Benji quietly drinks his blood in the car, watching the tense exchange between Circe and Persephone with wide eyes. He shoots Circe a sympathetic look and almost offers that she could stay at his flat for the night, if she needed, but after Persephone’s comments, he worries she might take that the wrong way. Besides, the way she keeps uneasily glancing at him and his blood suggests that she probably wouldn’t have felt safe staying in a vampire’s flat anyway.

He greets Yasmine just as warmly when she emerges from the back, glad for some better company after the chilly car ride. He gently takes her hands and reciprocates the gesture, so well fed and sleepy at this point that putting his face in such proximity to her neck doesn’t bother him at all. "Yes, of course! But another time, perhaps. Persephone’s problem is more pressing." He ushers Persephone forward so that she can show Yasmine the mark.

For a moment, her eyes wandered over Max's shoulder as she searched the waiting room for Charles. But only for a moment. Her gaze snapped back, suddenly attentive, when she mentioned something about 'the real stuff'

"Real doesn’t always mean good" she said wistfully "At least not when it comes to stories" she quickly added, though it didn't sound like she meant only that, "Do you know much about 'Faeries'?"
Sep 8, 2025 4:01 pm
Persephone tilts her head to the side, almost like a cat, and returns the look.

She nods and follows Benji, saying, "Well, it is more of a sigil, I think. I don't know if ink and needles were used. And It is rather useful to suppress all of my messy emotions, so I am still uncertain it is regrettable, thank you very much. Before I received this, my fool of a sister was about to have me committed for hysteria or some other 19th C nonsense."

- Persephone -

"Well, you were acting hysterical." Circe mutters under her breath, she is till a little salty about how you are treating her.

"You do not know how you got it?" Yasmine asks, staying out of the family drama if she heard your sister.

"Did you loose time? Or did it just appear?" She asks, which is a slightly unusual question out of the blue. "You want me to take a look?" She has not asked about your 'messy emotions', but she eyes you in a slightly funny way that suggests she may see some traces of your resurrection-ordeal.

What do you do?
Sep 8, 2025 5:40 pm
"Yeah, you got that right," says Max ruefully, touching her stomach where she was bitten unconsciously. "I guess you just have to take the good with the bad. She blinks suddenly. Oh, how rude of me, forgot to introduce myself! Maxine Harvey, but just call me Max, that's what everyone does. And uhh... I don't really know any more about faeries than the next guy. They've been gone from London since before my time, so who can really say that they do?"

She brightens as though a thought just occurred to her. "Hey, maybe you'd like to continue this conversation over a coffee, beer, or other beverage of your preference? Ah, maybe that came out wrong, you're a married woman after all, I did read the author blurb in the back. Lemme just give my card, eh? If you feel like chatting, give me a ring."

Max hands Emma a business card she produces out of her jacket. It's suspicious in the extreme since it says nothing about her credentials, experience, or job, it simply has her name on the front, and a phone number on the back.
Sep 8, 2025 6:02 pm
"A pleasure to meet you, Max. I would be more than happy to talk more some other time" her thoughts were already drifting back to her sick husband, and she couldn't wait to get back home to him. She accepted the card when she offered it to her, the lack of detail not surprising her in the least. In fact, she had a couple of cards just like that - with nothing more than a name on them, if even that. Those who lived in the shadows rarely volunteered more about themselves than was absolutely necessary, she found.

She reached to her side, then, remembering something, frowned to herself as she realized she had nowhere to put the card at. She ended up pulling her phone out instead, snapping a picture of both sides of the card before handing it back "Thank you" she forced a smile to her lips "That way I won't lose it"

Nodding to Dr. Moss, she said her farewell before heading to the waiting room:
"Thanks again, Dr. Moss. I'll be waiting for your call"

"Call?" Moss says, clearly lost in thought. "Oh, yes. I have some ideas already. I need to consult my books. I will give you a call tomorrow."

"So?" Dr Moss says, looking intently in your direction and possibly seeing something interesting. "You need 'a consultation'?" He completely misses Blossom's desperate attempts to wave him away from the topic, he does not know anything about you, but seems interested.

"The doctor needs to rest." Blossom interjects, and he does indeed look exhausted, but he smiles indulgently and poo-poos her concern.

"Pish posh." He says.

"I'm looking forward to it. And to talking with you again, Maxine" she gave them both a warm smile before stepping into the waiting room, where her father in law was waiting. It was only as she crossed the room toward him that she realized that her crutches were still standing propped against the counter where she left them, and that he couldn't have missed how easily she was walking without them.

"Hi" she bit her lip, flustered about how she was ever going to explain this "Emmm..thank you for waiting for me this whole time. I think we can go now"
Sep 8, 2025 7:03 pm
"Please, call me Max," says Max warmly as Emma departs. "Have a good rest of your evening Mrs. Harper."

She turns to the Doctor with a smile. "Ah, your lovely associate was just about to schedule a consultation for me regarding a wound. She was explaining that you might not be able to help, but she was generous enough to allow that you take a look nonetheless."

"But you really do look tired, Doctor. You can get all the details from her after you've had a breather, I'm sure."

"All fixed up?" Charles asks, noting that you are walking without pain but not yet twigging on to the significance of the lack of crutches. He picks up his book from beside his empty tea cup on the table next to him and slips it into his coat pocket.

"They seem nice." He observes as he offers you his arm for support, just as he did when you arrived home. "Was it grueling?" He asks sympathetically, he is walking a little stiffly, his legs asleep from the hours of sitting, but you feel energetic and rejuvenated.

"Very well. If you are not in a lot of pain." Dr Moss says. He sounds a tad relieved, but he seems a bit of a pushover and it would be easy to take advantage of him... if not for his fierce protector.

"They were nice. And it wasn’t that bad, really. I’m just glad it’s done and over with." She fell into step beside him as they moved toward the door, her hand brushing his arm lightly. She scooped up the crutches on her way out, carrying them rather than using them, and her umbrella from the stand before they walked out of the clinic

"I still want to pick up my purse" she smiled at him apologetically "They gave me the security guard’s address. I can drop you off at home first, if you want, or you’re welcome to come with me. It's not a terribly long drive"
Sep 8, 2025 7:41 pm
Max smiles again. "I'll see you soon Doctor. Have a fine evening." She ushers Blossom back to the reception area so she can schedule her appointment, and if that goes off without a hitch, she says her goodbyes and begins the walk to her 'home.'

Persephone glances at Circe and decides not to snark back--this time. When Yasmine asks for details, she shrugs and says, "Hmm, let's see, I may as well give you the larger context, and in the absence of any direct instructions to keep such events a secret, I shall share what I know, in case such information is useful to you. My soul is contracted to a demon some call the Whispered One. A week ago, my friends abandoned me in the midst of a cult sacrifice and a cultist stabbed me several dozen times in the chest and torso with a large knife, after which a hellhound tore me to pieces and, ostensibly, consumed me. I awoke in a meeting with my Patron, which was less informative than I might have liked. I shall not complain, however, for my Patron returned me to the living, into a fully intact body. I was not so well-reassembled in mind, however, and had a breakdown. My loving sister had me committed, but my Patron had me removed from that situation, somehow teleporting me to my condo. I had some time lost there, and it was upon my arrival at my condo that this mark was to be found on my back, and its effects in place--namely, the absolute suppression of my emotions, including empathy and, I am now discovering, fear. I would have feared to share such detail with you prior to this, but now? It is all simply a matter of factual record."

She crosses her arms and looks Yasmine in the eye. She confronts her, saying, "I came here once before and asked indirectly about demonic contracts and you were less than helpful. I am not even certain if removing this mark is something desirable. Nevertheless, I would hear your thoughts; can you remove it and should I allow you to do so? I will take your suggestions under consideration."

"It's no problem." Charles says, maybe he is being gallant, but maybe he is not overly eager to return to the flat and to the tension over there. "Where are we going?" He asks, clearly thinking he is still driving. He offers to carry your crutches so you can manage the umbrella.

It takes a little while to get back across town, but at least there is space in Llewis' flat's visitor's parking lot. The car should be safe, even though it is not the best neighbourhood. Charles opens his door, intent on helping you and keeping you safe.

Moss and Blossom take the statement: 'I'll see you soon' rather differently. Blossom is a bit reticent to give a hard date for an appointment, saying that 'the doctor may take a few days to recover' and suggesting deciding tomorrow.

There is a few hundred in the petty cash box. Blossom again offers it to you in the hope it will stave off your return tomorrow.

Yasmine listens to your tail. She seems to take special note of your mention of the name, though this is unlikely to be a 'true name' she can use for anything binding.

She also seems interested in the parts about the hellhound, and interrupts you briefly to enquire about whether you think being 'consumed' was related to your transportation —she is disappointed when you get the part about being teleported out of hospital as this indicates you were not 'shat out into hell'.

"You actually met with your patron?" She asks, as though this would be a highly unusual occurrence, and you are reminded about the whole 'Dude' smokescreen. "But, no. I do not expect they would be at all informative. Sharing information is not characteristic."

She seems very impressed that you were returned to life. This is kind of a big deal, apparently, just as one would expect it to be. Yasmine looks on you with renewed appreciation, and a little trepidation about what this might mean, but she does not make a show of it.

"No. Somehow I doubt your mind's wholeness is of much importance. Not if it can be paved over with a patch." She does not comment, but you get the impression she might have thoughts about the 'value' of having demons reconstruct your psyche for you.

She is impressed by the amount of power required to teleport a person from one place to another, this probably being less than that needed for resurrection —though it is hard to quantify that— and she asks some questions about 'distances and elevations'.

"'Fear' is an important part of being human." She points out. "It serves a purpose, it keeps us from doing foolish things." She does not comment on the inherent foolishness of making deals with demons, nor on how fear often plays a role in when such deals are offered, be it fear of loss or some other fear. "Maybe remind yourself to think twice before you make any decisions you might have been wary of before? Mm."

She bristles slightly when you denigrate her previous helpfulness, she feels her advice and offer of further help was very generous, especially given how little you shared and that you offered nothing in return, but she does not say anytyhing.

"Better take a look at this tattoo." She says when you are done.

If you allow her, she sorts through the variety of glasses hanging around her neck on strings, peering at the mark through one after the other, and even through more than one pair at a time, sometimes turning them as though to create diffusion patterns or polarisation or something. After a while she pokes and prods at it, going 'hmm...'

"You. Sister." She says, not having gotten Circe's name. "Make her angry." This is said in a scientific manner, as though it is a controllable thing that Circe can do like the flip of a switch.

"What? How?" Circe says sullenly. This has not been nearly as exciting as she thought it might be.

What does Circe to that would have irritated you if not for the patch?

Max is genuinely offended by Blossom's offer, and it shows on her face. "Blossom. Come on, work with me here. I am not some petty thug demanding that you empty your register. I am the protector of this neighborhood, and a professional. As such, I only accept payment in full." She gives Blossom a stern look. "Tomorrow. Have the money and my appointment ready. I'll be by to settle things." She flashes a smile. "Don't worry my dear, it'll be painless."
Sep 9, 2025 2:29 pm

Blossom does not have the guts to say what she thinks about your thug-denial. She merely agrees to postpone it till tomorrow, not believing the claim that it will be painless.

You are not making a brilliant impression as a 'protector'. What you do with Jack the Merc will have important implications going forward.
