I finally got Starforged, so it's time to swear some iron vows...in space!

System: Ironsworn: Starforged.

Using vanilla rules and assets, with one exception: no session moves. Anything related to those moves can be discussed normally.

Character Creation: Standard, as summarized on page 102.

Your character will be human.

Universe Creation: We'll work together to create everything. Or we can just roll randomly and see what the Dice Gods hand us.

Party Size: This will be a one-on-one co-op game. So two, just to be clear. 😎

Vibe/Aesthetic/Lore: Default vibe as explained in the books.

Duration: I plan to play Ironsworn long-term, but you aren't obligated to stick around forever. If you want to play one mission and then leave, cool. If you want to play for months and try to fulfill your background vow, also cool.

Activity Requirement: I'm looking for roughly 5 posts a week. If real-life (ugh) comes up, lemme know and we'll work something out. But if your posting rate dwindles long-term, or if you're generally uncommunicative, I'll find a replacement.

Specialized Software and Resources: Game itself is played on Gamersplane. I'll be using Crew Link for my character sheet. You're welcome to do the same. Or you can use custom Starforged sheets developed for use here, or anything you've found elsewhere. As long as the sheet is cleanly formatted and easy for me to access.

We may use something like Stargazer for sector maps.

Player Experience Requirements: Some experience in PbP preferred.

Content Warning: For my part, stuff like torture, rape, slavery, and infanticide may be mentioned. No graphic descriptions of these, however.

Foul language may be used.

No erotic roleplay. Fade to black for any sexy stuff.

AI: AI use is welcome.

Additional Notes & Expectations:

I'm a grizzled Ironsworn veteran, but this is my first time playing Starforged. Expect some bumps in the road.

Update: I do have two Starforged games going now (one solo, one co-op), but they're both still in their infancy.

A bit about my RP style: I tend to write meatier posts, and get into the character growth/psychological aspect of things just as much as the "whack foe with weapon" parts.

If it's my "turn" to advance the story, I'm probably going to cook up something dangerous and cool that demands a response. PbP being what it is, I find this necessary to keep the story from dragging.

If you prefer a "slow burn" style where we discuss every single move, this probably isn't the game for you. I'm looking for someone who's gung-ho, has tons of RP ideas, and is unaffected by decision paralysis.

My profile has numerous Ironsworn/Starforged games if you want to see me in action.

And now some "no's": No power-gamers, murderhobos, memesters, or contrarians.

Selection Process: Not first come, first serve. I'll be looking for the best vibes.

If interested, reply here with the below:

1.) Briefly discuss your Starforged and PbP experience, if any.

2.) Provide a brief character concept. Since the universe isn't created yet, don't write a novella in case you need to change something. This will give me insight into your RP style, and ensure you get the gist of the game system.

Should I post my interest here?

1. I am new to playing Starforged. I am currently working on playing my first solo campaign. Pretty exciting stuff! (I've also played a little Iron Valley which is kind of based off the Ironsworn/Starforged system). I have A LOT of play by post RP experience, however. I have been forum RPing since I was 12 years old, and I am now in my thirties. So. Yeah. Lot of experience there.

2. Hmmm... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell... I kind of like to build characters around the universe that they're going to be in. But since you want a character concept right now, I'll present a few. Subject to change if I stumble on an idea that would be more interesting after the universe is built, though.

1st: I might bring over my character from my solo campaign. Her name is Everona Stallade - and she has the Healer and Haunted assets. Backstory-wise, she was pretty much forced into conducting unethical medical experiments (and this is a large part of the reason that she's haunted). Her background vow would involve basically trying to atone for what she did (this will vary based on what's going on in the universe, I think)

2nd: Trader + Empath -> Greed but for a good cause. Don't have a lot of details worked out. Just think it would be a fun combination.

3rd: Exobiologist - Lore Hunter + Naturalist. A scientist in way over her head. Can't go wrong with that.

4th: Private Investigator - Sleuth + Brawler - Kind of a big fan of detective stories. Though, I'm a little unsure about my ability to write a good detective. I'm also thinking this detective may be deep undercover for reasons.

A-ha! A new test subject Gamers Plane member! Welcome!

I feel like I've seen your username before. Maybe you participate in the Ironsworn Discord server?

1.) I'm also playing through my first solo Starforged campaign, though I don't really like playing solo, and usually only post for that when my co-op games stall. I've skimmed Iron Valley, but never played it. RPing since age 12? Nice. 💪

2.) All your character concepts are fine. Trader + Empath is especially intriguing.

No other interest in this game, so let's get rolling! I'll set up the game forum and send you an invite. You should see the invite on Gamers Plane's homepage.

Once you're in, we'll start creating everything.

I do! But I go by a slightly different username. I like playing solo but playing with others is a lot of fun, too! Looking forward to the game!

With some of my games either paused or ending, I have more RP capacity, so I'm looking to start another new Starforged co-op game.

If interested, read through the recruitment post for game details and how to apply.

I have seen a few YouTube videos about Starforged, enough to be genuinely curious. Did you have anything in mind?

What I have seen so far, my thoughts have gone in a gritty Mass Effect vibe

What do you mean by co-op?

This is also my preferred pace.

I have been playing PBP here on this site for 7-8 years now

Sounds good. Direct harm to children is off the table.

This is good to know.
I am looking for some character growth kind of game, so this could very well be the game for me.

1.) I covered that above. But most importantly, as of this moment, I do not have access to the book, but I am looking

2.) My character should be working on internal and external issues. If I'm sticking the a gritty version of Mass Effect, then my character could have been in a Biotics/psysics program, but nothing developed.
Washed out of the program and only later discovered new strange abilities.
There is an internal issue with these powers, the the loved ones that was hurt and an external from the military/corp that wants to capitalise on their, believed failed, investment.

The book will explain the vibe better. There are default assumptions, and then we select Truths to flesh out the world. There are 14 in total, so a 7/7 split between us would work, or we can roll randomly.

Checking out Iron and Infinity, specifically the Galactic Truths and Outlands Info threads, will give you an idea of what finalized game creation looks like.

Co-op means cooperative.

"Direct harm to children is off the table." So if there's a battle between warring factions, we can't mention that children were casualties? As stated in the recruitment post, there won't be graphic descriptions of anything listed, but innocents of all ages may get caught in the crossfire during our adventure.

Give me some more details about your concern, though, and maybe we can reach an accord.

Your character concept fits Starforged's vibe.

Hi, still open? I play mainly pathfinder pbp, also a little osr (d&d basic) but played nerrative games before and think that my roleplay is ok. I have a hard time to come with character concept when the truths are not defined yet but not star wars vibe. I drew assets at random and got Loyalist, Naturalist and Veteran.

I’m definitely interested!

I played Starforged solo once for a bit, but solo play never fully clicked for me. It always felt like I was steering too much of the action, even when using the oracles. I would really love to bounce off another player and improvise together instead. I’ve been playing PbP for several years now, and can easily keep up with a post per day pace.

As for my character, I would really prefer building the setting together first, so my character would fit into whatever tone/themes we establish, and also vibes with whatever you want to play. That said, one idea I'm considering is a genetically-engineered human prototype who managed to escape (or maybe she was allowed to escape for reasons she doesn’t fully understand?) and is now on the run. Mechanically, I’d be looking at the Augmented path, and possibly Fugitive, but I’m fully flexible and can come up with something more fitting to the setting we will create.

Hmm, if I need a starting pitch or setting, then a bodyguard of a noble, let's say dune style. Killed his noble, now needs to take revenge. Let's call the villain Mr. Z.

@Delirium: You're the lucky (?) winner!

I also can't keep my solo adventures moving, for the same reason you mentioned. Logging into Gamers Plane and seeing what curveballs my RP partners have thrown me is far more rewarding.

Your character concept is fine, and I'll keep that in mind when creating my own character. Contrasting characters = good RP.

I'm setting up the game now, and will send you an invite when done.

Everyone else: thanks for your interest. PbP being what it is, I'm certain I'll have spots open in the future.
