"We steal all." Borz was grinning like a wolf. "All sleep, no fight."

Scratching his chin, Eloras ponders, looks around the others.

"If they not wake, this place will be a desert soon. So, if we take all the silver and ignore the spider, we'll have to leave this place. But - if we take only some silver and get the spider away, we are rich men in a thriving city and the people would be thankful, wouldn't they?"

"So, we take silver, then be heroes?"

"That sounds like a very good plan Eloras." Hanford will smile and nod.

Aktar Besh scoffs. "Big talk," he says. "I think it's wiser to get out of this city, before sleep takes us as well."

Borz exited the tavern and set his sights for a palace, or temple, or the largest and most well appointed building he could see. Knowing therein would be the silver they had discussed pilfuring.

Noxmorte will follow Borz into the street, it's interesting to watch the big man try and think.

OOC:
I'm starting a clock, seven hours until nightfall. After nightfall you'll each need to roll Mind v a gradually increasing DS, in order to evade sleep.

Eloras looks to Hanford.

"So, where is this 'Tower of Spiders'? It could be any tower in the City, couldn't it?"

OOC:
this is roughly anachronistic to the late bronze age.

Are khat/coffee/ashwaganda/betel available?

One can fight sleep for days with khat

OOC:
Surely you can find some of that in a city the size of Azjan, the capital of spices. I don't think you even need to make a roll for that. Please just describe where you look.

"Basarra." Borz attempts to say pointing to the spice markets. He already had in mind a few common herbs to fight off sleep. And some rare ones worth a fortune. Following his nose he shouldered the executioner's sword and forged ahead.
OOC:
Bazzar* but there is no way someone speaking Finno-Urgic could say that without lots of practice.

Hanford will follow along with Borz shout bow in hand"Whatever we do it seems like we should do it pretty quick. I don't think we should linger in town too long."

The streets remain eerily quiet as you move from the tavern to the spice market. Aktar Besh frets at you, then chooses to stay with the donkeys. You are free of supervision as you seek to ransack the spice market for stimulants.

It is not very hard to find the spice market; its odors waft through the humid air, intensifying as you approach. The stalls are deserted by people. They also are replete with containers of spices, all closed up as if waiting for the next day's market. It takes only about an hour to rummage for khat and betel, enough to keep you awake for days.

That problem is solved.

Looking around, you see that the city has in addition to its three and five story buildings of white stucco, several taller structures. One in particular stands out for its alien appearance: a tower that looms tall, thin, dark and somehow menacing. It looks not far from the spice market.

Noxmorte takes a sniff of the spices, his eyes widening at their effect. Looking around at the skyline, he spots the tower. "Well, fellows, that thin tower there seems to be yelling 'run away'. I'm guessing that's our destination."

"First, tea. Then sleep spider... tower." Borz was struggling with the more complex allusions in this new language.

"Inspid gutter speech. This is the cradle of civilization? Preposterous."

Squinting, Eloras eyes the tower, nods once.

"Sounds like we have a target and not overly much time.", he murmurs.
Nov 3, 2025 9:17 pm
"Yes, to the tower." With bow in hand and arrow nocked.

Traversing the silent streets, noting only stray cats and a couple of other dogs, you reach the courtyard before the menacing tower. It has an almost glassy appearance to its stones, perhaps obsidian? There is a shadowed doorway in the foot of the tower. There is no door to close it. Borz senses a presence in the doorway, but sees no-one there.
