Part 3: Siege of Songs

Aurelia feigns impatient annoyance toward Ramank. It's not for him to order her make-believe servant around!

"Oh well Horace, it seems I've been found out. Played at my own game," Aurelia says, laughing preposterously at herself.

"I am reminded of a painting. The Silent Spiral of Kexvara. That haunting triptych where brushstrokes seem to twist forever inward. Few remember it, but the painter claimed each spiral was a note only the daring could hear." Aurelia then hums the melody that presumably is what those daring ones would have heard.

Horace frowns at Ramank. "Play for it? Why, don't be absurd! We may as well join hands around the table and prepare the Ritual of Adlatheniux, for the last one standing to claim the inheritance while the rest of are turned into mewling cat demons! Preposterous!"

"Boo! Hacks! Charlatans!" Oriole calls from their seat. They give you a wink, making it clear that they are testing to see how you might deal with malcontents in the audience.

HECKLERS
Overcome: DC 30 Deception to ignore the heckling, DC 32 Intimidation to counter-heckle, or DC 34 Performance to use the heckling to bolster your acting
Sep 15, 2025 1:56 pm
"I have to agree en-tire-ly ..." Aurelia says as she dramatically draws out each syllable of the word, " ... with Horace. You are being ridiculous, Ramank."

At the same time, she completely ignores Oriole's taunts, waving them off with the flourish of an arm as if their words were never uttered. She hopes Ramank takes no offence and knows it's all in the spirit of the performance.

Bekassine looks past Oriole, toward where she imagines hecklers would be if this was an theater and says to the imaginary taunters; "I've been patient, but may woe fall unto any who try to keep what's due from me." Fox give a growl as if to put a exclamation point on the sentence.
OOC:
Intimidating Glare doesn't do anything for us here, correct?

"For once you show some sense, sister," Horace says to Aurelia while moving on with his improvisation and ignoring the heckling.

"And you,"
he turns to Bekassine, "will surely get what's due to you. Perhaps the greatest debt owed, I think, as it turns out I brought my late brother's body to the Temple for the clerics to inspect. And what, pray tell, do you think they found but traces of poison upon his lips?"

Oriole claps. "Nicely handled. Now, quickly! It's time for a costume change!"

COSTUME CHANGE

Overcome: DC 30 Crafting to create a new costume element, DC 32 Deception to swiftly rearrange your current outfit to something new, or DC 34 Performance to keep the costume but change the context of it in character (for example, someone dressed as a merchant might suddenly reveal they’re a criminal dressed in a disguise)
Sep 17, 2025 1:46 pm
Aurelia, who had been dressed in an aristocrat's flowing, gilded robes, snaps off what is actually a cape and not a robe at all, letting it drop and fan out on the floor below her. Revealed underneath are the clothes of a court jester: baggy, colorfully striped breeches, and a purple sash. Magically, but actually from a hidden deep pocket, she withdraws her wind ocarina and plays a joyful tune, dancing and whirling as she plays.
OOC:
She won't use the instrument's magical properties. For this scene, it is a virtuoso musical instrument.

Bekassine acts as if she suddenly realizes she's not in the proper clothes for mourning. She excuses herself to change, and quickly tries to fashion a black outfit from what Oriole has laying around.
She steps back on stage to find Aurelia has also changed outfits.

"Oh poison, how outrageous," Ramank replies. "That means there'll be more for the rest of us right?"

He quickly turns his cloak inside out, for a more monotone and colorless display. "Look at my wretched clothes. I need a new wardrobe."

Horace grins, then moves his hair aside, tying it back, then donning a pair of glasses. "And so you have it! I have seen all of you clearly now, weeping over my body. But you will now realize that it is I! And that unfortunate soul who has perished was my brother, who tried to warn me of the poisonous villainy. Now here, I find you squabbling over my remains like ravenous hounds rather than mourning."

LENGTHY ARIA

Overcome: DC 30 Performance to excel at the challenge, DC 32 Athletics to power through, or DC 34 Medicine to use breath control techniques

Bekassine does her best to not embarrass herself when it comes time to singing. She just tries to control her breathing, and doesn't try to hit any notes out of her range.

DANCE NUMBER

Overcome: DC 30 Performance to put on an elegant dance, DC 32 Acrobatics to incorporate gymnastics, or DC 34 Theater Lore to draw upon an established dance routine
Sep 25, 2025 10:58 am
Once again Ramank refrains from taking part in this part. Instead he opts to just akwardly snap his fingers in what could be the rythm being danced to.
