[Interest Check] Cyberpunk 2077 or CY_BORG (RP Heavy)

Hey everyone.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've been tempted to run a Cyberpunk game for a while now. Before I put pen to paper and commit to writing up the story, however, I wanted to see whether there'd even be any interest in the game.

While the basis of the story isn't yet confirmed, a few things are already set in stone:
Quote:
1.) This would be a game run using the Cyberpunk RED rules, coupled with the Edgerunners Mission Kit amendments. When the 2077 sourcebook is eventually released, the chronicle would incorporate that, too.

1.a.) As an alternative to the above, I would also be happy/willing to run a game of CY_BORG. All of the notes here would still apply to a CY_BORG game, albeit with a Night City-inspired city serving as the game's location rather than Night City itself. All other points regarding RP focus, the kinds and numbers of players I'd want etc would remain the same. Inspiration would still be drawn heavily from Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners for any game of CY_BORG.

2.) The game would be set in the 2076-2077 time period, and would draw heavily from Cyberpunk 2077 (the computer game) and Edgerunners (the show) for its themes, storyline inspirations, and focus. As such, it should be noted that this chronicle would include dark and mature themes matching those demonstrated in the above source material (in line with the site rules regarding swearing/content, the game would be a Private one).

2.a.) As per note 1.a., CY_BORG as an alternative would be set in CY rather than Night City, but would drawn heavily from Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners, and the Night City of both for its themes, storylines, and atmosphere.

3.) This will be a RP heavy chronicle, meaning that there will be an expectation for fully realised characters, detailed and lengthy posts, and between 3-5 posts a week. As part of recruitment, I would be asking for posting examples including the character being applied with - this is to ensure that anyone applying is comfortable writing detailed, RP heavy posts.

4.) The chronicle would focus on a new crew of Edgerunners, who are either new to Night City or have only just thrown their lot in with one another. Storylines will focus as much on each character's personal stories and experiences in Night City as it will on the gigs the crew chooses to take on.

5.) I would be looking for 3-4 players for this, though I'd considering running it with as low as 2 or as many as 5 with the right kind of players/writers. Commitment to post quality and inter-party RP is paramount in my decision as to how many I'd take on. Regardless of the above, I would not be accepting players on a first-come, first-serve basis, but would accept them based on character summary, game application and writing examples to ensure a good fit between GM and player.

6.) I would only accept characters at the start of play who belong to different Roles, in order to ensure crew diversity. Over time, characters can multi-Role if they wish, provided there is story justification, but to begin with the intention is to gather a crew with a variety of different skills and capabilities.

7.) Cyberpunk is a dangerous game, and Night City a very dangerous place. The RPG can be lethal, and depending on player choices and the luck of the dice there is a very real chance of player character death. While I won't go out of my way to kill characters, I won't sugarcoat the nature of the setting and the dangerousness of the game either. As such, applying players should keep these facts in mind.
If there is enough interest, I'll likely create a separate Recruitment Thread, containing an initial game post and chronicle expectations/summary. In the meantime, feel free to use this thread to post questions/express any interest.

I am interested!

A smaller crew of 2–3 edgerunners would be ideal for me — if the group ends up getting larger, I’d probably pass. I think smaller parties work best for the kind of detailed character interaction and personal storytelling you’re aiming for.

Posting pace sounds good as well: 2-3 detailed posts/week is ok for me, and I can do 5/week during combat or faster scenes with shorter posts.

PS: I have the RED rulebook, but not the Edgerunners Mission Kit. I've never played the computer game, so my knowledge of the setting is still in 2045, but I'm willing to learn if we play this game =)

2-3 is a good size with the right players, but would be dependent on detailed, lengthy posts and those same players being invested in actually engaging one another in RP without having to be constantly guided into it by the GM.

If I received those kinds of players applied, then a smaller party would indeed be welcome.

It's easier to find 2 players who meet that requirement than 5 😉

PS: You can check one of my previous games here to let me understand if that's the kind of posts you're looking for. Thanks!

I'd say so, yes. 😊 I'd still want to see a post including the character you'd want to pitch on joining, but there's plenty of time for that.

Sure! I will post that in your recruitment thread, in the future. Looking forward to it.

Likewise! Now just need to find out if there's further interest.

It is worth me noting the following: I would be willing to run CY_BORG as an alternative to Cyberpunk if there was greater interest in that system.

The chronicle points I made above would still be the same with regards to the number of players and the kind of RP heavy story I wanted to tell (and the kinds of players I was looking for), but it would be set in a Night City/2077 inspired version of CY rather than in Night City itself. (So basically CY_BORG, with a lot of story and atmospheric inspiration pulled from Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners.)

I'm mentioning the above just in case it's of interest to people, rather than start an entirely new thread with basically 90%+ of the exact same original post.

EDIT: I've added a note regarding this alternative to my original post.

I may have two potential players, between yourself and another who's contacted me, meaning I'd only need a third to express interest before I had reason to make a full recruitment thread.

The only other thing that would need to be determined is whether the preference was for Cyberpunk RED or CY_BORG. The kinds of storylines told, the heavy RP focus, and the game inspiration being drawn heavily from Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunners, would remain the same eitherway.

I don't have the CY_BORG rulebook, but would be willing to learn.

It sounds better for PbP, but maybe you would need to adapt something in it to fit your tone. =)

The system is very simple, so lacking the rulebook isn't a problem. And not too worried about the tone - plenty of inspiration to be found in the 2077/Edgerunners material.

I've now had three people voice their interest in this, which is a good enough start to warrant a recruitment thread. But before I can do that, I'll need to know which system people would prefer: Cyberpunk, or CY_BORG.

If you're one of the ones who has posted here, or send me a DM directly, please respond here with your preference, and whether either you'd still be interested if either system was used. Once I've heard back, I'll get a recruitment thread made and notify everyone here.

I'm interested. I have a small amount of familiarity with the Borg systems, although I haven't played Cy_Borg yet. I do own the book.

I'd still be interested if it's Cyberpunk RED, but would have to purchase the book somehow to read it over and it would take me a little longer to spin a character up.

Thanks for the input. I'll wait to hear back from two or three more about their preferences and then get started on the recruitment thread.

I have a (slight) preference for RED but would also apply for Cyborg
Jun 9, 2026 9:31 am
Okay, based on messages here and in DMs, it's looking like CY_BORG might be the preference - and those who don't necessarily prefer it are still happy with CY_BORG.

I'm going to start working on a recruitment thread for it. Once that's up, please post to that thread that you're keen to join. I'm likely only going to take on 2-3 players, so I'll be asking for post examples from anyone wanting to play (new posts, not old posts, and ones that includes a CY_BORG setting character - the one you intend on trying to roll up, or another one).

Don't send character sheets yet - I'll likely get players I add to the game to roll them up on the private board itself.

The recruitment thread is now open. I'll be unsubscribing from one, so please reach out to me there if there's any questions or further statements of interest.
