A versatile somatic trick among the fragmented unGand. It had not offended anyone yet.

The woman took a moment, turning around, and giving her child a whispered scolding. The young ortolan ran to the shelter of its father. But she hesitated.

He made no move, not to wave her away, nor welcome her.

"There won't... be, any trouble, will there? Master Jedi?" Her head turned, and she gave him a worried look.

He could sense her unease. She was concerned to see one of the Jedi coming to such a world, where she had seen fit to stay with her children, at least for a time. Her use of his title had been as unsubtle as his correction.

His breath mask hissed as he took in a deeper breath to answer her, hopefully more fully. "It is the Order's hope that this Gand's presence here will ensure that there is no trouble." His mask hissed again as he inhaled. "It is a courtesy that the Order and This Gand extend to the many new colonists here, and the peoples and companies that employ them."

It was true. The Order hoped that the presence of a Jedi Knight, however freshly engraved that title was, would encourage both the burgeoning criminal element and the overbearing corporations who sought to exploit this new, novel administrative state to step a little more lightly. His real job here was to cool the temperature of this venture by merely existing. It was hoped that the expected light administrative duties would enhance his 'soft' skills, as his Master had put it. And he would have the chance to meditate and explore the mysteries of the force outside of the confines of his temple, without the guidance of his Master.

Independently.

A mandible quivered against the seal of his mask, the pressure beginning to rise again in his temples. This was a test in more ways than one.

He turned to the woman. He was not capable of smiling. He was barely capable of modulating his voice. But he sought to reassure her. To smooth over the ripples of fear.

His mask clicked twice, as he drew in two short breaths. One for himself, and one to speak again. "There will be no trouble."

The droid's optical sensors click on, and it takes a moment for the light-levels to even out.

Matey was certain that, if he could experience boredom, he would be bored. He had been powered-down for seven standard-days. The maximum amount of time that he permitted himself to be powered down, without activation and a "check-in" with his biological counterparts.

He hoped they weren't dead. That would be a suboptimal scenario....

They had been on Bacrana for many more standard-days than that, now, and still no new work had come along. (Because otherwise they surely would have activated him, wouldn't they?)

They had come to this Galactic-backwater because, well, the end point of their last job had put them close to it. And also it was supposedly a hot-bed of activity...

What activity, exactly, Matey wasn't certain.

He had scanned his holodisks for data about the planet before their arrival; terrestrial body, approximately standard gravity, Type I/breathable atmosphere, low orbital position - and so a generally tolerable climate for the range facilitated by carbon-based chassis... after That One Unfortunate Incident, he was always sure to verify these parameters now ...

And also lots of different actors pulling at lots of different strings.

He opened the engineering closet door and stepped out, cranking up his amine and sulfurous aromatic-chain sensors, because... as he understood it, dead things really smelled bad.
OOC:
Went ahead and created some realities for the bounty-crew (timeline stuff), so I apologize if those particular elements don't align with what others were imagining. But... didn't really no where else to do with this intro "scene" :)

This was a mistake. It had to be. He'd sort it out as soon as he could find a comm station. He had done well in tests, his attending doctor spoke highly of him, how could they punish him like this. Sure, they paid for his way through medical school and he'd work it off. He just hadn't expected that the company that paid his way would be bought up by a mining corporation. Of course he could refuse, but then he'd have to pay them back. He'd be in debt for decades. No better to work the system and be debt free in a fraction of the time.

He stepped out of the shuttle, the sun stinging his eyes, despite the dust in the air. It was four steps off the terminal before his expensive shoes was ruined by the muddy ground. At least he had a welcoming comittee as in front of him stood a Zabrak in oil stained coveralls.

"Welcome doc," the Zabrak smiled and held out an equally stained hand. Deng took it hesitantly.

"Thanks, but I believe there's been a mistake," Deng replied. "I will sort this out and be out of here within a week."

"Long as you do your job while you're here," the Zabrak said.

"I won't turn away anyone needing help," Deng said and followed the Zabrak into a landspeeder. He could do this he thought. Just a week or two tops and he'd get this sorted out and get back to the Core Worlds.

6 months later

"Put Mr. Javand in examination room 2, I'll be with him in a moment," Deng stuck his upper body out the door of his modest office to notify the reseptionist.

He closed the door and sat back down behind the desk. "Sorry about that," he said to local representative of the Lant Mining Corp. "Now where was we."

"You were trying to explain to me how you shouldn't be here," the corporate agent said with a smile. "But the thing is you signed a contract, and unless you can pay it down, you are stuck here. These people need a doctor."

"I signed with a local ore processing company company on Corellia, I thought the stipulation that I would have to move meant another city," Deng said with a sigh.

"And when we bought that company and all its contracts that move got a bit further than you expected,"" the corp agent replied. "But as it stands my hands are tied. The people here deserve medical attention, and you have 3 year left on the contract."

The two was interrupted by the door to the office bursting open. "Doc you need to come. Been an accident at mine 34."

Without thinking, Deng grabbed his doctors bag and was halfway out the door. "Don't think this conversation is over," Deng told the corp agent.

Rushing past the receptionist Deng suddenly remembered. "Apologize to Mr. Javand, try to reschedule."

Reynar Thonn jokingly referred to the Cantina as 'his office." It was true enough, this was were he did most of his business. Of all the wretched hives of scum and villainy out there The Mineshaft certainly was one of the wretchedest. Everybody has a side hustle, small time spice dealers, gamblers, black marketeers, a bounty hunter fit right in.

Problem was bounty pucks had been in short supply lately. It was so bad the droid had turned himself off for a week, Reynar didn't have that option, not with his current booze and spice budget anyway. He'd considered taking up an honest trade, like sabacc, but the pickings here? He was better off contacting the guild every standard week to see if they'd send him somewhere else, anywhere else.

But evidently he hadn't paid his penance yet. The Guild liked their hunters professional, it gave clients confidence. You could hire a triggerman for fifty cred, probably less, but you'd get what you paid for. "Reynar, you need to stop thinking with your blaster," the said. "If you want to get tapped for big time jobs you gotta be clean, no collateral damage. Follow the rules...". So he stayed here, as far from the big time as you could get. You couldn't even see the big time from here.

"Got anything?". He looked at the bartender. "Smugglers? Non guild miners? Anything?". The Arcona behind the bar blinked his gold eyes at Reynar, he was salted to the gills. No help there. Maybe he'd contact the guild, or see if the droid moved, the fun never stopped on Barcana.

Garrik Kade stepped off the transport and took a slow look across Bacrana’s settlement. New structures, fresh mining equipment, and too many people trying to make a living in a place that didn’t seem ready for them yet. The cold wind didn’t bother him. He’d worked harsher worlds.

The contract had been vague. Something about losses outside the perimeter and locals talking about a beast. That was enough to get his attention. Frontier colonies rarely asked for help unless things were already going wrong.

He adjusted the rifle on his shoulder and started toward the main hall, moving with the steady patience of someone used to watching before acting. He wasn’t here to make friends.

Just to see what kind of trouble Bacrana was hiding.

Then ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

Stumbling, Kordath caught his self and paused to catch his breath, a trembling hand coming up to wipe his brow, still reeling from what he had encountered, knowing the trouble he would be in for ignoring the Council's, and Elders, wishes about going into the mountains. The stories though had always intrigued him, not only when he was very young but even still ... not that he was old enough to be considered anything other than a youth. Gathering his self with a calming breath, hands now less shaky as he sipped from his canteen, the fear he had felt was quickly being replaced with awe, the uneasiness with excitement, his thoughts now wrestling with whether or not to share what he had seen and risk getting in trouble or keep it secret. Turning, Kordath peered back over his shoulder, taking in the thick forest behind, straining to see if he might catch a second glimpse. His fear over punishment for ignoring the town's rules regarding the mountains quickly being replaced with an eagerness to explore the towering peaks that dominated the skyline of his home, to prove that the legends were true.

A flash of light, sunlight glinting off something metal, pulled his attention above the mountainous summit, a dark speck against the deep blue sky, seemingly growing in size. Kordath's eyes narrowed, limiting the blinding glare from the snow capped heights, wondering if he was seeing a mirage. The speck was joined by more, a low rumble carried on the wind, whatever concerns he might have had for disobeying the town's statutes fading, as he took off at a run.

Their community was small. Bacrana, being in a relatively unexplored sector, was well of the traveled hyperspace routes. But, every naughty child had been cooed by tales of pirates abducting troublesome children who didn't listen to their elders. While he was old enough to know that was untrue, the threat of pirates attacking was still true. Racing into town Kordath was joined by his friends Kobbie and Cunha, who were also excitedly running towards the town square.

"Have you heard?"

"Visitors. From Offworld."

"Some kind of company.

"Do you think they'll bring more people? Maybe some girls?"

"We have girls!

Kordeth remained silent, letting his friends speak as he contemplated his earlier encounter, the elders' stories pushing to the forefront of his mind. How much of the stories were myth, how much were true, and what would the presence of an off-world corporation change.

Again, not trying to step on anyone's toes. Just didn't know what else to do with this scene. So trying to put us in a place where we get to interact.

Kier if there's something else you wanted to do, you can always "flashback"-in something you did between the cantina and the ship. Or go somewhere/do something else ofc after.

Also... I really don't have a "voice" in mind for this PC yet, so going to try some different things.

Apologies if he seems to change personalities or "voice" as we go along...
Matey is stooped over a holo-screen when Reynar walks into the starship common area. The droid straightens, servos whirring, as his head rotates independent of the rest of his body.

"Oh! Reynar!?

I was just scanning the local medical records to see if you'd perished!

So glad to see it is not so! ...

If I experienced emotions such as gladness...
", the droid muttered to itself.

"You know what I mean."

The droids voice sounded like those of the Trade Federation's B-2 battle droids. It was the only available vocal module that was compatible with the droid's chassis, when he was rebuilt.

Just as an archival droid-brain was the only processing module available and compatible...

Those two elements paired with the powerful and lethal combat configuration of his IG "Magnaguard" model frame (and in-built combat programming) made for a sometimes disjointed... "experience" of this droid.

Now ...

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

The mining encampment had grown significantly in the few short months since the corporate scouts had first landed their ships and declared their intentions to mine the mountains that dominated the skyline. Respectfully, perhaps knowing the rough and tumble beings mining and extraction attracted, the camp had been erected some distance from the small established settlement, a small colony, whose generations had enjoyed a somewhat peaceful existence on the frontier, well away from the hustle and bustle of the core, and in what they had hoped to be an unknown and unsettled sector of space. But has many worlds had discovered the galaxy over, where there are resources, there are those with the credits and will to extract them.

The camp was like ALL camps found anywhere in the known galaxy, hastily erected, prefabricated, and chaotic. Mining and extraction, as it turns out, happens to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the universe, and not done because it is enjoyed but due to the demand for the resources they extract. Fortunately, those unfortunate enough to drift towards mining and extraction as a career path or the unlearned, undocumented, or escaping a past they would prefer not to come to light, with temperaments conducive to the work who were well compensated for their efforts. It is those credits to burn that attracts the other trades, with workers skilled in parting those individuals off shift with their hard earned credits. Such was the way of things ... though, Bacrana was proving to be different.

Deng peered out the dust streaked plasti-glass window of his tiny office, his what had become an almost weekly call to the corporate office begging for a transfer interrupted by the large gathering outside. The medical clinic was located in the administrative building and the miners were not happy, showing up to protest to Director Dorell's continued efforts to force them to work, despite the significant disappearances. The Director had recently notified everyone that fines would be implemented to anyone refusing to work. A fine, as it turned out, equal to a weeks wage for each day missed. Needless to say the miners, who on the societal scale fell on the rougher side, were not taking the new lying down and to make matters worse, appeared to be very, very intoxicated.

Despite the early hour, Revnar was at what he had affectionately began to call 'the office', pressing the Arcona 'office administrator' once more for work as he perused the news nets for listings, only to be disturbed from his reverie by the massive and angry parade of miners and heavy equipment operators, shouting their displeasure and clearly heading towards the mining office, their heavy boots turning the dirt packed street to mud.

Aboard the skip tracer's ship, the angry, intense, shouting was just reaching M8-T's auditory sensors.

Gathering his gear from the repulsorsled, the commotion welcomed Garrick has he exited the corporate transport, shouldering his back and catching the tail-end of the mob enter the wide avenue between the orderly erected prefabricated housing. The attendants met his gaze with a shrug, uncaring or unknowing the cause.

While not exactly welcomed with open arms, he was still an off-worlder, Kitichik has been afforded a more permanent residence in the colony town some clicks away from the rowdy mining encampment. While still wary, the locals had been increasingly warming to his presence, particularly young villager named Kordath. A sudden sense of uneasiness, a cold tingling of his skin, pulled him from his meditation as the young boy barged in.

"Master Jedi. Something is wrong ..."
OOC:
AND ... Welcome! To the Beast of Bacrana.

Hopefully the scene makes sense? All of you did an excellent job of getting yourselves to Bacrana. Currently there is an angry, drunken crowd of miners approaching and gathering in front of the mining offices. There are approximately 10-20 all 'armed' with mining tools and implements. While not actively attacking the office the potential is certainly there.

Note: The medical clinic is also in the structure shared by the offices so Deng is more or less being directly affected.

If anyone wants to make a skill check please roll against a default difficulty of Average PP. I will add or subtract dice as necessarily but at least that can be a baseline. If you feel a boost is warranted go ahead and add as a separate roll and I can add or ignore if I think your logic makes sense.

For clarity, I'm hoping we can keep to a 4 post a week schedule. I will try to post within 24 hours of my last post.

Look forward to playing with you all!

"You think we're safe here?" Deng asked his receptionist, braving another peek out the window. Right now they seemed content yelling out and booing the administrator, but how long before they decided to storm the building. And how long would the doors hold out when that happened.

With a grimace he took a sip at what passed for caf out here. He still hadn't gotten used to the taste. The first thing he would do once back to Coruscant was visit one of the many caf shops for a proper blend.

He was half a mind to go tell Director to say whatever he had to, to calm the masses. But secretly he had sympathy for the miners, after all he was forced to work here against his will as well.
Feb 17, 2026 7:14 pm
Mate, or Matey, or M8 ('em-eight') - he would respond to any of them - made a habit out of monitoring what informational channels he could here. Whether simple news channels or broadcast enforcement dispatch channels (when he dared to try to slice their encryption).

So, it didn't surprise him when the angry voices of miners reached him.

But it did interest him.

He shouted out to his biological counterpart, wherever he was; "Reynar! The exploited manual labor-models are rising up again!

Someone down there must be willing to pay us for something??

Violently crushing their labor-squabble?

Violently advancing their labor-squabble?

Violently.... eh... er...

My calculations indicate their is a small chance of non-violence as well?

Reynar?

The Gand peered through the layers of plastiglas between himself and the child, seeing concern etched on his face. He paused a moment, then found his feet. He took his breath-mask from the hook near the door, and stepped into the airlock, his mandibles comfortably interlocking around the rubbery seal that kept out the corrosive oxygen.

As the thin airlock cycled, he took his robe from the hook outside, putting it over his tunic. It had been sprayed with deodorant and lined with packets of a soft powder that, according to the locals, took the edge off. The smell of ammonia, he had heard, was quite pungent and distracting.

Only once he had properly settled, emerged from his thoughts and into the present moment, did he speak to the boy, hoping he had calmed down. "Speak about this trouble."
OOC:
This Gand will emerge from meditation and Forsee his future. If you want to smooth things over, he will arrange some public transport in a walk-and-talk.

2 White Force Points, 1 Black Force Point

Feb 18, 2026 2:50 pm
Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

Colony Town

Calmly, his deep breaths rhythmic through the life giving mask, Kitichik opened his self to the flow of the Force, the abundance of life on the barely explored and settled planet nearly overwhelming ...

A cacophony of voices raised in anger and outrage, the underlying fear overpowering, thunder subtle at first before building to a thunderous crescendo that could be felt in the bones, as a washed out mirage of rutted and torn ground, poorly constructed structures ablaze, bodies of the fallen littered the ground, an intense feeling of displeasure, an immense shadow as it and the sounds faded.

The boy opened his mouth, the response wilting under the insectoid Jedi's intense gaze and clearly struggling with how best to deliver the news without incriminating himself in some perceived wrongdoing on the youth's part.

"The. The mining encampment," Kordath began. The Jedi was aware of the communities standing directive to the youth that the mining camp, and in particular it's vices, were to be avoided.

"The miners. They're. They're revolting."

Work Camp

The administrative droid's optical sensors flared brighter, as if the droid could experience emotions and shared Deng's concerns, servos whirring as it's head turned towards Director Dorell's office. Through the full height plasti-glass door, Deng could see the LMC administrator at his desk, seeming unconcerned with the commotion that was rising in intensity outside the flimsy and hastily erected prefabricated structure, staring at screen on his desk intently, his eyes cold and calculating as they considered whatever was being displayed. OA-IT-1002, turned back, head tilting, as if waiting and anticipating, the medical doctor's solution.

Despite being barely open, glazed over in the stupor of salt, the Arconan barkeep's expression was one of amusement as he watched the enraged procession of laborers pass, turning slightly towards Reynar and pointing to the squawking commlink vibrating across his bartop, "Shouldn't you get that?"

Perhaps finding some comfort in numbers the mass of laborers, machinists, and miners was becoming increasingly louder, vulgar, and more hostile as they simultaneously implored one of the individuals in front to step forward and speak. Through the dusty and dirt streaked window, Deng could see the being in question, the head foreman and crew boss, a practical and tough woman, who seemed at least thus far to have one of the few cooler heads in the mob.
OOC:
Please respond, and include any rolls with any actions you may propose, by early AM on Thursday EST as I would like to still get in three posts this week (I know that currently we are missing a post from Garrick and Reynar but they can include the introductory reaction and follow up reaction in their next post. I know it will take some time 'finding the characters' voices' but hopefully we can find and get into a consistent rhythm.

@GreyGriffin - hopefully inclusive yet vague enough on the Foresee success?

Knowing that his relational module and social processors were only at 37%, the droid was loath to try to negotiate any sort of contract himself.

But that also meant that whatever role he ended up playing, it would likely require his physical presence... he would need to be there in-the-alloy so to speak.

So he shouldered his riotshield and headed to the spot.
Feb 19, 2026 9:25 am
"Someone's going to get hurt if they don't calm down," Deng sighed, massaging the bridge of his nose.

He stands there a moment, looking out before he decides something has to be done. But not by him. They looked ready to rip apart the first person to leave the offices. It wasn't his job to negotiate pay.

He walks over to the office of the guy whose job it actually is, Director Dorell. He knocks on the door before entering.

"Are you going to do something about what's going on out there?" he asks. "They are going to get us or themselves hurt. And dead miners can't work last I checked."

He knew imploring to Director Dorell's better nature would fail outright, as he suspected the director just didn't have any. Instead he had to get it down to numbers. "Next supply drop is weeks away, and so is any replacement workers. How do you think a month of reduced production would look on your performance review. I'd stand a better chance to get out of here before you."

The Director looked up from his screen, the dull glow highlighting his bored eyes, as he took in the doctor as if attempting to recall what roll Deng even filled, with a bored sigh, he slowly waved his hand in a shooing motion, "And if I were to acquiesce to their demands, not only would I be stuck here but also without a job.

"Just wait. Once the booze wears off and the headaches start, they'll lose interest."

He briefly glanced outside at the mob, that still seemed to be steadily increasing in number, "Plus this beast the locals have somehow convinced the laborers is the source of their troubles is being handled."

An image appeared above the administrators desk, a live feed it seemed from the landing fields, a man that Deng would only describe as 'outdoorsy' was shouldering his gear, and perhaps unsure of the commotion in 'town' or where to go.

He eyed the child impassively. Perhaps the child knew, or simply intuited, that he had no real intention of policing his activity. It was not his jurisdiction. And besides, he did not want to lose the child's trust. Parenting was for parents, and strangers needed all of the sources of information they could muster, especially in small communities.

"This Gand will see if this is trouble," he said, noncommittally, as he swept out of the office. He glanced at the town's chronometer, then headed for the transit station, hoping he could compel some member of the motor pool to expedite transport to the site.

Colony Town

Kordath's shoulders visibly relaxed, feeling confident the alien Jedi was not going to pass along his indiscretions to the town council, his eyes widening with anticipation and excitement as the Gand agreed to observe the ruckus at the mining camp. Exiting, Kitichik was greeted by a distant roar from the direction of the work camp, not needing the Force to sense the agitation in the voices that were carried on the wind. The Gand followed Kordath's sheepish gaze towards the youth's speederbike parked conviently close to Kitichik's abode.

The bike made short work of the couple klicks distance that separated the colony from the more uncouth encampment of the mining company. Slowing, the youth expertly guided the speeder into the wide, heavily trodden avenue between the dingy prefab housing only to coast to a stop, the lumbering form of a droid, immense riot shield swaying with its gait, blocking the way.
Feb 19, 2026 11:06 pm
Thankfully, his miniscule frame did little to strain the child's speeder bike. He would have to look into getting one for himself, as he hadn't anticipated having to come all the way down to the mine. Not without invitation, of course. Things seemed to be a bit more... heated on this planet than he had anticipated.

He looked back over his shoulder, and pointed back towards the settlement. He did not insist the boy leave, but his suggestion was very clear.

With the racous settlers shouting ahead, he approached the droid, looking up at it from his disadvantaged position, stopping before the riot shield as if it were merely a reception desk.

His mask clicked, and after a hissing inhale, he said, "This Gand would speak to the aggrieved parties," as if it were a protocol droid, and not a hulking barely-restrained killing machine.

"We should be ready, just in case this spirals out of control."
Reynar looked out at the protestors, looking for any signs as to what the general protest was about. It didn't take much to spark unrest, as one of the company's main profit streams was screwing over the workers. He pulled out his blaster and checked it. It was a new piece, he payed too much for it back in Empress Teta, they sid the beam was bright enough to blind a Rancor at 10 meters, but then again if you were 10 meters from a Rancor, you were done for, even if it was blind.

Now that he thought about it he did have one card to play. "I know a guy inside the mining camp. One of the med staff, he's done some work on me when captures have gone sideways.". He fished his comlink out of his pocket. Time to contact Doctor Arden.

Deng is about to give the director a reply when he hear the chirping of his comlink. "Let's put a pin in this," he says with a sigh, and retreats back to his own office.

"Doctor Ardan," he answers the call distractedly. He's paying more attention out the window, in case the mob should turn violent.

"Doc it's Reynar Thonn, I've got visual on a bunch of angry miners headed your way. Do you require extraction?" Reynar doubted they were after the doctor specifically, but some of 'em might not be too particular once the mayhem starts. And considering usual strikebreaking tactics were a baton to protester's skull, he be willing to bet on mayhem.

"Please say yes M8 looks bored."

"Anywhere else sounds like a good idea right now," Deng replies, once again peeking out the window. "But afraid seeing anyone coming or going would alight the powder keg."

Bacrana, Bacrana System, Expansion Region

Work Camp

Stopping in front of the hulking droid the diminutive, comparably, Gand expressed his wishes to speak to the discontented factions. Before the impressively armed machine could issue a response, a weathered Twi'lek approached, checking the charge on his blaster and clearly an associate of the droid. Without any sort of greeting other than an offer to reach out to a contact he had in the medical clinic, the gunslinger pulled out his comlink. The reply, nearly drowned out by the roar of the crowd, while seemingly appreciative of the offer of extraction thought the act might touch off the crowd.

A crowd that had finally convinced their crew boss to speak on their behalf. Elira Voss was a practical, tough leader that was respected not only by those under her supervision but with management as well AND currently the least intoxicated of the crowd. Mounting the rickety stairs, she bid the crowd to quiet down, managing to bring the volume to a dull murmur, as she addressed the unruly mob, thanking them for their participation in the demonstration, as she began to paraphrase the local myth of some great and powerful figure, wondering aloud of they might have disturbed something ancient and powerful ... the sense of unease, the cold tingling of Kitichick's skin, seeming to grow in intensity.
OOC:
So as it stands now I have Kitichick, Reynar and M8-T a few meters away from the mob surrounding the building that Deng is currently in. Garrick, who hopefully we will hear from, is at the landing fields.

I don't want to railroad but I also don't want things to stall. So currently it sounds like Kitichick is proposing speaking to both the corporation and the miners?

While Reynar and Matey are ready to crack some heads?

Perhaps some actions / rolls forthcoming?

There is also the feeling of unease and discomfort 'This Gand' is feeling ...
Feb 23, 2026 5:37 pm
OOC:
Matey has no intent to crack heads unless someone pays him to do it.

He's just here to look for whatever opportunity might present itself.
Matey turns to see who is talking to him, seeing Kitichik and the child on the little speeder he says, "Greetings, small insectoid-biological.

I am sorry to inform you, but no one has aggreived... this droid... yet. And I cannot direct you to those who have aside from...
"

He is about to gesture to the general crowd but then Elira takes a place of prominence and looks poised to speak.

"Oh! Perhaps her?"

...

He clicks on his comm and his tin-can voice buzzes, "Reynar, are you down here?? I think something is about to happen...

Here are my coordinates...
", he gives his coordinates.
Feb 23, 2026 8:57 pm
"That will do." His mask hissed as he stepped past the guard droid, only to pause. Consciously recalling his protocol training, he turned. "Thank... ....thanks." he stumbled a bit. However immerse he was in Basic, he had never quite mastered the simple formal pleasantries, nor the informal modes of address.

He nodded at the droid, as if formally acknowledging the end of the interaction, and moved towards the woman he indicated. She seemed to hold some sway over the crowd. He approached her, passing through the crowd with the effortlessness of the very small. His hands folded in front of him as he listened, his eyes unfocusing for a moment as he felt a tremor, a confluence of her words and the Force. On this he would have to meditate. Though he found it strange to be telling such a story at the head of a protest. Was there a safety concern?

He emerged from the front of the crowd, standing out from them by his stillness, and his cleaned and pressed pale indigo diplomat's robe serve as introduction without interruption. He could wait until she was finished.
Feb 24, 2026 1:18 pm
The droid, as indifferent as one would expect a machine to be, bluntly stated that he had no involvement in the current protest and helpfully directed Kitichik to the woman mounting the stair. The Jedi, whose command of Basic was exemplary, mildly struggled with decorum, not that a droid would be one to notice.

Murmurs of 'Jedi' circulated through the crowd, irritability momentarily replaced by awe and fear as they parted for the diminutive Gand, allowing Kitichik to approach the makeshift dais. The woman, momentarily loosing her train of thought paused, her eyes flicking towards the alien that had calmly emerged from the crowd, to quickly regain her composure, voice rising in volume as she listed the corporations grievances, the mob voicing their agreement and displeasure at the policies. Elira demeanor remained confident, however she spared the occassional glance at the Jedi, curiosity and apprehension evident, worry no doubt as to Kitichik's intentions.
Feb 24, 2026 4:43 pm
Kitichik listened carefully to the speech, not speaking, remaining still. In his mind, he stripped away the rhetoric, the emotion. He mentally tallied two columns, grievances and remedies. Concrete actions that these people demanded. Once she seemed to circle back around, to repeat or layer onto her demands, to keep the crowd's energy, he made his move, simply walking towards the front door of the administrative office.

He glanced towards the window, where someone was watching, his head turning slightly, pointing at the door...
Feb 25, 2026 3:31 am
"Reynar stepped up beside MT-8. "What's with the bug?" His eyes scanned the crowd, looking for trouble, or people who were likely to start trouble. His main concern was the doctor's safety.

"The corp will want this solved fast. Work stoppages are bd for the bottom line, shareholders don't like that."
Feb 25, 2026 3:04 pm
"It's happening," Deng sighs, mostly to himself more than the receptionist droid as he sees the first person in the crowd walking toward the building. At least it only seemed like one guy for the moment.

The man pointed at the door, did he want in? Was he in need of medical aid? He stares for a moment, realizes that he don't looks as angry as the rest of the crowd before hurrying over to the door and opening it quickly. He waves the stranger inside, motioning him to be quick.
Feb 25, 2026 4:31 pm
Matey motions to Kitchik as the Jedi walks away, and addresses Reynar, "I believe the insectoid is also trying to exploit the situation for credits.

Should we stop it? Follow it? Bargain with it?
"

"It's a Gand, not an insectoid. Well it is an insectoid, but.aargh! Just follow the Gand. See what his angle is." The promise of any paying action was too good to resist at this point. Credits had been in short supply lately.

He stayed back, trying to stay near the med bay, partially to protect the doctor, but mostly so they didn't have to drag him as far if the crowd turned ugly At this point he was working for the doctor's gratitude, which wasn't ideal. Or even worse, for free. He looked at one of the nearby miners, a shorter Corellian man. "So what's all this about a monster?"
Feb 27, 2026 6:26 am
The director, still poring over whatever reports were on his screen and still uninterested in what may or may not have been happening outside his shoddy, prefabricated office pod, turned his head as he caught sight of Deng quickly pacing towards the door. Dorell's bored expression quickly turned to surprise, then panic, his protestations on the tip of his tongue as the doctor opened the door, beckoning the Jedi in with a hurried wave of his hand.

The crowd, while clearly still irritated, seemed cowed enough by the presence of a Jedi to at least stand in place. Despite the slight cooling of the mob, Kitichik could not shake his feelings of discomfort.

At the periphery, Reynar and M8-T began to take stock of the situation, content for the moment to hang back. The Corellian, well into his cups, eagerly retold the story the foreman had so eloquently delivered just moments before, swearing that while he had not personally seen a monster he knew someone, who knew someone, who knew someone. The disappearances however were occurring, so someone or something was harassing the miners.
Feb 27, 2026 9:41 pm
Kitichik entered the building, letting the door close behind him. He saw the director rush into the room, and gave him a curt nod of greeting. There were words to be had, but they could wait. He turned to the doctor. He had a passing familiarity, knowing who was responsible for the well-being of the miners here, just from local talk. He offered him a nod as well.

"No one is hurt, so far?" Kitichik spoke directly to Deng. "The miners have expressed some safety concerns."
Feb 28, 2026 5:51 am
Reynar intended to get more information, but after speaking to the Corellian he figured that he'd just hear the same story over and over again. With that he hurried into the medical bay after the Jedi. At least he hoped the Gand was a Jedi. The Gand had a lightsaber, but Reynar had heard that the other guys had lightsabers too. He really didn't want to fight a Jedi, or worse, a Sith, but the Doc was an information source, and a good guy, you know, for a human.

"There better be a payday on the other end of this..."
Mar 2, 2026 8:06 am
Deng lets out a sigh of relief as Deng closes the door behind him. He lets out a short yelp of surprise when the door opens again and Reynar enters. He quickly hurries over and closes the door again and locks it.

"We all have concern," Deng says. "I'm a mere doctor not a corporate negotiatior."
Mar 2, 2026 9:20 am
"This Gand is interested in the conditions of the miners, not the company's position on the condition of the miners. This is why this Gand has chosen to ask the doctor, and not the director." He motioned to the besuited man gesticulating wildly at the door. "What is the doctor's impression? Is there merit to these rumors of abductions?"

Matey's processors buzz and click, as he receives Reynar's request to follow the gand.

He looks up to the woman speaking and then the crowd and then the gand, and then starts plodding along following the rag-tag, disparate contingent into the building.

When he gets there. just a couple steps behind his comrade, he bumps into the door - finding it freshly locked - making a metallic *clank!*, accompanying that with a mild exclamation of "Oh!?"

His processors buzz and whirr again, as he turns in place, slowly and dignified, standing before the door to face outward toward the crowd, muttering.

"... I really didn't want to go in there anyway..."

The murmurs of the crowd quieted to a dull buzz, the tension and expectation hanging in the air as the strange group, a Gand Jedi at the head, calmly and politely pushed their way through to the front and entered the dingy office. Drunken gazes silently shifted to Elira, who moments before had delivered their grievances, and remained standing, hesitant and unsure of what these newcomers pertained. Eyes widening, with a small squeal, she pushed her way through the door just before the camp doctor pushed it shut, locking it with an audible click.

The Director, who had been rising from his chair, the horror of his suddenly crowded office clearly etched on his face slowly returned to his seat, sinking low as if to hide behind his monitors at the sudden scrutiny as the Jedi motioned in his direction. Silently observing the proceedings with an air of worry and apprehension, clearly dismissed from participating in the discussion, at least at this early juncture.

Despite seeming to have a firm handle on the situation, choosing to engage with the more amicable camp doctor, Kitichik would not shake the uneasiness and discomfort he felt, the sensation mounting in intensity even as the situation seemed to be de-escalating.
OOC:
Good dialogue. I was hesitant to interrupt but didn't want everyone to think I had forgotten about you all.

@Furmyr - Deng would absolutely know that there indeed have been miners coming up missing.
Mar 3, 2026 10:40 am
Deng is about to answer the Gand when he hears the door thud. He flinches in fear, thinking this is the crowd, but realizes when the attempt to open don't persist that it's just someone else trying to enter. "Expecting anyone?" he asks no one in particular, before remembering the Gand's question.

"Some miners have gone missing, though I think the official explanation is dereliction of duty," Deng replies looking over at the administrator. "Though, can't imagine where they would have run off to. Nowhere to run as far as I know. Everyone have to work harder to make up for the missing people, which leads to error and more work for me."

He realizes his explanation could come off wrong and quickly adds. "Not that I mind the work, that's what I'm here for. But wish that work didn't come with quite that many damaged limbs."
Mar 4, 2026 12:15 am
Reynar opened the door again for Matey. He didn't want the droid to feel left out, or even worse, decide to do a little freelance strike breaking. "We're getting the real story now, you'd better get in here."

"Please pardon my associate."
Mar 5, 2026 9:11 pm
He nodded thoughtfully, one hand running along the edge of his breath mask. It clicked, hissing as he took a breath, stepping aside as the two mercenaries seemed to shoulder their way inside. The miners' concerns were legitimate - not that he had doubted them, what with the current of discontent and fear rippling out of them, but they were observed, acknowledged. This was important to know.

He paused, then looked up to the doctor. "The statement is appreciated."

He turned to the director, walking into the office as if invited. His hands folded in front of him, as his mask hissed once more. "The residents of this camp have expressed concerns about the conditions of the working environment, and have a list of grievances and remediations that the residents would like to see addressed." His tank hissed, as he gave the director a moment to collect himself. "What shall This Gand tell the citizens is the director's statement on these matters? When can these citizens expect redress of these conditions?"

He carefully kept his matter-of-fact tone, implying that silence was not an option - he would be communicating something to the miners outside, whatever that might mean for the conditions inside shortly thereafter...

Matey's head rotates a little bit prior to his body, and he turns around as Reynar opens the door. If it's in a droid's nature to feign emotion, you think this droid is feigning surprise...

"Ah! Reynar! Am I needed inside!?"

He walks past the Skip Tracer without waiting for an answer.
Mar 9, 2026 1:15 am
Kitichik, professionally ignored the droid's entrance, as he listened to the doctor's professional assessment of the situation and confirmed the miner's grievances were founded. With that information in hand he turned and entered the director's office, his response direct and to the point as he bluntly asked how the operations manager would be addressing his employees concerns in a tone that an answer would be forthcoming.

Before the Director could respond, the Gand Jedi was overcome by a sudden chill, the discomfort and unease he had been sensing nearly overwhelming, a subtle vibration felt in his feet that the droid, whose sensors were probably more in tune with such things, confirming what was more than a disturbance in the Force.

Matey, accepting the invitation to join the impromptu meeting within the administration office, stalked through the door just as the Gand was confronting the operations manager. Before he could take stock of what had transpired before his arrival the sensors and servomotors in his lower appendages began to pick up the beginnings of some subtle seismic activity.

Mar 11, 2026 4:59 pm
Matey's stabilizers click and whir as the ground rumbles and he adjusts his stance. Internally he checks the fuel level on his jetpack, externally he processes out loud, unburdened by biological inhibitors that create feelings of awkwardness...

"Director, it seems you are in need of help. Either in redressing the demands of your laborers, or in suppressing the demands of your laborers.

If you would like to requisition such help...

We are helpers!
"

The droid gestures mechanically-performative and broadly across those gathered in the room.

"All you need to do is tell us the nature of the help you require - and provide proper remuneration.

But I urge you to make a decision soon before the revolt of either the earth or the laborers escalates.
"
Mar 11, 2026 8:08 pm
Reynar's hand shot out, he grabbed at the directors desk as the ground rumbled. "What in the Force was that?"He looked noticeably relieved after the tremor died down. Was this related to the problem? He knew an earthquake could be disastrous to a mine. The one they just felt was no big deal, but anything bigger could be catastrophic.

He looked out a window to see what was going on outside.
Mar 12, 2026 9:04 am
Deng stands by letting the newcomers discuss with the director. It was nice having someone else voice the same concerns he had, without his complaints ending up in his employee file.

When he feels the ground rumble he quickly dart wordlessly into his office to find his doctor's bag. He had been here long enough that it probably meant a cave in. Luckily most of the workers seemed to be in the square demonstrating, so maybe any damage would be minimal, but could still be lives in danger and need of aid.
Mar 12, 2026 9:30 pm
The intrusion of the mercenaries was not entirely unwelcome. Perhaps these people could serve some useful purpose in defusing the tensions. They didn't seem the sort to batter protestors, but some visible security could prevent an outbreak of real violence. And if the source of the issue was in fact some kind of creature, or a person using a creature's legend as cover for some purpose, perhaps (if he did not miss his guess), a bounty hunter of some stripe might be the solution to the problem.

The Force, sometimes, provides.

He reached out and touched the wall a few moments before the tremor struck. His thoughts turned to the laborers outside, as he watched the doctor rush to the ready. He committed himself to follow the doctor out, to render aid if needed. The doctor would know the way, but he otherwise remained still, his gaze still on the director, not betraying his intent to leave.

"Well?"
OOC:
This Gand is attempting to get the Director to put out some kind of statement before things go to heck, to give both sides of the issue a starting position to negotiate from. But if Deng starts moving towards the mind, this Gand will follow in order to help in rendering aid.

The Director was the last to react to the slight tremor, noticing the responses of the others in the room before the vibration, that started as a barely noticeable tremor, that was increasingly building in intensity. The first thoughts of everyone was a mining accident, a collapse of some kind, though only the Director Dorell, and Deng once he calmed and rationally thought through the situation, would know that the mines were to far away for any sort of accident to be felt in the work camp.

Nervously, concern evident on the Director's suddenly weary appearing face, Marnis eyes darted around the room, painfully aware of the increasing vibrations felt and the Jedi's scrutinous gaze before reluctantly meeting the Gand's eyes. It was clear that there was little he could do, that the miners must continue to work or others that were willing to would be found. Resignation, a dejected stoop of the shoulders, a hesitant and shaky exhalation of breath, indicated that while progress must continue that concessions might be had. Any further discussion however would have to wait as what had started as a subtle vibration was now a steady and intense tremor.

Outside, the gathered mob, who remained in anticipation of what might come of their spokesman's meeting with the Jedi and administration, now finally seemed to notice the growing tremor, all turning as one towards the camp's outskirts, pointing in confusion and dismay, the vibrations now heard as well as felt, sounding like sustained thunder.
OOC:
A bit of a slow week ... understandable as I know RL can sneak up on us. I am posting today (Friday) and I know I said no weekend posting, and still maintain that is not a requirement. However if you are able and can post by Sunday that would be awesome. I can then respond and we can hopefully get back into a consistent rate next week (aiming for 3+ posts).

@GreyGriffin - The net result was 1 Failure but with 2 Advantage with the Negotiation attempt. I am saying that for now there is no immediate response to supply the workforce but that clearly there would be room for concessions. Currently the Director is clearly distracted and more concerned with the unfolding mystery of the tremors.

@Furmyr - Deng would know that the tremors would not be from a mine collapse or something of that nature as the mining camp is not close to the mines. The mines are in the mountains, the work camp in the plains. Good first reaction none the less!

@EVERYONE - I liked the in character reactions! By now you would know that the tremors do not indicate a mine collapse or earthwake as they are sustaining and growing in intensity. More like something approaching and less natural disaster.

"Too far away," Deng mutters as he is packing his doctor's bag. "The mines. They are too far away."

He moves to the window to look outside as if to confirm it to himself, not that he can see the mines from here. "There is no way we'd feel it here. Not unless the whole mountain came down."

"This is something else," Deng tells everyone. "Could still be dangerous though."
Mar 16, 2026 3:55 pm
Matey's processors kick into over-time. Something's approaching.

The most likely scenario seemed to be if the Director called in some large number of ground vehicles - tanks!? - to suppress the revolt, or perhaps flighted vessels.

The rumble could then be ascribed to either the large numbers or large engines of those vehicles.

Observing the Director though revealed he was as in-the-dark on the source as they all were...

And if it wasn't an earthquake or wasn't a collapse??

That left precious few other options...

The droid - not knowing the social norms of the situation, but aware that some high level biologicals required physical deference - bows a couple times as he backs away toward the door, "Excuse me, everyone. I just require...", he kind of broadly gestures outside, "... There's something I wish to, eh...", he opens the door, "I need some fresh air!"

That was something the biologicals could identify with wasn't it!?

And he steps outside, looking to the sky, both trying to make sure there's nothing imminently crashing down on them from the atmosphere, and also to see if he could use his jetpack to gain some elevation here, and perhaps see what's approaching.

More familiar with the day-to-day workings of the work camp and mining operations, and having been stationed planetside for many, many months, Deng confirmed that the quake was not caused by any sort of mining mishap.

Awkwardly struggling with his social graces, M8-T excused his self from the cramped office trailer. Looking to the horizon he did not identify any airborne threats. The massive cloud of dust rising in the air, the high pitched whine carried on the wind, could indicate some sort of approaching ground craft and certainly a cheap ...er, way of ridding the corporation of bothersome workers who, currently, refused to work.
OOC:
@emsquared - I appreciate the initiative! I however removed the setback. Instead my thoughts would be that any sort of elevation would be awarded with a boost and not the lack of it penalized. So the net result was 2 Threat for what that is worth.
Mar 17, 2026 8:17 pm
The Jedi looked levelly at the director.

"Your statement is awaited."

He glanced at the doctor, who, after his immediate panic, seemed to be reconsidering the possible source of the tremor. But he knew who might be attuned to the movement of the earth.

Disengaging the door lock again, he stepped outside, looking over the crowd of miners and other locals gathered. He approached the ringleader, the woman identified as Elira Voss.

He did not bother with introductions. "Human Voss, is there a guess among the miners as to the source of the tremor some seconds ago? Is the encampment stable?"

If the droid that had blasted off didn't get a good view, perhaps they would have something to say...
Mar 19, 2026 1:56 am
Marnis Dorell who, like the doctor, was quickly tiring of the backwoods nature of his assignment wilted under the Gand Jedi's scrutiny, his mouth moving noiselessly and clearly nervous of the rumble that seemed to be fast approaching. Perhaps losing a bit of patience, Kitichik followed the departing droid, the mine foreman and mob spokesman in tow.

The woman's weathered face widened in surprise at being addressed, her eyes betraying her fears that she had no guess at the source of the sustained quake and desperation at wishing she had some sort of desperation. He eyes shifted to the approaching cloud of dust, the gathered mob nervously pointing and starting to disperse. A droning buzz could faintly be made out, drifting ahead of the dusty haze.
OOC:
@everyone - LOL ... due to seemingly a descriptive failure on my part I wanted to clarify. The tremors / vibrations / quake / etc. is sustaining or constant and growing in intensity as the cloud / haze approaches.

@GreyGriffin - small discrepancy and not nitpicking or calling you out or anything of that sort. Just wanted to make sure it was understood not only by you but all that Matey has NOT used his jetpack ... Not yet anyway.

Without a word M8-T activated his jetpack, launching into the air with a cloud of exhaust and startling those below. The higher vantage point, not only clearing the droid from the obstructions provided by the makeshift work camp structures, but allowed greater viewing of the horizon. Matey could see the approaching cloud, the dark shapes at its head clearly not mechanical but instead the undulating shapes of a significant mass of biologicals. Away from the din of the work camp activity, the droid could also make out the agitated lowing of the beasts, who now were surging through the landing fields, a ship listing, it's landing gear clearly compromised by the thundering herd.
Mar 24, 2026 3:35 pm
The Jedi watched the droid soar into the air. He suspected there might be a vehicle approaching, but he would have the facts soon...
Mar 24, 2026 7:25 pm
A great mass of one or more biologicals was one of the possibilities within Matey's analysis (though a low probability one), so he is not surprised at the development, and just kind of mutters to himself "Roger, Roger...", while he descends and processes his next course of action.

It was concerning that, if they were headed this way, the momentum of the creatures is enough to topple a speeder or starship... That didn't bode well for individuals or even groups of the bipedals below.

During his descent, if he hasn't noticed one already (perhaps the woman representing and speaking to the workers?), he scans the crowd for someone with a voice-amplification device.

(Holding the director, with possibly some sort of broadcast/intercom access inside, in his mind as a last resort due to the extra time to get to it...)

If he can see or hear one, he descends directly toward that person, prepared to deliver the uncomfortable news.

His processors whirr and click as he scans his memory banks for what the creatures could be, incase that might help organizing a response. His programming was not directly oriented toward this sort of knowledge, but his processor were fast and capable searchers...

His primary way that he seeks to do that, is to find someone with a megaphone (or other way to amplify such a statement).

This being a protest, I figured there would likely be multiple people with megaphones, so I didn't leave a Perception. But if needed, I can provide that.

Failing finding someone with a megaphone outside, he'll head inside to tell the director, so that hopefully it can be announced on a system or something?

Banthas. The large curved horns, the massive size, easily identified within Matey's memory banks. Descending his first concern was for the intelligent species below, his second for a means to communicate the approaching doom, as the creatures have already begun to overrun the landing fields. His own internal amplifiers should more than accomplish the task for the gathered crowd, though his secondary thought of having the Director broadcast some sort of warning was certainly valid.
OOC:
Easily identifiable so I removed the Setback. M8-T would know that Banthas (or at least a variant) is native to Bacrana.

Not wanting to cause a panic - still looking for someone best capable of communicating the message, and so transmitted over his comms to Reynar, " There is a large heard of bantha stampeding in this direction. I would suggest everyone moving to a secure location..."
Mar 26, 2026 11:02 am
Deng's brow furrows as he hears M8-T's warning. "Will the walls hold?" he asks, wondering aloud about the structual stability of the administration building. The looking around he wonders how many people they could fit in here.
Mar 26, 2026 8:43 pm
Matey, painfully, or at least as much as a droid could be self-aware, understood his lacking social graces made him a poor candidate to address the camp residents. Looking towards his associate and companion Reynar he reported his observations implying for the Twi'lek skip tracer relay the information to the crowd. Deng for his part worriedly looked towards the make shift structures, familiar enough with the corporate policies of those he worked for to know that cost cutting was the word of the day. He did recall however a more permanent structure on the edge of the camp used to store fuel, chemicals, and the like necessary to keep a mining and extraction operation functioning.

Though the Doctor's comments were more a thought, spoken aloud, anyone could see that the structures of the work camp were low cost and not by any means meant to be permanent. Reynar however, having spent a considerable amount of time in what he had come to call his own 'office', knew that being privately funded, that the local watering hole was a bit more structurally sound in its construction.
OOC:
Following up on @emsquared's earlier inquiry. It could be assumed that some sort of voice/sound amplification device would be easily found.

Everyone would be able to see that the admin building and employee trailers would not withstand a stampede. As noted Deng would know that there is a permanent / more secure building used to store equipment and Reynar would know that the cantina is a little more robust of a structure as well.
Mar 27, 2026 2:07 pm
"We need to get people to the storage facility," Deng says, his brain finally catching up to his panic. "The only proper building in town. Leave it to the corp to only secure the valuables."

But Deng was quite certain that he didn't have access. So he looks to the director. "You! You have access, you can get us inside."

"Okay, we need to get into town, the structures there weren't made by the lowest bidder. I've got a speeder bike back there, maybe we can get around the herd and see what's driving then this way." He needed to move his bike anyway, nobody covered 'trampled by stampeding banthas' as a warranty repair.

"Anybody want t come with?"
Apr 3, 2026 6:22 am
"A speeder may be able to divert the herd." He approached the speeder, apparently interesting in doing a little more than reconnaissance.
Apr 4, 2026 12:39 am
Despite thinking "That sounds incredibly dangerous" Reynar kept heading to his speeder. Hoping the Jedi would join him. Whatever weird, strange magical powers the Jedi had would make this easier to pull off, otherwise it would be him and a few stun grenades. Diverting the herd would be a pretty tall order.
Apr 5, 2026 5:38 am
Trusting the doctor and the others to effect the evacuation, he clambered up on the back of the speeder. His mask hissed, as he took in a breath, before leaning over to be heard by the driver. "First, the herd will be herded. Second, the herd will be frightened. And third... something else will be tried."

Hopefully, the howl of the speeder bike would be enough to coax and shape the stampede, and direct it away from the population, with the flash and wail of his lightsaber, if necessary...

Hey gang, I'm back.

A lot "in flight" so don't want to step on any toes.

But sounds like no one has warned the crowd yet, so assuming the Lady Leader of the Miners has some form of voice amplification (and because she is presumably trusted by them), Matey will go to her with his news.

If not her, than literally the first person among the miners he sees that has something.
The droid settles as gently as possible next to the speaker, though the jetpack still blasts dust out in halo around his feet, and says quietly and as calmly but concisely as possible to the speaker, "Sorry to trouble you, however, please urge your fellow workers to head inside a secured structure in an orderly fashion. There is a large stampede of bantha heading directly for this plaza."

His head tilts back and forth gauging how his words are received, as his jetpack propulsors begin to shriek as they spin up again, as the droid prepares to head to a rooftop.
Apr 8, 2026 7:08 pm
Despite his well delivered and authoritative statement to the Director, instructing the corporate exec to make haste to the storage facility and open the structure up for refuge, Marnis needed very little urging as he stood and as dignified as he could straightened his executive outfit and quickly paced towards the door, his access card in hand. Deng perhaps wanted to believe the Director was concerned with the safety of his workers but suspected the acceptance was more in order to save his own skin that that of the miners.

Reynar was the first to jump into action, hopping on his speeder bike with the stated intention of scouting out what may have startled the herd, only to be quickly joined by the Jedi Kitichik whose instructions may or may not have been heard over the growl of the speeder's engines. Once confident the Gand was secure Reynar gunned the engines, head tails flapping in the wind as he sped off.

M8-T, whose lack of social graces did not hinder him from looking out for the miners well being, urging the foreman to use her loudspeaker and get the crowd moving towards safety before jetting off in search of an appropriate rooftop, that just happened to be the storage facility that Deng was in the process of moving the town residents too.
OOC:
Not in rounds yet, per say, but I am calling the Bantha herd now at 'Extreme' range that will take the speeder two (2) rounds to reach.
Apr 9, 2026 12:53 am
"Get close. As close as possible. Pull up alongside and lean in. Divert the Bantha."

He clutched the heavy lightsaber in one hand, the other holding firm to the seat of the bike. He lifted it straight above his head, and with a snap, the blade extended. The searing white light left a contrail of faintly green energy in one's vision as the energy lanced into the air.

The distinctive hum of the blade, normally the dull buzz of the tightly focused beam fighting against its equally tightly focused containment field when the blade was moved or jostled, became a rippling, warbling cacophony as he dialed back the beam's tightness, making it waver and flicker just slightly against the atmosphere whipping past it on their ride over. He hoped the bright light and terrible sound might give the beasts pause, and encourage them to change course.

As Reynar maneuvered close to the stampeding banthas, Kitichik ignited his saber, waving the blinding light above his head in a vain attempt to distract the thundering herd. While it was hard to determine if the hum of the Jedi's weapon could be heard over the booming engine of Reynar's speeder bike or the pounding hoofs of the banthas, it was clear that the light an intended distraction. The lead banthas eyes widened wildly, mouths frothing, as they zeroed in on the sharp light, slowly shifting the herd towards the Gand and his Twi'lek pilot and seemingly picking up speed.

In the work camp, under Deng's urgings the workers seemed to be gathering their wits and organizing themselves for an orderly retreat to one of the more stout buildings. The doctor had urged calm, but perhaps the miners were a bit too calm, heading towards the storage building at a somewhat unhurried pace.

He had not expected to attract them, but it was just as well. They could be more easily led. He patted Reynar's shoulder, and then motioned towards where the ground grew more rocky and uneven, a place to funnel the beasts where they might expend some of their frantic energy navigating the ground they could easily soar over, and away from the packed roads and avenues of the work camp.

"Good. The Banthas follow."
Apr 14, 2026 6:14 am
'Good' evidently meant something different in Gand than it did in Basic, Reyar thought as he bore down on the throttle of his bike. The banthas seemed to be moving their way. The Gand seemed to consider this a success, but Reyar was trying to figure a way out of this without getting his lekku stomped by stampeding banthas. He turned in the direction the Gand indicated, the bike could probably handle the rough terrain better than the banthas could, at least there was that. He might be able to use the tractor beam to impede them more, maybe even break up their formation. This was gonna take more than two stun grenades, that was for sure.
OOC:
What would the difficulty be over the rockier terrain?
Apr 14, 2026 7:40 am
Deng stresses that the miners seems to move more as if they are leaving a concert than escaping certain doom. But at least no one is in danger of being trampled by each other at the moment. Maybe they have enough time for this speed to get it done in time.

From the roof of the depot, Matey was doing the same math as Deng.

They're moving too slowly...

He knew it would likely do more harm than good for him to start urging them to move faster.

But he had to do something...

Every one body that he could physically move to a safe place is one body that wouldn't get trampled... he figured.

And so that's what he resolved to do.

Swoop in toward the back of the crowd. Pluck up the lightest looking person, and place them on the roof.

He would do that as many times as he could before the bantha were there, or everyone was inside.

Surprised, yet undaunted, at the relative success of his distraction, Kitichik decided to take advantage of the nearby terrain to slow the herd, urging Reynar towards the rocky, uneven hills with a firm pat of the shoulder. The Twi'lek skip tracer however was not as convinced, nor enthusiastic of their success but complied with the Jedi's suggestion none the less, nudging the speeder's nose towards the broken terrain.

From Deng's perspective, his frustrations at the miner's less than hurried pace, compounded as he turned his gaze towards the horizon, the cloud of dust kicked up by the approaching stampede nearly on top of the collection of prefabricated structures that made up the mining camp, as the sound of the irritated herd nearly deafening. It wouldn't be a surprise to see a bantha crash through one of the hastily erected structures at any moment.

Matey, following the Doctor's example, swooped down from his perch to grab an unexpecting miner from the rear of the slow moving crowd the speed of which even surprised the droid as he was already in route to the supply building before the drunken worker began to struggle. The intensity of the miner's reaction threw him off, causing him to land before the door in lieu of the roof and wasted precious time. He might have time to grab another but certainly, by the size and distance of the approaching dust cloud, no more.

Almost as one, showing a renewed sense of solidarity that had been absent since their foreman's, Elira Voss, earlier attempt to negotiate with Director Dorell, the miners turned, drunken eyes finding confidence in those of their comrades before shifting their gazes to the camp doctor. What had been an innocent insult to spur the unhurried workers on to safety, as it turned out was not as minor a slight as Deng anticipated, being compared to Core Worlders a dig to the rough and tumble fringers ego that could not go unanswered. Rivaling that of their early demonstration, the angry shouts of the miners quickly drowned that of the approaching stampede, the agitated lowing of the banthas mixing with the hurled insults of the equally agitated miners to form a cacophony that overwhelmed Deng's already heightened nerves.

Matey, who was enduring his own tongue lashing from an angered and drunken worker, stood beside the supply building as the situation with the workforce was quickly deteriorating, the miners suddenly abandoning their slow pursuit of safety and turning on the doctor with angered shouts and insults, the approaching stampede apparently forgotten. Fortunately, as seen from his most recent jet-pack propelled advantage of height, the herd seemed to be passing the workcamp by, of their own accord or from his compatriot's doing he was unable to tell.

Opening up the throttle, Reynar raced towards the rocky, uneven terrain rising up from the otherwise flat, grassy plain. The outcroppings, seeming small from a distance, turned out to be large boulders and rocky spires, testing the skip tracers abilities as the Starhawks systems groaned in protest. The banthas, clearly frenzied by bright flashing blade of the Gand Jedi, were not heated enough to follow, turning away from the rough, rocky ground. Still overwrought, their bellows urging each other on, the charge continued, however diverted enough to miss the work camp but now placing the thundering surge directly in line with the colony town ...

"... Less good." His chitinous claws gripped the back of the Twi'lek's jacket as they wove through the boulder-strewn glacial mounds. They had bought some time and averted the immediate crisis, but he did not know how long the banthas would keep going. The colony, though undoubtedly better-equipped to handle an onrush of wildlife than a mere encampment, was not exactly an acceptable route for this stampede either.

With a snap, his lightsaber dissipated, pulled back into its sheath. He attached it to his belt as he scanned, contemplating his next move. "...Perhaps... they are still being driven." He tugged the jacket again. "Can this twi'lek move behind them to see?"
Apr 21, 2026 9:53 pm
Reynar didn't like the way the bike rattled when he opened up the throttle. I need to get that checked, he thought as he turned the bike back toward the herd. He didn't have the lekku to go through the herd, instead he made a wide circle around the banthas, respecting the damage those trampling feet could do to the Jedi, and more importantly, to him.

"I'll get us back there, just keep your eyes out."
Apr 21, 2026 10:33 pm
Matey was ready to feel accomplished (and look for a benefactor) but the continuation of the course of the bantha proved that would have to wait a bit yet..

Seeing them heading for the places where people lived was even more concerning. There could be families there.

"Roger roger...", he mutters to himself again, and kicks on his jetpack propulsors... again.
OOC:
Looking to fly over the settlement and... I guess just assess, at first. Are there innocents - particularly children - out and about or..?

His 'pak counts as a vehicle/moves at Planetary-scale speed. So he will use a Maneuver to accelerate from 0-1 speed, then use his action to fly the vehicle over the colony.

If 1 Planetary Range Band is not enough to put him over the colony (that's... Extreme Personal Scale, I believe, so what ... I think that's 4 rounds of Personal scale movement if something (like the banthas) is double moving every turn. 2.5 rounds if triple moving (causing 2 Strain each round), he will take a 2nd maneuver (and 2 Strain) to move up to 2 Planetary Range Bands in the first doesn't get him over the colony.
Apr 22, 2026 2:45 pm
Deng tries to shrink himself and look as unimposing as possible. He may have judged in error, and if he should get his ass kicked which doctor could he go to. He want to untangle himself from the whole thing. With the colony threatened, his services might be needed. Most of the workers might be here yelling at him, but there were people who didn't work the mines as well. And who knows how many were just to drunk to wake up for the protest and are now sleeping.

"Look! Let's not do anything we'll regret," he tries to calm them. "We need to warn the colony. You could stand here and give me a black eye or we can try to get your families to safety!"

As the enraged Banthas turned to avoid the rocky terrain, it was a simple matter of waiting for the stampede to pass for Reynar and Kitichik to fall in behind, dark shapes undulating within a thick cloud of dust accompanied by the agitating lowing of the herd.

M8-T's feelings of accomplishment were quickly dashed, discovering what had been an apparent success to be only a temporary delay. The workcamp was saved only for the original settlement to be threatened. Leaving the doctor, who was being surrounded by the angry mob of workers, to suffer whatever consequences of his outburst that may come. The town was only a few clicks away, far enough away to avoid the rough and tumble and at times morally bankrupt camp but close enough to provide aide and supplies should they be required, and the droids trusty jetpack made short work of the distance. The citizens, only mildly surprised at the sudden presence of a droid circling their rooftops, were milling about their daily activities, only a few looking up from their work and activities with curiosity at the approaching cloud that was still some distance away. Matey however knew from prior experience they they undoubtedly should now be feeling the first vibrations of the pounding hooves of the herd.

Their were a few dismissive snorts at Deng's attempts at calming the agitated crowd, probably due to the mining camp having little to do with the colony, though certainly some might have family that had taken abode in the more permanent settlement, as the mob continued to move in towards the doctor, shouts and insults reaching a crescendo as fists began to ball and tools raised. A shrill whistle pierced the din, the barkeep, leaning on the frame of his establishment eyeing the angered mob.

Matey lamented internally that he wasn't armed with a blaster or repeater... One of the easiest ways to get people to take cover would be to fire... not ON them exactly... but around them.

And while the one social apptitude he possessed was to scare people, that didn't have the kind of reach that he felt the system situation called for.

So, he turned to the mining company and, hopefully, it's need to mitigate liability in situations... pretty much exactly like this.

Certainly the area of the domiciles had some sort of emergency warning system? In the event of natural disaster or hostile attack, they should have klaxons positioned about the settlement, shouldn't they?

If he could find such a system, maybe he could hotwire it to go off, even if the mining administrator hadn't yet identified this as a president situation in which they should do so...

Ok, so, couple things...

With a cheer the previously enraged mob, grabbed the proffered bottles from the bartender, and with a renewed enthusiasm began to move down the beaten dirt roadway that ran through the center of workcamp, eager to assist the nearby colony town. However, in their drunken exuberance they failed to take into account the distance between the two settlements and at their brisk walking pace would not arrive in time to deter the banthas and would be available to clean up at best. Nevertheless, cries of 'grilled bantha tonight' and 'smoked ribs' followed in their wake.

Internal processers computing data at impossible speeds, Matey reasonably extrapolated the settlements need for some sort of system to warn it's inhabitants in the event of danger. The colony however was independent of the mining corporation, proceeding the establishment of the work camp by years if not decades, so their incorporation of technology into their structures was minimal. Smart considering, living on the frontier would bring challenges to getting parts and repairs for technology. The droid's solution was not without merit as the town did indeed have a warning system of sorts, for standing in the middle of the hamlet was a bell tower.

Alighting on the belfry like some sort of mechanical bird, Matey grabbed the leather wrapped mallet and struck the large metal topped cauldron, the low sounding 'gong' causing the citizens below to look up in alarm, shielding their eyes against the glare to see what might be the cause for the alarm and much like the miners before seeing a thick, dusty fog approaching from the horizon.

Joining the crowd, Deng resigned his self to the fact that they would be to late to be of any use deterring the stampede but with doctor's bag in hand hopeful they could at least render medical aide and assistance in clean up.

Matey's attempts to spur the townsfolk into action by supplementing the warning gong with his mechanically amplified vocoder did not solicit the expected urgent response. Instead the crowd looked up curiously at the commotion, moving towards the bell structure out of practiced routine, sensing the droid's danger if not in total understanding, the steady building vibration and approaching dust cloud however was concerning.

While there were no obvious, physical, signs of a presence urging the herd onward, the banthas certainly seemed motivated by some external force as Kitichik knew from his brief stay on the frontier planet that while the banthas did migrate as one massive, stampeding herd, that it currently was not the season.

I mean... I failed a Coercion check, sure, but I didn't get a despair.

If my goal was to get everyone's attention, and/or scare them (into hiding as fast as possible)? Ok, I failed at that. I didn't get everyone's attention, and I didn't succeed in making them move any faster... But doesn't that mean I still got some folks attention, and they may still move toward shelter (albeit unhurriedly)?

Point is. I don't necessarily think it's appropriate that my efforts have had the complete opposite effect/made things worse, just because I failed.

That makes me as a player not want to try to do things, unless my pool is absolutely stacked.

Doesn't seem like that's a desirable outcome from a game play perspective.

Whoops!! My most sincerest apologies. For some reason I registered the roll as (3) Threat and not (1) Threat. Perhaps work is not the best place to post always

I have edited my post to reflect a more accurate interpretation. The crowd is now moving towards Matey, not hurried, but clearly concerned with his warnings if a bit unsure of the danger.

Again. My apologies.

Matey, not wanting to risk any miscommunication between the biologicals and his robotic ways, will just continue periodically ringing the bell. Interspersed with pauses at intervals to let the sound of the approaching stampede be heard, and hoping that they will make the connection on their own soon enough to save themselves.

The goggles did nothing to shed light on the current situation. He didn't have any firm plan to proceed, just a dangerous half baked plan his brain started to pull together.

"Well that was a big fat bust. Do you have any ideas?"

"This Gand can think of one other thing, but that idea is very dangerous and ... " He paused for a second. Only the driver could hear the hiss of his mask. Had he just mistimed his breath, or was he hesitating? " ... not very good."

He glanced over at the rampaging creatures. "If this twi'lek would have this Gand make the attempt, the speeder would need to be very... very close to the leading bantha."

OOC:
Since you are driving in a straight line ahead of the stamped Reynar would need to make a Simple (-) Piloting check with (2) Setback BB dice for difficult 'terrain' (being within the unpredictable crowd of banthas). Failure would not necessarily mean a crash and you die but more likely system strain and/or increased difficulty to exit the stampede and any actions Kitichik may want to perform.

However Kitichik I believe is only able to Move up to Silhouette 2 and Banthas are 3.

Really good thought though!

EDIT: I feel like there is a way to allow for above and beyond Force use but currently am unable to find it in any of my sourcebooks ... @emsquared - Do you recall anything of that nature?
Jun 24, 2026 2:25 pm
OOC:
I could be wrong but my recollection is that there's guidance more for using the Basic version of a Power that you don't have yet, I think.

And I think it's something like, if you don't have a Force Power yet but intend to buy it soon, the GM can allow you to flip a Destiny Point for a one time use.

I don't necessarily see why a similar principle couldn't be applied to an one time Power upgrade when it was really important to the Force user tho.
Jun 24, 2026 7:32 pm
OOC:
I too thought I had read that somewhere but was unable to find it (granted I'm at work so it was a cursory glance through the sourcebooks) but as it seems to be confirmed by another I feel somewhat validated in my thinking.

@GreyGriffin - if you want to flip a Destiny for a one time Power upgrade I would allow.

Dang, are they actually S3? I thought S3 was like, house-sized megabeasts. I'll put the Destiny in to make the attempt, though.
As the speeder edged in closer to the lead bantha, he turned around on the seat. One leg propped up on the back of the bike, as it slowed, just slightly. A hand reached out, and he felt the physical distance between them decrease. Felt the spiritual distance between them decrease.

The Bantha was a bundle of... itself. Muscle, sinew, even its rudimentary mind and personality, it was all a whorl in the force. A ripple in the fabric of the universe. Thought made manifest. And like a thought, it could be changed. Its place in the universe was as ephemeral as its thoughts.

At least in theory...

Three exoskeletal claws splayed, held steady even as the speeder bounced, and he reached across the gap with the force.

Anyone sensitive to it often described synesthesia. Most humans claimed to hear it, a dull roar, like a roaring vein heard through clenched jaw and plugged ears. He felt it, as if the air had grown thick around him, a whorl of dense wind directed by thought, and saw, visible in his peripheral vision as a faint heat mirage.

And with his will he tried to turn the beast, away into the rocks, away from the town and its inhabitants, to where its anger and frustration could be spent, and the knots of its primitive emotions could untangle themselves harmlessly...

You have to say whether you want to use the dark pips.

Requires another Destiny(or does it Seuss since he already flipped one in the action?) and 2 Strain and 2 Conflict. But if you do, maybe you'll save the day?

2 pips is not enough to move S3. I needed to roll two doubles. (One to Move something, 3 to upgrade from S0 to S3.)

OOC:

OOC:
That's incorrect.

1 can trigger the Basic Power - move something Sil0 within Short Range up to Short Range.

+1 increases the Sil of the thing you can move up to the number of Strength upgrades you have. Which I thought that up until this point I had understood you to have purchased 2 Strength Upgrades with XP, and Seuss allowed you a 3rd for Destiny.

You'd still be limited to only moving it within Short Range, as you don't have any pips to increase Range, but if my understanding is correct regarding the upgrades you've purchased and are allowed, you can do this with just 2 pips.

If you only have 1 Strength upgrade purchased, then you are correct, but you didn't even need to flip a Destiny to do it in that case.

OOC:
In reading em's logic I think that makes more sense and it would only take the two pips - 1 to activate and 1 to increase the Sil up to your max strength upgrade.

The initial Destiny to allow you a one time Strength upgrade.

However I don't believe you have the 2 Destiny Points left to use the Dark Side pips.

Though if you're willing to take on the conflict and strain AND this initial stampede was meant to be easier then it's turning out to be and in the interest of moving things forward I will allow you to flip the two needed as a borrowing situation of sorts where I would have two to spend without flipping.

I haven't intentionally hoarded mine - unfortunate rolls have made things difficult for you all and I didn't want you to think I was trying to pile on

Slowly, the connection was made, the fear and aggression emanating from the immense beast nearly overwhelming Kitichik's senses, as his own frustration bridged the gap between his outstretched hand and the lead Bantha, forcing the massive creature to pivot ever so slightly. The noise of the agitated herd reached a crescendo as the herd began to turn, the beasts bumping into each other with angry shakes of their large curled horns and gnashing of teeth. Reynar, expertly kept the struggling speeder bike free from the massive legs that threatened to over take the, even has the engines groaned in protest. Perhaps with some relief the town, that had been straight before them and rapidly approaching, began to shift to the peripheral of their view as the thundering, stampede began to move away. Still connected to the lead beast, Kitichik felt a sharp surge of frustration, an uneasiness that did not seem to be the beasts' own.

From his elevated vantage point, Matey could see the cloud of dust that had been quickly approaching began to move away, the near deafening pounding of hooves and agitated lowing lessening slightly, only to unexplainably increase in intensity. What had been tiny vibrations associated with the ringing cauldron, increased to violent quakes that had the stone tower swaying, the people below who had been heeding his warnings and making their way towards the structure now began to disperse in a panic.

Out on the plain Deng, despite the raucous crowd of miners, could not help but notice the eerie quiet of the surroundings, as if all was holding it's breath, before the ground began to violently shake.

Out on the open grassland there was little in the way of a high vantage point, however some comfort might be found as clearly the dust cloud and agitated groaning of the herd was moving away from Deng and his merry band. The crisis seem to have been adverted, though bantha steaks for dinner there would be not.

Whatever relief would be short lived as the shaking, now clearly not a cause of hooves pounding the ground, intensified and tore the drunken miners from their revelry. Eyes widening with near panic all seemed to turn, as one, towards the good doctor.
OOC:
Deng would be able to see the rocky outcroppings Kitichik and Reynar encountered earlier off in the distance and can see the dust cloud (and noise level) receding into the distance but not much else being in a grassy plain (think Lothal from Rebels where they were always hiding in the tall grass).
Jun 30, 2026 3:39 pm
Matey looks around reflexively as the ground begins to shake, and being detached from his comrade(s) by some distance, gets on his comm as he kicks up his jetpack and flies back toward the mining center.

"Reynar, what's your status? I'm heading back toward the mine administrator..."

He exhaled, the breath leaving his body, shoulders sagging. Tiny, clawed hands clutched the back of the speeder bike as his concentration gave way, the vast beast put off course, at least.

His respirator hissed quietly, his eyes darkening for a moment as he grappled with his own consciousness, having immersed himself deeply in the Force. The subsumption of self had proved more challenging than... well, not more challenging than he expected, but more challenging than it should have been. He would meditate on the Cosmic Force in due time. For the moment, he would have to accept his perception of Self.

In town, the gathered crowd looked up with a bit of uncertainty and yet relief, despite the violent quaking of the ground beneath them, as the appearance of the mysterious droid, whose wild calls and timely ringing of the bell had them in the relative safety of the open square, even as their odd, mechanical savior jetted off towards what they could only assume its headquarters at the mining camp.

Reynar confirming their success, or the Jedi's rather even if his actions were no less important, turned the now struggling speeder back towards the camp, repulsors absorbing the violent shaking of the ground, leaving he and his Jedi companion unaffected by the quake.

Upon the open plain Deng's less than confident phrasing did little to spur the miners to any sort of action, though the fact he presented where no less true, leaving the agitated mob cowed for the moment and content to ride out the shaking in the safety of the open. It was clear however to the doctor that they most likely would be returning to camp, concerned with whatever damage the earthquake might have caused to their own situation than the neighboring town.

Matey was the first to arrive back at the camp, the damage minimal to his ocular sensors, despite the now haphazard layout to the camp, the temporary structures no longer in the orderly rows and instead at odd and different angles, the shaking of the ground having shifted them on their makeshift foundations. A testament to the manufacturer that the structures all were intact and as safe as they were when first erected. The droids sensitive auditory receivers however picked up from the grumbling miners milling about that much of the equipment however did not fair as well, the more optimistic of them cheerily offering that at least now they all would have work and within the safe confines of the camp.

The protest, the stampede, the quake, all combined to be enough excitement for the day thus it was when Reynar and Kitichik arrived that most of the camp had successfully assisted the cantina owner in putting his establishment back in order and were raucously engaged in forgetting the mornings troubles.
OOC:
The consensus seemed to be to meet back at the mining camp so I have pushed things to that end. There are no real injuries nor structural damage but I am spending one of the banked Destiny Points to alter the narrative to all of the mine equipment (i.e. vehicles) are damaged and will take some time to repair. He dismounted the bike as it entered the mining camp, his feet finding the ground. His mask gave off a hiss as he stood still for a moment, reorienting himself after the strain of the feat. He was no master, but he had done what he could.

"Stampeding banthas..." pause, click, hiss, "not a normal occurance."

He gazed in the direction that the beasts had come from, then up to the man who'd been brave enough to give him a ride. "This Gand has need of a tracker who knows this area. There is an unknown thing afoot."
Jul 20, 2026 10:25 am
Deng is almost limping as he returns to town, his legs not used to this much walking, at least not with shoes more suited for sitting in an office than long forays into the wilderness.

He looks at the crowd behind him. Luckily they were protesting today, or most of these would be in the mines when the quake hit.

He picks a few at random. "You there. Go check to see if there's been any cave ins," he orders, though his tired voice betrays his confidence.

"The rest of you. Hope you don't mind postponing the protest until we've made sure no one has become hurt. Now let's see what damage was done."
Jul 20, 2026 2:12 pm
Seeing Raynar and the other few folks who took action, Matey lands with a thunk and a small dust cloud ejecting around him.

His speakers buzz, "Nnngt... what was that all about... Angry ranchers? Negligent, perhaps? Or were they wild beasts?

We should see what the colony administrator knows, yes?
"
Jul 22, 2026 1:01 pm
The unlikely group of heroes, thrown together in the excitement of the mornings occurrences, regrouped back at the mining camp, ready to take assessment and decide next steps. Deng, as the camp doctor, understandably was concerned with the safety and wellbeing of his panel. His call to assess the conditions of the mines fell on deaf ears, the mornings labor strike and protest insuring that no being would have been working and as for the condition, well the consensus of the disgruntled laborers was that that was a corporate problem. Seeing the rest of their comrades at the cantina, the crowd that had followed the doctor's earlier call to assist the town, begin dispersing towards the promised drink and fellowship with the danger seemingly passed.

Kitichik, sensing something broader at work, sensibly asked Reynar if he would be willing to join him looking beyond the confines of the camp whilst the Twi'lek skiptracers droid suggested they continue their prior conversation with the camp administrator. The Director, no longer cowering in his office, was instead outside the bar with voice amplifier attempting, unsuccessfully, to spur the camp to action. The mines needed to be surveyed for damage, the equipment inventoried and what had been damaged repaired, and the prefab structures placed back in their more orderly positions. The miners for their part, already having disrupted their day for the picket line and subsequent stampede and quake, were ignoring the corporate exec whose instructions were quickly delving into threats of docked pay and dismissal when the odd team of fringer, doctor, Jedi, and droid approached.

OOC:
Do we need to come to a consensus on next steps?

Suggestions seen to be:
1. Track the herd (back to where they came from?).
2. Survey the damage.
3. Talk to the Director.

RE: 2. while I'm open to it in theory, and that seems like what the Doctor would do, I'm not sure that creates a path forward for us. @Furmyr what do you see there that has something for us to do/points us toward an actionable goal?

1. is a great idea to me, but Matey would want some sort of promise of pay before embarking on such a venture (I know the Jedi wouldn't care about that, but if he's recruiting the services of a tracker, does that involve pay?).

3. I think we'd be relying on the GM to point us where to go with this one.

Thoughts?
Jul 27, 2026 7:18 pm
OOC:

I do not want to be railroady, so I have been trying to keep things as open as possible and let things organically develop but as the question has been posed, my neutral thoughts would be as follows:

1. Tracking the Herd - can absolutely be done as much like, to anyone that has seen the movie Dances with Wolves, there is a wide swath of torn up ground leading off into the distance;
2. Surveying the Damage - can be independently pursued or negotiate with the Director to be compensated and/or supported (with men and/or gear);
3. Talk to the Director - the director would be a source, though from your earlier interaction a somewhat reluctant one, for hiring on to perform any of the tasks he was soliciting the miners for (damage assessment, inventory/repair of supplies, camp placed back in order, etc.) or to investigate the miners claims of a beast;
3.a. Talk to Mine Foreman - you also, you may recall, were introduced to the mine foreman and she could be a source for information, or alternatively her own 'patron' as it were for next steps;

4. Talk to the Townspeople - the town and townspeople could also be a source for information or any of the above items as well.
Jul 27, 2026 7:29 pm
OOC:
FWIW, It's not railroading to have a linear story, i.e. I wasn't trying to frame that option as bad or undesirable.

I've frankly never seen a sand box game that worked very well in pbp...

And I like the addition of 4! That could come from/while surveying the damage.

Deng don't much care about structural damage, but will take a round to make sure that no one has been damaged. Though with most of the miners out with him, he figures the biggest threat is a few hangovers next morning. While doing his round he will try to listen to the local scuttlebutt to see if anyone has any clue as to what scared the herd.
Jul 30, 2026 2:40 pm

So ... next steps?

emsquared, and I agree, has posed the question on next steps while outlining what he believed those options to be (of which I agreed and elaborated on). And in following up liked Option 4 that Furmyr has picked up on.

Furmyr, I believe, has indicated he may/might return to the town in his capacity as a doctor to make sure there were no injuries and while there see if there is any gossip (following my suggested option 4).

Agreement with this proposed motion? Other thoughts?

Let's see if we can get this story ramped back up and moving forward with some consistency.

Okay. We now have two in agreement to survey / question the native townfolk and a proposal to split the party and have Kitichik at least proposing to follow the path of the stampede back to its origin.

I am fine with splitting the party if that is the consensus. Does anyone want to join Kitichik?

Otherwise I will assume Deng and Matey (and most likely Reynar) heading into town to interact with the townspeople and Kitichik will be following the herd's path.

OOC:
I'm feeling a bit perplexed.

No one seems to want to "group up" which is what I thought we were all here to do.

Part of the fun to me for a game like this is bringing the group together/reconciling our differences, the Jedi talking to the Mercenaries, talking to the "Company Man", and figuring out how we can all meet each others needs (maybe that's the Jedi begrudgingly acknowledging that some ppl need to be paid to live, and he develops a chip on his shoulder about that, but that later gives the Mercenaries a chance to show that they actually are heroic when it comes down to it - like we just did actually, it's straight up Han Solo stuff for that matter). And the Company Man is maybe having to tread a delicate line between the company interest and getting to the bottom of the thing which creates an interesting dynamic amongst a group of others who... don't really necessarily care about the company interest.

But... none of these dynamics, or things like them, are being given a chance to emerge, and I don't really want to go off on my own, I want to game with other people that want to explore these dynamics, as well as the story.

So ... again... just confused as to what's going on/why everyone wants to split up.

EDIT: so ultimately I've just been going along with whatever, looking for a place where I can try to help these things emerge. Matey will probably stick with Raynar, whatever he decides to do, as he's not really equipped or interested in dealing with ppl on his own (in a nonviolent fashion).

I mirror emsquared's thoughts/concerns ... just didn't have the courage to voice them I guess.

I think part of the fix would be if we could commit to a more consistent posting routine ... the other as em said, if the group were to remain together and collectively and organically through character interaction come up with the plan I think we would start to see some relational dynamic begin to form.

Again if the consensus is to split up again I'll go along with the majority but I do think we need to get a little more consistency in our posting.

EDIT: I had a thought after posting this that may / may not assist everyone's thought process. But there seems to maybe be some confusion as to the 'town' and the 'camp'. There is a village / town, the original colonizers of the planet, that is some miles / kilometers away from the mining camp. The mining camp is a very recent settlement that was rather hastily erected once minerals were found and a mining company moved in. The town is older in appearance and more structurally permanent (like a less dirty Ferrix from Andor) where as the mining camp is basically a collection of double wide trailers and prefabricated pods / offices (though as mentioned does have a permanent building used for storage of equipment and supplies).

The town, while not thrilled with the presence of the mining company, has adapted to the situation as long as the mining corps troubles remain confined to the camp and/or mines. The would however be a great source for planet history, local flora/fauna, and info about the local ecosystem/dynamic.

The mining camp, as witnessed, is a bit of a push/pull between the admin and the laborers but anything dealing with the mines, equipment, suppllies, etc. would best be answered by either one (or both) of these groups.

As you may recall, as it has been a few months, but the scene opened in the middle of a labor dispute prior to the interruption by the stampede. The characters all intervened, attempting to settle the disupte between admin and laborers, but was left somewhat unresolved. As it stands now the miners are NOT interested in going to the mines despite the admin's protests.

Hopefully a bit of a helpful review to assist in next steps?

Also, my two cents, that it seems a good idea to follow the path of the stampede back to it's origin however the locals would absolutely be able to provide a great prespective. Thus my suggestion would be to visit the town and then follow the path of the stampede. As a group.

Deng is about to head out when he sees a few familiar faces. The same people who meddled earlier in the afternoon and 'broke into' the adminstration building.

He nods a greeting. "Thanks for the assistance earlier. I don't think we had time for introductions," he says. Then he remembers his manners and hold out a hand to shake. "I'm the local doctor around here. Deng Ardan. Most people around here just call me Doc... if they're in a good mood."

His B1 voice module intones, "Hello, I am M8-T, human-cyborg destructions."
OOC:
Just noticed that Kier has become inactive... looks like M8T is on his own!
His head rattles as you hear two negative-sounding buzzes.

"I meeean... This planet seems full of hazards. My programming is equipped to neutralize many varieties of hazards. It doesn't seem like a Doctor's job to deal with such hazards... Unless they're receiving hazard pay, I suppose.", he mutters at the end.

Matey scans the crowd for either the lady who seemed to be a leader amongst the miners, or the Administrator.

Reynar, smirking, watched the awkward introduction with a touch of amusement. He immediately however latched on to his droid companions apt description of his abilities, eyes surveying the disorganized encampment and sighting both the mine foreman and camp administrator at the local watering hole, the former joining her compatriots in forgetting the mornings excitement while the latter unsuccessfully attempted to rally the laborers to work. With he and Matey's funds rapidly diminishing with little prospect of employment he nodded towards Director Dorell, indicating his preference.

I personally am not opposed to splitting up a group for things like legwork and investigation. Small group dynamics and interactions help solidify personal relationships that can struggle to form in sort of large groupthink blobs, which can great more healthy dynamics overall.

Deng looks surprised at the question. "Uhm.. I know which end of the animal is front and back," he says with a shrug. "I suppose there's some skills that could be equally applied to all genuses. I mean, if something is shot you have to stop the bleeding, but beyond that I don't know much about animal care. Didn't even have pets growing up. Allergies."
Aug 17, 2026 1:10 pm
The rag-tag group of Jedi and adventurers deliberation was suddenly and loudly interrupted by the tumbling of supplies crates, knocked askew during the quake and not yet placed back in order, revealing a rather embarrassed looking young local boy who it seems had been caught in the act of eavesdropping. The youth, known to Kitichik as Kordath, cheeks colored as he looked to the Gand Jedi, painfully aware that it had been suggested he return back to the town, and yet there seemed to be an excited twinkle to his eyes, as if he might have something to add to the conversation.
Aug 18, 2026 4:14 pm
An internal sensor triggers a minor alert at the toppling of crates, and Matey strides over to the figure which caused the disturbance, attempting to grab the child and lift him up by "the scruff" (back of his clothing).
OOC:
Leaving a (Athletics?) check if needed (if he resists?). Setback for his small size?

The young teen let out a surprised yelp as Matey pulled him out from behind the crates, eyes wide as he looked from the droid to the more familiar Jedi, dangling feet kicking frantically.
Aug 20, 2026 12:49 am
His arms folded slowly, hands disappearing into opposite sleeves. It was difficult to tell if he had them crossed with disappointment.

"This child stayed here. Why?"
Aug 20, 2026 8:44 pm
Kordath's legs quieted, head drooping under the Jedi's scrutiny, mouth opening and closing wordlessly as the youth clearly struggled to find a response that would sound believable, if not heroic. Eventually his head lifted, eyes meeting the Gand's, "I. I wanted to see what happened with the miners ... and, and then the stampede happened ... then, then the quake." The young boy's shoulders then shrugged, unable to offer more and acutely aware that the Jedi knew of his almost uncontrollable curiosity with regards to the work encampment.
Aug 21, 2026 2:21 pm
Not processing the awkwardness of the child's position in his grasp, the droid questions as he remains dangling, "And why do you stalk us from the shadows? Do you know something about what has happened?"
Aug 21, 2026 6:51 pm
Jerking his head towards the droid with a start, his eyes flicked nervously from his mechanical captor to the Jedi, as if attempting to gauge if and how much trouble he might be in, "Not. Not stalking ... err sir. Just not wanting to miss anything.

"And it ... It's too early for the Banthas to migrate ... and they've never come this close to town before."
Aug 24, 2026 5:34 am
"This human knows the local banthas' migrations." His breath hissed for a moment. It was a statement, more than a question, an acknowledgement of fact. "Put the human down. This Jedi does not expect the human to harm anyone."

His breath hissed again, as he paused. "What would compel the banthas to move with such recklessness? This is the question. A herd of creatures of that size is not so easily... spooked."
Aug 24, 2026 6:16 pm
Matey looks from the gand to his grip and back to the gand, then his arm slowly lowers with a mechanical whine, "Is that the only thing you have come to tell us?"
Aug 24, 2026 7:29 pm
As Kordath's feet slowly settled to the ground, he straightened his shirt with a tug, attention shifting between the Jedi and droid as if unsure which question to answer first. Turning towards Kitichik he could only shrug and agree that typically the massive herd animals were not easily stirred to move.

"Well," his gaze shifting nervously towards Matey, "Quakes are not a common occurrence either.".
Aug 25, 2026 10:56 am
"So two uncommon occurences in a row is what you're saying," Deng says with a shrug. "Could it be some mining equipment that malfunctioned?"
Aug 25, 2026 2:39 pm
The young teen took in the doctor, eyes shifting from Deng to the Jedi and droid, mouth opening and closing as he struggled to respond before finally closing with shrug of his shoulders, facial expression wordlessly indicating that mining and mining equipment was well outside his experience.

Familiar with the youth and his curious tendencies, Kitichik felt the young man might have more to say, the nervous glances between he and the doctor, the slight flush to the teen's cheeks however indicated a reluctance to share.
OOC:
As noted, it appears that Kordath might have more to say on his mind but for some reason or another is reluctanct to share. Kitichik and Deng have picked up on this so either one / or both (if you want to go with an assisted check) would need to make a Coercion, Charm, or Negotiation roll (or some other social skill if you have an outside of the box approach). As Kordath seems real reluctant or embarrassed to share I am spending a Destiny (mainly to help build back up the Light side pool and because it narratively fits) to upgrade the Difficulty.

Roll agains (1) Challange (RED) die. Because of Kitichik's familiarity and friendliness with the youth if he makes or leads the roll you can add a Boost (BLUE) die.
Aug 25, 2026 9:42 pm
OOC:
Deng have 2 presence and 1 rank in Negotiation, how are your dice pool Kitchik?
Aug 25, 2026 11:57 pm
OOC:
Kitichik has 4 green in Coercion (iirc, that's Willpower?) and 2Y 1G in Negotiation.
Aug 26, 2026 9:56 am
Deng searches his pockets, suddenly remembering he had a small bag with beef jerkey. He produces it and offers to the kid.

"You hungry?" he asks in a friendly manner. "You really don't have to be nervous of us. More bark than bite."
OOC:
Kitchik has the highest pool, so if I aid, at best I'll give you another boost die.
Aug 26, 2026 3:43 pm
Kitichik remained outwardly impassive. It was difficult at the best of times to read his expression, with his breath mask covering the motile parts of his face. The rest, including his segmented eyes, were held rigid by exoskeleton. He didn't exactly exude empathy. It did not help that his mastery of Basic was just great enough to be uncanny when his cultural more's collided with linguistic norms.

But he did choose his words very carefully.

"This Gand is looking for more information on the stampede and what might have caused it. But there are very few clues. If this Gand does not discover anything, well, this Gand will have to return to his office and report to the civic authorities on the happenings here in the camp. The town council will be curious to know what happened."

His mask hissed as he inhaled deeply. He was not often so verbose. "Of course, if this Gand is headed back into the town, it wuld be prudent of this Gand to ensure that this human is returned safely to this human's family. I am sure this human's mother would be relieved to know where the human had been during this dangerous incident." There was a click as he inhaled again, and another as he tapped the side of his mask, running over its intake hose, a tactile tick that appeared very similar to tapping his chin in thought.

"Of course, if this Gand had more urgent information to act upon, this Gand would surely have no choice but to trust this human to return promptly of this human's own devices, and communicate this human's safety and well-being in this human's own words, which this Gand can only trust will be as accurate and prompt as this Gand's own report. It would, of course, be regrettable if this human's... excessive bravery and bold initiative in assisting this Gand's duties went unreported to the human's parental couple, simply because this Gand had pressing matters to attend to."

Taking the offered snack from the doctor, the teenage boy took a bite, slowly chewing as he considered the Jedi's words, his earlier reticence melting away at the Gand's reasonable proposal.

"Master Jedi," he replied, a touch of reluctance in his tone as he cheeks again reddened in slight embarrassment before steeling his courage, eyes flicking towards Kitichik's companions, "Uhhh ... the, the stories sir.

"Legends from our town's founding spoke of a creature, the weather and the animals responding with calm or fury matching the creature's approval or anger.

Shrugging, he met the groups eyes, knowing how preposterous his explanation sounded. Eyes widening, an eagerness to his voice, "I know where the banthas typically graze ... I could take you there." His hopeful face turned to Kitichik ...
OOC:
Kitichik and Deng would be able to tell that the teen has said his peace and is not hiding anything further.
Sep 1, 2026 5:39 am
"Or this Gand could be told where it is." Kitichik had been indulgent with the child, but he did not want to put him in any danger, if there was some kind of predator or even malicious actor out in the field. "If there is a bantha, wounded or dead, what killed it may still be in that place." His conjecture might reveal why he wanted Deng to accompany him - to determine the cause of death for anything nearby that might have spooked the herd.
Sep 1, 2026 12:38 pm
"Well no use standing around talking about it," Deng says. "Let's just get out there and get it over with."
Sep 1, 2026 12:46 pm
Shoulders drooping, eyes narrowing and mouth turning down in the beginnings of a frown, the disappointed teen would not be deterred as he defiantly met the Jedi's alien eyes, "I. I know all the local predators and, and can tell you which one may have caused any injuries or death and ... and if still there ... then, then how to calm it ... or scare it off."

Slightly turning, the youth looked to the Gand's companions for support. Reynar offered the young man a shrug, indicating he had no opinion either way.

OOC:
I don't have a problem with that ... or if you want to narratively pivot you could just have Matey approach the Director and offer his services seeing the greater opportunity for action and steady work. Assuming as a droid on the run he would not necessarily have much 'loyalty' so to speak to Reynar.

Edit: I also noticed it appears that Kier may have returned. I have messaged him directly so maybe :fingers crossed: he has indeed returned to the site and will be eager to continue.
Sep 5, 2026 12:19 am
Kitichik folded his arms and looked towards the droid and doctor, confident they would agree that the small child might be unnecessarily endangered tagging along.

Seuss says:
OOC:
I don't have a problem with that ... or .
OOC:
Yea, it's just that a big part of M8T's whole thing is social (and in that way: business) ineptitude, outside of coercive means so having him approach the Director doesn't feel right. I literally can't picture what he'd even say/a cohesive narrative in which he would approach them. And it could frankly cause further inconsistency down the line.

I'd prefer the security-droid pivot.
Sensing not the question hanging in the air, but rather the opportunity to confirm his programming, Matey chimes in, "If the child is to come with us, I can dedicate at least 67 percent of my capacity to protecting him."

Looking to the other citizen of the colony, "Sorry doctor, but he is a child."
Sep 9, 2026 7:08 am
"Could you not just point out on a map where we're going?" Deng asks the kid.
Sep 9, 2026 3:15 pm
Joining the morning protest, with little other options available since those laborers working the mining and extraction activities on strike, Thalen had joined his colleagues at the local watering hole. The interruption from the stampede and the unrelated, maybe, quake causing his companions to forget about their grievances against the company to drink away and congratulate each other on the earlier excitement and their role, however small, in 'saving' the encampment. Director Dorell, who had been for the past few minutes, was desperately trying to spur the workers to action, the quake having left the camp in disarray with the state of the mines currently unknown, however Thalen's coworkers would not be moved, barely registering the increasingly incessant Director. Eventually the irritated administrator's attention was diverted to a group of beings, unassociated with the company, that Thalen has seen interject themselves into the protest earlier. The group appeared to be harrassing a local, a young teen that Thalen had seen hanging around the encampment on occassion before. Frowning, the Director threw up his hands with a grumbled, "What now!", and began stalking towards the small band.

"I'm not a child," Kordath exclaimed, his face coloring as his eyes narrowed in sulky frustration, "and ... and I don't need protection."

Face scrunthing he took in the odd assembled group before settling on the doctor, "I can show you on a map but you can't go straight as the Bac-hawke flies.

"There are areas ... dangerous areas due to risk of rockslides or flash flooding ... tha, that you should avoid ... that a local guide would able to navigate you through."

OOC:
Just as an FYI, as it seems like I've not been entirely clear on the matter, but Kordath is a teenager equivalent to a 17-18 year old so still young and so still someone that you all might not want to expose to danger unnecessarily but wanted to be clear he is someone that could more or less 'handle his self'. As much as any 17-18 year old 'country boy' exposed to agriculture and hunting/fishing would be able to handle his self.

@GreyGriffin / emsquared / Furmyr - You would notice the Director has given up on getting the miners do work and is now walking towards the group, at a brisk pace, clearly annoyed.

@Knighthawke - Thalen can take the opportunity to insert his self into the conversation if he'd like, or observe from afar, or whatever but you can post his actions and/or thoughts. WELCOME! Officially to the game!
Sep 10, 2026 8:32 am
"Well, don't feel much like being buried under rock so guess you'll have to come along," Deng sighs. "Just stick in the back with me if things go sideways."

Deng realizes that if things go sideway, Kordath is probably far more prepared than him to deal with it.

Deng goes silent suddenly as he sees the director coming towards them. What now? he thinks to himself.

He move towards the director, with a forced smile on his face. "Director Dorell? Do you need something?"
Sep 10, 2026 7:01 pm
Thalen watched the, what to him seemed a rather heated, confrontation. While it seemed to be about an excursion and the need for a guide. Seeing the director beginning to rush over to most likely give some asinine answer to the question he was being asked, Thalen quickly stepped over, between Deng and the director, his hand extended in greeting.

"I believe that Director Dorell was coming over to offer you my services since he’s aware that I know my way around out in that terrain. I may not be local, but I have done a bit of guiding from time to time.

Thalen Darden, at your service."
Sep 11, 2026 2:11 am
The teen's eyes brightened as the doctor seemed to acquiesce, face turning towards the Jedi with a reluctant look of hope as Deng moved to intercept Director Dorell, only to be blocked in kind by one of the laborers, who the doctor seemed to recall was on the books as a scout.

Ignoring them both the Deputy Director of Operations, pushed past, "No. No. No!

"I already get enough complaints from the locals without you harassing one of their youths."

Stalking up to Matey and Kitichik, his frown took in the droid that clearly indicated that these situations were exactly why he was hired on in the first place. Forcing a smile he turned his attention on the Gand Jedi, "Master Jedi. It is my understanding you have developed somewhat of a rapport with the local population but perhaps you, and them, could respect the boundaries of the mining camp as I have asked our employees, particularly the more ... less refined, to respect the town's.

"Perhaps you can take your discussion elsewhere?"
To emphasize his point he turned to Matey, tilting his head towards the edge of the encampment before stalking off, pausing only to take in Deng and Thalen with an annoyed snort before returning to barking orders that were still falling on deaf ears.
OOC:
Just trying to nudge things along. Anyone of course can re-engage the Director in dialogue. Hopefully it is clear that Deng and Thalen are free to assist having more or less been released by the Director to assist.
Sep 12, 2026 12:06 am
He glanced up at Deng, and then at Matey, who both seemed to vouch for the boy. He had expressed his doubts and been gainsaid. His breath mask hissed, a punctuation mark on the conversation.

"This Gand's business will take this Gand elsewhere for the time being," he noncommitally reassured the director, who clearly just wanted to exercise some control over the situation. His gaze turned to the other human who approached them. His head inclined slightly, a somewhat awkward nod of greeting. "This Gand would welcome additional help. This group should move with haste - much time has already been lost. This Gand does not want to miss signs of what agitated the bantha." He motioned towards where the herd had come barreling in from.
Sep 14, 2026 10:06 pm
Matey's optical sensors scan Thalan, he was an unknown to the droid - though, most people in the colony or mining encampment were (unless they'd ran afoul of his duties before) - and while he looked... rough, he looked no more rough than half the mining camp population.

And immeasurably more competent.

His processors give a neutral sounding tone, indicating he is awaiting further action.
Sep 17, 2026 2:13 pm
Doing a poor job at hiding his excitement Kordath brightened at Kitichik's reluctant agreement to allow the teen to accompany the rag tag group. At the Director's departure the youth, with a hesitant glance towards Thalen, added, "We have supplies and equinoids back in town ... err ... I wouldn't attempt to explore without them.".
OOC:
Just trying to nudge things along. Anyone of course can offer their own thoughts but to review ... I spent a Destiny Point to make all technical means of transportation temporarily out of commission from the quake. Though I guess Kordath's and Reynar's speederbikes could still be used though you would be short a 'seat'

Colony Town

Adhering to the mining corporation executive's less than subtle dismissal, the rag-tag group of Jedi, mining employees, and local followed the eager Kordath back to the town, crowding aboard the only two mechanical modes of transportation left available. The strain on Reynar's already taxed speeder bike appeared to be too much as the engine groaned in protest before finally quitting in a shower of sparks, but not before making the short trip, and leaving the Twi'lek cursing and bowing out of the trek to fix the smoking machine.

Hastily the young teen received blessing to make use of the equinoids, assembled the supplies, and was leading the group out towards the large swath of torn earth, that lead off before disappearing into the distance. The four legged beasts were well trained, agile, and seemed to be just as comfortable and eager to be out of confinement as Kordath, who was practically bouncing in his saddle. Grinning at his charges as they cantered down the well beaten 'trail'.

Thalen looked a lot more comfortable once they were out of town and moving through open country. He settled into the saddle, adjusted the rifle across his back, and let his eyes wander over the torn ground ahead.

"Kid’s got the right idea," he said, mostly to himself. "Better than sitting around waiting for somebody else to figure it out."

He glanced down at the trail as they rode, then over the nearby brush and rocks. Old habit more than anything else.

"If anybody sees something strange, try not to ride over it."

That was about as much instruction as he seemed interested in giving. After that, he just fell into the ride, keeping an eye on Kordath and whatever signs the trail left behind.

The Jedi remained quiet along the trip, concentrating on the beast beneath him. He had been raised in the temple on Coruscant. Though no great pilot, he was more familiar with an air speeder than this rough creature. He could only trust that it would follow its fellows.

He hadn't had the need to stock up, trusting in the Force and his modest utility kit to provide. He didn't expect to be trekking through the wilderness for weeks, after all.

His body shifted, trying to get a view of the coming plains, hoping there would be some clue to uncover there. Raising all this ruckus with nothing to show for it would undoubtedly not go over well with the locals, and he didn't want to stir the pot any more than it had been, with the miners so on edge...

As the midday sun moved across the sky, beginning its descent to the horizon, the wide swath of trampled grass and torn earth gradually began to be replaced by rocky shale and patches of grass and scrub, the tall grass that had been undulating like ocean waves changing to small pockets of trees. The 'trail' ended at an alpine meadow, still showing strong growth that Kordath pointed out meant the banthas should not have been motivated to migrate yet with plenty of grazing available.

Unused to riding in a saddle, and in Matey's case walking a muddy trail, for such a lengthy time all except Deng felt a bit of fatigue, while still remaining mentally sharp and alert enough to catch a faint cry on the wind. Looking up, Deng and Thalen could a pair of birds circling above, the miner and sometime scout noting they were in fact a pair of large birds.

Bacrana Eagles, who as Deng and Thalen knew from their time on planet, mated and hunted as life-long pairs, though typically stayed to the high mountain peaks and passes.

"Odd," Kordath stated thoughtfully, his narrowed gaze also taking in the raptors circling above.

At the youth's comments, Kitichick followed his and the rest of his party's eyes skyward, overtaken by a sudden wave of uneasiness as he focused on the soaring birds of prey, as Thalen experienced an abrupt surge of excitement.
