OOC: The Beast of Bacrana

Jan 22, 2026 7:09 pm
Welcome to the opening, prequal adventure to my ambitious (yet hopefully successful) Star Wars campaign - The Beast of Bacrana.

As Jedi and Force Users are widely popular on Gamers Plane, and probably Star Wars PBP games across the internet, I wanted to introduce this unique area of the Star Wars galaxy without many restrictions with a one-shot adventure beginning at 'Knight' level play so everyone can really show off their experienced character concepts (meaning Force powers and talents - though Fringe / non-Force using characters will still be given the chance the shine and are equally encouraged).

Use the thread to introduce yourselves, your character concepts, and overall Out Of Character discussions.

I look forward to gaming you you all.

My initial idea is of a jedi investigator / knowledge seeker. What kind of investigator I'm not sure yet - criminal to archology, somewhere in between.
Young, energic and inquisitive, perhaps a bit reckless.

I started watching the Acolyte on Disney+ yesterday, just to get some jedi inspiration. My very first thought is that those rough course robes that they all walk around in, is something my character has issues with. Why rough wool, when fine silk is an option? Its not vanity, is not for comfort, its removing unnecessary distractions. That is my story and I'm sticking to it, when buying luxury goods.

what do you want to play @Furmyr ?
Jan 23, 2026 6:50 pm
I was actually thinking of playing something other than a jedi. Thinking of a doctor who's in debt to some really bad men and has had to moonlight as a "mob doctor" for one of the syndicates. Now he's getting desperate to get out from under their thumb and looking for a nice pay day.
Jan 23, 2026 6:59 pm
I like it. Do our characters know each other?
Did my investigator jedi get hurt and sought you out?
Or did my character give you the push to get away from the syndicate?
Jan 24, 2026 12:52 pm
Could be I have provided medical aid once, and perhaps while you were recovering you again saved me from some rival thugs coming to rough me up.
Jan 25, 2026 1:26 pm
how is the recruting going?
I'm actually surprised that there is so little activity in the recruitment thread.

So I made some noise on the Discord :)

@Furmyr - Not trying to stymy anyone's creativity but if you want a bit of background on the Brak Sector that might assist in your character creation. I can certainly make a 'Syndicate' work and am in no way trying to push you away from that. Just wanted to give you all the information. The Brak Sector initially was the Republic's first go at a corporate controlled sector and well things did not go well as the corporation, the Lant Mining Corporation in this case, did not treat it's employees (anyone living in sector was employed by the corporation) well. So your doctor absolutely could be indebted to the LMC ... and why they would shove him to some mining camp in a barely explored sector. Just some food for thought ...

@runekyndig - I too was surprised. Usually when I launch a SW game it get flooded with requests to join, particularly with everyone wanting to be Jedi. There is a brutal snowstorm on the eastern US so people may be busy digging out, no power, etc..

Recruiting is still going decent though ... and surprising. May have a Skip Tracer and Beast Hunter joining the mix. Might like another Jedi just to have your PC @runekyndig have an 'equal' of sorts to bounce things off of. Is your Jedi a wandering knight errant of sorts? Or based in Coruscant? Obscure outpost?

Seuss
Jan 26, 2026 10:58 pm
I'm that Skip Tracer, unless somebody else wants to be the Skip Tracer...anyway. I see him as more of an investigator than a gunslinger. He could conceivably know a Jedi Investigator, or a mobbed up doctor. Whatever makes it easiest to get the group together. Might even bring on a Beast Hunter for extra muscle.

Are we building starting characters? Or higher level?
Jan 27, 2026 9:09 am
That sounds really good @Kier01

@Seuss I think my jedi is a wandering knight errant of sorts. Past investigations brought @Kier01's and my character together.
I imagine one of their first jobs together secured them nice spaceship that is my characters home

I will start to craft a character tonight. Have you though of species @Furmyr,@Kier01? My first thought is my character is human/very human like

@Kier01 - This is a 'Knight Level' game. So we will be starting at a higher level. Craft your PC as a starting character, then you will have an additional 150 XP to spend.

@runekyndig - I like how the concept is shaping up :-)

That's some Northern Exposure like thing (for those old enough to remember that show). I can work with that, I can imagine he went to medical school on their dime and was hoping for a nice central job afterwards, but instead he was sent to some far off mining camp.

I have him mostly built up in OggDude's character creator. But will have to switch some skills around with the new concept. Also need equipment. Should we start with more than the usual money and how many points for obligation.

I was thinking Human. Especially with my new idea of a guy so far out of his element. A guy from the Core Worlds who's never had any inspiration to see anything but the Core Worlds.

@Furmyr - You can begin with 9,000 credits as part of the beginning of 'Knight Level' play (or more if you want to take on additional obligation). Additional information can be found on page 104 of the Force and Destiny Core Book if you have it. After your character is finalized you will then have an additional 150 XP to spend on everything except Characteristics.

Staring Obligation will begin at 15 (more can be taken on for bonuses as addressed on page 40 of the Edge of the Empire Core Book.

@ALL Players - These additional 150 XP can not be spent to train skills above rank 3 (see page 4 of the Force and Destiny Core Book).

I'm assuming that we have access to a spaceship, is anyone planning to take the relevant skills? Piloting, astrogation, mechanics...?

runekyndig says:

Full disclosure. This adventure is intended to be a one-shot of sorts and the story is confined to one planet, so while a ship may/may not be useful it isn't necessary. Though I would assume a wandering Jedi would have a ship of his own, as well as a skip tracer, though piloting of vessels could be handled by a droid if piloting, astrogation, mechanics, etc. skills doesn't fit your concept. Don't let that hold you back by any means ...

***That being said, if there is interest at the conclusion to continue on with one or more of the characters I have ideas, certainly, to continue into more of a mini-campaign***

My character is an Explorer Big Game Hunter. He specializes in operating in hostile wilderness, tracking dangerous targets, and ending problems quietly. He is not openly Rebel, but has worked with them when goals align. Practical, patient, and morally gray, he brings survival skills, reconnaissance, and precise violence when needed.

@MrCyan - Not a big deal, mainly for your informational purposes, but this adventure will take place during the High Republic era. 138+ years before the Empire and Rebellion. The Trade Federation, Hutt Cartels, etc. are still around, just no Rebellion.

@Kier01 - Like the pic!

Hey gang!

So after seeing this game didn't fill up up after a couple weeks, and being loath to miss the opportunity to play, I threw my hat in the ring and Seuss graciously accepted.

I'm hearing we have:

A medical doctor (likely an Intellect focus?)

A skip tracer (which on it's face is kind of a social skill focused bounty hunter?)

A Jedi (looks Cunning focused)

And a Big Game hunter (likely an Agility focus?)

I'm not really seeing any "gaps"really in general skill coverage. I guess Brawn as far as Characteristics, but that's not much of a skill gap besides melee (which our Jesus Jedi probably is ok at).

I was thinking I'd do a droid coming into it. And I think I still like that seeing our group composition.

I was thinking about at an Intellect based character, and I don't think that changes either since Intellect covers a broad range of skills, maybe I'll just lean a bit into the non-Medicine ones slicing, crafting/repair, knowledges?

I could go a little meat shield-y too to fill in Brawn since that's natural for droids. And since Brawn is also Athletics maybe I'll look at some mobility/physical exploration options?

Anyway, those are my thoughts!

Excited to be here!

Looking forward to playing with you all (some of you again, some of you for the first time)!

I'm more satisfied with this look, and since she is wearing an superior armoured clothing, I managed to get a bit of armour plating to her as well.
Apart from some minor tweaks and a little more shopping I think my cunning jedi is ready.

Hey gang, so after playing around with some options, I have an Intellectual Meaty Droid taking shape...

Looking at the Hired Gun Career, Maraurder Spec to do some heavy lifting on the Meaty side, and a high Intellect (plus out of Spec skill rank purchases) to do the heavy lifting on the Intellectual side.

And because we have a boat load of creds from a Knight Level start, I'm looking at getting a jetpack for the kind of Athletics/mobility/physical exploration angle, and just general awesomeness 😅

For Obligation I'm looking at Bounty, under the premise that (yea, I know, stereotype - thanks for ruining it for everyone K2SO) he's an "escaped" Republic (if they would care) or Hutt or Trade Federation droid chassis or something?

I would think they could fit in easily with the Bounty Hunter or Big Game Hunter or the Jedi as a droid they "purchased"/liberated or whatever at some point. After which we just became companions? (EDIT: and the only "living space" he would require would be something about the size of a broom closet on your ship 🤣)

Seuss does something like this seen like an alright fit?

All sounds good @emsquared

Though perhaps concentrate on the Hutts or Trade Federation. I feel like the High Republic era Republic wouldn't stress/care of an escaped droid even as it is the very very start of it devolving into the corruption of the prequal era.

I do like the idea of already being connected with one of the other PCs if they are onboard.

Stuff has been cray cray as the kids say on this end. I'll post my character tomorrow.
Jan 30, 2026 1:02 pm
Yeah, been a bit busy myself. I have most of the character on the sheet, so will fix after work today.
Jan 30, 2026 4:00 pm
@Seuss I purchased an Attachment for my primary weapon:

MMD-18 Molecular Dagger = primary weapon

Mono-molecular Edge = Attachment

And that attachment has 2 potential Modifications (both add a +1 Pierce Weapon Quality) that can be made to it. I would like to do both. The potential for those two mods is really the entire reason I purchased the Attachment.

The first mod costs 100 cred, and the second 200 cred. Just for the mods. (The attachment alone, without mods was also 1000.) I have the skills to attempt to install them myself.

But I would rather pay for a service to have them installed, if that means they both can automatically be successfully installed.

Is that an option?

I did some research, to try and take some of the load off of you to do so, and there isn't a ton out there for cost of "services"that I could find, but I did find from the Vehicle Ops book that a paid Mechanic (modding weapons is the Mechanics skill) NPC costs 2000 cred a month.

Bladed Weapons in the crafting table are listed with a 16 hr crafting time. This is actually to craft an entirely new blades weapon, but I couldn't find anything for modding times.

If I put my GM-hat on, I would say that if the installation is automatically successful than the Modder is probably taking a lot of extra time and has schematics and specialized tools, etc.

And so maybe we double the crafting time - 32 hrs which pro-rated to the month baseline is 400 cred.

Throw in something like +25% for the specialized tools and schematics, and it's 500? Or maybe it's even double that cost (800) cuz... they're not easy checks to make... 1st one would be Hard (PPP), 2nd would be Daunting (PPPP) if I were to roll them...

OR if you don't think paying for automatic success thru a service is appropriate, I will be happy to attempt the checks myself.

Thoughts?

EDIT: just learned that Vehicle Ops is a Community-made supplement, so... take that for what it's worth too.

@emsquared - The Edge of the Empire Special Modifications sourcebook Table 3-20 says modifications can be contracted at 500 credits x difficulty

So ... 1,500 credits for the first mod

2,000 for the second.

You of course can attempt to Negotiate with the weaponsmith against Difficulty (2) with 3 successes meaning the total would be 875 credits, 2 successes 1,750 credits, and 1 success 2,625 credits. Otherwise it is the full 3,500.

Or of course, attempt to install the mods yourself.

Seuss
Jan 31, 2026 12:48 am
Ah nice! I'll attempt to install the first one myself, and pay for the second one (no Negotiation).

Character submitted, tho I still have some creds to spend. (It's not clear to me that if this first Mod fails if the cost of the "2nd" install would then still be 2000, or if it would only them be 1500 as no first Mod was installed...).

Ok here goes the roll.

Intellect 4 + Mechanics 2 + Weapon Maintenance Kit for the MMD18 (2 Boosts) + I'd like to advocate for a 3rd Boost die under the premise that M8-T took extra time to install the mod when he did it.

Granted as the roll and narrative are occurring before play begins (and so there is no stakes or consequences for taking extra time), I would understand if that's not a valid ask. I'll roll it separate.

Also... this is a pretty important check to me (worth 1500 creds and a Pierce Quality), so if it was an option, I would flip a Destiny. But again, I understand if that's not an option because we're not even in play yet.

First Mod is a Hard check. PPP

Rolls

Mechanics v MMD-18 Mono-edge Mod install

3 Success, 5 Advantage, 3 Threat

Total: 3 Success, 2 Advantage

Mechanics, Mod check, extra time Boost?

1 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

Feb 2, 2026 4:02 pm
Cool. I've seen PPPs take down rolls of any size before, so glad that worked out.

Not sure if there's a whole lot that I could do with those (up to) 3 Advantage, but that would be a lot of advantage... Maybe a discount to the second Mod install price or something? Like, it still only counts as the First Mod for cost of install, or even just 10% off or something?

Again, check was made pre play so totally understand if I don't get to spend those.

I'll pay the full 2000 and if you decide any discount is appropriate, I 'll edit later.

I would like to call this character "How to spend $4000 a $100 dagger" probably should have just bought a vibro-sword in retrospect 😅

I think, as per one of the suggested outcomes for Advantage on a Mechanics check, with (3) Advantage we can say that the weapon has the Superior Quality for a Session. We'll define 'Session' as the first two Acts.

Seems like this group is ok with AI generated content, so I put my character description in and this is what came out:
https://i.imgur.com/0D9aAuP.jpeg
... which is WAY more aggressive and sinister than I want 😂, so...

Went with the one in my character avatar scavenged from the Internet.

M8-T ("Matey") is a IG-100 ("Magnaguard") model droid, popularized by the Trade Federation as personal security detail droids.

Maybe he first came in contact with our Skip Tracer (?), working a mutual bounty job (Skip, a free lance contractor, M8-T as a representative of the party issuing the bounty?). Directed to work together.

Maybe things went south for the job, M8-T was all but destroyed while protecting Skip from an attack?

The issuer of the bounty didn't even think to ask for what was left of the droid back. But since he helped protect Skip, Skip had him repaired. And they've worked together ever since.

Something like that sound workable to you, @Kier01 ?

Or if someone else likes that story thread, I feel like something similar could work for just about any or all of the party.

So ... It appears that we are in the final stretch of character creation. As such I would like to officially launch the adventure next week (I will probably post the opening sometime over the weekend and you will have until Tuesday morning reply). That should, hopefully, give everyone a less stressful week putting the final touches on your characters.

I will post a 'Prelude' thread, hopefully early tomorrow, that will be a sort of In Character thread to allow you to 'get in character' and flesh out our backstory or relationships to each other (there has been some ideas thrown around). This will be totally optional so don't feel like you have to post ... only for fun and getting an idea of your characters 'voice' if you so choose.

I went ahead and rolled for the Obligation Check and Obligation was not triggered.

@runekyndig - As you are the only Force User you can elect to trigger your Morality or not. The only benefit/penality it provides is you would double your increase/decrease to Morailty at the end of the adventure. As this is a one-shot not that big a deal. Even if you elect to continue it probably wouldn't be a big deal. As it would take a while to 'fall' to the Dark Side or become a Paragon of the Light.

Again the is a one-shot but if you are really liking your characters or the game I have material to contiue forward. But in the mean time ... no worries, have fun!!

I am having second thoughts about joining this game.
I'm currently in 9 games (including this one) and it used to be a comfortable level for me. But at the moment it seems that even that is to much for me.

I think I should dial my game engagement even further down, even if it pains me to do so. And I would rather do it before the game starts. I'm sorry to be a bother.

Could be a great great grandfather perhaps. Saves you from completely making a character from scratch. Perhaps Wals is a family name and Clone Wars Wals was a Junior or II (or maybe III)

Seuss
Feb 5, 2026 2:02 am
I think I'll save Wals for the inevitable future rebellion era game. :D

Practical question - we start with a bonus 150 XP, but given that this is a sort of one-shot situation, should we count on not getting much experience to round out or flesh out our character? Or can we count on a healthy amount of XP rewards to progress? For instance, is it worth it to invest in additional talent trees or force powers that are later bloomers? Should we be shooting right for the good stuff to make sure it comes into play?
Feb 5, 2026 2:29 am
Hmmm ... That's a hard one to answer. The short response is assume one-shot and not getting much more experience so plan progression carefully and thoughtfully. So if there is a power/talent you really want to use then head right to it.

That being said my thoughts were to distribute the XP award per month or maybe per act, and I wouldn't have a problem with that being spent mid-game (within reason). Of course there is the potential some or all of you really like your characters or the game or both and we continue on for another chapter or two.

Seuss
Feb 5, 2026 4:06 am
Ooftah, as I recalled, Jedi are absolute seives of XP.

My character is definitely still quite the padawan learner. Some pretty basic force abilities, and a smattering of low level skills, and a bit of investment in not dying in combat.

There are some knobs to potentially turn, so let me know if I should pivot to fill any kind of competency gap.

GreyGriffin, I personally went the "straight to the good stuff"-route, under the understanding that it was a one shot.

For whatever that is worth (which may be - 0!)

I will point out for a Force User, if Seuss allows it and if you want to go for the up-front power, there is the "Quick Path to Power" option that let's buy a Force Rating 2 for 30 XP. If you want to go for a more fun or flavorful Spec and Talents that would set the Force Rating Talent far away from you...

The math for that might work out for a more slanted build, which would be okay for a one-shot, I think. I'll need to do some numbers fiddling in the background.

The central core of it is there, though: Kitichik, the Gand Jedi adherent of the Cosmic Force
Feb 6, 2026 9:08 pm
Okay, I worked out another build taking the pressure off the talents to speedrun Force 2 definitely bought some room to maneuver and give this character some juice. Definitely poorly built for flailing around with the next 150 XP I'd get but more focused, and a bit deeper in the force trees to actually live up to some Jedi tropes. Also, reasonable social stats?

I haven't actually. At a quick glance, I hope it doesn't blow up, people will be on me for my reddit account. >.<

Really!? I thought for sure you must be a fan.

I mean it's a 20 year old book, so if it was gonna blow up, I think it would have by now :P

The Great Account Explosion on Rondaks Portal happened in I believe 2002, which is the earliest record I could think to pull up of this username, but I think I actually started using it there in 1997.

So, no, I did not know an author nine years in the future.

Maybe I should sue for royalties.

My compliments on the incredible writing from everyone. I know I said I would launch the game today (Friday) but wanted to leave the weekend for anyone wanting to add anything else to the prequel. I'll plan to launch my opening post on Sunday night and y'all will then have through Monday to respond.

Again ... good stuff!

Heh, wasn't trying to impeach your username cred. Was just trying to share a human-moment, and see if you could give any input as to the quality of the series.

I did buy it and we started reading it, still early but I'm finding it's kind of meh so far...

That's ok, I was just reminiscing about how old the name was.

I may not be For Real old, but I'm certainly Internet Old.

Sorry for the slowdown, I just got invited to a funeral and it's been messing with my sense of time.

Since the dialogue between characters is ongoing I will delay my post until the discussion has concluded or there is need for a roll. As it seems there is an open question to Kitichik AND Matey has been afforded the opportunity to join the room (should he want to accept).

Hello friends, I will be on spring break all next week and won't be able to post.
Apr 3, 2026 1:37 am
So sorry guys! Didn't mean to ghost you. Long story short between people being off work for vacation, kids make up games being scheduled during their spring break, and now volunteering at church the week got away from me.

Enjoy the mini break and hopefully we can hit the ground running hard on Monday.

One very minor item of note. I like the content and prose of everyone's posts. It has been a very enjoyable read. Keep in mind if you want to interact with any of the NPCs or attempts something send a roll with the post. If I don't think one is warranted I'll ignore but we've kind of stalled a bit with us trying to do / manipulate things and I'm waiting on a roll or post to prompt for one which has been delaying I think at times everyone else's follow up posts. All in all though, good and I love the enthusiasm.

@GreyGriffin / Kier01 / Furmyr - Are y'all still with us?

Yeah, sorry. Character is just walking and waiting to eventually reach the town, probably after the most pressing action.
May 22, 2026 3:07 am
Yeah, still here.

Sorry, I've been sick, in and out of bed for the past couple weeks.

Hopefully everyone is still with us. Wanted to let y'all know that I will be out of touch for the next 10 days on vacation with limited internet access. In the mean time I am hoping that over those 10 days we will get Kitichik and Reynar's plan of action in motion for me to reply upon my return.

Moving forward I also remain hopeful that we can get on a more consistent posting schedule. Ideally I would like 4-5 posts per week but for starters I would like the goal to be 3 times a week. AND if you pose a question or action to one of the other PCs that you would highlight OOC that you are anticipating a response or have proposed an action that requires another PC interaction as well as DM them directly to let them know.

I like the group of players we have and hope to see the current adventure through to the end.

Thank you again for playing in my SW game,

Have a good trip, I'm still here when you're back :)

I am also still here.

Just don't know what else to do until the stampede does what it's gonna do.

Hello all, wanted to give you all a heads up: I am traveling this weekend for the American holiday, then I will be back for, like, a day, and then will be traveling again for vacation basically until July 17th.

So in short I'm going to have low-to-no activity after today for about 2 weeks.
Jul 2, 2026 6:09 pm
Thanks for the heads up em

And everyone have a happy and safe July 4th holiday!

I would like to say thank you for the invite. :)

https://i.imgur.com/J8DpLOh.pngI think I have Thalen's sheet almost complete, just need to gear him up.

Oh, and I think this is a good representation of him, but may still tweak the look at bit...

hehe you know, I do see both myself lol

And reminded of Sir Connery and that long range rifle shot he made in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as something Thalen might have had to do at some point. :)
