Storm on the Horizon

Lord Bowell violently jerks upwards as the potion burns its way down his throat. He mumbles something as his face turns a deep, unnatural purple. The veins along his neck bulge, and blacken, beneath his skin. He gasps for air, trying to fight off the effects, but then his body betrays him and he collapses once more into the mud, body trembling and hands clawing at the muddy ground.

Soon, spit and blood bubbles form his mouth. His muscles tighten, and then he lies still in the mud, his chest barely rising as he struggles to breathe.
OOC:
Wolfsbane is a potent poison, and this is the way it is 'supposed' to work; bringing the body to the cusp of death to cure the lycanthropy. It would take a day or two for him to recover. IF he recovers - not everyone survives the ordeal.
What do you do?

Halav walks around the castle grounds. Seeing if anyone else is still around, and surveying the general shape and potential reparability of things.

Now that he settled, "Let's take him and find a place to rest and by looks guard." Barns picks up Bowell and heads the nearest large structure looking for a spot inside to settle down at. He has a feeling there isn't anybody left around. The thinks they all abandoned this place.

You drag Hans' limp body through the rain and into the entrance hall, and lay him down across the stone floor.

The halls of the castle are eerily quiet. You find the remains of half-eaten meals, overturned chairs, and abandoned cloaks. The guards, and the servants, must have left in a hurry once Lord Bowell became more and more erratic. When you reach the lord's chamber, you find Lady Halia lying in bed, soaked in her own sweat. It is cold and raining outside, but the lady is feverish with the same curse that afflicted her husband. Her wet tunic clings to her skin, her hair is disheveled, and all she does is mumble Hans's name as she twists from side to side.

Just as you wonder whatever happened to the children, you hear a faint noise from the adjacent room. A muffled sob, followed by a hurried 'shhh!". The kids have barricaded themselves in their room, and bolted the door from the inside.

What do you do?

"Whence did they come by this curse, and have the children been affected?" Miyana wonders aloud.

OOC:
There's more than enough elixir to go around, yes.

Excellent, exclaims our neolegendary fellow.
Halav offers divine assistance, with administering aid to the lady of the manor.

********** a few days later **********

"I owe you all a debt I can never repay." Lord Hans stands beside his wife at the gate, dressed once more in his noble finery, though he seems different now; more sober, and thoughtful, than his usual merry self. "It's...hard to remember it all clearly. But I know what might have happened if you hadn't arrived when you did. If you didn't risk your lives in order to save us" he looks for a moment at his wife, who rests a hand over his arm. Her face is also pale, and composed, but she manages to give you a faint, grateful smile.

"You won’t see me in those woods again" He says as he looks to the tree line, where the forest begins "...no hunting trophy is worth what I brought upon this house. Should have taken the warning of the people at the village more seriously."

He turns back to look at you, and nods "You’ve done a great service for my family and my people. If you ever find yourselves in Verge again, my hall will be open to you. If there is anything I could do to help you in your journey; you only have to ask"
OOC:
The fates were kind, and both Bowells survived the elixir and are cured of lycanthropy. The children are also fine and safe, and the servants fled before any of them could be hurt.

Miyana nods. "It's what we do," she says, "And I beg your forgiveness for my aggressive actions towards you." It is clear that she is truly regretful.

"Very glad that we could aid you in your time of need." Barns takes in the hospitality easily.

"You have nothing to apologize for! If anything, it is I who have learned to appreciate help from unexpected quarters." Hans once harbored prejudice against the native Traladarans, but now, after one of them saved his life, he could no longer deny that they were far from the superstitious savages he had taken them for.

"I wish you well on your travels" he hesitates, before continuing:

"May your gods watch over you."

"Now is your opportunity!" the voice in Halav’s head speaks to him "Tell him we need his castle as a staging ground for our men. He must prepare for the coming of the beastmen, and be ready to march when we call upon him!"

Given to divine inspiration, Halav says to Hans,

Hey. I do need a favor. There is rumor of beastmen, gathering in wild lands. I know not when they might encroach on civilization, but I intend to recruit fighting men, and women, to oppose their terror. For when that day comes.

Could I use your castle as a staging area?

Hans is a bit caught off guard by the request. "Beastmen? What are you talking about? Not the ones from those Traladaran folk tales?" Even a Thyatian like him, who didn't grow up in Karameikos, knows the gist of the 'song of Halav'. Still, he seems skeptical

"I owe you more than I can ever repay" he finally says after a moment of consideration. Either Will is wrong, and this case, he would never have to host more men in his castle - or Will is right, and in that case, he better do whatever he can to help! "You will have use of my hall, and what few men remain loyal to me. It’s the least I can do after all you’ve done for my family"
