Step into a dark, gothic horror masterpiece where every choice matters and the legendary vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich watches your every move. To survive, you must uncover ancient secrets, face terrifying foes, and find a way to escape a cursed realm where even death offers no guarantee of safety.

Game is run based on WotC module Curse of Strahd.

We have covered about half of module and I am eager to finish the module in next few years.

I love that module and have played it as a player cover to cover (at the table).

Nevertheless setting are very very dark and depressing. Your PCs will not be driven by quest givers and will need to make a lot of decisions about your course of actions and believe me - you will make a lot of mistakes and that will not be fun to realized the damage your decisions made can't be undone.

Launched in December 2024—partially as a hands-on journey to learn D&D 5.5—this campaign is still going strong. Real-world might have claimed most of our original crew, and with one more player recently having to step away, I’m now looking for a fresh adventurer to take their place and join the story!

Short summary
System: DnD 5.5 (PHB 2024).
Peace: 3 per week
PC LVL: 6 (and approaching 7)
Style: role-play and exploration heavy (combat is rare)
Pitch/Genre: see game description (note: based on player decision I've removed content related to children abuse from the module)

Questions and Answers
Party composition: two monks and bard and warlock/fighter.
Catching up on story: recap and notes threads exist in game and DM is eager to walk you through if you join his discord server
Magic items, and other character creation questions: see Character creation rules on game page

Want to apply?
I’m really glad you’re considering joining our campaign. I want to make sure you feel like a core member of the team right from your very first session, rather than just "the late-comer" who hopped on the train.

To make that happen, I have two important requests as the DM for our shared start:
- Eagerness to learn the world: The other players have been in this story for a while now. I expect you to be ready to actively chat with me and the group to catch up on the key lore and history that their characters already know.
- A character who fits the story: This campaign relies heavily on a specific setting and atmosphere. I am looking for a character who organically fits into this environment and has a real reason to travel with the current party. This won't be the place for a random combo of mechanics or an experimental "build" you just want to playtest. Instead, let’s create a character with a soul, built specifically for this story.

can sit down with the character sheet and figure everything out.

If you post here a note that say you are ready to collaborate a bit before the game starts so we can craft the perfect introduction for your character - I will reach you out. Or just join my Discord Server hitting this link We can figure everything out through a chat or even voice call if you prefer.

Interested in playing in a game focused on rp and exploration. The first character idea that came to mind is a social happy-going ranger, who's a ranger because he had to leave society for some false accusations, an ex-royal-hunter disillusioned with high society and politicking.

@sentient and anyone else who may still be interested - please reconsider your interest after re-reading my original post.
You don't need to drop a massive backstory on the table and say, 'This is me, now tell me what game we are playing.' Let's vibe with the setting first, understand the story told so far and then weave your hero into it.

Give me a short-list of question you are interested to hear about story told in the game so far and give me a week or two to come back with the answers. We will continue our conversation from there.

Hi! I am new here, and saw your game. If there is still room for another I am interested.

Hi, Olof. There still is a room for one more. But. If you are new here my game may not be the best fit for you for the learning curve, but I'm ready to help you if you are ready to accept that help. Are you? Then give me the shortlist as I've asked before

Great! I'm willing to learn, and I hope it won't be too slow a curve.

By the way, I'm from Sweden. What time zone do you play in? I was mostly wondering if there would be any problems if I posted at times when you might be sleeping.

You mentioned a list - were you referring to the list of questions we should ask you about what happened in your campaign?

We don't play "in a time zone". Game peace is 3 posts per week. I always try to give at least 40 hours for each player to post. Is that game peace good for you?

After some thought, I must admit that I am unsure if I can keep up with your pace. I'm very interested in participating (the Curse of Strahd campaign is one of my favorites), but I don't know yet how time-consuming this form of play is. Or if it's a game form that I'll want to play for a long time, before I try it. I have never played role-playing games this way.

Maybe I should first try an adventure that is short and beginner-oriented.

I'm very interested in joining, though I see Olof beat me to it. I'll hold off on bombarding you with a bunch of questions until you guys figure out if this is a good stater game for him. If he doesn't end up joining after all and the spot frees up, I'm next in line, haha :D

@Olof, @Thorstmixx. You know what. I think I could make and run a shorter game for you and any other gamersplane newcomer. There is a one-shot I've run once that has some links to Curse of Strahd and have a similar mood. Keep an aye on the tawern, recruitment thread will pup up soon.

That sounds great! That being said, I feel I should clarify that I'm new to Gamersplane, but not new to PbP, in case that makes a difference :)

I agree with Thorstmixx, it sounds like a good idea.
