Thanks, it seemed there was some confusion between patron and familiar. Not easy to be GM and have to keep all of us and our associated figures straight even without keeping track of all the house politics and the like!Oct 10, 2025 9:48 pm
Leaving one meeting with a powerful entity just to almost literally bump into another - though more terrifying - has Kalafein nearly starstruck. "We truly are blessed." He breathes as they regroup with the others.
Once upon the road, Kal keeps his eyes peeled, hoping to point something out to those not as observant as he.
Thankful for such a resourceful guide in Ryo, Kal handily traverses the Underdark passages and almost continuously makes a running commentary, pointing out interesting rock formations and speculating on the presence of cloakers.

Returning to House Platin and finding the rest of their party assembled, she bid them wait while she went to speak with the leadership of the house as she had promised. Finding both her mother, the High Priestess Silveria, and Lady Emerald, she told them of what had occurred at House Melarn. Both what the new Matron Mother had asked of them, and of what she had long kept to herself concerning her friend, the new High Priestess Arduva.
It was a long conversation.
Returning with the others and speaking what she could about what occurred at House Melarn, T'rissae steeled herself for the journey ahead.

Finally starting out, still bemused by the majesty and power of the House dragon, Burny settles quickly and easily into the rhythm of the journey.
Yao Pu wings in his invisible raven form high and ahead. Others are scouting for the group and he's been in a bit of a snit since the dragon saw through his invisibility and petted him like a simple familiar so he's not really communicative at the moment.

Yrthak Cavern
Kalafein and Bor scout ahead of the group and while Kalafein is able to avoid a group of kobolds Bor is a bit less lucky on his outing and accidentally steps into a black slime but, at least he can tell everyone not to go that way.
The group makes it to the immense Yrthak cavern and sees the trail that others have taken. Pieces of wagons and other groups who have travelled through the cave and not made it all the way through are strewn here and there. Some of the worst carnage is up a carved switchback that leads from the lower cavern to the upper and some of you see goblins hiding in that area. A carved ladder up the wall would be easier for your group though you can't be entirely sure that those goblins won't decide to get to the top and throw things down.
In addition to all of that you count four large rock formations around the cave with various bones strewn about them. You're pretty sure that is where the Yrthak perch.
Beyond that just let me know how you're going through the cavern.

Ryo'fein was in his element. Exploration, danger around every corner, and the general unknown. To be doing this with some of the House's deadliest residents was exciting. Adventurous.
Now came a first of their crossroads. "This is the place the Magister warned us of. Time to use the scroll?" He asked Kalafein in drow sign.
Edit: Oh yeah, silly me. Drow sign language should definitely be used.

OOC:
Ryo can take point, or anywhere near the front is fine. The important bit about this place is to follow the Magister's advice and use Silence, and hopefully we make it through without encounter.Edit: Oh yeah, silly me. Drow sign language should definitely be used.

Kalafein nods in agreement with Ryo'fein. Already wary of sound, he flashes in the drow sign language, I am concerned that an encounter with the goblins ahead will attract the Yrthak. We must avoid them or otherwise ensure they do not attract the Yrthak to us. We will have 10 minutes to cross this span in the magical silence. After that, we risk attracting the Yrthak.
OOC:
I'm assuming I understand the goblins and Yrthak perches to be relatively close to each other for some reason? Otherwise, Kal wouldn't say all that.OOC:
Yes, if you get involved in combat with goblins that could alert on of the Yrthak.Oct 16, 2025 11:34 pm
Huddled with the others as Ryo'fein detailed the layout and the (likely) presence of the Yrthak, T'rissae hazards a glance at the desolation that marked the cavern as a place of danger. "Not for the light of heart," she whispered, words that could apply to the entirety of the Underdark.
"We weren't counting on the goblins being here though," she cautioned. "If we use it now, then they'll still be able to see us. And a wandering orb of pure black darkness might as well be a light for all the attention it will pull."
Considering the situation, an idea came to her. One she felt just a little bad about having. "...we could...try to use the goblins as a distraction. Lure them into making a racket, draw the Yrthak's attention."

Bor thinks for a moment. He curls his lips under dark blackened beard, nods to T'rissae, looks at his other friends and with stubby dwarven fingers, he signs, I like that plan.

Illusion I assume, Burny signs. Not one of my strengths though I could add a cantrip or try to lead the creature to the goblins with a summoning if we have no better options.

"Would goblins truly dare attack a House with our numbers? I’m surprised they Haven’t scurried away." Ryo’fein signed. "Surely we can simply kill them in silence? I fear they may drag the creature to us unknowingly. But… it makes little difference to me."
Oct 19, 2025 11:57 am
"Likely the wretches are too cowardly to engage us in direct combat", Narcaere muses. But they are clever. Using the Yrthak as attack dogs, then pick the corpses clean afterwards, perhaps?"
"Either way, I have little skill in illusionism as well. I could compel one of them to draw attention, but in this place that is so suicidal an act that they might resist."

Sorry, but going to need some numbers for distances. How far from us to the goblins, to the Yrthak, from the goblins to the Yrthak, what kind of cover is available as we move, something to help us with our planning a bit.Oct 20, 2025 12:01 am
Silver says" I could make it sound like rocks are tumbling towards them in the distance if we get closer. "

"How smart are the Yrthak?
Again, I can summon an aberration or a Celestial, attack the Yrthak lair, then retreat it toward the goblin lair. Better to draw the less intelligent toward the more intelligent. Goblins aren't super intelligent but they have a lot of cunning and paranoia. And, they already know about the Yrthak. I'm assuming the Yrthak aren't using the goblins as servants and would attack them if the goblins are exposed."

You are the red, the goblins are the green.
You have enough stealth between you to get close enough to the goblins for an illusion to work.
The Yrthak are more intelligent than the goblins but not in the same class as "true" dragons. They would likely attack something that was a celestial or other interloper without thinking of the area they can't "see".
