"The Bear" Tavern

This is a space for talks and laughs.

A quick note: I may regularly delete posts in areas like Rules or other sections considered strictly game information, to keep things tidy.

I will be choosing a maximum of six players after we’ve discussed character creation.

Hey, thank you for the invite. This is exciting. Is this a custom game setting you created?

Also, I know they have removed alignment in the remastered version of the game, but are there any restrictions or preferences you have for character conduct in game? Just so I can better plan out the rough edges of my character, if any, as needed.
Nov 23, 2025 6:16 pm
Yes, alignment has been removed from Pathfinder 2e. Instead, characters and deities are guided by Edicts and Anathemas.
• Edicts are the actions, values, or behaviors your character (or their deity) encourages.
• Think of them as things you strive to do.
• Example: Protect the innocent, honor your ancestors, seek knowledge.
• Anathemas are the actions your character (or deity) forbids.
• Think of them as lines you must not cross.
• Example: Betray your allies, desecrate holy sites, use forbidden magic.

This is my first game here so I may be a bit rusty. Just a heads up.

Hey, glad to join another game of yours. I'm tempted to give Malthos another try, but I think i'll save him for another game and try to embrace this new one. I need to read the character creation section, but i'm thinking of doing something probably not the best, but could still be fun. I'm thinking of trying to recreate the D&D 5e eldritch knight in PF2e by playing a fighter and trying to take any wizard archetype feats I can that, at the very least, let me get spells (probably not wizard feats, as i'll still want some fighter feats).

If that is not recommended, or you'd prefer I don't do that, I might try the magus, as I hear it is a lot like what people think a spell sword can do, but has a lot more risk involved as spellstrike missing can (from what I hear) really suck as you don't just miss an attack but waste the spell slot too.
Nov 24, 2025 7:43 pm
Here is the Magus details.

You may try everything you want. To take some spells, you will need to take a dedication feat, it is more limited than a real class.

I was thinking about playing a barbarian, but just wanted to know what everyone else had as their own idea, in case we still need a healer or other niche role?

Also @YullyBear I was just wondering if you could state what sort of qualities you're looking for in your players here, or the characters. It would be kind of painful to create the perfect character for this, and then not make the cut. Should I start putting together a character right away?
Nov 24, 2025 9:12 pm
Hello to everyone.
My current idea is to make a Kineticist, most likely Earth + Fire. Though I’m thinking of switching to Wood+Fire for support and ranged, considering 3 people already plan to make melee characters.

For now, there will be no cut. I’ll be running with six players instead of four, which gives us some breathing room if one or two need to step away during the campaign.

If we reach eight or more players, I’ll split into two independent groups. So please don’t worry too much about being cut from the game.

The important choices for character creation are outlined in:

Rules → 1. Character Creation → 2nd post

And yes—we can begin creating characters now.

I see you mentioning some backgrounds in the rules section, but I don't see those when I open Pathbuuilder 2e. are they too new to be in there or are they just evocative names?
Nov 24, 2025 9:35 pm
Core material is in the Player Core Rulebook, and Core 2 is in the Player Core 2 Rulebook.

The last section is for the campaign. I haven’t had time to fill in all the information yet, so just let me know which parts interest you most and I’ll complete those first.

Some of them, like Emancipated, are on the Campaign tabs.

I’ve updated the campaign backgrounds in the Backgrounds section with their descriptions.
Nov 24, 2025 10:35 pm
I was thinking about using the following background, for my dwarf:

Local Scion: You’re from Breachill and have lived there most, if not all, of your life. You might be the son or daughter of a well-known local adventuring family, or a family with a storied tradition of military or other martial service. You likely also have some sort of skill with your hands, as the people of Breachill are very self-sufficient.

The Call for Heroes is one of your hometown’s most iconic traditions, and you want to attend so you can prove your own merits to the council—beyond simply those of your family’s name.
Boost: Strength or Intelligence + a free one.
Trained: Crafting and Breachill Lore. Feat: Specialty Crafting

It would fit him quite well, both in terms of lore and balance. My question is, are there any renowned dwarf families in Breachill that we could build this around?
Nov 24, 2025 11:53 pm
There’s no direct mention of dwarves in Breachill itself, but the town lies close to the Five Kings Mountains, the ancestral homeland of many dwarven settlements. It’s entirely reasonable that a dwarf might have traveled down from those mountains to settle in Breachill, whether for trade, diplomacy, or simply the promise of a quieter life away from the great halls.

If your character is from Breachill, you could imagine their family as one of the few dwarven households that put down roots here—perhaps stonemasons, smiths, or merchants who saw opportunity in a growing town. This gives you a strong local tie while still connecting back to the wider dwarven culture of the Five Kings.

So the races are similar to DnD, correct?

Yes. Quite similar.

https://www.aonprd.com/Races.aspx?Category=Core

The core races here are the same as 3rd edition DnD, and they are all available. If you click on other races there are a lot more. The GM did say if you want to use one of these to prepare a strong backstory to make it make sense for this campaign.
Nov 26, 2025 7:58 am
You have a complete list of race here.

You may choose any.

I'm going with a half elf fighter that will take the wizard dedication. Half elf is a human heritage, and it has an odd name but it mentions elves in your bloodline.

I plan to be a melee combatant, but I'm one of those "fill in the gap" players so if everyone wants to be melee I can adapt and either go ranged or switch to a spellcaster (which is what I normally play).
Nov 26, 2025 6:13 pm
I'm going with a Wizard Hellknight Signifier. Human from Cheliax, Order of the Gate.
Nov 26, 2025 10:52 pm
Is anyone wanting to be a healer?
Nov 26, 2025 11:03 pm
I normally would but that is what I almost always play, so I'm trying to branch out. If no one does, I can go back to old faithful (but in a different system)

As a fire+wood kineticist I could take the feat that let's me create magic apples that heal 1d4 + 1 HP. It takes 2 action to create and people must use 1 interact action to eat it, so bad for combat, but you just need too wait 10 minutes before it heals someone who eat it again.

At level 1 it's fighting for space againt a Protector Tree spell, which is the inverse, being only useful in combat to soak up damage for adjacent allies

I am willing to sacrifice the dwarf barbarian role and take up the mantle of a druid or cleric, as necessary. I don't think the kineticist healing route will be enough for such a large group, if i had to guess. Ironmonger42, I will start looking at the healing options so you just pick what you'd actually like.
Nov 27, 2025 2:03 pm
You can keep dwarf barbarian. . . upon further reflection I'm going to leave the Hellknight on the shelf for another game.

I'll pivot to the mega-caster build I'd been toying with. . . will make sure he can heal well.

It's going to be a spellbound Kobold Draconic bloodlone sorcerer- trying to decide between divine or primal spells?

Both can heal- anyone have pointers?

I am planning to try to be strong yet versatile. I plan to use the shield cantrip from lv 2 and use a bastard sword. That way I can use 1 or 2 hands based on how the rules for spellcasting come into play with the manipulate trait. I also want to try snagging strike, which makes it so if someone needs the enemy to be off guard I just need to make an attack one handed and on a hit the enemy is off guard as long as they stay within my reach and I keep the hand free, of I can grapple with the free hand. If damage is needed I can use vicious strike for 2d12+3 on a hit
Nov 27, 2025 8:21 pm
I am going with half-elf Noble fighter from Cheliax. He is a truth seeker.

Thank you, this is generous of you. I will go back to the dwarf barbarian idea, if you are sure. Unfortunately I don't have any pointers for you.. ChatGPT i imagine would be quite amazing at helping you out here though with the finer points.
Nov 28, 2025 2:49 am
Can you be a draconic sorcerer and use divine or primal spells? I thought draconic sorcerers had to be arcane. I likely don't know something that would help there. I don't know divine vs primal enough to say which is better. I think both have the heal spell which means they are roughly the same if you aren't a cleric that gets a bunch of heal spells for free.

Draconic Bloodline

Seems so- Draconic can be Arcane, Divine, Occult, or Primal based on their dragon ancestor.
