@Dastuun : correct, the quiver lets you gain focus without action once per day, I unchecked the item on your sheet for tracking this

FYI : while there are some creatures with special defenses that allow them to ignore specific damage it is typically elemental or magical in nature. Ex : fire heals a flame elemental, skeletons can be killed but have a chance to rise back up...

Des quickly unleashes his prepared arrow only for it to sink into the muddy mass as he knocks his next arrow. The mud does not even react to the attack and continues on its charge, slamming into John who stops it with his shield. Cass calls to upon the spirits to answer he summons but the flames are slow to respond to her and do not manifest a corporeal spirit.

OOC:
I assume Cass still wants a fire spirit to attack? Going with that for now.
Des backs off and looks around but sees no other threat while Cass is able to call forth a fire spirit that instantly bathes the mud creature in flame. The flames harden the creatures outer surface slowing it a bit and hindering its reformation from the attacks, causing it to crack and crumble.

John lets his guard down when he saw Cass’s fire spirit cause such damage to the mud creature. He quickly learns his lesson as he is battered by two attackers now, his armor getting denting as it absorbs the blows. Gritting his teeth he pushes them away again, clearing the space around him. He sees that Cass is under attack but hopes they can stop that one while he keeps these two occupied. He goes to strike at the mud creature again, hoping now that it’s smaller his strikes may do something.

Alden quickly moves to John's side, positioning himself to prevent the knight from being overwhelmed by the two mud creatures. With a sharp breath, he focuses his will, noticing the effect of the heat from Cass's summoned spirit. Alden thrusts his hand forward, and flames burst into existence, shaping into a flaming fist that lunges toward the nearest mud creature.

OOC:
Due to the slow speed of the shamanic trait in melee combat simply attacking with a weapon is more effective at straight damage.

However, the shamanic trait is very versatile in that it also allows you to heal and summon familiar spirits to scout, bless a weapon, etc. So . . . Just survive and adapt.

I may have inadvertantly mislead you about damaging the mud creature. When I was talking about some creatures having methods of avoiding damage I was not trying to say this was the case here. Just that it is possible. Known common examples : trolls regenerate, skeletons can raise after being destroyed, for elementals are healed by fire. The fact that the arrow had no apparent affect could have multiple reasons, high HP, resist piercing, regenerate, damage immunity to non magic.

Hint, Des only suspects his weapon had no effect. When the flight is tough you can always use Anthony as a weapon and attach with disadvantage. Torch = club

John breathes a sigh of relief as they end one of the mud creatures. Flicking the mud from his blade he turns to face the last 2, armor grinding and pinching at him from the damage taken. Seeing Alden and Cass get hit he gets ready to intervene should any attacks from the mud creature look like they’ll land.

He sees the morale of some of his companions may be wavering and he calls out to reassure them, before striking twice at one of the creatures.

"Stand fast! Focus on one at a time! We can do this!"

Alden wipes a streak of mud from his face, wincing slightly at the ache in his side. His breath is ragged, but his eyes remain sharp, watching the last creature slither away into the darkness.

"We can’t let it escape," he says, voice low but urgent. "If it calls for more or warns something worse, we’ll be in real trouble. Let’s take a moment to patch ourselves up—then we follow. Can you heal me, Cass?"

Cass nods and turns to the spirits once more. She raises her hand and beckons a spirit of life and renewal to join them for a time. "We are deep in the earth and such forces are all around us," she says.
