Round four, continued...

Aanbo clobbers Mok with his staff, but the Windreaper monk avoids his kicks.
Mok takes 7 non-lethal bludgeoning damage!

As Mok sways from that hit, Ember stabs him again with a swift rapier strike.
Mok takes 11 piercing damage!
As the blood sprays, Aanbo rolls his eyes and sighs; is no one listening to him?

Mok staggers, but continues to be focused on Lyrel with her flaming sword. Her teeth clack together as a punch connects with her chin.
Lyrel takes 4 bludgeoning damage!

Lyrel continues her dance of the flaming blade with Mok. It sure looks impressive how the green flames draw a curtain of flame before Mok's face. It doesn't hit him, but it continues to draw his attention.

Myrtha follows Chon, worried that Morton is taking a big risk by drawing the monk's ire but grateful that the warlock has occupied the monk's attention long enough for her to plunge her spear into his back.
Chon takes 7 piercing damage and dies impaled on Myrtha's magic spear.

Arya remains slumped on the tiles, her formerly-flawless olive skin pale in the lamplight.

Eugenios maintains his vigil over the snoozing Acolyte and watching the team go about their deconstruction of the Monks, he had to admit to himself that these guys were truly committed to the course. At this point the Wizard’s sharp eyes note that the one calling himself Mok has turned his back, so taking the opportunity Eugenios mutters the words forming a glove of ice and flicking it . . .
OOC:
Action: Cast Chill Touch
With a hit the hand grips on tight and Mok will not be able to regain HP until Eugenios next turn.
The hand grips tightly to the Monk’s left shoulder sucking at his vitality.

Hurt Morton noticed his full plan didn't process the way he totally expected but did gladly managed to take out evil Chon which was the true goal and stopped monk Chon for taking out protective Myrtha and avenged precious Arya. He can ponder later if that was really brave or foolish.

Dominic Morton is feeling his tender ribs where mean Chon fully tried to break a few of them with his powerful foot action. "We need to leave this place. Pronto" With thoughts that Arya needs time to recover.

Still minorly protective of Arya, guarding Morton moves (15') up toward the other monk Mok and again unleashes his favored demonic powers but he has paid too much attention to downed Arya while moving up protectively and his focused aim is rather foiled. Little bit of suffer in the air is all mostly happened and badly injured monk Mok survives longer.

Round four, completed

"Stinky!" Ferranzo directs his scorn at Mok. "I hear they call you the ‘the skunky monk.’ They have to fumigate the temple every time you leave it. You’re known for your odor, not your order. Your foul trail is so strong you worry about tripping over it. Watch those stained feet of yours."
Mok is concerned; nothing She ever said involved his odor. He has always taken great pains on maintaining his personal hygiene; were people really talking about him behind his back?
Mok takes 2 psychic damage.

Eugenios forms another hand chill with the cold from the grave. It's been his go-to spell for apprehending suspects for years; when he sees the opening, he forms the hand almost automatically. The hand flies across the sanctuary and clutches onto the back of Mok's neck, immediately draining the life from him. Whoops!
Mok takes 3 necrotic damage and falls to the ground, shriveled and dead.

For having survived the fight with the cultists in the sanctuary of the Temple of Merikka, each PC gains 85 XP.

The party is in the sanctuary inside the Temple of Merikka with three obviously dead bodies (Look, Chon, and Mok), one not-quite-dead body (Arya), one sleeping cleric (the acolyte), and at least one nearly-dead adventurer (Lyrel). The large jade statue of Merikka looks down on you, glimmering in the lamplight. Several tapestries adorn the granite walls. Two open doors lead off this room - one to the east and one to the west - and two closed doors are set in the southern wall on either side of the hall leading back to the entrance/exit.

"What a fucking disgrace!" the warrior exclaimed as she assessed the bloody mess around her, she withdrew the broad-sheaf steel tip of the spear from Chon’s lifeless body. Blood everywhere, Arya barely clinging to life, Lyrel badly beaten, Morton too.

"Let’s tie this smirking arsehole real good," she continued, trying to avoid Aanbo’s eyes. She felt that she’d failed: she had lost her temper after Chon had hit her hard, and rather than knocking the man down, had delivered a lethal blow. Ashamed and angry, she lashed out uselessly.

She moved to help Eugenios tie the acolyte. Caring for the wounded wasn’t her field of expertise. Killing was, definitely.

Hurt Morton offers up, "The temple here totally suspected that we were coming exactly right now! So, they will not be offguard and instead be waiting for us to proceed. This is the worst time possible to issue an attack against this well prepared temple."

"I don't understand how exactly they knew to the minute but it is obvious that they did indeed. They weren't prepared enough for how strong we were is all to our advantage but I suspect they understand better now."

As he has gone over to Arya, examining her condition and figuring on how to carry her as leaving should be pronto.

Ember sinks back against a wall, her muscles aching. She was unused to such intensive exercise. She puts away her rapier and massages her burning arms. "If we don't press our advantage, then we won't get another chance," she notes. "If they were expecting us, I would have expected a more organized and powerful defense. I think that these monks just blundered in."

This wasn't a random attack. They knew we were coming. And to the minute as that priest had a precasted spell that only last one minute. Means knew extactly when and where to attack us." (He is refuring to the sanctuary spell that the priest precasted before he entered the room.)

"We are here and must push on. I have a couple of healing potions to get us back up." Chase will help tie up the acolyte."If that was their planned defense it should be easier going from here."
Dec 24, 2025 4:44 am
Ferranzo is shaken by fury of the combat, but he's satisfied that he at least seemed to be helpful. "I'm new to you all and new to this kind of fighting, but I think we should keep moving. We're inside now and if we can just find and rescue prisoners, that's good enough for me. My cousin is counting on me... I just know it."

"By the way, I can do a healing spell, but then I won't have an attack if we need it. Your call."
Dec 24, 2025 11:42 am
Eugenios looks around as the final Monk falls, his eyes darting to all the entrances to the hall. The Elf Sorcerer had a point this seemed to be a planned defensive action, maybe they had been spotted upon entry. He put his dagger away and waited to someone to assist him with the sleeping Acolyte. "I have a feeling you are right , they did seem ready, but to disengage now would put us at a greater disadvantage and would give them time to destroy evidence or move anyone they may have imprisoned. I have a spell or two I can utilise, so I vote we move on." He looks at the group, "Maybe a short delay may work in our favour, time builds tension and indiscipline."

Eugenios will search the acolyte as he is tied up.

Chase and Myrtha hog tie the acolyte, using another 6' of rope (Myrtha has 19' of rope remaining), holding him down as he comes awake. Eugenios searches the man as he struggles against his bonds with wide-eyed fear. Aside from his robe and sandals, the man has some prayer beads around his neck. His left arm has been branded with the spiral symbol high up on his biceps; the scar has mostly healed, suggesting either that he was healed with magic (the livid spear puncture scar on both sides of unconscious Arya's neck looks somewhat similar, though not as raised as the man's scar) or that he was burned weeks ago.

FYI: Healing potions are always 2d4+2. Stronger healing potions are called something else.

OOC:
The PCs absolutely don't realize it, but you as players should all remember that the priestess perceived something as soon as she opened the doors and then went back in to the temple.

Eugenios cuts away the man’s sleeve in order to get an excellent view of the scaring/tatoo, pulling out his issue notebook to make sketches and make an entry. As he does so he searches his memory for any recognition.

Chase quaffs all of one healing potion. He has one remaining.
Chase regains 6 HP.

Eugenios forces the struggling man down and saws at his clothing, cutting off the sleeve of his robe to get an unobstructed view of the captive's mutilated biceps. Ignoring the man's terrified pleas, the gnomish investigator unrolls a sheaf of parchment papers, finds one that isn't already full of notes, and begins to sketch the spiral symbol. The others - most of whom are by now intimately familiar with the spiral symbol of the cult themselves - watch impassively.

Time passes as the party watches him draw.

Ferranzo, eager to get moving, has an uneasy feeling about… something.

"Excuse me." He grabs the torn sleeve of the acolyte off the floor and runs behind the statue.
OOC:
If Ferranzo has more time to do more, let me know.
Dec 29, 2025 3:37 am
Eugenios leans onto the Acolyte to stop him squirming as much as possible, "Stop moving," he says calmly then without letting this attention, "The rest of you check the doors and choose a way to go, we are in this now."
