Thanks for the invitation. I've run Savage Rifts twice but not played it. (The GM curse, am I right?)
My usual approach is to let the others choose first because there are so many great frameworks to choose from. However in the interest of getting the conversation started, I'm kind of interested in either a True Atlantean Undead Slayer (from the Atlantis campaign book, if available) or a MARS headhunter techno-warrior.
Thanks for the offer of dedicated threads for the characters. It's a great idea for a long game as a place we can post notes or even links to important events.

And yes, all the books are available so the Undead Slayer would be viable. :)

I think character threads are a good idea. We can make our table rolls there.
I've poked around with a Burster and a Dragon Hatchling idea. For the later, it's unclear how the Born a Hero seeing rule interacts with the delayed starting choices that the dragon has.

Hey everyone, thanks for the invite Knighthawke!
Agree with character threads, that's worked well in the past.
Regarding character, was initially thinking of bringing back a burster I had briefly played in a different rifts game, but there indeed are so many other neat frameworks to try. I'll take at look at the other IFs and let y'all know.

Still thinking about the dragon hatchling as a possibility. I want to get your thoughts on if an edge is taken as part of the "Untested" trait does it still fall under the Born a Hero rule and allow ignoring Rank. Also, how would you handle the one hinderance per session then when you have 4 hinderance points you can spend the four points in PbP.
[ +- ] Born a Hero
Born A Hero:
Heroes may ignore the Rank
qualifications for Edges during
character creation. They must
still meet any other Requirements as usual. The usual
rules for Rank Requirements
apply afterwar

By Splynncryth's spleen, the Undead Slayer has a shocking breadth of powers. Got it mostly built mechanically. Took a couple of hours, mostly time spent to copy and paste power descriptions into the character sheet.
I'm thinking perhaps my PC might be an emissary (sacrificial lamb?) from Atlantis to the Tomorrow Legion, there to help make inroads to Europa?

And yeah, I can see the Legion making use of that kind of assistance. :) How much knowledge/experience in Europa are you thinking you would have?

None at all, other than perhaps he's been to where they are to first disembark? I want thinking he's not a tour guide, more like a liaison.
If it works better, I can work with you to build a more robust history for him in Europa for the starting land.
I'm using him as a pronoun, but I think I'm leaning 60/40 for a female character.

I'm not too worried about gender, especially with the dragon option. You ever sex a newborn 7 ton lizard that breathes fire?
Aug 29, 2026 4:22 am
Still mulling over. The Rune Warrior piqued my interest, as it offered flavors of playing a monk like character, but I'm wondering if it's too one note (in particular for a longer campaign). Then I ran across the Momano Headhunter, a bit more varied and still has a monk-ish vibe but perhaps too similar of a skill set with the Undead Slayer. The Zapper seems neat, and may work well if we run across the tech heavy NGR/Sovietski, but I'm not sure how much of a serious, day to day, issue the 'glitchy electronics' complication will be?

Also, don't those big 7 foot lizards shapeshift into 7 ton people?? or thereabouts. LOL

Scales Beneath the Skin
Because dragons come in different varieties, at character creation you may choose to reduce your dragon-form armor by 2 levels in order to add +2 M.D.C. in human form (concealed, as "tough skin") — much like a Dragon Juicer has.
Are there any House Rules or clarifications you all fee are needed? I'm looking at a few, but I'll bring any up for you all to consider. This is all of our's game, not just mine so I want to make it fun for everyone. :)
Aug 30, 2026 9:09 pm
The only house rule I can think of is more about PBP initiative than SWADE.
1) Have the GM draw cards for everyone, and
2) we shouldn't worry about strict initiative between PCs before the next NPC action. That is, if two PCs are on a 7 and a 10, and then next NPC is on 6, then a third PC on 4, then the 7 could post before the 10 does, but 4 would wait until after the NPC.
These just speed up the asynchronous play.

I think that works as long as everyone's on board and respectful, which is usually not a problem on GP in my experience.
I like that House Rule. It's not like the hatchling doesn't have stupid amounts of MDC armor and toughness, so it can afford to give up a little for durability in other forms.
Looking at other sources, including how savaged.us appears to handle it, the points for Untested are handled as "at character creation" so could take advantage of Born a Hero. It is a little odd that you can accelerate the good part by taking Major Hindrances instead of Minor, since it builds up to when you have 4 points of hindrances but you can take one hinderance (major or minor) after each session (the GM will have to declare "sessions" here since they won't necessarily correlate with anything including advances.)

Thanks for the invite. I will be honest, I am still looking into the entire guide and the system. But I have an interest in either a Glitter Boy, or a Cyber knight in so far as I have read right now.

I'm happy to help anyone with less experience with the system. Let us know what questions you run across.

I intend to hammer through the guide when I get off work tonight, or that was my plan. I can usually follow written instructions well, but I will definitely reach out with any questions I come across or concepts I struggle on.
Aug 31, 2026 8:46 pm
Glitter Boys could be interesting. Just have to remember all the downsides including the anchor to fire, climbing out, etc.
But, as an impression, one or two Glitter Boys definitely make a statement. And, when you throw in a DH? Welllll lol
@Bullseyepsa - BTW, what version of a DH are you considering? :)

I was mostly looking at the Flame Wind, but the Forest Runner has some attraction, too, though it's bit less combat effective. I've been looking at the Dragon Metamorphosis edge which makes the Forest Runner's special characteristics less enticing.

Okay, reading more I think I might want to roll a MARS, possibly. Reading on, providing I am understanding correctly, anyone could actually pilot power armor if the story gravitated to even require such antic that would require more than one. And I like skill monkeys.
Specifically, as long as I am completely understanding what I am picking up, maybe a Merc soldier or operator. But I am still reading. Sorry for being behind.

MARS is a good option. They won't have the raw power of some (many) of the other Frameworks, but will have a lot of versatility and also have the advantage (in many cases in Rifts) of being more human.

So long as I understand correctly and did my math right, I think I am set on sort of merc/op, and taking driving? If the theme is an expeditionary mission to war torn Europe, a vehicle maybe? Concept should be ready out of the box depending on starting funds.
Also, how are we intending to roll the extra tables?

So I think I've narrowed it down to a human or psi-ghost Zapper, or a Vronwor Momano Headhunter (assuming GM permitted).
The former adds some espionage/infiltration for those times when we need stealth over brute force (2(!) glitter boys and a dragon!? hachi-machi!).
The latter provides another melee monster (though introspective, inquisitive, and generally peace loving) with some good support options when fighting the supernatural. The Vronwor also have a history with gargoyles, so fits in nicely with the Europa setting. Lastly, wait, is he looking at me hungrily, licking his lips?
Thoughts?

I’ve stepped away from the GB concept myself. I have worked up a Merc/Ops build that provided I built correctly, should play like something between a soldier, and a mcgyver-esq Mr fix everything.
Depending on GM decision or design if command abilities are hard RAW or if they allow command buffs to say… be not range dependent but allowed to be shared over radio waves - I was considering taking some edges like Command, inspire, natural leader, with fevor down the line potentially.
The base concept is sort of the "Man out of Time" trope, where he was rift torn from a universe perpetually locked in a 20th century, pseudo-World War vibe, where-in he was a combat engineer.

And I think his supernatural-fighting side may be helpful. Just don’t forget that the Cyber would impact your Psi…

So what do we have now:
B: Dragon Hatchling (omg everything hurts)
C: psi-ghost Zapper, or a Vronwor Momano Headhunter
D: Glitter Boy (ranged)
Q: Undead Slayer (melee)
S: Merc/Ops build (command?)
I think I can say no one will expect us haha

I only get one roll (and while the rules offer three tables, only one actually makes sense.) I can do it wherever. There was talk of individual threads for character development. Since a Dragon Hatchling, by rule, doesn't really have a background I, again, can do whatever.

Speaking of the individual threads, the Our Cast subforum is available now. Go ahead and make a New Thread there for your character. :)

I've had several thoughts, but I was figuring for an absolute newborn maybe it was best to find it in play. I'm thinking dragons have an ancestral name and many dragons insist on them, but a name is what people call you. So I can give her a name liks Abathraxys (because Ys and Xs are very draconic) or reference a classic (my favorite 'classic' dragon name is Vermithrax Pejorative). I think the timeframe for settling on a name is probably about what the Untested trait lays out.
If you prefer I name her before we start, I can do that.

I'm good with that. I had a thought that, in the absence of parental attention during maturation in the egg, she absorbed whatever was around her. So I had some comic book names, like Fin Fang Foom in my head, but I think that's more of a shaping of thought rather than a name.

Pretty sure, I'm good to go now! Think I was only missing the hinderances on the char sheet? Origin posted.

Oh! I didn't even consider a character portrait! It's also going to be AI. If anyone is interested, I stole my user image. It's a painting of Moebius' Arzach. I had the artists information... but I can't find it now.

My character portrait was lifted from somewhere on the Internet, doing a Google image search, looking for a female warrior with lots of visible tattoos. Almost gave up and resorted to AI but I expected that to be a struggle to get what I wanted anyway.

Sid'Charon sees himself as a scholar first and warrior second. His intimidating size, cybernetics, and combat training are simply the tools that allow him to pursue knowledge in places where ordinary academics wouldn't survive.
He joined the Tomorrow Legion because Castle Refuge represents something rare on Rifts Earth: an organization interested not only in surviving, but in recovering, preserving, and sharing the knowledge of lost civilizations. He quickly became a combination of field scholar, archaeologist, translator, and heavily armed librarian.
Europa particularly fascinates him. Beneath the territories controlled by Gargoyles and Brodkil lie countless libraries, universities, monasteries, museums, and archives lost since the Great Cataclysm. He believes destroying the Gargoyles is less important than rescuing the knowledge that might disappear with them.
"Preserve what can be saved. Understand what can be learned. Defend what must endure."

OOC:
I imagine him as similar to X-Men's Beast, and yes, with Kelsey Grammer's voice :)Last edited September 14, 2026 5:54 am

I have to say I wish someone else was GM and I was a player to be inspired by all of these fantastic characters. :)
I can’t wait to see the rest of the portraits :)

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it turns out okay, but if you need a moment just let us know.

I hope things are better now! I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

Fortunately you forgot to roll your Wild Die, so you have another chance (albeit a d6).

Gah! I incorporated the Hero's Journey when I ran up the character. Should I redo it in the rolling table?

Not sure who you're responding to. I was commenting on @SpaceOutlawBebop not rolling their Wild Die in the IC thread(which makes failures way more likely in SWADE, so don't forget your Wild Die!)
And, @Dhakhan , if you're asking about something on your character sheet, only the GM can see if if you don't make it public (click on the library[book] icon in the character list.)
