OOC:
This store have a basic bandage kit but the full healers kit is available from Willowbrook Remedies. Go ahead and get it. We will assume your character goes to the correct store at some point.

No need to track things. The moder variant of the game uses "cinematic" ammo, that only runs out between combat, but most basic supplies are not tracked unless there is a reason you can not restock.
Food on a long adventure, water in a desert...

Moving the story along, hopefully along the direction you intend ?
Ralven Thornfoot

Ralven pulls a large leather scroll out and unrolls it. The map is of the valley and surrounding country side. He points out a the larger more intact ruins he is aware of.

1. Tower ruins near the north western road
2. The manor ruins in thedeepest forest
3. The sunken ruins at the edge and beneath the nearby lake

If you want a guide then likely you best talk with Karesohn. You can find him at the The Hollow Hearth tonight after dusk getting his dinner. He is the only hunter that is brave or foolish enough to take you to those pllaces.
The other will guide you close but he will acompany you if you ask..

"A guide sounds perfect. We will talk to Karesohn tonight, thank you."

Alden turns to his companions. "Do you have any preferences for the ruins? Cass, I think you would prefer if we go into the forest, right?"

If the group agrees, we will resupply, talk to Karesonn and go with him to the manor ruins in the deepest forest tomorrow.

If you are staying in town for the day you can just give a list of questions, actions, places to visit etc and I can dump a bunch all at once. If you have follow up questions we can role play through those specific scenes after

Cass nods and says, "If it's all the same to you, yes, I would prefer that! Thanks. And yes, we should speak to Karesohn."
OOC:
Cass will also speak to folks (e.g., Edrik, Lenna, and Father Havel) about the forest and the manor, to see if they can share any wisdom, lore, etc.

Alden will review his commission. What exactly he was hired to do, if it was just to map things out or not, and how could he use that to help civilization and this town progress, specially by sharing knowledge and improving cooperation.

John turns from the leather wares he was looking at, not actually looking to buy anything. He joins the group and rests a hand on the pommel of his sword, giving a smile.

"They all sound like an adventure to me. Wherever you all want to go is good for me. I will busy myself at the forge should you need me before we depart."

John will bid the group farewell and go to find a smithy to busy himself at, should any of the townsfolk accept his help. He will spend the night and the early morning at the smithy.

Father Havel mentions that the shrine is older than the village, and indeed it's core is likely as old as the ruins of the area. But the shrine has always been a refuge and safe haven for the people of the vale. As for other legends he tells of some local tales that focus on the lake.
On certain nights when the moon is full, figures draped in silver mist can be seen walking in solemn procession toward the lake, only to vanish upon reaching the water’s edge. Some claim they are spirits of the lost, others whisper that they are seeking something buried beneath the waves. The Fishermen whisper that on the darkest nights, when the lake is still, a golden light glows beneath the surface.

Edrik thinks little of the ruins and discounts the local legends but when pressed it is obvious that this is more wistful thinking and any real conviction that there is not more too these things. He sends you to talk with Old Mother Aedwyn . The herbalist prattles on about the wealth of the woods and mentions that the lake, hills, and woods each hold a piece of the tale. She is most familiar with the woods and tells the following tale
Deep in the woods, hidden beneath tangled roots, lies a great stone that weeps water even in the driest of summers. The shrine’s oldest texts suggest it is the remnant of a forgotten guardian, a being of living stone that once stood watch over the valley. Some believe its grief stems from a betrayal long ago.

Lenna mentions a local chant the children often sing
"Deep in the hollow, past root and stone,
A door stands waiting, alone, alone.
Knock three times and whisper true,
But never step beyond, or it takes you too
."
As she says the chant is a childish sing song way you see her face cloud over but when she finished she blinks and smiles once again.

John spends some time in the smithy, repairing his gear from the fight while working for the used of the tools and required materials.
OOC:
This is a pretty open scenario so you have a couple threads to pursue. All are tied to a shared history but will show a different side to what has happened and the current state of things.

That evening you gather to eat and discuss what you have learned. The inn has a slow but almost constant rotation of locals wandering in and out. You get the feeling this is so common that many can tell the time of the evening by who is in the room at any given time. As evening turns to dusk a man enters the room that matches the description you were given. He waves hello to Merris and Gorvin, looks around, and heads straight for you.

I hear you may have need of a guide. May I join you? After pulling up a seat he looks you over as his food is brought over then starts eating before continuing. I hear you are interested in the ruins around here. As you have plainly seen the valley is not short on tumbled down ruins and most have ceases to wonder much about them, myself included. That don't mean we think they're all harmless. There are some things best left along. But I have been most places here abouts and was a bit braver and more foolish to boot when I was a bit younger. What exactly are you looking for? and he sudies you keenly.

Alden leans forward slightly, resting his elbows on the table as he studies Karesohn in return. His expression is calm, measured, but there’s a keen interest in his gaze.

"I’m looking for ruins that still hold their shape—places that haven't completely crumbled with time. My commission is to investigate, not disturb, but I need to confirm the truth behind certain records." He taps a finger against the table thoughtfully.

"An inscription recently translated suggests this valley was once the site of a conflict unlike any other—a silent war between forces not of this world. And yet, the historical records are strangely absent of any mention of battle. That raises questions." He pauses, choosing his next words carefully.

"The final line of the inscription warns: ‘That which was buried was not slain. Do not wake what sleeps.’" He watches for any reaction. "I intend to find out what that means, whether the danger still lingers and if it needs to be protected from careless looters. If you know of any places that fit the description—ruins that feel... different, untouched, maybe even mystic —I’d be very interested in hearing about them."

The huntsman ponders, then shrugs. Most know of the lake but though there are some structures that seem mostly intact under its surface I doubt that those are what you seek. Kids, like myself in my youth, dive in and explore the shallow ones. They seem ordinary enough by daylighy. There is something going on there but seems so long as no one goes there at night there is not issue. You can go and see for yourselves. Just don't enter the water at night

There are a couple ruins in the hills around here, one in particular is in better shape than most and has some doorways to dark depths underneath. The ruins themselves seem simple enough to me but those caverns . . . I can take you as far as I have gone before but beyond that you will be on your own.

But if you ask me the true secret is dep in the woods. There are a couple places I can take you that are more intact or have other openings into the depths beneath the vale. One is only a building foundation and floor. The walls are all gone but the foundation and a great stone platform are oddly untouched. The other is an old witch or druid mound. There is a door on one side made of great carved stone slabs. I can show you these well enough but again will only take you so deep into them.
Feb 21, 2025 4:54 pm
"The building foundation and the mound sound exactly like what I am looking for..." He turns to the companions. "Do you have any preferences?"

Alden goes with the majority.
Feb 21, 2025 6:52 pm
Cass says, "I agree! Deep in the woods sounds best, and that mound in particular could be exciting. Maybe that and then the house foundation?"
Feb 21, 2025 7:05 pm
John rubs his chin, with a hand dirty from working at the forge. Leaving smudges of ash on his face as he does so.

"That lake sounds interesting but I have no idea how we’d go underwater. So the Forrest sounds good to me."

With groups I often take any seconded proposal to keep things moving.
You come to an arrangement with Karesohn and after chatting a bit more he retires, as do you all, with plans to meet at first light. You have an uneventful night and awake refreshed in the morning, dress, prepare, and head out the smaller back gate at first light so join up with Karesohn.

https://i.imgur.com/ONKyBli.jpeg You follow a narrow track into the woods ("into the woods, into the woods" and repeat . . .) The calm morning air is cool and the scent of thick vegetation and water fills you with vigor, or at least the desire to move enough to get a bit warmer. The path winds around rocks, trees, streams, and the occasional tumbled down stone ruin. The bird calls in the trees still as you near, only to pick back up once you move on letting you all know the local wildlife is having no difficulty tracking your trek through the woods. Most noticeably Johns heavy armor makes even his lightest step a jingle of pack, harness, and weapons against his armor. Then as the sun is cresting the hills and shining down onto the tree tops above you step out into a small clearing around a mound, or small hill, with a stone doorway on one side.

Have you any lanterns or torches?
The entrance is a steep tunnel down and is large enough to allow light only to the first room
Feb 21, 2025 7:17 pm
Des is quiet during the trip. "I wonder about the guardian the herbalist mentioned..." he gargles, and trails off in contemplation.

Cass rummages through her pack and replies, "I have a torch, yes, and also a lantern and oil."
Feb 21, 2025 7:21 pm
Des nods and says "I also have a lantern, and will guard the rear." He positions himself toward the back of the group, bow out and arrow knocked, held in one hand, lantern in the other.
Feb 21, 2025 7:32 pm
John goes through the process of stashing some bulkier items to retrieve later. Items they won’t need in a cave like a tent. After which he also pulls out a lantern, noticing everyone else has one as well he laughs.

Ha ha! Looks like we’re all prepared! I can take the front in case there is any danger?

Side note, but one I always think of now
While playing another game we had our sorcerer in the back going through a dungeon and he got smacked hard twice by a sneaky monster. After almost dying the 2nd time he moved to the middle and pushed someone a bit less squishy behind himself :) LoL
Remember, no one expects the spanish inquisition. ( name the reference, origin or movie it is used in, lets see how old or full or trivia everyone is )
