Old-Growth strides along the edges of the flowers, relishing in their scent, as he lines up the angle on the further of the Duplicates. He figures Vorza can take the one near him.

Bringing up his machine gun, his flower blooms in happiness as he lets loose with a burst.

Not trusting the things to go down with a single shot he hops back to take cover behind the pillar.

Khizar, you brace yourself against the crushing recoil of a machine gun, your textured, organic frame shifting with exertion. You unleashe a blinding volley of glowing tracers toward a shifting, shadowy duplicate. The devastating hail of bullets tears through the phantom, leaving only empty air and dissipating smoke. The rapid thrum-thrum-thrum echoes across the battlefield, yet the apparition remains unscathed, laughing silently as the weapon's barrel glows white-hot and your desperate barrage misses the true target.

LUNAR-17's Actions:

Action 1: LUNAR-17 uses Occultism Skill.
Action 2: LUNAR-17 uses Occultism Skill.
Action 3: LUNAR-17 uses Occultism Skill.
LUNAR-17 engages her mystic subroutines, calculating geometric chalk patterns mixed with quicksilver. She chants a localized banishment liturgy to disrupt the shadow clone’s tether. By projecting a vacuum of raw, unnatural void, it forcefully collapses the shadowy duplicate's unstable wavelength, permanently severing it from our reality. The shadowy duplicate begins to dissolve into thin air and disappears.

LUNAR-17 attempts to use her mystic subroutines on the other shadowy duplicate however, it smirks at her when she fails and continues its movement towards Vorza who is now closest.

In a last attempt, LUNAR-17 trys something different but continues to use her skill in occultism to hopefully disable the last remaining duplicate by sealing it away from this reality. She emits sub-audible frequencies specifically calibrated to the esoteric wavelength of the shadow duplicate. LUNAR-17 projects a barrier of cold, non-reflective light, and it traps the shadow within a confined space. She then uses an incantation that overrides the shadow's quantum and magical tether, pushing it beyond the veil of this current dimension. The figure becomes smaller and smaller and then winks out and disappears.

Vorza made a snorting sound, "What? All gone! Nothing left for me! Well, the next time we are facing something, I will go first."
Jun 13, 2026 1:48 pm
Old-Growth slings its gun over its back and its vines unwind from their usual limb like forms, spreading out and waving as if testing the air all around for several moments before solidifying back into a more humanoid form. He turns and wakls towards the center of the room to join the others.

"What all that?" he queries their minds.

Everybody make a Computers or Diplomacy check please!
LUNAR-17 on that roll of 17 and Tapkey on that roll of 22, you both Gather Information and learn that Tier-99-Professor worked at Polytechnica’s Central Archives alongside an assistant nicknamed Eruco.

The two information gatherers share their newfound information with the others and you all head over to see what you can find out from Eruco at Polytechnica's Central Archives.

A complex of archives, servers, and museums acts as reference libraries for Polytechnica’s analysts and researchers. Central Files collects digital and hard copies of physical media—antique scrolls, vintage vids, and starmetal circuitry etched in ancient stone—plus enormous virtual libraries explored by immersive viewing pods.

Nanopress, paper, and other physical media are stored on the ground floors; specimens are contained in basement levels, and holoprojector chambers on the upper levels connect to an extensive virtual library, with digital copies of all records and objects housed within.

Public access to everything except the virtual library is restricted.

Scholarly attendants and librarians manage the many collections and conduct research with guidance from their peers (and Insight Array). Staff are mostly anacites, androids, and SROs living in the utilitarian "ports" nestled alongside the curve of the main campus, with a few organic transplants visiting or assisting with research part-time while living in off-site apartments.

You are free to explore Central Archives and browse the publicly accessible virtual library, which contains a preview of everything stored within the massive facility, but getting anywhere with an investigation requires authorizations that you as visitors just don’t have.

Vorza looks around and shakes his head, "This place is never going to let us in. This is totally for the intellectual peoples and their constant bickering of what is old and what is new. It makes my head spin, and I just want to get out. But our search led us to this place, so probably something is here linked to the Professor. So we have to find out about this assistant named Eruco." He looks around to see if he can find someone to ask.

https://i.imgur.com/ABT0q58.pngIt is not long after you begin to inquire about Eruco that a friendly anacite worker, turns up and invites you all down to Vending Services for a chat. You follow the anacite.

Located in the basement, vending services is a large room full of vending machines offering everything from prepackaged ready-to-eat "R2E" meals to consumable medical supplies. Cafeteria-style tables provide dining space, and a set of washrooms down the hall offers a place for organic students, professors, and visitors to do their biological functions.

A glass door opens to a small courtyard containing a surrealist xeriscape and rock garden. In speaking with your guide, you learn a rumor about "The
Prof" acting erratically at work before leaving for deepsync. It is not long before you meet with Tierny’s colleague Eruco who comes out of a small corridor. Your 'host' anacite leaves and you meet Eruco.

Eruco, short for Erudite-Collaborator (excitable agender anacite researcher), recalls Tierny’s most frequent conversation topics were the First Ones and the wreck on Akiton. For the last few weeks before their shutdown, they were preoccupied with a mysterious stalker who they believed was following them.

After security foiled an attempted break-in (but never caught the perpetrator), the professor insisted the item they were studying be moved to a more secure facility. The "transistor" relic was placed in Archive 404, a high-security containment warehouse for dangerous or especially precious relics, along with two other objects classified as "orb" and "piston."

The next day, Tier-99-Professor entered deepsync to analyze their research, they must have experienced shutdown during that time. Eruco suggests that you start the process to get permission to investigate Archive 404 immediately, as it could take some time to get clearance. Eruco’s knows nothing about the murder, is surprised to hear of it, and genuinely wants to help the you solve the mystery on behalf of their dear colleague.

Before the you depart, Eruco brings up Vazylyza, who he recalls hassling Tierny in the time leading up to his disappearance. She kept loudly offering to buy priceless First Ones relics for her personal collection—and Tierny wasn’t the only First Ones researcher she harassed. She was persistent enough that she was able to win a relic from a disgraced researcher in a gambling bet, according to rumor. Eruco knows Vazylyza likes to gamble at Magenta Amusement Orbital Plate, known as just Magenta to locals, a hovering night club built on an orbital plate that slowly travels Striving.

If you have no questions, Eruco bids you farewell and returns to work.

Old-Growth has questions. "Where is 404 found? Who controls access?"
Jun 16, 2026 2:48 am
Archive 404 is a secure facility deep in the basement levels of Central Archives. Only a few authorized security staff have access to the facility.
Jun 16, 2026 7:56 am
"You were very helpful Eruco! I really appreciate your efforts. We will inform you about our investigation progress... But last thing to ask... do you know anything about being called Zirem?" - Jaedana asked very interested in the answer.
Jun 16, 2026 3:39 pm
"Who should we give our request for access to? I would hate to have it go to the wrong place."
