JAEDANA:
Computers is a skill. With any skill, there are a number of things you can do with that skill. With the Computers skill you can Access Infosphere, Operate Device or Hack Each skill has certain requirements to be able to use the skill. So you roll a d20 and add your Computer bonus to the roll against a DC to determine whether or not you suceed and just how successful you are.

COMPUTERS (INT)
Computers is your ability to work with computer systems and some technological equipment. Even if you’re untrained in Computers, you can use it for the following general skill actions.
• Recall Knowledge (page 190) about digital and virtual equipment, digital hazards, computer programs, and vidgames.

HACK
EXPLORATION
Requirements You have a hacking toolkit.
You try to access, control, or change an active secured system. In most cases, this attempt is made against a local computer system that you access directly or indirectly through use of a hacking toolkit. Attempt a Computers check to determine if you can access the targeted system. Computers with improved systems might require multiple successes to access.
Critical Success You access the system, or you achieve two successes toward accessing a system requiring more than one success. You leave no trace of your tampering.
Success You access the system, or you achieve one success toward accessing a system that requires more than one success.
Failure You fail to access the system or achieve any success toward accessing a system that requires more than one success. Some computerized systems might have security measures that activate on a failure.
Critical Failure You activate specially ingrained security protocols or completely lock yourself out of the system. Being locked out of a system prevents you from attempting another check to access it for the next hour.

So if you have a Hacking Toolkit, you can HACK the Tier-99-Professor's CACHE.

As Jaedana didn't have Hacking Toolkit, she was eagerly looking at her companions to see if they should even bother with this beautiful Cache.

Old-Growth has no datapad, nor much interest in acquiring one. He studies the structure, vines and pods drooping in sadness, for it reminds him of the greatness of his friend who despite being an artificial creature strove to become one with nature. He breathes in the fragrance of the small flowers and quests towards them telepathically--the Professor had long reminded him that machines could have souls of their own.
May 21, 2026 8:49 pm
Vorza blew air through his nostrils and said, "I don't know nothin about this damn sophisticated computers. I don't have a data pad too!" However he tried to think about whether it reminded him of something.

Rolls

Recall knowledge check - (1d20)

(8) = 8

May 21, 2026 10:02 pm
Vorza, on that Recall Knowledge roll of 8, you do not remember any information.
May 24, 2026 7:22 pm
Nitpick smiles. "Let me try working on this cache."

Rolls

Computers - (1d20+7)

(15) + 7 = 22

May 24, 2026 7:24 pm
While the others attempt to hack the Professor's terminal, Old-Growth will ask Shalalamula if the Professor has had any other visitors come seeking him recently, as they have been going to discuss his absence with their 'classmates'.
May 24, 2026 9:12 pm
Nitpick, as you approach within 10 feet of the plinth, circuitry glows and swirls within the fractals in time to some erratic pulse. Outwardly appearing to be a serene monument, the plinth is actually a locked container that you connect your personal computer to the cache.

On that Computers roll, (I assume HACK), you succeed and hack the console. You decide that first it might be appropriate to look into the Memoroy Storage as its the best way to track what has gone on before.

You discover that Tier-99-Professor’s latest activities are self-reported in the memory storage, along with a kaleidoscope of infographic and sensory memories about various topics and experiences with time stamps that seem to span about 3 months of his daily routine. His only recent
activities were study and rest.

The last time Tier-99-Professor used this memory storage was after charging two weeks ago, during fulldark. You also discover an encrypted file that will require you to hack again in order to access any information it holds.
OOC:
NITPICK
Make another Computer Roll to hack the encrypted file.
May 25, 2026 4:45 pm
"Going well so far, give mea bit more time to get details, but it's been at least two weeks since the last time this stored anything."

Rolls

Computers (Hack) - (1d20+7)

(18) + 7 = 25

May 25, 2026 9:53 pm
Nitpick, on that Computers (Hack) roll of 25, you access the encrypted file.

TIER-99-PROFESSOR Memory Storage ENCRYPTED
[ +- ] MEMORY STORAGE
May 25, 2026 10:06 pm
Nitpick, now that you are in, you are able to unlock TIER-99-PROFESSOR's by executing the open command.

OPEN: Object Storage

Tier-99-Professor’s crumpled chassis is curled inside the Object Storage bin in a tight, hunched posture as though they were protecting their vitals and face from an unseen attack when they shut down. One of their hands clutches a note, printed on nanopress and folded with dozens of precise folds to resemble a tiny boat.

May 25, 2026 10:48 pm
Old-Growth's flower blooms at Nitpick in appreciation and his vines flash through a complex sign of thanks. He sends his thoughts towards the others. "Boat strange. Message itself? Dock? Or only water here, sea of glass."
May 25, 2026 10:58 pm
OOC:
Given what you have found in the object storage, is there anything else you do? A question for all of you!
May 25, 2026 11:59 pm
As you investigate Tier-99-Professor's body, Old-Growth, you see that he is dead and can’t be brought back. He has no vital signs after shutting down two weeks ago. He is so well preserved, with most areas of his body undamaged, that it requires careful examination
to determine their cause of shutdown.
OOC:
OLD-GROWTH:
Give me a Medicine or Perception check.
May 26, 2026 12:12 am
Old-Growth examines the Professor's body carefully, strange that it is not life but so similar to it.
OOC:
Ugh

Rolls

Medicine - (1d20+5)

(1) + 5 = 6

May 26, 2026 1:09 am
Old-Growth, on that Medicine roll of 6 you don't seem to notice anything out of sorts on Tier-99-Professor's body.

OLD-GROWTH:
Make an Arcana, Occultism or Religion check for me please!

Also, if anybody else would like to make these checks, then go ahead and roll.
May 26, 2026 1:34 am
OOC:
I've got no Skill bonuses for those, so I'm rolling Religion which is base Wisdom

Rolls

Wisdom - (1d20+2)

(4) + 2 = 6

May 26, 2026 1:42 am
OOC:
OLD-GROWTH:
Unfortunately, you did not succeed with that roll either.
May 26, 2026 1:45 am
"Cannot determine, why he wilted and died." Old-Growth projects sadly.
