Pitch
You and the others awaken in an unfamiliar place. You do not know each other. You do not know how you got here.

Now you must work together to pioneer peculiar portal-linked planes, overcome outlandish oppositional obstacles, fight frumious far-fetched foes, accord altruistic absurd allies, puzzle the pattern of the portals, and hopefully find a way back home.

Character/Rules Info
Character Generation Info Use the fancy new character builder here: https://tools.cypher-rpg.com/builder

We are going with the Dungeon Fantasy genre.

We'll still earn and award "XP" for things like re-rolls and player intrusions, but not for advancing. Instead I'll let you know when to go up a step, usually with progress or completion of objectives.

Game Duration and Post Frequency
I am anticipating/hoping for slow/steady progression, probably about 1 post per player per day, but I know sometimes things go slower or faster just based on how busy people are.

I have an endpoint in mind for the campaign, but it's a long ways off and I know PBP games can take a while to get to things. So mostly, I plan to run as long as I and my players maintain enough interest and focus and activity to keep it going.

Player Experience Requirements
I'm good with any level of experience with Cypher in any of it's forms or editions (including no experience.) I'd like it if people could let me know what experience they've had with the system so far so that I know how best to fit things to the group at hand.

How to Apply
Right now, I'm going first come first serve. If I feel like there is some disconnect between players/group dynamics, I may re-visit this idea. But that's where I'm starting from.

Welcome to Marginalized Groups
This game is explicitly friendly to players of all genders, races, sexualities, faiths, types of neurodivergence, disability/health, etc; Mistreatment of any players because of these things will result in immediate removal.

I had my eyes on Cypher system for a longtime. It begin with Numenera first edition but then I haven't played that much and mostly forgotten the rules. I will love to give it a try again if you have a slot for a newcomer.

Absolutely! Yeah, I have been in and out with Cypher since Numenera. I'm excited by the new edition because I feel like it addresses some of the complaints that some of my players have had with the system.

Likewise I have limited cypher experience but wild like to get more. The suggested play rate might be a bit much if the games I am already in pick back up. Consider me interested but if there is a big list feel free to put me at the bottom.

I feel for your players! I have only played one Numenera game, and although I loved the setting, I was disappointed by some design decisions. Mainly the fact that you use the same pool to track your health and to use it as a metacurrency to improve rolls.

I heard they fixed that in the new edition, so I would be interested to give it a try (provided that we don't need access to the manual, as I didn't back it).

Yeah, that was one of the major changes they made. And thankfully, no manual needed. All the character options are built into the fancy character builder that they put out: Character Builder

And, thanks to the Cypher Open License, you can find all the core rules online. This is one of the best organized places for them: https://callmepartario.github.io/og-crd/

But also I'll be happy to answer any questions/provide guidance as things come up.

I thought I'd had the link to the game with the initial post, but I'm not seeing it now. So, here it is:

Hi, I've always been curious to try Cypher, and as you're accepting new players I'll throw my hat in the ring. Didn't realize there was a second edition, I vaguely remember it's based on tags? Thanks!

The new edition just came out like a month or so ago, so its pretty new!

Not based on tags (maybe you're thinking of City of Mist?). Your character is created as an [adjective] [noun] who [verbs] where each part is picked from options of things that make up your class/character abilities, so that might seem tag-like in its set up.

Rolls are made by rolling 1d20 and adding any relevant modifiers from skills/abilities, but also you have pools for Moght, Speed, and Intellect that you can spend to improve your chances.

On previous versions of the game, the pools doubled as your health, which sort of discouraged players from spending points. So the new version has a separate wounds system for health and has no penalties for spending all your points.

Glad to see interest in Cypher system. I've run and played a metric ton here; in fact my first game on GP was Numenera, but rarely see new games come up.

I've always thought that the mechanics were ideal for PBP.

Good luck!

Sorry I missed this one. Hope at some point there are more games in this system
