Good evening... blah blah blah! I don't say blah blah blah...
I was just posting to a rumor out of character that I found funny.
Are you going to post to the game with the opening post - The Replacements?
It's a vampire thing, when in Transylvania.

One. One more vampire joke at the Count’s expense. HA Ha ha ha ha

OOC:
I was planning to have a reply up in the Replacements thread this evening, but I’ve run out of time. I will post it up in the morning. Many apologies.

On the road so I can't look, did the Soviet Union still collapse in the early 90's?

I take it you can read this while on the road....but in the history thread the war started in AUG 1996:

28 February 1999----(snip) Eighteen months ago, the Soviet war machine began a "Special Military Operation", crossing into Romania via Ukraine.

Yes but the wall came down a few years before that so did the Baltic States and Ukraine separate already?

I took it that the Wall did not come down (I could be wrong) and with this game though, Ukraine is the kick off location for the Soviet invasion into Romania.

To answer this question, yes, the Berlin Wall has come down. The Baltic States (Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia) have become independent. Ukraine also separated, but has been under occupation (this has NOT been clearly spelled out in the game history) and has had a very active partisan rebellion going on, requiring it to maintain large garrisons. It is perceived, after the events that led to the Romanian leader, Nicolae Ceaușescu, being deposed (and executed) that Romania was providing support to the partisans. When Romania began serious discussions to enter NATO, it was the last straw and the "Special Military Operation". began

Based upon this information, I modified my background a little tiny bit. Nothing that's gonna change anything other than to provide context for things.

While the meme is AI, this is in fact a several year old story. And always makes me laugh.

Had a breakthrough in the lab last night.

Was playing around with slide pitching and interpolation on a vocal track and created an awesome bass line with some eastern orthodox chants. Mixed a Mongolian throat singing technique to produce the sound.

Then I was like, thats cool.

So I played a Phrygian mode over it. And shit my pants(not literally) at how good it sounded.

Going to title the track Twilight Romania. It's going to be 8ish minutes long. I cannot figure out how to make it 13+ minutes long(EPs tend to sell better for some reason) but an LP single that contains an entire albums sound is good enough for only 5 weeks of time invested into it(so far.)

Thanks for reading my novel.

Were we going to resupply here or is that later? I ask because I have 1 food and 1 water and would like to increase that to at least 1.25 food and water.
😆

There will be opportunities to resupply not only food and water, but other kit will be available as well in the near future (before you start out on the patrol).

To be honest I feel lost with so much equipment ...and I find it no fun to spend like have an hour trying to check what each item really is and what to choose. Don't get me wrong: I appreciate the effort! But: please, can you just give me "the standard list" and what I should note on my sheet? I know that many players love to be so "simulationist" and choose every hat and gloves (and great for them!) , but personally I don't care what kind of pancho my PC will be wearing. I would prefer to just assume that he is ready for the current surrounding environment (or somehow is NOT ready). Only the choice of weapon is interesting for me...

I start to think: Maybe I'm not good fit for this game? :)

To be fair the "equipment list" was just a wall of text for me too. I was never in the military so I do not speak the lingo. I'm was hoping there'd just a standard kit too but I listed some things I want, forgot sleeping bag and glasses / goggles I think.

Also neither of our characters have a military background and if anyone knows how to toss a mountain of shit against an small object it is the American military.

Lets face it if GDW had realized what a complete disaster the Russians have turned out to be in the field they'd have rethought the premise for the game. However in the early 80's they seemed to be a serious threat.

I would say 'ditto' as well as far as the equipment list goes. Unless the GM states otherwise, that this is more a list of stuff we were guaranteed to have in the field in case it matters in game play.

Quite honestly the forces in numbers and total were evenly matched. The problem was positioning. The 8th Guards Tank Army and 1st Guards Army that followed it was facing just the V Corp in the Fulda Gap and it is (sort of) a channel towards Frankfurt.

So at the time the original game came out in the 1980s (I 1st played in Bamberg, GE in 1986) it seemed very plausible that the 2 large forces would grind each other down as the GDW game designers thought.

On the equipment side I have sent a couple of messages to our GM off list and I think all of your comments are valid. 2 themes are coming out, one this is the last shot of equipment before the big collapse and two it is very cold. My feedback is that if the gear is required the setting needs to remind us players of how dang cold it is, so we as the players are writing literally the cold is rattling the bones as our players man guard posts and the like.

I would not drop out yet, lets give our GM time to consume the feedback and make adjustments. He is new and he is really trying with the game.
