Harrigan says:

When did he first draw blood? Thalen was there with him.
A brigand was waylaying villagers on the road, but you decided to put an end to his robbery. +2 CON, Knack: Resilience.
Thalen traveled with me for two weeks, hunting the thief down (he gains +1 CON).

I remember that. It rained most of the time, and several times we thought we lost the thief's trail. Sleeping on the ground was rough, but I believe we both grew up a little and became tougher. What an adventure!

I guess I'll take:
The Druidic Arts
The character receives a +2 bonus to casting rolls for cantrips and rituals when outside of a dwelling and within a forest, as well as to rolls to gather herbs, tend trees, or otherwise interact directly with woodlands.

And Ophira is Neutral, but for her that means that is the balance between stasis and change; all things change in the cycle of nature, life, and death.

Two quick things -- I haven't quite finalized Gaelan in terms of rerolls and choosing an override selection, but I should get that done tomorrow.

Second, where are these traits from? One of the later books?

Yep, they are from Further Afield. There might be others sprinkled in to other supplements though.

I'll take Impossible Perseverance for my trait.

Rolling for starting silver: 15

Buying leather armor for 5 silver and holding onto the remaining 10.

I was so excited while I was finishing up my character that I rolled the dice for silver using physical dice. I got 14.

Bought
- Leathers (+2 AC)
- Bow
- Rations x5

No money left over.

Guess I should roll for silver and then buy some gear. Here's the sliver roll...

What do we do about languages?

Yes, most of the traits are from Further Afield (that introduces this optional rule), but Heroes Young and Old and A Kingless Realm also adds a couple of traits as well. I figured it would be most convenient to just gather all of them together, so nobody has to go digging through a bunch of sourcebooks.

Right, everyone is assumed to know the common tongue of the area. You get additional languages equal to your Int modifier.

As for types of languages, the game itself keeps it very vague, but halflings, dwarves and elves all have their own languages. The Fae also have their own language (similar to the elven language, but different enough to be its own option). In addition, I'll throw in two others that can be picked:

Barcur: An informal hodgepodge of a language, a trader's tongue often used by merchants, sailors and various travellers.

Rispina: The Holy Tongue. Not very commonly spoken, but all sacred texts are written in it. More common in the kingdoms to the south.

@Aline, do you wish to choose the name for the old, fallen kingdom of sorcerer-queen Theune? That language might be dead, but her ghost would certainly speak it, and it may still be found in written form on old ruins in the area.

Sorry about the delay in responses, GP's been very unreliable for me these past two days.

Beric's Trait is The King's Touch (magical healing by laying on hands).

This is ironic, because Beric's least favorite chore for the witch was helping her tend to the sick. Apparently the witch knew he had the potential to be a healer before he did. She tried to make his gift emerge by making him help with the sick, but that didn't work. His gift emerged later when the witch's raven broke a wing. Beric healed it, and now the raven his his close companion.

Long couple of days at work, but back to it.

Gaelan will take:

Great Bravery
While this character certainly becomes frightened, she will not back down because of fear. The character automatically passes any saving throw or ability score check related to fear.

And his final rolls / selections for this phase:

Where did he practice his skill at arms?
A real knight came to town and he rode with him for a while. +3 CHA, skill: Etiquette

What is his preferred fighting style?
Relentless attacks — Battleaxe. +2 STR, Battleaxe Weapon Specialization

When did he first draw blood? Thalen was there with him.
A brigand was waylaying villagers on the road, but you decided to put an end to his robbery. +2 CON, Knack: Resilience.
Thalen traveled with me for two weeks, hunting the thief down (he gains +1 CON).

Now that he is ready, how will he seek his fortune?
He will visit distant lands and tirelessly seek adventure along the way. +2 CON, gains a lodestone.

(Didn’t like my reroll; not using the override.)

Rolls

Silver - (4d6)

(6154) = 16

It looks like everyone's just about done with their character sheets. I'm going to take a day or so to hammer out some details now that I know all the characters, and then we'll start the actual game up!
Jul 17, 2025 3:17 pm
Woo hoo! Here we go!
Jul 17, 2025 4:35 pm
Aye, excited. Finishing touches on my sheet; anyone know what unarmed damage looks like? With a dagger and club at 1d4, I’m thinking it must be in that classic OSR range of a single point, 1d2 or 1d3, but not seeing that called out in the book.

Language: The Royal Script
The ancient kings and queens ruled as tyrants. Their powerful magic keeping both subject and vassal in line. To guard this power, they developed a secret language. One known only by them and taught exclusively to their scions. Once the old kingdoms had torn each other apart with their endless wars, the sorcerer kings disappeared and their language with them.

In the following centuries scholars kept studying the Royal Script and most of the magical practices today are in one way or another derived from it. Nowadays knowledge of the language is far less common. Most of the relicts left behind by the ancient sorcerers have long since been transcribed in to more ordinary languages and demand for deciphering the old texts has all but disappeared.

The Royal Script is believed to exist in writing only, Lirann alone knows that it was also spoken.
How does that sound?

Huh... I was certain it was somewhere in there. But I honestly can't find it either. Anyway, I've always run it as 1d2+Str, which I didn't realise until now might actually be a houserule...

That sounds excellent!
