Who let the frogs out? (RP)

Max looks at each of her associates in turn. She lets out a warbling, very annoyed-sounding whine.

Emma was using Benji as a human shield, and nearly lost her footing when he stepped back "I told you! I told you she was...something" her voice trembled as she clutched his arm, so tightly her knuckles nearly turned white.

She wanted to run, but had to force herself to stay put. She was worried the Max-Wolf might see her as prey if bolted, so she just stood there behind Pers and Benji, heart pounding hard as her breathing turned quick and heavy.

Persephone initially took a defensive position and was about to try to call on her inner demon, when the Max-wolf before them whines in frustration. Persephone furrows her brows, begins to smirk. Somehow, impossibly, a freaking werewolf was about the fifth most shocking thing she'd seen this week.

She takes a tentative step forward and squats, so she is at eye level and tilts her head, curiously. She laughs and says, "Did... did you just turn into a wolf on accident and now you're annoyed?"

Benji, too, relaxes a little when the wolf—Max—makes no move to attack, although he does not venture any closer. Max is a werewolf! How long has she been a werewolf? As long as he’s known her? "I don’t think she’ll hurt us," he tries to reassure Emma, who is cowering behind him. "…Right, Max?"
Oct 20, 2025 5:29 am
Max nods solemnly at Persephone. Then she steps past her and stoops her head down, picking up Emma's dropped umbrella in her mouth. She steps up to Benji and Emma and offers the dropped implement silently to her favorite author.

Inwardly she's a roil of emotion. Is there really no good way to the hellhound? She considers the idea of staking out the entrance to the lair and waiting for the beast to come out, but that presents its own set of problems namely that, unlike vampires, she does have to sleep at night. Maybe convince Benji and Alara to help? Catch a few winks nearby while they watched the tunnels? She wasn't sure she could, given how leery they both were around her, they would surely be reluctant to expose themselves to an even larger and more violent beast.

Maybe Benji was wrong and she could find a shortcut to the hellhound and deal with it much quicker than he was suggesting. With its hair in her duffel bag, she at least had its scent...

Speaking of 'watching the entrance' and 'demon (dog) scent': You smell something right now, it is not the hellhound —you don't think— but it sure smells hellish... or, at least, not right. Something ... something that was not there before... is approaching from the west —over where you found the hair and print. You can feel its eyes on you, curious about what you are and what you are doing here.

What do you do?

You have, indeed, had a strange week, and, as Max does her 'good doggy' impression to pacify Emma, you feel a little light-headed —squatting down as you are. For a moment you think you might be about to be teleported again... but nothing happens... to you. It may just be that you were thinking about 'demon form', but you get the impression of 'demon', over that way, towards the west, further into the park.

If it is a demon, you 'know' (suspect?) they can not just show up uninvited, someone needs to summon them... right?

What do you do?

Emma flinched when the she-wolf moved closer. But when she picked up her umbrella and approached her, she slowly let go of Benji’s arm and hesitantly reached out to take it

"..Th-thank you?" she looked between Benji, and Persephone, before turning her eyes back to Max "Are you stuck like this? Or…do you want my raincoat?" she looked around for Max’s clothes, wondering at what condition they were in after her transformation.
Oct 20, 2025 1:28 pm
Max doesn't respond to Emma, she simply perks her ears up and looks off. When the umbrella is taken from her, she paces away and stares to the west, ears twitching, growling. She hunches a bit as though ready to pounce at something not yet present, her hackles standing up.

Frankly, Persephone in her territory was quite enough demonic presence as far as she was concerned. Something else, uninvited and curious, was not welcome, and she would know why it had dared to reveal its presence, and whether or not it was connected to the hellhound.
Oct 21, 2025 12:16 am
Persephone smiles at Max-wolf delivering the umbrella, but then suddenly grimaces and looks off to the West. When Max-wolf also looks in that direction and growls, Persephone looks down and says, "Oh, you sense it too? Let’s go look, yeah?"

She turns to Benji and Emma and says, "A demonic presence just appeared over there. Like… was summoned. Just now! We gotta check it out!"

She begins to run in that direction!
Oct 21, 2025 12:48 am
Max immediately sprints after Persephone at full speed, quickly overtaking her as she speeds towards the demon scent.
Oct 21, 2025 6:28 am
Benji hesitates for a moment, before picking up his own umbrella and chasing after them, albeit at a much slower, more cautious pace. The last time they got into a fight with some demons, he got badly hurt and Persephone ended up dead, after all...

"Oy! Dogs in leads!" One busybody calls as Max streaks off. The park is not crowded in this weather, but what people there are, scatter. Someone puts a phone to their ear, possibly calling the cops —there was a lethal animal attack just over a day ago, after all, though only one of your party knows this— so you may have limited time to investigate.

The primary suspicious figure is wearing a trench-coat and hat —but that is a popular dress-style these days— so you can't get a good look at them, but, as Max approaches, followed by those of you who are following, they turn and try to get away while not drawing too much attention. The uproar of a large charging dog —people are trying to convince themselves 'must be a dog, it can't be a wolf'— should help, but the trench-coated figure is moving strangely, as though not fully in control of their limbs.

What do you all do?

We've established that I don't have access to The Devil Inside move. What about "Let it Out"?

Emma muttered something about 'madness' when both Pers and Max bolted toward the 'demonic presence'. She stopped to consider for a moment; she really shouldn't follow them, but she just couldn't help herself.

She followed, but kept some distance behind the others (not that she had any hope of catching up to a sprinting wolf, but just the same), coming to a complete stop once she spotted the strangely moving figure.
Oct 22, 2025 11:04 pm
Max charges past anyone standing in her way and bounds around the strange trenchcoat-clad thing, hunching as if preparing to pounce, standing in its way in a clear gesture of challenge.

- Max, Benji, and Persephone -

The figure (now that you get a closer look the term 'person' hardly applies) makes a worried 'peep' noise... then another, raising its 'hands' defensively. The arms are too short for the coat sleeves, which dangle down at the end. The hat covers its face, and all any of you can see are large orange eyes.

What do you all do?

From your distant vantage point you can't really see much of the strange figure, but it does seem to glance over to the side, as if for support, and you see another trench-coated figure. This one looks human, they are muttering under their breath, their attention on the strange figure and your approaching group, other than this muttering they are trying to avoid notice.

Persephone used the term 'summoned', maybe just like the other night, down below. But the supposed-summoner is not Chaudry, you don't recognise them.

What do you do?

Max remains in her aggressive posture. She wants to demand an explanation for this creature's presence in her territory, but she of course cannot speak right now. So she waits for Benji and Persephone to do it for her. If she could, she would transform back to human on the spot and demand her answers, but she's still too riled about the hellhound situation. And not being able to utter a challenge isn't helping her frustration one bit...
Oct 23, 2025 9:20 pm
Seeing that Max has cornered the strange, trench-coated figure, Benji slowly approaches, hands raised in an ‘I mean no harm’ sort of way. "Hello there, friend! We just want to talk. Is that… something you can do?"
