Perkele glances around, looking towards anyone who might cast a side-eye at any of the group. Trust no one, he thinks, seeing only other cars to run off and obstacles in the way. No one, except the few who know you.

Keep it steady! Get higher, I can't see! Oh, there he is! Huh, doesn't look much like a racer.. - when the organizer spots her and does the "slowly pull eyeglasses down to check you out" move, she straightens her back and gives him a salute. Then she uses Morgan's ears to remove control the butler back to her car. Hopping off his shoulders in one smooth elegant motion, Thessa looks over the car.
Pretty bird. - she says to Morgan. Let's make her fly high tonight. Thessa nods at Perkele and gets into her car. After a quick check and a bit of twiddling with the seat, she is ready to roll.

The crowd surges to one side as car-after-car drives off the lot onto Thunderbird. At this time of night, at this corner of the long road that spans the width of Phoenix and some of its suburbs, the roads are light with traffic. An unsuspecting cab cross the finish line, never to know how close to death they drove.
Cars line up three across, and your coterie makes up the very back line making the initial start against the odds for anyone not trying to run some fucker off the road.
It is a pair of people who come out to stand amid the cars. They each carry bright, colorful pom-poms. The two mortals give the cars a cursory scan, look to one another...and then dip their heads and wave their pom-poms and we're off to the races.
Cars tear down the corridor, a solid third already breaking ahead of the rest of the pack while the rest jockey to maintain control. (Against the Odds for anyone rolling +Duplicity or Allure).
Another reminder that you can still change your minds on your Move here, and even pitch a wholly new approach not covered by these Moves. Upper Hands might be dolled out with some creative thinking as well. Presently, there are two Against the Odds at play:
- One for everyone, starting in the back of the line up
- One for any player rolling with Duplicity or Allure as you navigate around the gaggle of the slower races playing as roadblocks.
Have fun and remember: do not trail off Thunderbird if you want to be counted a winner. You need 1 success to be in the top 4, and 2 successes to win the whole thing.

What did Ally Morgan care if she didn’t win this race? She was still riding high from the groups last… excursion. There were others around her, hungrier, needier, colder and dryer and closer to their second grave than Ally would be in a good long while.
She hits the floor on her pink ride, zipping this way and that in the telltale showiness of a new racer. She was here to build her cred, feel a buzz, and not sink too much into the city while the other drank their fill.
She brings her car up close to the other, getting level with them at the window. She winks, smirks and lets out a tittering laugh that only she can hear as they race through the streets.
"Go! Go!" she screams, urging them on even as she pushes her own car on.
"Win something! Feel something!" she says, her skin still flush and her heart still hammering.
And yet… even with the race, was the sensation not a little reduced, rather than enhanced? If only a fraction…
Just showing up to the starting line throws others into a lurch. They overthink things or begin to sweat when they see you approaching on their rearview mirror and they make dumb choices as a result.
If you succeed, you win the race. You lose D3 Chaos and the win the heart of the crowd. You might draw in big winnings from the bets placed or someone who cares about the Deadraces becomes enamored with you (or at least less hostile).
If you fail, you lose the race anyways. You lose D3 Pulse and D3 Chaos, as other racers just see you as something that is all flash, no substance.
On the off-chance you Flatline as a result of this move, you won't be vulnerable to Banes.

As the race starts, Perkele switches tracks and pumps the volume back up, trying to find some semblance of life as he tears down road, keeping right behind the closest car. Perkele sticks to the bumper of the car in front of him before deciding to go all in and ram this fucker off the road. He puts his foot fully down on the gas to run into this car, and attempts to drive it out of the race.

Flying past wrecks and broken bits of the other cars, that scrape the hull of her Toyota, Thessa feels the time stretch. The frontrunners rush ever forward, gaining time and distance, while she plays it safe in the back. She grits her teeth. This dour mood put her in a defensive stance. Made her weak. And is that what she is? Another useless sack of rotting flesh clasping the wheel with her delicate fingers? No. She breathes in, stepping foot in her usual zone, submerging her mind into an ocean of cool, sharpening her senses to the limit. The pedal goes down to the floor and the white devil surges forth.
With light movements, the leather gloves slide along the professional drive wheel, and the car flies, a white eagle among the mass of dirty little pigeons. Narrowly escaping collisions, performing miraculous (to the amateur's eye) squeezes and grazing the destroyed piles of metal, just inches away from joining the losers, Thessa leaves the heap of her competitors behind, joining the front ranks of the middle group. But there are no thoughts. Only a singular inhuman focus remains. Drive. Avoid. Around. Left. Any mortal who'd see her face now would likely be paralyzed with fear - her eyes wide, pupils covering most of the iris, jotting left and right with an incredible speed and her mouth hang agape, with fangs on open display.

The race started with a clear split between those who live to ride and those who ride to die (again), much to the party's chagrin. The languid movements of the slower racers suffocated the race for the first few miles.
Perkele jostles one rider in particular to the side: a forest green 2001 RX-7 FD with a driver who was just breaking away from the pack. The car gets nudged into a spin that even Perkele might not have been expected where it swerves left and firmly off into a patch of desert, disqualifying its pink haired driver off. The last thing Perkele's sees of this driver in his rear-view is a woman stepping out and waving the bird at him before other drivers sneak up.
This includes one Thessa. For several miles Perkele and Thessa ride neck-and-neck, peeling incrementally away from the all the other racers. Ally on the other hand finds herself at the head of these deadweights, but never quite able to get an edge over them.
The race moves on and everyone tears down the road. About halfway through—when Thunderbird East becomes West—a sleepy cop sits at the intersection, watching the fastest racers tear through without a concern in the world. Instead, he bites into his donut and mindlessly scrolls through the latest conspiracy news when a figure darkens his window. He lowers it, makes to ask if there's a problem but as he stares into piercing eyes his own grow milky and white and a dark, ugly thing fills his heart.
A minute later, as the back-half of the racers tear through, the cop radios the race in, flips on his sirens, and joins the revelry down Thunderbird...
This is it. Ten more glorious miles between you and life. Perkele and Thessa can even see the taillights of the racers up head—it seems that the Black Rider takes up the rear of the top three racers and its on your approach that you realize that the hearse is skimming along air itself, making seemingly impossible weaves through the heavier traffic to close the distance. The effect of powerful sorcery to be sure.
There is a shift but this one not of gears. A quarter mile behind Perkele and Thessa is a large semitruck ramming through cars like a homing missile as it barrels towards our racers.
There's an upperhand for anyone who risks serious damage to their ride by describing a cool stunt (e.g., flying off some sort of ramp).Meanwhile, chaos reigns in the remainder of the back of the pack. Ally has managed to secure a firm lead among the three remaining drivers. An orange Hyundai a dozen feet behind rolls down its passenger window and a person with armed with...something, it's wholly unclear but it does seem vaguely gun shape. They level it on Ally's ride and a moment before it could be used, lights of red and blue arrive on scene. The Hyundai swerve, their posture hesitating as an argument erupts between passenger and driver. One of the other racers peels off Thunderbird wanting nothing to do with this.
Four. Four cops have joined the race but they do not aim to win. They'll overtake the driver in the back, and maybe even catchup with the orange Hyundai, but Ally? Unclear.
There's nothing for or against rolling Duplicity or Savagery, but a success with those stats mean landing top 4 and losing the cops.

As far as Ally's part of the race is concerned it's an Upperhand when rolling Allure. Posture and rep is everything and there's a mild game of chicken be played here...but it potentially brings heat down on the other racers if Ally doesn't gun it or get clever. There's nothing for or against rolling Duplicity or Savagery, but a success with those stats mean landing top 4 and losing the cops.

Now it was a party. Looking in the rear view mirror, Ally’s eyes light up in red and blue. Her pink car is basks in the light of the city’s emergency responders.
This was a way for Ally to build her rep, win or lose.
"Let’s have a little fun with the boys in blue.
She pulls the handbrake, bringing her car into a full 180 turn so that the teeth on the front of her car are now facing back towards the four, pursuing police cruisers. She puts the machine in reverse, and stamps her foot down hard. She can see their faces now, the officers, and they can see hers.
She throws up two middle fingers at the cops; her foot still pressed down hard! This was a high speed gambit.
"FUCK YOOOOU!" she laughs, putting her hands back on the wheel and bringing the car back into another turn; this one to right herself and get back in the race.
She’s among the police cruiser’s now, having lost some ground with her maneuver. She begins threatening to bash into them, before hoofing it once again.
Now was the time to get herself up on that podium… even if she could only manage third!

Perkele remembers this feeling. Some annoying psychedelic head he partied with called it "flow state." That moment you feel like every moment is natural, every choice you make the right choice. And so far, it has been.
Perkele is still on edge from the rough last couple weeks, and tries to swerve into the ease, the natural. There’s a natural law to these races, a pattern in the chaos. Perkele drifts into curves, weaves between gaps of cars like it’s where he’s meant to fit, because he is. His car has always followed this path, was meant to do this.
And he wants everyone to see how he does this with ease.

Carefully weaving through the traffic, Thessa finds the tightest spots to pass through, the side of her white devil scraping against the plebeian vehicles on more than one occasion. The cars signal, drivers swearing heavily from the open windows, as her mad maneuvers cause more and more jams and soft collisions - a veritable chaos on wheels. She sees Perkele doing the same, but her focus is peeled to the road, even the frequent stop/gas combos not affecting her concentration. The blaring of the truck behind, which mows down car after car, shakes her awake, a predatory smile spreading across her face.
Finally, a challenge!Thessa puts her palm on the horn, alerting the normal drivers to the danger behind. Terrified of the sight in their rear-view mirrors, the cars in the front to swerve to the side streets and off the road, just to avoid certain truck-induced death. The tires screech, pedal down to the ground, and the white Toyota shoots forward, barely dodging the slowpokes who are yet to fully get off the road.
The front-runners dash across the Thunderbird, thundering across the West road, with the semi raging hard on their tails. Thessa's car lights blink on and off, inviting the madman for a deadly dance. Seeing a turn coming up, she begins to taunt the semi's driver, flying just few dozen feet before them - just about to get obliterated, but always out of reach. She pushes her car to the limit, trying to capture the madman's eye, lull and seduce them into this lethal competition, make sure that they keep pushing the gas and not slowdown as the turn comes ups.
Just before her racing beast rolls onto the turn, Thessa swerves to the side, cranks the handbrake to full and begins to drift, trying to make the turn, hoping to have enough room to avoid the truck and make it drive off the road.

There is a pulse, faint but electric, though you do not feel it in your undead hearts. You feel it in the vibration of your rides, that charge that dances across your skins raising hairs, beating against your chest even when your heart does not.
Like twin dancers, Perkele and Thessa navigate through the traffic with ease. Car horns blare and the only pedestrian on Thunderbird at this hour is nearly struck while a car veers into a gas station lot.
He stumbles out into the street, damns the driver, damns the racers, and screams, "You nearly killed m—" before the semi runs him down.
The semi with its cab wrapped as an irridescent pearl, now marred with flesh blood. The semi with its windows so tinted as to be nearly blackout. The semi that barrels down on Black Rider who swerves out and off Thunderbird to avoid being fishtailed.
The semi which now hounds Thessa. But Thessa is her own stampede. As cars cut left, veer right, or get absolutely winged by the semi's unrelenting drive forward, the large hauler somehow gains on Thessa...
Just before her racing beast rolls onto the turn, Thessa swerves to the side, cranks the handbrake to full and begins to drift, trying to make the turn, hoping to have enough room to avoid the truck and make it drive off the road.
And off road it goes, shrieking into the night skies as it jumps a curb and rolls at nearly full speed toward a building. Thessa continues her peel as West Thunderbird becomes North Thunderbird, Perkele not too far ahead and Ally not too far behind. She can even make out Black Rider and the other top two racers: Wrencher and Echo are neck-and-neck...the Sun City church, the finish line, not too far beyond them.

Ally zips ahead of the police cruisers, moving this way and that down the long race track. She’d never pushed her car this fast before, and before long even the red and blue lights begin to dip into the distance; the officers happy to pick off the slower racers tonight.
The city moves by in the blink of an eye. The car feels like it might come apart, and one wrong move would leave Ally in a million pieces scattered across Thunderbird. She’s about to ease off, until she sees the Black Rider, and knows that she’s got herself in contention!
She pulls up alongside the mysterious driver, and looks across. Were she a more aggressive driver, a dryer vampire, or seeking a greater thrill, she’d have bashed her car against theirs, testing to see whose is the strongest.
But she wasn’t hungry tonight, and so she is content to simply try and beat the Black Rider to the finish line!
