Who let the frogs out? (RP)

"Jim?"

She straightened a little when she realized it really was him. She had been carrying the paper bag in her hand for over an hour now, and it had already turned soft and soggy from the rain. The fries and burger were cold by now, and wet, and she suddenly felt ridiculous holding it, let alone offering it to him.

It made her uncomfortable that he knew where to find her. She did make a dozen calls earlier to homeless shelters, asking questions about Sarah, so maybe word got out to him before she ever set out looking for him?

She didn't say anything for a moment, then nodded "Yea...I was looking for you"

Pulling her phone out of her pocket, she looked for a photo of Sarah. She held her breath as she stepped closer to him, and held up her phone so he could have a better look: "Have you seen her? Her name is Sarah. She's been missing for a few days now"

Whatever chose that precise moment to create such a racket was certainly convenient, and you Owe them a Debt of gratitude for picking that timing. You can only hope everyone is OK down there, and that none of your friends are in trouble. The cops are distracted enough that you can easily slip away, but you do tend to make a bit of an impression, with your anachronistic clothing and manner and such, and it would not be at all hard for them to identify you again later if it ever comes to that.

It is not hard to sniff out Persephone, but Max's whereabouts are not obvious right now.

What do you do?

"That's what they call me." Slippery Jim says, which is a lie, they call him 'slippery'... for a reason. He shuffles closer as you hold up your phone, not acknowledging the cold and soggy takeaway bag in the slightest.

"'Missing'? You don't say? Is that what we are calling it these days?" He says, suggesting he knows a lot more about the conditions under which Sarah 'went missing' from your flat.

"I haven't seen her." He says, but there is something in his statement that indicates this is just the start of your negotiations.

What do you do?

Emma didn’t flinch when Jim stepped into her personal space, close enough to stand under her umbrella. It sounded like he did know Sarah was missing, and perhaps more than he was letting on, and she was starting to wonder what it would take to loosen his tongue:

"Do you know where she is? Or anyone who does?"

Persephone texts the address of the nearest public place it would make sense to meet at that isn't the Lanesborough--a coffee shop, bar, restaurant, etc... even a retail store would work.

She scans the area for Max and Benji. If she doesn't see them, she texts the address she will meet Viv at to both of them as well.
OOC:
Can se SEE that Benji is slipping away, and can she see Max? I assume Benji has Max's clothes. Otherwise, I could go by the Landsborough, see if they have my clothes, and give some to Max?

Benji spots Persephone walking along Knightsbridge and hurries after her. "Persephone! Do you know where Max is?" he asks as soon as he catches up with her. "I have her clothes. Also, I think the hellhound might be attacking someone in the Underground back there, which seems like the sort of thing Max would want me to tell her. It will be difficult to intervene though, what with all the police swarming around over there."

"Slippery Jim knows lots of things." Slippery Jim says, not admitting he knows these things. "What's it to you?"

Your enquiries have forced him to come out in this weather, and, while he is curious about you, he is not a charity...

What do you do?

"I'm looking to find her" she found herself stating the obvious, at his insistence, "What would it take for you to help me?"
Nov 9, 2025 6:38 am
Persephone waves to Benji and says, "Oh good! You have Max’s stuff! Quick let’s get this stuff back to her. It has her clothes, but I think also her phone."

She takes the bag and heads back to Max and delivers her stuff. Then she says, "Ok I gotta meet my, uh, a girl I’m seeing. For work. And she wants to come along to see us get vengeance on Choudry. Let’s all go together, yeah?"

Then she heads to the location she had texted Viv, inviting Benji and Max to come with.

Max sighs in relief when she gets her clothes back, snatching the duffel bag away from Benji. "What the fuck took you so long Benji? You stop for margaritas?" She tears off the summoned demon's trenchcoat and throws it over Benji's face. "Here, hold that up just in case all of London hasn't figured out whether or not the carpet matches the drapes." She hastily gets dressed in her damp clothes, panties and bra first, followed by faux leather outfit. When she's done, she nods. "You uh, got work to do? Well, so do I. I gotta see where Nefydd's headed and then whack him before he can report to Chaudry. How 'bout you Benji? Wanna come with?"

Persephone's eyes unintentionally glance downward at Max's words and then she forces herself to look away to give Max a little privacy. Once she's dressed and speaking of tracking Nefydd, Persephone looks back at her and nods, replying, "OK, text me if you find Chaudry and I will go there immediately. Please."

Once they are finished discussing plans, she intends to head to meet with Viv.

Benji pulls the trenchcoat off his head and holds it up in front of Max as she dresses, politely averting his eyes. "Sorry! Someone called the police—about you, I think—and I was trying to lead them away from you all, but then they wouldn’t let me leave! I only got away because something started making an awful lot of noise in the Underground and distracted them all. I think it could be that hellhound you’re after, actually, but even if it is, it would be very hard to do anything about it right now. There are police all over the place over there."

When Max asks if he wants to come along on her hunt, he hesitates. "When you say you’re going to ‘whack him’…?"
Nov 9, 2025 10:18 pm
Max nods to Persephone. "Got it. Remember though, we gotta wait until tonight to do this."

She sighs audibly and tiredly at Benji's explanation. "So, you fucked with the pigs. How'd that work out for ya, Benji? Nah, I get the picture. Lemme give you some advice. I'm a career fucking criminal, I know the bobbies back and forth, and even I don't fuck with 'em except as a last resort. A guy like you doesn't have what it takes. Just don't mess with the pigs, eh?"

She waves for Benji to follow her and explains as she walks. "So by whack him, I mean we're gonna let him go to his master, and say 'Hey Daddy Chaudry, a vampire, a best-selling author, the only werewolf in London, and oh, the chick you successfully killed all beat the crap out of me, help me!' Nah, we're killin' him and letting Chaudry get his answers from his corpse. I trust you don't have any objections?"

At Benji's description of the noise in the tunnel, Persephone smiles with pride and says, "Ah, that may have been my doing. I saw you stuck with the police and I called my people and asked them to stage a distraction so you could get away. A few moments later, the ...whatever it was happened."

As Max talks, Persephone can't help but smirk. She's clearly impressed with the criminal and more than a little attracted. She nods and says, "Nefydd seemed to have trouble working with a guy who tricks and murders innocent young women, so I won't she day tears over him. But..." And she turns to Max, her voice getting serious. She continues, saying, "I don't care about Nefydd, but I MUST find Chaudry. I'd rather he lead us to Chaudry than kill the guy before he can do so, you know?"
Nov 10, 2025 3:32 am
Max holds up a hand of acknowledgement and nods quickly. "Don' worry, we're on the same page. I'm gonna let him lead me right to Chaudry's doorstep before I waste him. Gotta be really precise about it. Could use a partner." Her eyes drift to Benji meaningfully.
Nov 10, 2025 4:12 am
Benji frowns. The idea of hunting down and killing Nefydd is enticing in a way that troubles him. It appeals very much to his baser predatory instincts and those are instincts he tries not to feed, if he can help it.

Besides, he’s not at all convinced the boy deserves to die, just for being friends with Chaudry. Technically, Max and Persephone are friends with a murderer too, although it doesn’t seem like a good idea to point that out to them right now.

"I’ll help if you want me to, Max, but… do we really need to kill him? I understand the necessity of preventing Nefydd from warning Chaudry, but perhaps we could just knock him out and hold him captive somewhere until we’ve dealt with Chaudry."

"Well, yes."Slippery Jim keeps the exasperation out of his voice. You were looking for him, so he figured you had something to offer, but he is clearly reminding himself that you are new... though that excuse is getting old.

"Sure. I know where she went." He says, his use of 'went' rather than 'is' heavily suggesting he also knows she went there from here, from your place.

"Tell you what." He says, as though this is the natural progression of the friendly conversation. "You're a swanky, fancy lady. If I help you, maybe you can put in a good word for me with them?" You are starting to get a feel for how the supernatural world works, and he seems to be 'asking' —in a non-optional way— for an 'introduction' to whoever has Sarah...

This, along with his observation of 'fanciness', suggests she is not in a homeless shelter, but instead somewhere much more 'swanky'. There is a mystery here, how she could have left your place and landed in such a setting is a puzzle.

What do you do?

So Slippery Jim did know where Sarah wandered off to, which didn't sound anything like a homeless shelter. She was curious, and took a moment to look at him properly. The grimy coat, yellow fingernails, the stench...they would probably be turned away from anywhere other than a back alley dumpster, looking the way he does.

But he had the information she needed.

Maybe I could buy him some new clothes. Clean him up a little. Maybe a haircut. Not anything I can do for his teeth though...

She took a step back to study him, and get away from the stench.

What choice did she have?

"I’ll be happy to" she finally said, "but first, let's get you out of those clothes"
Nov 10, 2025 5:00 am
Persephone shrugs and replies,"I don’t care about the kid. Yeah, he’s made some bad choices and was disgustingly callous about me getting murdered by his friend. But it’s his friend that I want. I wanna turn him into Hellhound food like he did to me."
Nov 10, 2025 2:40 pm
Max considers Benji's reservations for a moment and then shakes her head. "Nah, it ain't gonna work Benji. I know you like to be the friendly neighborhood Nosferatu, but if we're gonna transport him, dead or alive, we'd need a car, and I don't have one. Without that we're basically just asking to be taken in by the pigs."
