Who let the frogs out? (RP)

Emma took a few steps forward, just close enough to hear the conversation, but still kept some distance. She didn't know what to expect, but experience taught her to be wary of demons.

Despite the lack of speech, Max's challenge is clearly conveyed, but the figure bravely does not back down. At Benji's incongruously friendly words it pauses, as though confused, then hisses and holds up its hands in a 'ready to fight' posture. All sorts of clear nonverbal communication going on today.

Under the supposed distraction of the demon as cover, the summoner —Persephone recognises them as such— is trying to sneak away, they probably did not bargain on facing such fierce opposition on this job.

Persephone tilts her head sideways, and says, "Where do you think you’re going?"

She breaks into a sprint, leaping obstacles, and attempts to knockdown the fleeing summoner, using some of the martial arts training she took growing up and through college.

Perhaps I could roll Let It Out and do some non-demonic, human-possible damage etc?

"Oh, fuck! Don't hurt me." They cry out from the ground, having tripped over their own feet in fright as you charged them down, they don't look very formidable —but then, neither did Chaudry— and are just a kid, barely Circe's age.

Does this deter you?

Persephone snarls at the kid, saying, "I’m gonna do more than hurt you if you don’t talk, demon summoning scum! Now, who are you, who taught you that, why are you summoning a demon, and do you work for Chaudry?!"
OOC:
Persuade an NPC? Or is he already scared enough to talk?
Oct 24, 2025 7:21 pm
The promise of a threat is enough for Max. She's pissed, riled, and looking for something to vent her frustration on. How dare this hell-scented fiend raise its hands and hiss at her in her own territory? How dare it do anything but bow before the mighty she-wolf before it and blubber its mewling explanation for this intrusion?

Her growling stops. Her lips curl back into a terrifying grin, and her eyes widen as she stares directly at the demonic entity. And in another second, she's flying through the air at it.

The summoner looks properly scared of you and your group, and this possibly goes deeper than just your actions here, today. But they also look hurt at your calling them 'scum'.

"Nefydd. I'm Nefydd." They stammer, their accent it strongly welsh (if your American ear can pick up on that). "I didn't mean no harm. Its harmless." They say, not sounding too worried about saving their demon. "It was just going to look.

"I was just told to watch the place..." They realise they are probably saying too much, and try to change the subject away from who exactly 'told' them. "I taught myself!" They say defiantly, proud of their independence (but with a definite undertone hinting that probably they would have taken tutelage if they had been able to find it).

Your use of the name Chaudry definitely got a reaction, but it may take more work to get them to admit it.

Fur flies and tainted blood spills as Max lunges and bears the intruder to the ground. Her first vicious nip misses its flesh and instead tugs off its trenchcoat, sending it flying away and revealing its true form, an insect-like brute with far too many mouths and eyes in places they don't belong. Its sickly yellow skin and unnatural limbs reveal why it had such a struggle moving: This creature would obviously be more comfortable in a quadrupedal position. The creature's lobster-like claws pinch at the she-wolf in desperation but seem to do little harm. Max's furry hide is clearly very thick.

Her next bite sinks deep into its stomach, causing black blood to burst forth. Max pauses after this, her lips still peeled in a terrifying grin that now drips with dark ichor. She stares into the creature's orange eyes, or at least the ones on its head, as if daring it to incite her to further carnage.

"Goodness!" Benji exclaims, leaping back in surprise and fright, both at the sight of the creature and at Max’s ferocious attack.

Persephone eases up and says, "Hon, you and I both know you’re not a good liar, so just stop. Listen, Choudry tried to murder me, sacrificing me to feed to his hell hound. Whatever he promised is a lie; you’re on the wrong side of this, Nefydd. Now, I’ll make you a deal—I won’t hurt you, and I’ll make sure the werewolf over there doesn’t either, even though you dared to summon a demon on her turf. Normally she’d kill you for that. So, I protect you, you spill. Deal?"
Oct 25, 2025 5:36 am
Emma hated demons, and couldn't care less what happened to that ugly little monster. But the sudden savage violence still made her uneasy. All that black blood spraying everywhere. Torn flesh. It was too visceral, and too close to her liking. She pressed her hand to her mouth as she tried to keep herself from gagging, unable to look away
Oct 25, 2025 8:13 pm
The insect-demon looks plaintively towards its master for instruction, but Nefydd can not see it from where they are on the ground.

"I'm not lying!" They say indignantly, but then the full intent of Persephone's words hit home.

"Wait! What do you meant 'tried to sacrifice you'?" They ask, accidentally confirming that they know Chaudry.

They are clearly scared of you, but nothing you have said exactly shakes their confidence in- nor their faithfulness to whomever they serve.

Persephone scowls in fury and says, "He DID sacrifice me. Last Saturday, near here. He stabbed me in the chest and fed me to his Hell hound, in his underground little hideout. He had a demonic guard serving him, too. I died. But you see, I also serve a demon, and my patron put my shredded body back together and brought me back. Look carefully…"

She pulls open her shirt, showing her chest and bra, where fine white scar lines can be seen, spreading over her tan skin like a web.

"Now, I have said I won’t hurt you if you cooperate. But as far as I can see, you ain’t. So what’s it gonna be, Nefydd? Will you cooperate, or must I involve my Patron? I imagined they’d be very cross if I were to alert them to your existence…"
OOC:
So I got a hit to persuade an NPC and offered him a deal (protection). But it feels like I didn’t get a hit here? This isn’t cooperation so far. So I’m now offering some further proof, with an additional threat. What, should O roll Persuade an NPC again? That feels redundant…
Oct 25, 2025 10:33 pm
Max begins to growl again. She jerks her head in the direction of the quickest way out of her territory and then locks eyes with the demon again. She snaps her teeth viciously and begins nosing her muzzle aggressively towards its throat. She tries to make her warning as clear as possible while there are no words at her disposal: Leave or die.

OOC: I don't know if a persuade with threat is appropriate here, so feel free to disregard this roll if you feel it isn't.

"Really? You're the one?" Nefydd asks, surprised and fascinated by this string of revelations. "You died? And came back? What was that... never mind." A slight look of pity crosses their face when Persephone talks of 'serving a demon', but it is quickly hidden.

When Max threatens the disemboweled, demon it looks from her to its master, unable to act against its orders. By this time Nefydd has sat up —on the wet ground— and can see this scene. "Um... can I get rid of that?" They ask, indicating the demon but scared to overstep. "Only it is ... you know..." They tap their head, indicating some psychic connection that seems to be causing them pain, not that any of you do actually 'know' this.

(If they are given permission, they mutter a phrase and the insect demon vanished with a squeak and pop, leaving icky leakings all over the grass.)

"'Cooperate'?" Nefydd demands. "What do you want from me?" You have cornered them and demanded they 'talk' which they have been doing. Nothing you have said or done shakes their loyalty to Chaudry, their friend and mentor, but they are not going to say that to your face for fear of retribution.

Persephone yells in exasperation. "Dammit!
Choudry stabbed me with a large knife! Dozens of times! And fed me to a fucking dog!"
As she yells, tears begin to flow down her face. She grabs her clothes and shakes them but she begins to lose herself to the trauma.

Resisting the urge to curl up and die, she shakes her head and growls in anger. She looks back to Nefydd and grips their collar and pulls them closer to her. She asks, "Please. I have to find him. I have to make him reckon for what he did to me. He’s a murderer, Nefydd. You really wanna defend him? Please. Please! Goddam it…"

She begins to cry again, the sobs and cries coming over her violently, like a fit. Her body heaves and shakes as she is wracked with muscle spasms and violent sobbing, pressing her snotty tearful face into Nefydd’s chest, as she continues to grip their clothing tightly.

Benji had been focused on the demon and hadn't noticed Nefydd, but he turns at the sound of Persephone's raised voice...

'Nefydd'.

Emma reached into her coat pocket and pulled out her phone. Maybe there was something in the administrator's notes that could tell her who that person was, or anything they could use for leverage, though at this point she was doing it more for his benefit; if he didn't talk, and fast, she didn't know in what shape he would be once Max was done with him.

Nefydd looks more uneasy about the snot on his shirt than the talk of 'murder'. From his perspective and what he has, maybe, heard, you attack Chaudry [ref] he was trying to do his job and be professional... and you were not supposed to even be there.

He is thinking about saying 'can you really call it murder if you are still alive?', but dealing with hysterical women was not part of his job description. He is thinking about the fascinating news —which he is dying to tell Chaudry— that such sacrifices have such loopholes, and what this might mean if they can be brought back afterwards.

"Look." Nefydd says 'reasonably'. "I'm sorry about this 'Cowdry' fella may or may not have done. But I can't help you." His lie is not convincing but you are talking about revenge against his friend, and he has not reason to help you... (long-term).
