@PbPgameOn approved your character, feel free to add more details from beyond to here, but I only need list Languages you know on top of what you have got there already and drop a link to beyond character into notes just in case I need some details

Actually, please edit your AC to be "18 (20)" for me to not forget how it change when you case shield of faith, thanks

I suggest to take time to read setting and my first game post. I would invite you to post after my next in game post, but if you feel like ready and willing to - feel free to post already, assuming your PC has been with the party all of this time, we just never mentioned him in the story yet

NameWho Background Nature Notes
BartholomewHalfling Paladin Wayfarer TBD* Heavy armor
Atticus Tiefling Wizard Sage Prudent, thinks aloud Owl familiar
Garran Human Fighter Soldier Easy going, joking Heavy armor
Krynt Human Ranger Wayfarer Serious, prefer to act alone Always hiding

* Bartholomew just joined game - my first impression of a casual person and - not sure if it was on purpose, but got impression of the "mister obvious"

How I want social interaction to run

I'm RAW man, and rules say
Quote:
When you do something other than moving or communicating, you typically take an action.
It means:
1. If all you want to do is to communicate - you don't need to roll anything
2. If you want to influence NPC while communicating, you take an Influenc action please see rules for details
3. If you want to take passive role in the communication you can use actions such as Search or Study
4. Last but not least you can Improvise
Quote:
you can improvise other actions. When you describe an action not detailed elsewhere in the rules, the Dungeon Master tells you whether that action is possible and what kind of d20 Test you need to make, if any.

This is new to me.
So questioning basic things don't need a roll. But questioning that npc don't want to need a roll, correct?
Sep 18, 2026 8:02 am
this is new to me as well, in 2014 there were no social actions, I like how it makes things simpler and more orderly for me as DM

I guess at a table it would go like this:
Player: I ask barkeep "where do I find mafia boss"
DM: Barkeep say he don't think he knows that
Player: Decides to take Influence action and rolls good
DM: Barkeep say wait, you know I start to remember

Now here on PBP it is common practice to make forward roll, ie Player: I ask barkeep "where do I find mafia boss" and just in case it will be require here is my influence action roll

Just in general for PbP, it's a good idea to just roll if you think you are doing literally anything that might requre a roll as per the rules. The worst that can happen is that you didn't need to roll and the DM just ignores it. If you DON'T roll, but you need a roll, that slows the whole game down. So it's best to roll one too many times than one time too few.

I've like to add some examples to better explain how I would like to play this game, but they will contain some minor spoilers about current NPC If you don't want spoilers - don't read them before after the scene is druid is over
[ +- ] Option 1 - no dice rolling
[ +- ] Option 2 - Dice rolling
[ +- ] Mixed

After we finish this encounter I would like to hear you opinion and have you vote if we adopt 2024 social encounter rules having two goals in mind:

Social Strategy (Just Like Combat): NPC attitudes are now split into Friendly, Indifferent, and Hostile. Just like you plan for combat, you now need a strategy for social scenes. Finding an NPC's flaws, leveraging their bonds, or offering real favors will shift their attitude and mechanically lower the Difficulty Class (DC) of charisma checks.

Dice Rolls Aren't Mind Control: A Natural 20 won't brainwash a villain into giving up their plans, but it will get a hostile enemy to negotiate instead of fighting. It keeps the world believable and rewards smart arguments over blind luck.

How you want social encounter to be run Public

I just want to roll my persuasion and dice decide it all
Keep using 2024 rules and see how it goes
Other (describe you vision if you vote this)

do we show the old guy the map? who has the map anyways?

PbPgameOn says:

I believed Atticus has it?

Usually I try to make role play opportunities symmetric for all players, thus let's assume each PC has their own copies of original map

@solose first of all thank posting, we are only waiting @Thorstmixx to post now. I would like to clarify though (ignore if this was clear already) unless NPC explicitly bans you from conversation you are welcome to keep contributing to that conversation, just as in combat after rolling nat1 you keep fighting and only after you drop to 0 HP you stop
Sep 20, 2026 8:20 am
Again this is new to me as well and this is what I think about the new structure of social encoutner
I guess it could be fun to try to involve Search [Action]
Quote:
When you take the Search action, you make a Wisdom check to discern something that isn’t obvious
into a social encounter in ways other than lie-detector,
As mentioned before - Finding an NPC's flaws, leveraging their bonds, or offering real favors will shift their attitude and mechanically lower the Difficulty Class (DC) of charisma checks.
@PbPgameOn has already realized how offering real favors (helping with grass cutting) could shift the attitude, but you could try Search more

Apologies for the delay, gents. It's been a very chaotic weekend with the kiddos. I'll post as soon as I find the time today.
