Who let the frogs out? (RP)

Nefydd

Nefydd is an amateur conjurer and street kid. His talents were limited and he never caught the attention of anyone willing to teach him magics, so he fell into a life of petty crime (drop a summoned imp through a skylight, type deal).

If a known magician (even a one-trick-pony like Chaudry) has taken Nefydd under their wing, you will have a nearly impossible time convincing him to betray his mentor.

The demon disappears in a swirl of foul smoke. Max rears her head and howls in triumph. She wouldn't have hesitated to kill it but driving it off alive seemed like the superior option. She wasn't sure why, but it seemed a nobler path. And who knows? Maybe it would warn its comrades in hell not to intrude on her territory without a ready explanation.

The day hadn't been going well. She had made some progress on the hellhound but had only seemed to run into even more difficulties. But now she had run into a problem that she could solve and promptly solved it.

It was catharsis.

Her fur begins to recede into fair flesh. Her limbs twist and turn into a bipedal form. Nude, she rises to two legs, her mouth still dripping with black blood.

"That... that tasted fuckin' foul," she complains, addressing no one in particular. "Now where's my fuckin' duffel, I need my toothbrush." She glances around quickly, then her features twist into a scowl. "Did not one of you think to bring my fuckin' stuff with ya? I swear, if someone nicked my fuckin' clothes, I'm goin' right back to wolf and tearin' out somebodies throat."

She glances to Emma on her phone for a long moment and then addresses who she feels is the most replaceable member of their little group.

"Benji! Fetch my fuckin' threads and my duffel! If anything got nicked I'm holdin' you responsible pal!"

Her eyes turn to Nefydd and she slowly approaches him, wondering if he's a face she recognizes.

"Oh! Right, yes, of course!" Benji had been feeling a bit useless, dithering about while Max and Persephone confronted the demon and its master, so he quickly scurries off to fetch Max’s clothes and things, happy to be helpful.

Persephone pulls away, her eyes red from sobs, which subside as she listens to Nefydd reply. Her traumatized face twisted into a rage.

"Cowdry? COWDRY? You know god damn well who I'm talking about! You wanna side with people like him? Huh‽ People that murder women and desecrate their corpses? DO YOU?!"

She punches him as hard as she can in the throat.

"We beatin' the shit out of lil' Nefydd now? I'm in." As Max finishes approaching, she stomps on Nefydd's exposed hand hard and painfully, crunching it underfoot to ensure he can't lift it in defense of himself.

Emma looked up from her phone when she heard Max's voice again. She ended up staring at her body for longer than she meant to. There was a sort of a wild grace to her, as she stood there, naked, under the rain. Unashamed. Free. She brushed a strand of wet hair behind her ear as she mumbled something, still looking at her rather than turning to search for her clothes.

And then Max and Persephone were raining down blows on Nefydd, and all she could do was watch her with rapt fascination. There was something mesmerizing about it. It was brutal, but there was some terrible beauty in it too. Like watching a leopard tear into a gazelle.

Only Nefydd wasn’t a delicate and graceful animal she could feel sorry for. He was filth, and Emma wasn’t the most empathic person to begin with. The thought of helping him didn't once cross her mind. He was no longer a person to her. He wasn’t human. It felt like watching a scene out of National Geographic, and she was lucky enough to have front seats.

She watched his face twist with pain. The bloody gurgling from his throat. The sound of his bones cracking and breaking. There was a part of her that couldn't help but think how good this would be for her book. How lucky she was to be there, to observe all the little details that would make this scene so visceral and real when she sits down to write it.

You thankfully find Max's items untouched, so you don't need to find out if her unreasonable threats were serious. You do miss most of the events going on and don't have to witness the beatings.

Over by the entrance you hear the squawk and chatter of police radios, someone has called it in and they are here to check out what is happening.

You don't recall the name 'Cowdry', and might not have heard the talk of 'Chaudry' while you were wrestling with your demon, but if you did you might recognise it?
OOC:
When Chaudry is revealed/mentioned, you can Put a Face to a Name [ref] if you think you will know anything about them, which is likely. They are also Power. They are another street-level magician, known mainly for summoning.

As he begins gathering up Max’s discarded clothes, Benji hears the distant crackling chatter of the police radio and freezes, panicked. What should he do? Should he try to distract them or go warn his friends? If he tries to intercept the police, should he leave Max’s stuff here so that she can come get it? But what if someone steals it? She said she would hold him responsible...

Making up his mind, he hastily stuffs Max’s clothes into her duffel bag, slings it over his shoulder, and hurries toward the sound, hoping to misdirect the police and buy his friends some time.

"Oh, thank goodness!" he says, as soon as he sees any police officer. "You’re here about the dog attack, I assume?"

"Morning, sir. Did you call it in?" The lead cop asks, their partner scanning the area carefully. You are far enough away that they can not hear the violence being enacted on poor, defenceless Nefydd until they proceed further into the park.

You can't know this, but your words 'dog attack' carry especial weight today. The police are responding to reports of a large dog running the park, but also linking that to a violent killing they are investigating.

What do you do?
OOC:
Maybe roll Mislead, Distract, and Trick to see how long you can misdirect the cops and how much time you buy your friends. On a 10+, presumably, • you confuse them for some time and buy your friends all the time they need, and • you create an opportunity to get free to get Max's clothes (and gun, which you don't want to have found) back to her, and • you avoid further entanglement so as to not have them remember you as someone who interfered.

On a lesser Hit you will have to pick which option you don't get.

In Our Blood might apply, though you may need to substantiate it by being a bit more 'clever' than just "they went thataway". :)
Oct 30, 2025 1:33 am
"No, but I chased after it and I saw where it went, if you’d like me to show you," Benji offers.
OOC:
Benji is planning to tell the cops that he saw the ‘dog’ run down into the railway tunnels via the entrance near Byron’s statue (the one with the gate Benji broke open). He’s hoping that will keep them distracted for a bit and give him an opportunity to get away and get back to his friends while the police are in the tunnels. I don’t really know that that’s clever enough for In Our Blood… Shall I just roll a normal Mislead?
Oct 30, 2025 10:45 am
Benji leads the police over to Byron’s traffic island where a set of stairs leads down to the Underground. The stairs are protected from trespassers by a metal cage, but the gate has been forced open from the inside and now hangs open.

"It ran down there, but I didn’t think I should follow it any further," he explains, pointing down the stairs.

It takes a few minutes to take the cops out of the park and to the Byron statue. This buys your friends ample time to get away... but, since you are carrying them, deprives Max of her clothes and effects, maybe she can borrow something to cover up with till you are done 'assisting the police with their investigation'.

There is a traffic accident collision at the nearby juncture of Constitution Hill and Duke of Wellington, but the police with you dismiss it as 'just a fender bender'.

The recently-broken-open gate attracts their attention and they have many questions for you while waiting for BTP (British Transport Police) as they are not allowed down on the tracks (or tunnels) without appropriate escorts or training (you know how dangerous the tracks can be, setting aside great black dogs, there is exposed electricity and high-speed trains).

The bobbies from around Hyde Park start to converge on your location —this being the first real, actionable, lead they have had in their case— buying your friends even more freedom to get away.

Persephone realizes that if she keeps this up, she will kill this ass on the ground, and that won't get he any closer to finding Chaudry. Her punches stop and she simply stand up from atop him and says, "You disgust me. If I ever EVER see you summoning demons again, I will finish the job, scum." He breath is ragged but gradually slows.

She watches as he flees like the frightening fool he is. She turns to Max and says, "Um... So. Werewolf, huh? I don't suppose you can... uh... track him to his base? Or to Chaudry or whatever?"

She exhales in a sigh. Then she turns back to Max and asks, "So, like, does the moon do anything? What about silver bullets? Oh, is that a personal question? "
Oct 30, 2025 8:44 pm
Max nods once. "As a matter of fact, I think I can." She grips Persephone's wrist and brings her bloodied fist up an inch away from her nose and inhales deeply. Then she nods once. "Yeah... he ain't escapin' this nose. And Chaudry? Sendin' someone to spy on my territory, summonin' demons to rub salt in the insult? I've decided I'm helping you take him down."

She glances around irritably. "Where the fuck's Benji with my threads? I can't just streak around all of fuckin' London." She sighs, wipes some demon blood from her mouth, and spits. Then she picks up the demon's discarded trenchcoat and wraps it around herself. "Now I'll smell like demon for the next three showers," she complains. "But the trail isn't gonna wait. Let's go."

She begins stalking Nefydd, neck hunched, constantly sniffing at the air. She speaks to Persephone as she hunts. "Yeah, I actually do need the moon to transform. At least for when it's voluntary. That's why we'll have to strike at night. As for silver, on a scale of nobodies bothered to explain it to me, to I really don't want to find out, I'd have to say, hell if I know."

Emma snapped back to her senses when Pers allowed Nefydd to go. She was sorta sorry to see him scurry away like a rat, but she guessed it was for the best.

"I should get going, before the police gets here" she mumbled. She wasn't going to join them on their hunt for Chaudry; it was dangerous, she had nothing to contribute, and she didn't want to be tied up in the aftermath; Chaudry wasn't working alone, it seems, and she still didn't know how tight he was with the Ivy club, or if he was even a full member.

But that didn't mean she would bat an eye if something happened to him

"Give him hell" she squeezed Pers's hand, then gave Max a short, thin smile "Nice meeting you"

"Is everything alright, sir?" The cop asks, the inherent suspicion of all coppers amplified by your nervous ticks and desire to be gone from here. "My supervisor will want to have a word with you, if you don't mind hanging around a bit." They add, not really making it sound like you are being given a choice.

The English have an aversion to being asked for papers, and almost no one carries identity documents —often not even a driver's licence— so, while they asked for your name, this group has no way of verifying it as we stand.

"Oh, I’m just running a little late for something," Benji explains, forcing himself to stop fidgeting although it’s probably a bit late for that now that he’s already drawn their suspicion. "I’m supposed to be meeting some friends and I’m pretty sure one of them’s going to be quite cross with me if I don’t get there soon..."
