The chaos and spinning had Berlotte ill, bouncing around with no defense. The world was blurry, nearly incapacitating her as she collided with the cage bars and the bodies of other prisoners.
OOC:
When I say DC 12, that is the target roll and stands for "difficulty class". This is not added to your D20 roll but in this case your D20 roll was a 12 so Berlotte succeeds.

Thanks! I might make more mistakes in the future as I’m still getting used to the layout on Gamersplane.

Slane, having escaped the cage, begins running from the giants. Fortune is protected by the gods of law. Army and Astro however, aren't so blessed.

OOC:

Astro will burn 11 luck to make that a success, reducing her luck to 1. Probably won't last long after that, but she might at the very least take a hit that would have otherwise killed a more promising character.

Both Nathan and Tobias will burn the required lucked. Might as well see if I can get them through.
Did you mean Jeptha? Nathan is already out
Yes, I meant Jeptha sorry

OOC:
I'll burn a luck to bump that roll up a point.
Cedrick and Wisco tried to endure the oncoming danger and join Rurik on the outside while mourning the loss of Gorn.

Rolls

Fortitude - Cedrick - (1d20-1)

(16) - 1 = 15

Fi Dre takes the hit. Jo will burn 7 Luck points to succeed with his Saving Throw.

Hawthorne is out already and doesn't need to roll right?

Rolls

Milo Fortitude - (1d20+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

Eldarin Fortitude - (1d20)

(18) = 18

May 26, 2026 2:44 pm

I'll have Milo burn 6 luck to make the save. It's not looking good for him.

everyone in the cage must make a DC12 Fortitude save or take 2pts damage.
Magnar holds fast, enduring the buffeting as the cage is smashed repeatedly. Jermyn and Cedric are not so lucky, taking blows from loose limbs and falling hard as they lose their grip. Cedric smashes his head against the bars of the cage, the impact making a sickening crunch, and falls limp.

Magnar wrests Jermyn to his feet, the larger man bleeding but still alive. "Come on! We have to move now!" The pair push their way to the opening and make their move as soon as they're able.

The scene was chaos as the cage tumbled off the reptile’s back and tumbled down the rocky slope! Bodies were bouncing around and into each other. Surprisingly, luckily even, the furious fiasco gave only bruises and took only two lives. Cedric remained motionless as he had succumbed to his injuries. Most captives were able to shake it off, get to their feet and stumble out of the cage and look back at a nearly comical occurrence harassing their former captors. The soot-storm summoned by the shamaness had fully engulfed the giants. They were shrieking and flailing their arms and running around blind. Clearly they posed no imminent danger to your band of survivors. But that doesn’t mean danger was not still a concern.
Two things happen next simultaneously.
First, Martila, bleeding from a mortal wound to her skull, points and cries out, "Seek the eye… You will see your future in the eye…" and then she takes her last breath.
Second, the oppressive heat from the lava sea hits your faces and presses into your lungs. It seems unsurvivable to remain.
OOC:
You are all on a coastal beach with only two ways to travel on foot. North toward where Astro spotted the giant fire cyclops. South where Martila pointed and where there seems to be a way up and away from the Lava Sea.
May 27, 2026 11:04 pm
OOC:
I’ll assume that you’re going South and I’ll continue the narrative because going North is certain death for all. Feel free to roleplay anything along the way.
As the weary and confused travelers make their slow and steady progress over the stony beach, the feeling of dread begins to rise in Astro, Tobias, and Milo. They know that they have pressed their luck and can only brace themselves for the balancing of nature’s laws.

Well, they need not wait too long because a horrible sight bursts from the lava sea and looms over their heads. Three ancient fire wyrms rise from the fiery sea and aim to capture their next meal.

Each fire drake finds purchase with their strikes and the rest of you only see the feet of three fellow wanderers sticking out of the mouths of these creatures as they retreat back into the fiery sea.
OOC:
I only rolled dmg against Milo bc the minimum was going to be 2hp no matter what which killed Tobias and Astro.
Astro’s last thought was how it seemed that the draconic foe was aiming for Fortune until just the last moment.

Rolls

Atk vs Astro - (1d24+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

Atk vs Tobias - (1d24+2)

(22) + 2 = 24

Atk vs Milo - (1d24+2)

(24) + 2 = 26

Dmg vs Milo - (1d5+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

May 27, 2026 11:18 pm
OOC:
btw-these magma wyrms roll on the Dragon Crit table with any roll 22+ so….
For flavor, Tobias had his head crushed in the dragon’s mouth and Milo was pierced through by its tooth. Extra damage too but that’s overkill.

Rolls

Dragon crit - (2d8)

(26) = 8

Slane and Army are already becoming inured to the horrors of their surroundings and only make sure to walk further from the beach.

Fortune closes Martila's eyes and then turns to the others with wide eyes. "She saved all of our lives from those giants, and she may still save those of us who remain! We must go towards the cyclops. That must be the eye she spoke of!" She begins leading the way to what is surely their salvation.

The way out of the heat and away from the lava seems a slow incline with very few moments of great effort. Still it takes time and drains energy slowly.
OOC:
Everyone has reached a state of exhaustion. Unless you have rations on your character sheet OR you want to roleplay how you think your PCs will find food (based on occupation and/or equipment), then all rolls until rest and food are down the dice chain. The dice chain is one of my favorite mechanics in DCC. Instead of advantage/disadvantage, you roll up or down the chain of funky dice. In this case, you now roll 1d16 for everything.
OOC:
Also, if any PCs wish to scavenge for useful items, you may declare it and roll a Luck check. UNDER means that you find something useful. If you narrate whether you are looking for a weapon or something that can improve your armor class or something else that might be useful, I’ll take that into consideration for what you find if you succeed.

With the loss of his companion, Wingnut, Hessarion is in lower spirits as he trudges through the unrelenting heat. Blanketed in sweat and feeling exhaustion gnaw at his muscles, he stops in place to search the area for anything to eat. He uses his heightened senses to help.

Berlotte was doing slightly better than the rest of her companions, drawing honey from the jar she had kept and slurping it down to ease the hunger. She fast walked to the closest pair ahead of her, which happened to be Slane and Army (appearing worse for wear) and offered some of her stock. "Please, take some."

Tully kept close to Melba after the insanely brave dwarf carried him to safety. Out of kindness, she paced herself a bit slower to wait for him as he struggled to keep up. "Come on, halflin'. Yer made of stronger stuff than this." She was distinctly aware of her experience surviving a famine in her youth.

Rolls

Hessarion looking for food - (1d16)

(1) = 1

Stee hearing what Fortune is saying responds"What if she meant the eye of her storm? That seems a bit more plausible then running to a fire cyclops."

Nathan and Jeptha both nod in agreement with Stee and hope to keep moving. This heat will kill them all before long and they must get out."SOUTH, south is the way out of this unbearable heat."

Jermyn winces at the pain of bruised ribs as the group travels, and huffs with exertion. "I have a feeling that whatever she saw with the second sight was not in the direction of that...thing."

"Aye," Magnar pants, "you'd have more wits if you laid in the jaws of a dragon. Let's take stock of our surroundings. See if there's anything useful."

"Agreed."
OOC:
Jermyn will prioritize looking for food and water. Magnar prioritizes weapons or tools.

Rolls

Luck (Magnar) - 9 - (1d20)

(1) = 1

Luck (Jermyn) - 7 - (1d20)

(10) = 10

May 28, 2026 4:39 am
Hawthorne nods to Magnar. "Agreed." He readies his short bow and attempts to use his hunter instincts to look for any kind of food for the group.

Conrad and Eldarin attempt to search for anything else useful with the others. Conrad begins to try to organize the group into search parties to better cover more area while Eldarin mostly just follows along still muttering prayers under his breath.

Rolls

Hawthorne Searching for food - (1d20+1)

(2) + 1 = 3

Eldarin luck - (1d20)

(5) = 5

Conrad luck - (1d20)

(12) = 12

May 28, 2026 5:04 pm
Fortune grumbles about how nobody ever listens to the 'Cassandra' and now they're all going to die as she glumly trails behind. She scrabbles a bit for anything useful, and Slane and Army join her.

Rolls

Fortune Luck Check (9) - (1d20)

(14) = 14

Army Luck Check (11) - (1d20)

(14) = 14

Slane Luck Check (9) - (1d20)

(8) = 8
