And if we use the orb to successfully control a dragon or two, we can use it/them to wipe out the goblins and ogres and whatever else is rampaging through the town, then force it to leave and buy the entire city some time.
Note that the Orb has already Dominated its dragon for the day, so if the party wants to take further advantage from that, Morik should issue the command for the Wing Drake to return right away. It's a mental command through the telepathic bond, so Morik doesn't need to revert to dwarf form to do so.

The control of dragons is once pr day, and it have been used this day

And I don't think Juniper knows much about this Duke or anything. She probably has BASIC general knowledge of the ruling body, so the Queen and some queens before her (like a general history of Greenwold, I would assume).
I would suggest that Juniper has a pretty solid general understanding of the current state of affairs in the Greenwold's authority structures, if only because she has been interacting with a lot of patients who talk about it. So even before she came to Grayhaven, Juniper knew that Sophia is a little human pre-teen who has had to grow up very suddenly since she was orphaned (her parents died in a flash flood that she barely survived) and crowned Queen two years ago. Juniper knows that the Royal Council appointed Dain Draymore, Duke of Grayhaven, as Sophia's Regent to help her get up to speed. And Juniper knows that the Queen has started enacting her own policies recently, such as the reinstatement of the Queen's Fair (which Juniper caught the tail end of), over the objections of the much more conservative Duke (who would prefer to make no major changes to policy or expenditure until the Queen turns 18). Not surprisingly, the people of Grayhaven that Juniper met have been very enthusiastic about the Queen (and less enthused about the Duke), since they were all enjoying the festival.

You're so unimaginative. 😂
The dragons don't know that. As far as they know, being dominated is still a very real possibility. So we bully them into helping and being "allowed" to maintain their free will.

Zin would probably be the better choice for that, but Adran is the one walking into town. He has guidance at least. Lol

I'm not sure I understand the idea. It's possible/likely that the dragons are here for the orb, destroying whatever's in their way, and if we see one coming for us, you want to be like "hey dragon, we got this orb, you should do our bidding or else we'll use it on you"?
Aug 6, 2025 2:42 am
Yes.
I would think "you can help us willingly or we can mind control you to do it anyway" would be a rather convincing argument. Being threatened with loss of free will and total subjugation is a pretty heavy threat.

And the dragons go: Allright, there are two of us here, you might get one of us, but the other will burn you to bits, and break the control. The orb is only dangerous as long as you live

And that is why I don't want to get the dragons attention

I can’t imagine why a powerful dragon would even stop to converse with its meal, it’d just as likely try to eat us without pause. There’s also too many stragglers relying on us to take such a risk.

I mean, I would think it'd be pretty clear dragon A won't get the chance to burn us to bits if Dragon B is going to immediately prevent that from happening.

I also give us, as PCs, credit for being marginally smarter than that -- you find a singular dragon.

Dragons are some of the most talkative creatures in D&D. 🤷‍♂️

So, leaving them to it while we run to the castle or flee the city helps them how exactly?

Since I doubt we slept through hours of an assault, we have huge swaths of the city burning down in very short order. That suggests to me that there pretty much won't be a city by morning. Those people need help now, or there won't be people to help later.

Bringing them with us to the castle.

Oh, just them? Ok.

I imagine we'll run across plenty of people needing help or wanting to join up as we head to the castle.

Yeah, my frame of mind was we have an antire city of stragglers relying on us. They certainly won't all fit in the castle.
Aug 7, 2025 5:01 am
That's fair. I'd rather head to the castle and save what people we can, gather some info to see if we can learn anything more, and also make sure the queen is safe.

No one else seems to have voted on Rune's post.

Sorry! I didn’t know which one to choose for her haha! She just wants to help the citizens of the city. And I (the player) also haven’t been back as long so I feel bad about making a big decision regarding what direction we go in.

Juniper will either join the whole party to wherever they decide to head to, or she will go with whoever separates (IF we do) to help the citizens escape.

Thanks! I’ll add this to the knowledge I have for Juniper.
