good to see you @Nuttyartist ! Looking forward to sharing this adventure 🤠

right back atcha.

So I'm new to the system, and don't want to ask too many questions that I could figure out myself.
However, "Bennies" (which I don't fully know about yet) - how do they get applied to pbp? One reason I ask is if I take the Young hindrance, it provides an extra benny each session.

As for my character, no specific idea ties me down. I could play a cliche gunslinger, or whatever rounds out the group. Maybe a Blessed guy, or a scout. Pretty vague haha
Regarding Bennies, I think we'll count each Thread as a 'Session'.

So will spend time tonight reading the books more closely, but at moment I have these 2 ideas stuck in my head.

a young character- either young hindrance (16 yrs old) or just "young" (18 yrs old).

grew up on a farm, decent homelife, that is until the man who smells of rot ruined everything. Parents slaughtered etc.

Either his dad had a gunslinging past, and passed on some skills (and his revolver), though hoped his son wouldn't follow the same path. That path now lies before him.

Or he had a fervent connection to a guiding being (which manifested at a very young age), a spiritual destiny to be righteous etc. Mature beyond his years, now that he layed his parents to rest he can go about seeking righteous justice, cleansing evil.

How is the group going to get around? Should we budget for horses?

Not a bad thought! Depending on your group you may be starting on a train, a stagecoach or somewhere else, but having your own horses guarantee you have personal transport.

I forgot some of the differences between the two versions, esp arcane backgrounds. Definitely a grittier feel with reloaded.

@nuttyartist, one of my fave dl characters was similar to your concept, a 12yo on the run from the law who was blessed. Lot of fun.

Regarding character concepts, thinking of a gambler (possible huckster) with deep pockets, who got into a spot of trouble (and lost an eye) thanks to our antagonist. Or a classic gunslinger/duelist (as I've never played one before).

For Bennies, how would pulling different colored fate chips work? Do we all just get one of each color, or update it to DLWW rules?

RAW, the chips are drawn from a bag of 20 white, 10 red 5 blue chips.

We could roll 1d35 for each chip:

1-20: white
21-30: red
31-35: blue

So to get my initial 3 chips, I'd roll 3 times.

Not perfect, as the drawn chips are not removed from the bag, but... Close enough? 🤷

We can use that roll then simply lower the dice maximum and skew the results to reflect the newly lessened pool of whichever color was pulled. Or we could update to the SWADE version, ill take a look to see which would be a better idea.

Any thoughts on how our posse of revenge-bent characters could get together (or could have banded together before game start)?

Maybe they shared a stagecoach ride, each following their own leads to track their Man (and all leads pointing to the stagecoach destination)?

Also: they clearly share a common goal - but wouldn't each of them want personal revenge? Is it a contest on who kills the Man first?

My thought is this. Most of you probably ran into TMWSoR (The Man Who Smelled of Rot) some time ago. Could even be years ago, or it could be recent.

All of you though are currently heading to Jayhawk Flats (coincidentally) looking for a man named Reginald Tillinghast, aka Reggie Till, a gambler who you've heard (from your individual investigations) knows something about TMWSoR and possibly his whereabouts.

So after we do individual scenes for each of you describing your run in with the villain, you'll officially start the campaign en route to or in Jayhawk Flats looking for Reggie. You will all run into each other somehow in this search!

I believe i will institute some of the 'Default' skills from SWADE, just to give everyone a little more leeway with skill points so that you have some basics minimally covered.
Could you please flag which skills get a d4 default with this house rule?

(in SWADE they are: Athletics, Common Knowledge,
Notice, Persuasion, and Stealth )

Those will be the ones!

OK!

What do we do for the default d4 skills that are not in DeLuxe and were added in SWADE, ie Athletics (that replaces Climbing Swimmin Throwing) and Common Knowledge (a Smarts roll in DeLuxe)?
[ +- ] changes from Deluxe to SWADE

For what its worth, I'm leaning heavily towards a Blessed type.

We'll go ahead with the consolidated Athletics skill (its messy keeping them seperate).

Common Knowledge is included but if you want specialized Knowledge you must purchase the seperate fields. Common is more, well, Common. And it is linked to Smarts.

Any edges that require those old skills just use the new one!

So I'd better tweak the custom character sheet!

Will add Athletics under Agility, and lose Climbing Swimmin Throwing
Will add Common Knowledge under Smarts

Here is the new character sheet folks, please disregard the previous ones.
[ +- ] Deadlands Reloaded
The Attributes and Core Skills starting at d4 are already ticked, in this version.

where does the Blessed Arcane skill Faith fall on the sheet. Under Spirit presumably?
