On a street corner as you wend your way through the streets of Rivergate, two zealots stand next to a white washed sign that reads:
Verinax Comes!
Below the text is a painting of a white dragon.

One of the zealots squats and bangs a flat drum, at the edge of the building; and, the other has a pamphlet, which most are reluctant to accept. He shouts, "Varinax the White Dragon will come soon! And all who do not bow to her will be doomed to face her wrath!" He goes on and on as you pass by.

You see the sign just a half a block away, "The Frothy Mare".
May 3, 2026 10:33 am
Filbur takes the pamphlet. You never know when a piece of paper might come in handy later. "Hmm... Varinax huh? Oi'll keep an eye out for 'er." He says to one of the zealots before moving on.

Jormund pushes on past the zealots and cuffs dismissively. "Come now, come now," he says, "no more distractions." Inwardly, his curiosity needles him to bother Filbur for that pamphlet. Perhaps later, he thinks.

You enter a boisterous tavern. Smoke and the smell of roasted food and fresh bread assials you as well as various other sights and sounds. A minstrel group is playing a gay tune as you find an empty table. You see the menu under a coat of varnish on the table itself.

Before you can order, you see a young lad pointing you out to an older gentleman. The man hands the boy a few farthings and heads over to your table. "You must be the ones who vanquished that Flame Kin. I have something for you," he says and tosses a few small pouches onto the table, one for each of you. You hear the disctinct sound of coin within.
"In there is enough to cover your meal and a night here at the Mare. My thanks to you for handling that creature. They've been a nuisance lately so there is reward for your efforts. I'm with the Mining Regent, so if you'll forgive me, I've a damnable thirst for an Ale. And an eye for Svenka over there," he winks and heads over to a plump blonde woman with a cherubic smile. The crowd parts and closes like a curtain as he leaves for "fairer pastures."

OOC:
Within each pouch is 30 silvers
May 6, 2026 3:39 am
Merik grins wide at seeing the coins, "See, word has spread already. Perhaps we can get more coin by destroying more of these flamekin. But in the meantime, let's be merry!" the big man says with a laugh, giving Filbur and Jormund a hearty pat on the back. He waves down a barmaid to order.
OOC:
I'll grab a miner's skillet and rivergate dark, 5 silver total 25 left.
May 6, 2026 9:55 am
Filbur is not used to having a sizable amount of money and thus quickly overspends, treating himself to a Boar‑Haunch and two Dragonbite Whiskey's which he downs in record time. He lets Fudge enjoy some of the boar too.
OOC:
That's 11 silver used on food and drink.
"I can get used to more o' that!" He exclaims satisfied. " 'Oo is that geezer?" He asks one of the other patrons pointing to the man who gave them the money.
May 6, 2026 10:56 pm
"I'll drink to that, lad." Jormund chuckles, placing an order for food and drink with the barmaid. The hearty stew and crisp, citrusy brew do much to alleviate the unease he had been feeling following the encounter with the flamekin. "The reward for slaying these miscreants isn't half-bad. They must be quite a nuisance for it to be as generous as it is; food and drink and then some!" He leans forward and steeples his fingers, a conspiratorial gleam in his eyes. "I wonder what the purse would be if we found the source of the problem."
OOC:

Huggins's Stew (3 silver)
Witchlight Wheat (2 silver)
Silver remaining (25 silver)
May 7, 2026 1:26 am
The man looks at Filbur.
"That's Wheat. He's one of those what works at the Mining Regent - a coalition. They make sure the mines flow and business gets done. They run Rivergate lad, don't be daft," he says and orders another round for your table.

The Mare starts to get boisterous after a few hours and there is much singing and raucous laughter. A game of Thieves and Wizards has already started a few tables down. You hear the dice rolling and more than few "Oh!"s and "Ah"s. The barmaids are slightly scandalous, but do not tolerate any "hands on" attention. Your meal is exceptional and twilight is near when you notice you have been drinking more than you should have, but the rounds keep coming at no charge to you.
OOC:
A Resist roll is required in order to maintain your inebriated state. 1d20 vs skill level.
Success: You remain lucid for the next 30 minutes and then you will need to roll again.
Fail or No Skill: You decide you have had enough and need to make it to a bed before you pass out.

Also you are more than welcome to try your luck at Thieves and Wizards, or make a Gambling roll either one works.
May 7, 2026 9:03 am
OOC:
Filbur has no drinking related skill
"Soun's like we could 'ave a chat with that geezer about wha's goin on in dem mines." Filbur comments before downing another drink. "But i''ll be fur tomorroh." His speech is getting worse by the minute. "Oi think oi'll go 'ave a li'le kip. Cmon, Fudgy."

He gets up and stumbles his way to the bar to get a room. "Gimme one o' dem ones upstairs."
May 8, 2026 12:47 am
OOC:
Jormund likewise has no resist skill.
Jormund normally paces himself much better, but he gets into his cups quickly today. He wobbles onto his feet, hiccuping, stumbling after Filbur & Fudge, and likewise buys a room for the night.

OOC:
Merik, what will you do next?
May 8, 2026 8:52 pm
OOC:
sorry for the delay, wasn't sure how skills worked and just looked at the rule book. I used the online character app to create Merik, and it never mentioned needing to increase your skills with points, so essentially I need to recreate him, only this time invest points to raise skills. I hope to have that done by tonight.
May 8, 2026 10:43 pm
OOC:
I thought it was a choice to have all of them at 3 😅
Hehe.
May 9, 2026 4:03 am
Merik can usually hold his liquor, but maybe the encounter with the flame kin shook him more then he'd like to admit. He was hoping to play a game of Thieves and Wizards, but the drinks quickly usher him to bed instead.
OOC:
wow, this is way different. Pretty much need to gut everything to get some decent/subpar values. How did everyone else do it, just focus on 1-2 of them? And if you have a value of 0 in a skill, do you just always fail?

You find yourselves unacustomed to the potency of the local brews and soon retire for the evening. The next day you are awakened by a knock on your door. Bleary eyed, you manage to see a pair shadowy feet leaving and just below the crack you see a slip of paper.

It's a note:

Your presence is requested for a luncheon at the behest of Lady Walcrest.
Dress is semi-formal and puncuality is of utmost importance.

There is a wax seal of a W with lavish flourish motif at the bottom.

You look out the window. It is another slate gray sky and hard to tell what time of day it is, but a cathedral bell tolls in the distance and you hear 10 bells. You consider for a moment how much time it will take to find the Walcrest mansion and the right clothes to make an impression. You have about two hours to get ready to meet with the Lady Walcrest...
May 19, 2026 12:29 pm
Fudge is quick to bring Filbur the note. "Thanks boy." He groans as he gets up out of bed. Even though it was one of the best nights he's had in a while, his body always hurts in the morning.

Sitting upright, he opens and reads the note. It doesn't take long before he lets out a bellow of a laugh. "This mus'a been delivered to the wrong fella." He says, not believing any 'Lady' would invite him to a luncheon. He looks at the few coins left in his purse. "Coul'n't even look the par' if oi wan'ed to."

He heads down stairs to get some breakfast while he waits for the others to wake.
OOC:
I believe I have 9 silver left. I'll spend 2 more on a good breakfast.
May 19, 2026 10:43 pm
Jormund is seated downstairs, puffing at a pipe and massaging his temples, when he espies Filbur descending the stairs. "Ah, Filbur," he calls, "I've saved you and Fudge a seat. I'd ask what we did last night, but by the state of you I suspect you don't know either." Jormund laughs and then grimaces, cut short by another stab of headache.

"Mountain's bones, I've not been hungover since I was an apprentice. I suppose you've got one of these as well." Jormund holds up a letter that he found slipped under his door. As the barmaid passes, Jormund flags her down and orders breakfast. At least he isn't nauseous.
OOC:
I also spend 2 silver on a good breakfast. 23 silver remaining.

@TheGenerator Wouldn't you have had 19 silver?
