It's All Happening Tonight...

Summer 2025
To many mortals, the Valley of the Sun is a sun-bleached hellscape that only gets hotter every year. It's a nearly neat grid of intercrossing streets that cars brazenly race down every day, where engines and spoilers roar and crackle as cars of all makes and models tear down its streets.

Night belongs to whatever chill can be mustered in the air and the Dead.

A Convent of the Dead claims Dominion here. They hold midnight masses that pervade the Christian religion. They proselytize to the desperate Dead who've lost their Passions. They persecute the heretic "pagans" out in Glendale and Tempe. They are the Transubstantives who claim that Undeath is a return to life in a perfect, eternal form. That the blood of Christ flows through their veins, and as Christ suffered for humanity, so too must they suffer.

Phoenix is a bloated thing, having amassed the continent's largest population of the Dead. Year-by-year, the Dead have fewer joys as the Convent curls its fingers around their throat, suffocating the Dead. As the Dead tear up the streets in a growing scene for Deadraces, the Convent conspires to suffocate the Passion out of this as well...
OOC:
It’s All Happening Tonight… is how sessions of PTTR kickoff. Every character has a short scene that shows how you've been spending your time. This is decided by your Pulse and Chaos, which you've already rolled for your character.

To get a little ahead here, I'll go ahead and roll this for everyone (then update as needed in this post). If you have a super cool idea for an entry, you can totally pitch that instead by either posting it here or coordinating in the OOC thread. If you'd rather be involved in another PC's situation, you can instead post toward that.

Whatever winds up getting played will be resolved over just a couple of posts before we start the main crux of the session.

Update:
- Jenny: You are up in the face of some fucker, ready to start a brawl
- Perkele: You’re in a bed (or a coffin?), sleeping it off.
- Ally: You’re at a party and things are about to get weird.
- Thessa: You are alone somewhere sulking. You really did fuck it up, didn't you?

Even over the steady drone of music filling the room, Ally Morgan could hear her heart hammering in her chest. While she hadn’t been dead as long as the others, she’d been dead long enough to forget what that felt like. Rosy cheeks and a beating heart; it felt like being alive.

She almost-glides through the crowd, moving this way and that as she desired. She closed her eyes, and focused on the rhythmic thumping in her chest. The music, the dancing, the people (the living and the dead), the smell of blood and piss and booze all faded into the distance as Ally Morgan got to taste just a sliver of what used to be.

Thump… thump… thump…

A sound made all the louder by the sudden lack of any other noise; this absence real and not imagined. The music cuts, and while the lights stay down, the crowd shrinks back into stunned and sudden silence.

Ally, irritated at being drawn from her revelry, looks for an explanation. Then, she sees them:

"Tch… Fucking Transubstantives!" she whines, with fangs bared for a moment in annoyance.

A black car with near illegible text decals spread over it - reading, to a discernible eye familiar with the fonts of metal bands, "Perkele" - rests, engine cool but the exterior of the car warm from a day in the Phoenix air. Inside the renovated back of the car, a coffin. Inside the coffin, Perkele, sleeping off a string of nights of expending himself too much.

He knows he should get up, get back at it, get some blood flowing.

But the rest is so nice. He still isn’t used to Phoenix’s oppressive heat. But he can’t wallow forever.

He crawls out of the backseat coffin, the white and black of his corpse paint mask smeared and streaked, but he can’t bring himself to care.

Maybe I’ll see what Jenny is up to.

Ally
A moment sits, ugly and uncalled for, as the room stills. Bursting into the room were a handful of them, the four of them in laughable cosplay: they wore tunics and hoods and cowls, drab and brown things that practically looked fresh out of a bag of Halloween costumes. One of them even had a bell that they were raising to ring when Ally shouted:

"Tch… Fucking Transubstantives!"

That's when the tension in the room shifted. Standing all around Ally are some of the Valley's most vocal dissenters. One of them—introduced to Ally as Leland—reaches over to grab an empty bottle out of a friend's hand. Other hand cuffed on one side of his mouth, he shouts over the heads of everyone else, "Fa-fa-fuckin' losers! Fuckin' BOOOOO!"

The bottle goes sailing through the air but Leland doesn't stay to see if it actually hits someone. Instead, he turns towards Ally, grabbing her by the wrist and begins cackling as he tries to lead her the other way, out the back. His hair, wild and long and all so very green, flows behind him; for a moment, this one pretty and sweet, the lighting catches the glitter on his face just right...

Perkele
How is it this late at night and still so fucking hot. Perkele rises to find his limbs are stiff and leaden, and would find that his coffin seems all too tempting a place to just lay one's head down should Perkele dare to look.
OOC:
Perkele, what town did y'all last party in? What went wrong there?

Ugh.. Gimme another one! What? Of course I'm 21! Fucking look at me! Or what, my GREEN AMERICAN DOLLARS not good enough for you? Fucking hell.. - Thessa slams the glass on the counter and glares at the bartender. The little dive-bar at the edge of the city line was a total shithole. Whack crowd, watered-down drinks, smelled of.. everything. She'd recon she could vomit if that was still an option. Though maybe it was just the mood.

The sound of her phone ringing pulls her out of the dark thoughts, slowly spiraling into a moody bog of boredom and irritation. The pulls the phone up and looks at the screen. Who the hell is it? Of course it was him. Her butler. The annoying bastard could never read the room. Granted he wasn't in this one, but that fact should've clued him in. She pressed the red button and put the phone back in her pocket, downing another shot, while sipping on a large jug of nasty tasting beer.

The phone rings again. Thessa pulls it out of her back pocket - again - and hits green this time.

WHAT? What? No, I'm not at the bar. Shut up Morgan. Of course I remember about the races. Ugh.. Yes, I remember the time. I'm dead, not demented. No, it's not because of what happened at the last race. I was perfectly fine, top of game! I DID NOT FUCK UP YOU DIMWIT! No ramen for you! No, I'm not sulking alone somewhere, I, just so you know, am having a fucking blast right now! Partying my pants off. What, where are they? They're gone! That's how hard I'm partying! What's gone? The pants, dammit! Whatever. Know-it-all.

Thessa hangs up and smacks the phone on the bar table. Stupid prick.

She turns on her chair and takes in the audience. What a sorry sight.. - she thinks as her gaze slides across drunk townies. Her eye catches a lonely brunette, sitting all by herself at the table. Their eyes meet and the brunette looks away, playing coy. Well.. She's alright, I guess. I need some pick-me-up before the race anyways.. Grabbing her phone and beer, Thessa moves to the brunette's table and half-an-hour later, they're in the brunette's pick-up (because of course it's a pick-up), testing its suspension system, see if it can hold the passion. As the brunette about to scream to her boyfriend's name (who was a no-show tonight), Thessa sinks her fangs into her neck.
Apr 9, 2026 5:31 pm
Thessa
The blood, warm and sweet, fills you the way few other Passions ever could. The truck can, indeed, take the Passion, as she initially tries to thrash about, the brunette's scream stuck as a lump in her throat, never to come pouring out save as a little whimper.
OOC:
Thessa, does this become a goddamn mess? If so, then take D3 Pulse and 1 Chaos and tell me how.
Jenny
OOC:
Where is Jenny this night?
Apr 9, 2026 7:00 pm
The sweet red is rushing down Thessa throat, her hand in the brunette's pants. On the peak of the wave of pleasure, some asshole interrupts the good going, slamming his fist against the pick-ups side.

Jecky! What the fuck! What are doing with that bitch! Get out here! - the asshole keeps pounding on the car, while bitching at the two of them. The mood obviously ruined, Thessa hops out of the truck and makes her way to the asshole.

What, you wanna go, huh? Well, come on, let's go asshole! YOU CAN'T TAKE ME! I AM INVINCIBLE! - she screams, high on the blood and adrenaline in it, as she pushes the guy, trying to provoke a fight.

COME ON! LET'S DANCE YOU FUCKING REDNECK! - the battle-cry is heard thorough the bar's parking lot, as Thessa is about to unleash hell upon the dimwit that interrupted her fun. He goes for swing, but she is quicker and ducks right under his arm. With a lightning fast move of her hips, she buries her knee deep in his privates. The man lets out a high pitched squeal and falls down, clutching his cracked pearls. The brunette, half passed out from pleasure and blood loss, looks confusedly out of the window. Several patrons have exited the bar and are staring at the unfolding drama.

What'cha looking at?! You wanna go? You better not! - snipes at them Thessa, as she gets in her car and drives off into the night.

What a goddamn hole! Well, at least there was some action. Those famous races better be good! With those thoughts, Thessa hits the gas and speeds on to the rendezvous point with the others.

Perhaps the Holy had turned up looking for converts to baptize into the faith. What little Ally had heard, they were just as eager to baptize the heretics, too; drowning being one of the final deaths of the vampire. She didn’t hang around long enough to find out, as she lets the hand lead her away; the pressure on her wrist reminding her of that steady beat that lay within her chest.

Once fresh air replaced the stale and the smoke-filled of the club, she slows a little:

"Nice throw! Those creeps just can’t leave well enough alone!" she says, with a puff to blow some hair out of her eyes.

"Where are we?" she says, unafraid but simply unfamiliar with the city.

It isn't much of a view, not this late at night. The midrise apartment building sits just outside the northern edge of downtown with an impressive view of the I-10. The heat of the day has barely chilled, but there's a cold there for those who want it.

Leland rolls his neck, nonchalant like, eyes gleaming with the full moon. He is like you but different. He's what the Dead would call a werewolf—vampires with a reputation problem—and he looks ready to explode, his Pulse so damn high. "Pft., where at the start of a good night," he says, craning his head back to look up at Mother Luna, "A very, very goodnight. Let's go!"

And so he dashes forward and begins scaling the wall down. Later, as rubber hits road, you'll remember telling him about the Deadraces, about he how he'd only just heard about it and got a ride of his own...word is, there's a race tonight. The biggest one yet. He'll wonder out loud that it wouldn't at all be surprising to hear that a werewolf was behind it.

We'll PAINT THE TOWN RED when I get to posting in the morning.
Apr 11, 2026 1:06 pm
Paint the Town Red

A crowd musters brazenly in a lot off of E. Thunderbird Rd. Dozens have gathered tonight, mostly the Dead but there are plenty of mortals as well. At its center are a small line of cars where small huddles form around to check everyone's ride, the riders themselves the center of their own little world.

Nearly a dozen riders are here outside of your racing circle, but there are only three riders that people are sure to blow the rest of the water:

Wrencher, a Dead his forties who leans coolly against his red '70s Mustang Boss 429, one arm around another man pressed up against him and his freehand absently playing with his butterfly knife.

A little ways down in her own world is a younger Dead by the name of Echo who works both the crowd and last minute checks on her engine for her gunmetal Silverado, perhaps the newest ride on the lot by far.

Last but not least is a rider clad all in black, helmed with their heavily tinted visor brought all the way down. No one knows who this rider is, but they've been decimating the competition these last few races in their clearly supped up black hearse with the green under glow. Some call them the Black Rider, others the Reaper. Despite the allure, people keep their distance from this so-called Reaper who stands stock just waiting on the edge of this whole affair.
OOC:
@KCC,@reversia.ch,@haditbeenwater,@ClericalError87 y'all arrive at roughly the same time. What does that look like? Show us your ride.

Ally stands beside her hot-pink, sleek little machine. She revels in being the center of attention, if only for the checks required to gain entry into the race.

She rests a hand on the car, and makes small talk among those impressed by the thing. She was a new racer, truth be told; with no wins under her belt. But tonight would be different…

She feels the brush of skin, cold and warm, against her own. Her blood is high, and her senses so keen that she can feel the tiny bristles of arm hair against her pale skin.

"Remember this face!" she says, with a titter meant to elicit confidence. "You’ll be seeing it up on the podium tonight!"

Everyone hears Perkele before they see him, and that's how he likes it.

The music seems louder than comfortable, excessively abrasive and confrontational. His matte black Mustang comes into view, his own name decaled on the side in a way that seems like someone's taken keys, or a knife, haphazardly into both sides of the car, scrawling over all of its edges like lightning, like lichen. To most it's unreadable, just seems like damage.

Taking in the scene as he pulls up, he notices the Black Rider. I won't be one-upped by someone else all-clad in black.

He slows to a stop, rolls his window down, and glares at the Black Rider. His corpse paint still streaked, still a bit of a mess, he turns down the music.

"Try not to get in my way." He revs his engine, puts his fingers back on the knob. "It won't be a good time for you."

He cranks the music back up, pulling his signature brooding expression back on.

Still pissed about the night's going so far, Thessa's mood improves somewhat as she pulls out to the parking lot in her.. regular gray sedan. Driving through the gathered chaos, she finally feels in her element. A plain dressed man who was standing in front of a white japanese decked cherry gets in his car to follow, when he sees Thessa pass by.
[ +- ]
Both slowly cruise the parking lot before Thessa hears the audial tremor signaling the spot where her crew's gathering - the nasty, blaring black metal. She parks near Perkele's defaced Mustang and Ally's bright pink Porshe.

Damn, you weren't kidding about that paint job.. I SAID YOU WEREN'T KIDDING ABOUT THAT PAINT JOB - the harsh metal riff swallows the last few word of the sentence, as Thessa gestures for Perkele to cut down the noise, hoping that he's satisfied with having announced his arrival to the Gods above and below. They must've heard that..

Behind Thessa, the white racer parks, its sharp carbon spoilers ready to cut the winds. A man with a look of perpetual annoyance steps out and approaches the group.

Must we always endure this harsh cacophony, Master Perkele? Why not listens to Vivaldi or Bach? Something to soothe the soul, not irritate it?
Apr 12, 2026 8:19 pm
reversia.ch says:
Must we always endure this harsh cacophony, Master Perkele? Why not listens to Vivaldi or Bach? Something to soothe the soul, not irritate it?
Perkele turns the nob down - still loud, but manageable - and glances over.

"I'll take it under consideration, but I find I drive my best on an irritated soul." He leaves the volume at this level, and adds, to Thessa, "And good to see you, I hope you've had a better few days than me."

He turns his head to address Ally. "Well, you seem... alive. I like the confidence. Let's leave leave all these fools in the dust."

"I’ve never felt more alive!" Ally remarks, and lets some light catch on one of her fangs. For the few among them who weren’t dead, the inside joke would go over the heads entirely.

Of course she’d felt more alive at some point, she just couldn’t fully remember when.

"Why aren’t we racing already?" she says to the huddled mass around her!

The mood in the crowd shifts and so too do the bodies, a school of fish being ushered along as a new ride enters: a black Lincoln Navigator rolls in slowly, a shark in the water. Out of the back of the car steps a person who immediately fills the scene with a swagger not yet seen tonight; they look the type that some might call a trend setter. The crowd goes quiet; it's clear the locals know the person.

"Are we ready?" they ask, hardly projecting their voice but the crowd roars anyways. Patiently, they wait for the whooping and hollering to quiet. "Tonight is going to be the biggest race we've had yet and, darlings, when I tell you that they are going to hear it tonight I mean it." Once more the crowd erupts, some yelling their feverish agreement. The mortals among them are equally as charged, though one might wonder how much they actually know. "We race in ten. Our longest one yet, from here all the way down Thunderbird until we hit Sun City Church and blow the roof off these streets," their voice continues to build as the excitement begins hitting a crescendo, "Tonight, there are no rules but one: you stay on Thunderbird. You trail off for any reason and you're out. Racers, I'll see you at the finish line!"

A pair of drones are deployed over head from the back of the Lincoln. They swivel this way and that, taking in the crowd and then zipping away to make a stop at each and every racer's ride. The person, whomever they are, lingers a bit near their car, almost immediately enveloped by a small entourage.

OOC:
@KCC,@reversia.ch,@haditbeenwater,@ClericalError87 You've some time before the race starts, but not a whole lot. The race will happen along the entirety of Thunderbird until it punctuates far into the west at a church. What do you do?
Apr 14, 2026 2:20 pm
Oh, Morgan, shut up, you big complainer. You won't be satisfied until there's an orchestra playing live. And no, I did not forget about my promise. We're going to the opera, later. Thessa quickly shuts her butler down when he begins to complain about Perkele's choice of music.

Nah. Been kinda annoying. I'm ready to burn some rubber, that's for sure. - she says to metalman.

Why are you so chipper? Usually you're the one moping. Mhm.. - with a look of coy suspicion, Thessa will trot over to Ally and look at her from below (being shortest of the group). Did I miss something? Did you have some mighty good fun, m?

After the Lincoln personage finishes hyping up the race, Thessa lets out a low whistle.

So, this is the big boss then? Let's go check 'em out. Couldn't see who it was with all the people around. Ey yo, Morgan! Kneel down, I'm gonna ride you. Stop looking at me like and get down. Your shoulders will be fine. Or I won't be able to see anything! - she gestures to the crowd already gathered around the race organizer.
Apr 14, 2026 9:59 pm
Perkele breathes in the still warm air, rolls up his tinted windows, and turns the music back up. He is still feeling miserable, hoping the race will help pump some blood back into him. He watches all the pomp and circumstance, and reflexively sneers. He lets out a scream - no, a shriek - along to his music, not caring if anyone can tell he's doing so. He rolls his windows back down and yells, "Let's fucking go!"
Apr 15, 2026 12:28 pm
"We'll have to chat more after the race, honey," the person says, cupping a racer's chin (one of the many other racers not expected to pull out a win). They do a lazy impression of a wave that a model at a beauty pageant might do with the crowd, looking from left to right while proffering luck and good race and all that jazz when, finally, they spy Thesse heads-and-shoulders over the crowd.

They pull down their glasses to the tip of their nose, other hand on hip. A soft invite. Their body says, "You're interesting what do you have to say?" and yet the slight turn of their body toward the door would also add, "If you have something to say, make it quick."
OOC:
We might be coming up on our first stat check here. I won't call for a roll yet; I want to see what Thessa has to say and how they say it, but Thessa might need to roll to avoid this NPC leaving—assuming it becomes important that Thessa steals them away for another minute or two.

For other players, feel free to also approach, check the scene, or do something that you think might give you what the game calls an Upper Hand during the race.

Ally flashes conspiratorial, knowing eyes at Thessa, and then comments on the newcomer.

"Captivating, isn’t he?" she says, more statement than question. She wasn’t too proud to admit that she’d been caught up in the moment, like the rest assembled!

She motions with her chin almost imperceptibly at the figure vying for Thessa’s attention then, and slips into her pink race car.

Perkele glances around, looking towards anyone who might cast a side-eye at any of the group. Trust no one, he thinks, seeing only other cars to run off and obstacles in the way. No one, except the few who know you.

He makes sure to, at one point or another, make eye contact with the crew. Where others read his dour expression as malice or hatred, his crew knows what it really means: I've got you.
OOC:
As mentioned in OOC thread, I will be looking to run people off the road, aiming specifically for anyone in our way or anyone showing hostility towards us.

Keep it steady! Get higher, I can't see! Oh, there he is! Huh, doesn't look much like a racer.. - when the organizer spots her and does the "slowly pull eyeglasses down to check you out" move, she straightens her back and gives him a salute. Then she uses Morgan's ears to remove control the butler back to her car. Hopping off his shoulders in one smooth elegant motion, Thessa looks over the car.

Pretty bird. - she says to Morgan. Let's make her fly high tonight. Thessa nods at Perkele and gets into her car. After a quick check and a bit of twiddling with the seat, she is ready to roll.

The crowd surges to one side as car-after-car drives off the lot onto Thunderbird. At this time of night, at this corner of the long road that spans the width of Phoenix and some of its suburbs, the roads are light with traffic. An unsuspecting cab cross the finish line, never to know how close to death they drove.

Cars line up three across, and your coterie makes up the very back line making the initial start against the odds for anyone not trying to run some fucker off the road.

It is a pair of people who come out to stand amid the cars. They each carry bright, colorful pom-poms. The two mortals give the cars a cursory scan, look to one another...and then dip their heads and wave their pom-poms and we're off to the races.

Cars tear down the corridor, a solid third already breaking ahead of the rest of the pack while the rest jockey to maintain control. (Against the Odds for anyone rolling +Duplicity or Allure).
OOC:
Alrighty! ICYMI this race will be handled in two rolls. It's possible to indulge or party hard for just one or both of the rolls, but to gain Pulse is to make it a goddamn mess which also means taking one of the options on pg. 20; said option is chosen only once.

Another reminder that you can still change your minds on your Move here, and even pitch a wholly new approach not covered by these Moves. Upper Hands might be dolled out with some creative thinking as well. Presently, there are two Against the Odds at play:
- One for everyone, starting in the back of the line up
- One for any player rolling with Duplicity or Allure as you navigate around the gaggle of the slower races playing as roadblocks.

Have fun and remember: do not trail off Thunderbird if you want to be counted a winner. You need 1 success to be in the top 4, and 2 successes to win the whole thing.

What did Ally Morgan care if she didn’t win this race? She was still riding high from the groups last… excursion. There were others around her, hungrier, needier, colder and dryer and closer to their second grave than Ally would be in a good long while.

She hits the floor on her pink ride, zipping this way and that in the telltale showiness of a new racer. She was here to build her cred, feel a buzz, and not sink too much into the city while the other drank their fill.

She brings her car up close to the other, getting level with them at the window. She winks, smirks and lets out a tittering laugh that only she can hear as they race through the streets.

"Go! Go!" she screams, urging them on even as she pushes her own car on.

"Win something! Feel something!" she says, her skin still flush and her heart still hammering.

And yet… even with the race, was the sensation not a little reduced, rather than enhanced? If only a fraction…

The bright fabric flashes down and it is on. Thessa hits the gas, stuck in a throng of rabid rookies, desperate to get ahead by any means necessary. Instead, she tries to hang back, wait the melee out until the large chunk of the would be "racers" clears the road and she could dash out forth. With an intense focus, wheel squeezed tight in the gloved palms, feet firmly on the pedals, hitting one after another, Thessa maneuvers around the wrecks and evades flying debris - bodies included, as she tries to make her way up the Thunderbird road - to claim that victory, the victory that in her heart she knows belongs to her. Along the way she is also keeping an eye out for her crew - see how they do and if she could cut someone off to give them a boost. Flying past wrecks and broken bits of the other cars, that scrape the hull of her Toyota, Thessa feels the time stretch. The frontrunners rush ever forward, gaining time and distance, while she plays it safe in the back. She grits her teeth. This dour mood put her in a defensive stance. Made her weak. And is that what she is? Another useless sack of rotting flesh clasping the wheel with her delicate fingers? No. She breathes in, stepping foot in her usual zone, submerging her mind into an ocean of cool, sharpening her senses to the limit. The pedal goes down to the floor and the white devil surges forth.

With light movements, the leather gloves slide along the professional drive wheel, and the car flies, a white eagle among the mass of dirty little pigeons. Narrowly escaping collisions, performing miraculous (to the amateur's eye) squeezes and grazing the destroyed piles of metal, just inches away from joining the losers, Thessa leaves the heap of her competitors behind, joining the front ranks of the middle group. But there are no thoughts. Only a singular inhuman focus remains. Drive. Avoid. Around. Left. Any mortal who'd see her face now would likely be paralyzed with fear - her eyes wide, pupils covering most of the iris, jotting left and right with an incredible speed and her mouth hang agape, with fangs on open display.

The race started with a clear split between those who live to ride and those who ride to die (again), much to the party's chagrin. The languid movements of the slower racers suffocated the race for the first few miles.

Perkele jostles one rider in particular to the side: a forest green 2001 RX-7 FD with a driver who was just breaking away from the pack. The car gets nudged into a spin that even Perkele might not have been expected where it swerves left and firmly off into a patch of desert, disqualifying its pink haired driver off. The last thing Perkele's sees of this driver in his rear-view is a woman stepping out and waving the bird at him before other drivers sneak up.

This includes one Thessa. For several miles Perkele and Thessa ride neck-and-neck, peeling incrementally away from the all the other racers. Ally on the other hand finds herself at the head of these deadweights, but never quite able to get an edge over them.
The race moves on and everyone tears down the road. About halfway through—when Thunderbird East becomes West—a sleepy cop sits at the intersection, watching the fastest racers tear through without a concern in the world. Instead, he bites into his donut and mindlessly scrolls through the latest conspiracy news when a figure darkens his window. He lowers it, makes to ask if there's a problem but as he stares into piercing eyes his own grow milky and white and a dark, ugly thing fills his heart.

A minute later, as the back-half of the racers tear through, the cop radios the race in, flips on his sirens, and joins the revelry down Thunderbird...
This is it. Ten more glorious miles between you and life. Perkele and Thessa can even see the taillights of the racers up head—it seems that the Black Rider takes up the rear of the top three racers and its on your approach that you realize that the hearse is skimming along air itself, making seemingly impossible weaves through the heavier traffic to close the distance. The effect of powerful sorcery to be sure.

There is a shift but this one not of gears. A quarter mile behind Perkele and Thessa is a large semitruck ramming through cars like a homing missile as it barrels towards our racers.
OOC:
Perkele, Thessa, driving with Duplicity or Allure against the heavier traffic deals an Upper Hand.

There's an upperhand for anyone who risks serious damage to their ride by describing a cool stunt (e.g., flying off some sort of ramp).
Meanwhile, chaos reigns in the remainder of the back of the pack. Ally has managed to secure a firm lead among the three remaining drivers. An orange Hyundai a dozen feet behind rolls down its passenger window and a person with armed with...something, it's wholly unclear but it does seem vaguely gun shape. They level it on Ally's ride and a moment before it could be used, lights of red and blue arrive on scene. The Hyundai swerve, their posture hesitating as an argument erupts between passenger and driver. One of the other racers peels off Thunderbird wanting nothing to do with this.

Four. Four cops have joined the race but they do not aim to win. They'll overtake the driver in the back, and maybe even catchup with the orange Hyundai, but Ally? Unclear.
OOC:
As far as Ally's part of the race is concerned it's an Upperhand when rolling Allure. Posture and rep is everything and there's a mild game of chicken be played here...but it potentially brings heat down on the other racers if Ally doesn't gun it or get clever.

There's nothing for or against rolling Duplicity or Savagery, but a success with those stats mean landing top 4 and losing the cops.

Now it was a party. Looking in the rear view mirror, Ally’s eyes light up in red and blue. Her pink car is basks in the light of the city’s emergency responders.

This was a way for Ally to build her rep, win or lose.

"Let’s have a little fun with the boys in blue.

She pulls the handbrake, bringing her car into a full 180 turn so that the teeth on the front of her car are now facing back towards the four, pursuing police cruisers. She puts the machine in reverse, and stamps her foot down hard. She can see their faces now, the officers, and they can see hers.

She throws up two middle fingers at the cops; her foot still pressed down hard! This was a high speed gambit.

"FUCK YOOOOU!" she laughs, putting her hands back on the wheel and bringing the car back into another turn; this one to right herself and get back in the race.

She’s among the police cruiser’s now, having lost some ground with her maneuver. She begins threatening to bash into them, before hoofing it once again.

Now was the time to get herself up on that podium… even if she could only manage third!

Perkele remembers this feeling. Some annoying psychedelic head he partied with called it "flow state." That moment you feel like every moment is natural, every choice you make the right choice. And so far, it has been.

Perkele is still on edge from the rough last couple weeks, and tries to swerve into the ease, the natural. There’s a natural law to these races, a pattern in the chaos. Perkele drifts into curves, weaves between gaps of cars like it’s where he’s meant to fit, because he is. His car has always followed this path, was meant to do this.

And he wants everyone to see how he does this with ease.
OOC:
I’ll be rolling with Allure for Riding on Rep, Perkele using the presence of his ride to weave his way through the rest of the drivers.

Carefully weaving through the traffic, Thessa finds the tightest spots to pass through, the side of her white devil scraping against the plebeian vehicles on more than one occasion. The cars signal, drivers swearing heavily from the open windows, as her mad maneuvers cause more and more jams and soft collisions - a veritable chaos on wheels. She sees Perkele doing the same, but her focus is peeled to the road, even the frequent stop/gas combos not affecting her concentration. The blaring of the truck behind, which mows down car after car, shakes her awake, a predatory smile spreading across her face.

Finally, a challenge!
[ +- ] The Fight Begins!
Thessa puts her palm on the horn, alerting the normal drivers to the danger behind. Terrified of the sight in their rear-view mirrors, the cars in the front to swerve to the side streets and off the road, just to avoid certain truck-induced death. The tires screech, pedal down to the ground, and the white Toyota shoots forward, barely dodging the slowpokes who are yet to fully get off the road.

The front-runners dash across the Thunderbird, thundering across the West road, with the semi raging hard on their tails. Thessa's car lights blink on and off, inviting the madman for a deadly dance. Seeing a turn coming up, she begins to taunt the semi's driver, flying just few dozen feet before them - just about to get obliterated, but always out of reach. She pushes her car to the limit, trying to capture the madman's eye, lull and seduce them into this lethal competition, make sure that they keep pushing the gas and not slowdown as the turn comes ups.

Just before her racing beast rolls onto the turn, Thessa swerves to the side, cranks the handbrake to full and begins to drift, trying to make the turn, hoping to have enough room to avoid the truck and make it drive off the road.

There is a pulse, faint but electric, though you do not feel it in your undead hearts. You feel it in the vibration of your rides, that charge that dances across your skins raising hairs, beating against your chest even when your heart does not.

Like twin dancers, Perkele and Thessa navigate through the traffic with ease. Car horns blare and the only pedestrian on Thunderbird at this hour is nearly struck while a car veers into a gas station lot.

He stumbles out into the street, damns the driver, damns the racers, and screams, "You nearly killed m—" before the semi runs him down.

The semi with its cab wrapped as an irridescent pearl, now marred with flesh blood. The semi with its windows so tinted as to be nearly blackout. The semi that barrels down on Black Rider who swerves out and off Thunderbird to avoid being fishtailed.

The semi which now hounds Thessa. But Thessa is her own stampede. As cars cut left, veer right, or get absolutely winged by the semi's unrelenting drive forward, the large hauler somehow gains on Thessa...

Just before her racing beast rolls onto the turn, Thessa swerves to the side, cranks the handbrake to full and begins to drift, trying to make the turn, hoping to have enough room to avoid the truck and make it drive off the road.

And off road it goes, shrieking into the night skies as it jumps a curb and rolls at nearly full speed toward a building. Thessa continues her peel as West Thunderbird becomes North Thunderbird, Perkele not too far ahead and Ally not too far behind. She can even make out Black Rider and the other top two racers: Wrencher and Echo are neck-and-neck...the Sun City church, the finish line, not too far beyond them.
OOC:
Perkele, Thessa, you either tie or one of you comes out on top. Ally, you come in close behind them, finishing in the top 4. What does this look like? Who shares the top 4 with you?

Black Rider could be cool to share the spotlight with. Though how many drivers get to the podium?

Do we assume that the cops got distracted by drivers further back?
Apr 24, 2026 6:27 pm
OOC:
Tentatively, I think Perkele would blaze ahead to really get his Pulse back up, but I'm also up if there's another plan Thessa might want to do!
Apr 25, 2026 6:45 am
OOC:
Thessa would be behind then, having to had to slow down to "play" with the truck. Would the deadly game qualify for Passion indulgence or not really fitting?

I picked a poor passion, in hindsight. Unless Ally wants to break out the Tarot cards on the passenger seat while speeding away from cop cars!

Could be fitting with the religious main group dominating Phoenix. Maybe Ally pops on their radar because of her fortune reading antics and chaos ensues?

Ally zips ahead of the police cruisers, moving this way and that down the long race track. She’d never pushed her car this fast before, and before long even the red and blue lights begin to dip into the distance; the officers happy to pick off the slower racers tonight.

The city moves by in the blink of an eye. The car feels like it might come apart, and one wrong move would leave Ally in a million pieces scattered across Thunderbird. She’s about to ease off, until she sees the Black Rider, and knows that she’s got herself in contention!

She pulls up alongside the mysterious driver, and looks across. Were she a more aggressive driver, a dryer vampire, or seeking a greater thrill, she’d have bashed her car against theirs, testing to see whose is the strongest.

But she wasn’t hungry tonight, and so she is content to simply try and beat the Black Rider to the finish line!

As Perkele gets closer and closer to the end, he sees Thessa keeping up. For a moment, he considers if she needs the win more than he does. But it’s only a moment. Sorry, Thessa, he says to himself before slamming on the accelerator.
His song crescendos as he crosses and he lets out a primal scream, alone in his car. He looks backs to the casket in the back, remembering how he started the day and hoping for better days soon. But he still doesn’t feel quite right. If the race isn’t enough to get me back in the groove, what is?
He steps out of the car, scowl as strong as ever, as he looks around at the rest who have finished in the front of the pack. He nods at Thessa and Ally but turns his attention towards this mysterious driver, paying no attention to the drone above, hackles still raised from feeling dead as ever.
"So, you did enough to keep up with us. That’s pretty good. I’ve heard all sorts of names for you, Reaper, Black Rider. Which one do you claim?"
OOC:
Perkele’s Pulse is still pretty low so is still going to be pretty melancholic. For now, his attention isn’t even on where they’ve ended up but solely on this mysterious rider.

The tires screech, smoking from the tension of hard friction, as the car clears the apex of the corner, drifting away from the danger. The semi piles off the road, and Thessa is ready to loose the fool, unjamming the brakes and hitting the gas, back into the high-speed chase.

Rushing past the Mustang and the Silverado she gains on the magic corpse mobile, running tight behind it. Seizing her chance, she comes up from behind onto the incoming lane and, barely avoiding collision with some poor sod driving home back from work, overtakes the hearse. The only one left to beat, the only car standing between her and victory is.. Perkele! Unfortunately the distance is too high to cover in the time that she has left, so in the end Thessa explodes to the church's parking lot second, pulls hard on the breaks and does a victory donut, taking silver behind Perkele.

She winks at Perkele, giving his battered car a critical eye. She waves Ally over when she and the hearse pull up together.

Hey! Nice work out there! Giving Ally a friendly, commemorative smack on the back, she nods to Perkele's ride. No mercy for his whip, as usual. Maybe he'll finally paints those scratches over, eh? When Thessa sees Perkele approach the driver of the black floating hearse, she tenses up slightly. Is he being friendly or is shit about to go down? Better get ready just in case. And where is that eccentric guy, the organizer? She gives the drone a wave, yelling "'Ey, yo! We're done over here!"
