That looks good to me. The reason I used a regular img tag instead of style/logo was that the latter didn't show up when I added it. In retrospect though, that's probably just because I wasn't looking at an actual character sheet yet. I'm still learning how the site works.

One minor change (I'm fiddling with the format on Magnus's sheet): let's center the section headers. It looks neater. Also: Thanks for the assist!

True. I can come up with a more generic banner if somebody needs one.

I do not see our sheet coming up as an option under 'custom' systems. Is my system messing me up somehow or is this something we need to report? I tried on two different browsers with the same result.

Huh? Idk how to put my sheet on custom sistem option.😅

I was under the impression that they should become available when you post them in the public repository. Unless I'm misunderstanding the video here.

...and I figured it out. For it to appear in the custom list the sheet has to be enclosed in a pair of [snippet="Freeform Universal" ... [/snippet tags. For some reason the [charsheet = "..." tag doesn't do that but it DOES create a character sheet if you click on it and name the character. I'm still figuring this site out. 😅

Here I am, with a few thoughts and some information.
First of all, unfortunately I almost always post from my phone even though I write the original text on my PC, so there are no limits to the content, but I might run into some formatting issues.

I’m referring specifically to the character sheet here. Since FU is, thankfully, a fairly minimalist system, I’d start by creating the shhet without much formatting, just adding the main content, and then spruce it up later when I can access the site directly from my PC.

As for posting by 10 a.m. Central Time in the U.S., that shouldn’t be a problem. That should be 5 p.m. where I am (sometimes 4 p.m., depending on whether daylight saving time is in effect or not). So, in short, I should be able to manage it. Maybe there will be some weird overlap when posting on weekends due to the time zone, but in the past, this hasn’t been a problem.
As for the character, I’ll write in Session 0.

Welcome to the party, both of you! I look forward to seeing what kind of characters you're running.

Speaking of scheduling and timing, it may be worth pointing out that the [IC] Finn's Crossing] thread is there in case anyone wants to do some low-stakes roleplay or storytelling along with some character or world building. Everything there is considered to be 'before the dungeon' flashback material so it can be useful for when we want to play in between turns. Possible uses include exploring town and/or expounding on the relationship(s) you listed on your character sheet (or will, when you fill it out).

Just don't forget to also make your moves when the dungeon crawl starts. 😂
Apr 25, 2026 6:59 pm
I took a closer look and saw that you had written 10 p.m. And not 10 a. m. (those Anglo-Saxons and their habit of not using the H24 format :D).
Anyway, 10 p.m. is 5 a.m. here where I am. It might cause a bit more confusion on weekends, but I should still be able to post by that time even on Fridays.
Apr 26, 2026 12:05 am
The hope there is that you'll have most of a 24 hour period (during the weekdays) to post, but I can probably adjust if necessary. I have a pretty flexible schedule, just need to make sure I spend some time on other projects. Which is why I probably also won't post a lot on the weekends.

I'll try to leave everyone with a suitable cliffhanger post on the Thursday or Friday before, though. 😄
Apr 28, 2026 3:42 pm
A quick note: I'll be away on a business trip starting now and all day tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to post. Or at least, I won't be able to post long posts.
In the meantime: I've already found the prequel to the adventure in the Finn's Crossing thread quite engaging, and the description of the battle with the cyclops interesting (if I can, I'll post a few questions there later).
Apr 29, 2026 4:09 am
No worries, as long as we know you're still interested! I'm glad you enjoyed the bit of backstory I concocted. I figured since I already had an example character up, I might as well use him for something.
Apr 30, 2026 4:55 pm
Hi, sorry, but yesterday's business trip really knocked me out and brought on a bunch of ailments.
I wanted to post some changes to the character draft and make a few comments on Aline's character. But I'm too exhausted. If I feel better over the weekend and have time, I'll catch up then. Otherwise we will "see" on monday.
Apr 30, 2026 5:12 pm
Don't think there's much of a rush, considering the game is at risk of fizzling already. What is the plan anyways? Do we want to recruit more people?

Aline says:

I was hoping for at least three players but I think we can make do with two PCs plus an NPC if we need to. I'll poke the interest check thread again in a day or two. Sounds like we can use the weekend to discuss character generation further.

May 9, 2026 12:21 pm
I hope your family commitments are enjoyable rather than a hassle. See you on Monday to begin our exploration of the mysterious dungeons that lie beneath Finn's Crossing!
May 9, 2026 4:38 pm
Enjoy the weekend! I am doing so too 😁
May 11, 2026 4:24 pm
Ok, I've added a few details about the world to our Library thread and a wrote up a short prelude to our quest for the Finn's Crossing thread. It's unlocked, by the way, in case anyone wants to make an in-town introductory post. That's completely optional, though.

Feel free to complete your initial purchases or other business in town.

Tonight I'll set the scene and unlock the Into the Darkness IC thread, which is where our quest will unfold. If there are still blank spots on character sheets we can fill in the details as they're needed. We are, after all, playing to find out!

Happy hunting...
May 11, 2026 6:07 pm
Cool! I'm looking forward to it. I should be able to make an initial post today or tomorrow.

I still need relationships for my character. Can I leave them blank for now and fill it in when I get a good idea later on?

TheGenerator says:

Yes! Any blanks left can be filled in as the need or proper inspiration arises. @Tartarosso was also wanting to coordinate some initial purchases, feel free to work that out in this thread or Session 0 and optionally narrate in the [IC] Fin's Crossing thread if you want to roleplay the result.
May 12, 2026 2:19 pm
If you're okay with it, I think we could do a little pre-descent roleplaying while we're in town, in parallel with the dungeon exploration. Does that sound right to you?
May 12, 2026 3:01 pm
I'm down for that :)
May 13, 2026 4:29 am
I might be a little slower than planned to respond this week. My brother brought home a case the the yucks and it latched on to me, so my focus is somewhat... split. I won't get too far behind though.
May 13, 2026 5:53 am
Get well soon!
May 13, 2026 6:14 pm
Don't worry, get well soon! I don't know what the equivalent saying is in English, but we have a saying: "the one that goes slowly, goes healthy and goes far away". So let's take it slow and steady. And then, as the paradox (Zeno's? I don't feel like checking right now) explains, the swift Achilles can never catch up to the tortoise.

Thanks for the well-wishes, you two. Apparently I needed a lot of sleep to get me focus back. Guess I wasn't expecting it to hit me that hard! Sorry for the delay; hopefully I'm done hibernating and can work on moving the fiction forward again. :D
May 15, 2026 8:03 pm
Unfortunately, I almost certainly won’t be able to post anything this weekend. My daughter is having her First Communion, and between all the preparations, the party, and the religious ceremony, I’ll be lucky just to make it through. 😅
See you on Monday.

No problem. Enjoy the party! ☺️
May 19, 2026 3:07 pm
Now you should find my character as a public page.
The sheet has'nt any fancy element but the substance is there.

Hastali

Unfortunately, I have limited time to dedicate to PbF, and I almost always post from my smartphone (today was an exception, so I uploaded the sheet).

I'd still like to modify it to make it more aesthetically pleasing. But as I said, I don't have that much time to devote to experimenting on this site. Could someone please post a guide on how to modify the card in the same way as @DocLeadfoot ?

So maybe, when I post again in a few weeks from a PC where gamersplane isn't blocked, I'll fix it.
May 21, 2026 7:29 am
I can help you with that, Tartarosso. There is actually a guide for character creation, submitting and posting already.

However, it's a little outdated. Here are some updates:
Step 3a: Create a Character
Most games and players use the 'custom' type of character sheet these days. They are much more versatile.
The easiest way to create a new sheet is to use a template that someone has posted. I can't see your character sheet, it doesn't seem to be public. But in case you need it, here is my character sheet. You can use the "create character" button to add a copy of it to your character repository and then edit it as needed.
[ +- ] Mart
Another important new this is that this sheet uses fillable fields which can be edited without using the "edit" button of the character sheet.
This one: https://i.imgur.com/EjvxmAl.png

In fact, it's usually a bad idea to edit the sheet with that edit button unless you need to change the structure.
The only time that you need that edit button is to change your character name (as it will be shown in your game) and to add an avatar image.
https://i.imgur.com/qmpTCex.png

Keep in mind that any changes you make in the preview tab on the image above will NOT be saved! Only changes made in the non-edit view are saved.
Step 3c: Editing Characters After Creation
Quote:
4. The book icon adds this character to the Character Library so that other people can view the character sheet. This icon turns red when that character is in the library, and is grey otherwise.
This book icon is a bit buggy. It doesn't always go red when clicked. The only way to be sure is to refresh your character library page. If the book is red on refresh, then it's public.
When you have all that ready and working, you can continue with the information at
Step 3d: Submitting Your Character
Quote:
First you'll want to go to the Games page and click on the name of the game you want to submit the character to.
Instead of going to the game page, it's usually easier to go to your game's forum and click the "Game Details" button in the bottom right. Although the old way still works as well.
https://i.imgur.com/ZBpF109.png
All this is possible on mobile, although it's a bit more annoying because you sometimes have to click on small icons.
[ +- ] Some extra useful info
Hope that helps! :)

May 22, 2026 9:54 am
Ok, sorry. Getting sick (along with a few other things) distracted me a bit more than I hoped it would, I guess. I should be good now. Hastali is approved.
May 24, 2026 2:24 pm
One observation: @TheGenerator I think we need to make a map. How can we have a shared one? Also, who's going to draw it? I'm terrible at maps.

A very basic option is to use tools like Drawio or similar. But if there's something more suitable, I'm happy to use it. We'd also need to share the file, such as on Drive, OneDrive, or similar services.
Last edited May 24, 2026 2:28 pm
May 24, 2026 9:45 pm
Hmm. I hadn't thought of that.
Maybe a shared google draw? That way we don't need to download and upload it every time.
I'll see of I can make one tomorrow. Today has been pretty busy.
May 25, 2026 4:29 pm
@Tartarosso I've created a map on google. You should be able to edit it via this link
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1wicQQxWiGOFbdS9HD_jTXJTNElpCJ7XFMSYPcngNzuY/edit?usp=sharing"

In the IC thread, I've added a map in that sticks to the bottom right of the page. You can open it to see.
What do you think?
May 26, 2026 11:36 am
Thank you! I can see it. I've also seen that a plus sign has appeared in the forum with the map.
Out of curiosity, how have you made it?
May 26, 2026 1:49 pm
It's a CSS trick that you can do in most BBCode forums.
I got it from another game where a the GM was using it. Basically, it's abusing the color-tag to add some styling that isn't in the style menu.
The down-side is you need to post it again on every forum page. You'll notice that it'll be gone when we go to a new page. But I'll add it whenever I notice it's gone.
This is the code:
[color=";position:fixed;display:block;width:675px;max-width:100%;max-height:85%;bottom:40px;right:0;z-index:1000;overflow-y:scroll;"]
[spoiler="Map"][img]https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/e/2PACX-1vQ0gD9lAlOHGgC267E8SSFOkZ5tKn9Z3HvbNisTE8Y9Nkxv94kbNv6iJ6GgcBkKhoVuWZJjerCbsOvS/pub?w=960&h=900[/img][/spoiler][/color]

The image itself comes from the google drawing. You can "publish" it and Google gives you a link that you can use like an image. That's the img-tag in the code above. And it even automatically updates, which is pretty neat. You don't have to repost after changing the image.

Not sure how much you know about web design.
May 26, 2026 2:58 pm
If you talk to an ordinary non-IT person they will tell you that I know a lot about it, if you talk to the developers I work with as a Technical Business Analyst they would probably tell you that I don't understand anything about it 😁
May 29, 2026 3:28 pm
Sorry, but yesterday and today were two very busy days at work. Besides having the weekend ahead of me, Monday will be a long weekend because Tuesday is a national holiday here. So I might not be able to post until Wednesday, though I'll try.

May 30, 2026 1:52 pm
No problem. I'll already post in that case :)
Jun 2, 2026 2:48 am
As none of us appear to be in a hurry, I have opted to wait for Tartarosso. We can move things along if he becomes unable to participate at all this week though.
Jun 2, 2026 5:28 am
I'm still here. I'll post something sometime between 15 and 16 hours from now on. By then, it'll already be Wednesday morning here.
Jun 2, 2026 5:12 pm
Correction: I don't know why I wrote 15 or 16, but it was actually 15 or 16 plus 12 (that makes 27 and 28).
There are a few more hours between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. the next day.
Sorry, but those "holydays" were pretty exhausting.

No problem. Having some experience with play-by-post, I’ve come to realize that it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
It’s about sticking with it over the long haul, not about posting a lot in a short amount of time.
Jun 4, 2026 1:11 pm
Agreed :) I'd rather have a long slow game than a fast one that ends on page 3
Jun 4, 2026 1:13 pm
@Tartarosso, did you manage to get things sorted with your character sheet? Need any help? Since we've got some time anyway, I'm happy to help out.

Still dealing with some stuff on my end. It's been an... interesting... week. Will hopefully have the focus to add my response within a day or two.
Jun 13, 2026 1:49 pm
How's it going @DocLeadfoot? If we need to put this game on hold for life reasons, let us know :)
Jun 14, 2026 6:46 am
Hello! Got hit with a bit of a double whammy this week (multiple in-family health issue, we're all alive though). Planning to resume this week (thinking today or tomorrow), assuming nothing else blows up. Fingers crossed.
Jun 26, 2026 9:36 pm
Gotta say, I'm still having a good time in this game. Hope it's the same for you both :)

How are you feeling about it as the GM, DocLeadfoot?
Jun 27, 2026 10:47 pm
Good overall. I'm interested to see how the story and the dungeon crawl influence each other as we get further into it. I have some ideas about it but we're also playing to find out so anything can happen, really.

That said, I'm going to have to pause things for about a week due to some medical issues the family is dealing with at the moment. Thankfully, no one's about to die (as far as we know!) but some surgery is involved and my attention will be needed elsewhere for a bit. I expect to be available to continue after that, we'll see how things go.

In the meantime, feel free to use the Finn's Crossing (or other) threads to chatter about what you'd like to see in the game or otherwise stay connected to the story, setting, game system, or otherwise.
Jun 29, 2026 9:14 am
Hope the surgery goes well, Doc!
Jul 4, 2026 8:39 pm
I reckon it's time for an update. It's been something of an exhausting week for the family, but the patient is in good spirits and might even be coming home this weekend! \o/

Thanks for the good thoughts and well-wishes, guys.
Jul 5, 2026 12:42 pm
Happy to hear it, Doc :)
Thanks for the update
Jul 17, 2026 5:05 pm
I'll resume the story on Monday.

No response yet, so I think it'll probably be a no.

Waiting on Tartarosso to make the next post.

I hope everything is ok.

Yeah, same. Sometimes life happens. Let's wait and see

I'm so sorry. It's been a tough week between work and being sick (I was knocked out, but nothing serious). I should have let you know. I'll post today.

I know the feeling. Glad to hear everything's ok.

No worries. Get well soon! :D

Ok, I rolled the new situation early this morning but fell asleep before I managed to write up the result and post it. Oops. :/
The good news is I'll have that result up today.

Hehehe. It's all good :)

Sorry for the delay. I'll post this evening. I'm having a tour of London and the days are being a little busier than I thought.

No worries, take the time you need.

I'll still be here when you get back
Aug 29, 2026 5:00 am
Hmm... do we need to pause or did I just break the game somehow with that last move?
Aug 29, 2026 8:23 am
All good on my end. Should be able to post this evening.

Would be nice if we can speed this game up a little. I believe the initial idea was 4 posts a week, so roughly every 2 days. I've also missed that deadline a few times.
Can we recommit to this or do we need to adjust expectations?
Sep 1, 2026 11:12 am
Yes, sorry. I'm getting back on track. Both now and in the future. I'll post in the next few hours.
Sep 2, 2026 5:40 am
Yeah, was going to try and post a result to the parlay attempt earlier but for some reason the website wasn't loading. I'm still down for 4 posts per week, life permitting. If it doesn't I'll post here if I'll be (or have been unexpectedly) away for more than a day or so.

Awesome, guys! Thnx.
Of course, sometimes life happens :D No problems there.

Not sure where @Tartarosso went. They've presumably got life taking over again. I hope everything is okay. Please let us know what's up when you can.

Since the game does need to keep moving, I'll make the best decisions on Hastali's behalf that I can (without using up resources) until we hear back.

My schedule is still pretty flexible, btw. I can revisit my available response hours if reviewing and responding at other hours would be more convenient for the players.

Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I’m going through a really exhausting and hectic time, balancing work and home commitments. Nothing serious, thankfully—just the usual pace of life right now! Having to handle everything from my phone makes organizing posts even more complicated.
Since I’m not sure when things will settle down, I’ve reluctantly decided it’s best for me to step away and leave the campaign/game. I want to apologize for keeping you waiting, and I truly appreciate the time we spent together. All the best, and happy gaming to everyone!

@Tartarosso
Here's hoping everything balances out and you get some time to relax!

I'll keep Hastali with the party if there are no objections; if things settle down before we're finished and you want back in you'll be welcome to resume your spot at the table. In the mean time, best of luck and thank you for playing with us!

Sorry to hear it, @Tartarosso :(
Don't worry. Life happens. We all know how it can be.
Hope everything gets back on rails for you though!

Unless we can find more players, I think we should unfortunately call it here then, @DocLeadfoot. I liked RPing with both of you, but a 2-person game is not what I'm looking for, honestly.
Sep 15, 2026 6:15 pm
I'm happy to leave the game open to pick up again at a later date, if that's an option
Sep 15, 2026 6:39 pm
Yep, one-on-one changes the vibe quite a bit. We can leave things open for a while in case something shakes loose.
