OOC:
I am picturing Zach strongarming Roskelly. Meanwhile, for every two party members, we could seize a halfling by the arms and sort of drag them along. Kind of like how you might support a drunk person while they walk.

That would give us 3 hostages + Roskelly. Does that work?

This is just my idea, mind. I'm happy to hear other opinions!

Not liking the idea of carrying halflings around. Do we need take all of them, let alone more than just the one hostage?

OOC:
I think we should strip them of armor and weapons and any other valuables—that is what they not only intended to do to us, but did to us on our first exit—and just take their leader, Roskelly, with us.

OOC:
I'm fine with just taking Roskelly as our sole captive too. Jacky's occupied with setting the zone in front of the portcullis on fire, though, so any looting will be up to the others.

Also, I suggest you make it quick! I imagine the fire won't keep them for long.

Exactly - thanks Testlum! The first wave of halflings will arrive imminently. And, judging by the sounds of activity beyond the portcullis, others are on their way.

You have time to tie up the halfings and decide which of them you're taking with you. And Jacky has time to lay his fire trap. But if you delay to do anything else, such as searching and looting the sleeping halflings, their fully-awake colleagues are going to arrive before you have a chance to depart.

OOC:
I think Roskelly is the only captive we need, as a leader he's a bigger bargaining chip anyways. Let's skip looting them and just skeedaddle after they're tied up, if the reinforcements stop to release them hopefully it'll be enough for us to slip away.

Also, I have a spare pint of oil in my backpack.

OOC:
Sounds like a plan.

Grim waddles over and helps ol’ Jacky lay his well-played fire trap.
Well now, ye fighter types keep dis Roskelly fella secure,. We can’t be delaying’ longer than we have ta!
Dec 12, 2025 7:03 pm
Zach prods Roskelly forward with his scabbarded sword towards Ellagel, keeping it away from the halflings conniving little hands. All right, keep moving and keep quiet. We will all be better off if we can resolve this without any bloodshed—even yours—but we can't let ourselves be sitting ducks. You will help the Lady Epidermis negotiate, I presume. Correct Roscoe?

When the captive comes near, Jacky will throw an empty small sack over his head. That way, Roskelly won't know where they're taking him. With a gesture, Jacky motions for the others to follow him quickly toward the baboon fresco and the secret passage behind it.

You slip a sack over Roskelly’s head, pull the sleeping halflings to one side (I assume!), and lay the fire trap in front of the portcullis.

And with that, you hurry away, leaving the entrance chamber (and the shouts of many angry halflings) behind as you take the exit in the centre of the southern wall. Upon reaching the fresco of the baboon, you pause to catch your breath.
Avraham says:
You will help the Lady Epidermis negotiate, I presume. Correct Roscoe?
"Not my beef," comes Roskelly’s muffled reply from beneath the sack. "This is between you and Plumthorn."

"The way I see things, Roskelly, it's very much in your interest to help us out here!" Jacky presses down the eyes of the baboon fresco to open the secret passage. "Watch where you put your feet, there's stairs ahead. Back to my point. There has to be a reason we're taking you along instead of emptying your pockets and leaving you in the company of the giant spiders, right?"

Our dwarven fellow gestures at Jacky, whilst glaring at the prisoner.
Aye, ya best listen ta meh friend, ‘ere! Ya know, yer better off alignin’ wid us! We’ll keep ya safe as our own, instead o’ dose infidels dat’d sell ya, right out! Do da right thing, will ya?!

Seriously, Rapunzel, what is the hold that Plumbbob has over you? Isn't he more likely to cut you out given that you were unable to uphold his commands?

Thrudmarr keeps a firm grip on Roskelly's arm as they hurry through the passages, half listening to his friends try to convince the captive to help them and half casting wary glances behind for pursuit. When they reach the baboon fresco and Jacky opens the secret door (assuming it does open), he carefully guides the sack headed halflings down the stairs. "Careful, steps here"
Dec 15, 2025 8:50 am
Roskelly remains silent as Jacky presses the baboon’s eyes, triggering the mechanism that causes the wall to grind inwards and reveal the stairs that lead down to Gog’s cave.

Thrud finds that he has to keep a strong hold on the halfling to stop him from stumbling and falling. With his head covered and his hands tied behind his back, it’s not easy for Roskelly to navigate the stairs.

Is the plan to descend all the way to Gog’s cave?

After making sure the passage is closed behind them, Jacky will keep an eye on Roskelly as they head down. "Shall we go and meet your friend, Zach?"
OOC:
Let's. We can talk to Roskelly at the bottom of the stairs.

Ella hurries along with the party glancing back to ensure there is no immediate pursuit.
OOC:
Ella would shoot a warning shot if there are plenty of halflings on the party’s heels.

It’s slow going navigating the descent with a blind and bound Roskelly, but after 40 minutes of stumbles and stutters, you emerge through the secret door at the bottom of the staircase and into the cavern beyond. There, you pause to rest briefly.

A reminder from the previous post of what you see …
Quote:
Stepping through, you find yourself in a natural cavern. It’s utterly dark and the atmosphere is oppressively damp and humid. The sense of tomb-like stillness is broken only by the sound of running water and the occasional chirrups of cave crickets. From the echoes created by those noises, you get the sense that the chamber is vast.

From the light cast by your lantern, you can see that the floor of the cave is littered with stalagmites. Approximately 10’ ahead, you can see the shore of a dark pool. To your left (east) the cave wall extends for about 10’ before turning to the northeast. To your right, the cave wall heads roughly southwest beyond the range of your lantern’s light. However, in that wall, about 20’ away from you, you can see a ledge that is 20’ above the floor. The roof of the cavern is lost in darkness.

Thrudmarr emerges from the secret door, relieved to finally reach the bottom after carefully guiding the stumbling Roskelly down the long staircase. His arms are tired from keeping the bound halfling from falling. He keeps a firm grip on Roskelly while glancing back toward the secret door. "Hat thieves no follow?"
