Seeing that the first sentry was alerted to Lillit's action, I take sword into hands and go after that sentry so as to not be discovered. I try to approach from the rear to flank the figure and try to stick the sentry through the ribs, hoping he is looking the other way distracted by so many things up to thus point.

Sentry 1 begins to turn back around towards the sound in the bushes when he feels a sharp pain in his side. Llewellyn's blade slips cleanly between his ribs, and he falls to the ground.
OOC:
I assume that people will search the bodies (you have three dead sentries). Here is what you find...
- Three brown robes, although two of them have bloody holes in them
- Three daggers (just standard, if you want them)
- Three pouches that contain blood (1 HP worth)
- And the following crumpled parchment that Sentry 1 was carrying...
Tenants of Faith:

One: Honor our God, and His altars, with blood.

Two: Obey until you can usurp. Listen to red and black robes.

Three: Only the strongest will survive.

Remember, neophytes are not allowed passed the skulls in the Great Hall.
OOC:
That combat was excellent. Great work everyone.

Orm, your turn.

"Perhaps we can continue the deception a bit longer with some of us putting on these robes, see how far it gets us inside? Or try to exchange them for some red and black ones, based on their importance in this note." as he gently kicks one of the downed bodies.
Sep 5, 2025 9:37 am
"That fourth sentry had no tongue and holes around his mouth. There is some crazy dung going on around here."Looking at the the skull"He also dipped his hand in the blood and put his handprint on the skull as he went bye it."
Sep 5, 2025 10:01 am
"It’s good make, that." Hobb says, patting the statue after failing to push it over!

"Aye! Get them robes on you, and take me prisoner! Doubt they take halfling members!" he says, eyeing up the robes and seeming to find them too long!
Sep 5, 2025 12:40 pm
Lillit approaches the cave, now that the sentries have been dispatched, and examines the blood and the skull. Curious, she dips a hand into the blood as well, and touches the skull.
Sep 5, 2025 12:47 pm
Orm sees Lillit examining the blood and walks over. As if from a great distance the whispered words Blood for the Blood God! enter his mind. The dwarf shakes it off and tries to remember if this ritual with the blood and skull appeared in any of his studies.

I shake my head, seeing how my fellow Wayfarers dipped their hands in the blood and placed it on the skull. Hopefully the blood was from animals and not from some potential victim further inside. I wasn't willing to dip my hand inside the blood and engage in the captors' ritual. Wearing the sentries' robes was a decent idea, as long as they weren't too damaged in the melee that we just engaged in, and I looked at the robe the sentry I had dispatched to see how well the robe had fared to see if I could put it on, or if it was too bloodied and torn to make for a decent disguise.
Sep 5, 2025 1:42 pm
OOC:
The robes are not so ruined or tattered that they would not serve as disguises. It's a good idea. So, which three are going to don the robes?

Orm, you do remember something from your studies that would help. Blood rites and a blood god refer to Ramlaat. He is the pillager, the barbaric, the horde. Many orcs worship him and live by the blood rite, a prophecy that says only the strongest will survive a coming doom. And despite Llewellyn's concern, you are pretty sure that the blood in these pouches is not from animals.
Lillit touches the skull with her bloodied hand. She feels a release of energy and senses that the way forward is now opened to her.
OOC:
I will describe the entryway again.
A large skull statue, covered in bloody handprints (including Lillit's now). The statue has an inscription on the side facing away from the door. (Light is needed to properly be able to read it). Many hallways. To the North, you hear faint snoring. To the East, you hear many voices raised in celebration (which is also the direction that Sentry 4 went), to the South, you hear barking and fearful cries.

The hallways and the rest of this cave are plunged in darkness. It seems that members of this cult can see in the dark.
OOC:
I'll give y'all a moment to plan, choose a direction, and decide who will hold the torch and then we will return to initiative order so everyone gets a turn "around the table."
Sep 5, 2025 3:57 pm
Nikk looks over the tattered remains of the cultist's robes with distaste. "Don't suppose they have a lot of goblin members either? Probably better served on someone else.

East is were we need to go, but perhaps it might be wise to get our bearings first, check out the other tunnels to ensure our escape does not become blocked?"

"This is an altar to the blood god Ramlaat. Mostly orc worshipped, not sure why these humans are involved."

one of your pals, father? Sounds like he'd make for an awful drinking companion.

"We need light to move ahead, no way around it." Orm unclips the prepped lantern from his side, and moves the knob a bit to light it. He keeps the shutter down about halfway to limit the amount for now. Stepping over to the altar's side, he reads the words inscribed.
Sep 5, 2025 8:28 pm
OOC:
Smart idea, Orm. The lantern will be nice since you will be able to open and close the shutters based on need.

Here is how I am going to handle light because a 60-minute timer for the lantern isn't realistic in play-by-post. I straight-up stole this from Rumo. Each round, I will roll a die to see if the light source goes out. I will start with a d8, when I hit a 1, then I will go down to a d6, then a d4. When (if) I hit a 1 on a d4, then the light goes out, and another one will need to be lit, or I get to spread chaos. Hopefully, that works for people. But we will have to stay in initiative order to make it work.
Inscription on the Statue:
The price of entry is blood, and it shall be paid, one way or another...
Sep 5, 2025 10:39 pm
Ivar surely doesn't like that statue one bit and not want to put his hand in the blood but will if he has to."I will don one of the robes."

OOC:
Let's vote on the direction the group will go in first.

Which direction are the Wayfinders going?

North: Faint Snoring
East: Many voices raised in celebration
South: Barking, fearful cries
Sep 6, 2025 4:41 am
OOC:
I was wondering how you'd implement the real-time effect w. light. Works for me.
Sep 6, 2025 12:55 pm
OOC:
Yes, it works well in our other game.
Sep 6, 2025 2:25 pm
"Could our captive lot be to the South? I hear dreadful crying in that direction; perhaps it is best we travel there. Perhaps they are held in a pen, there, with a fee holding them back, guarding them. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good." I ask, proposing the idea to the Wayfarers. "They sound like they are celebrating their ill-gotten gains now, so the moment to recover our people is now, while they are distracted."
Sep 6, 2025 5:08 pm
Lillit takes up one of the robes and dons it, then gestures to the south, saying, "Yes, our captives may be there… Let us go."
Sep 6, 2025 5:59 pm
"Agreed, if we can save the captives and lessen our chances of being found, all the better."

"Stay alert." Orm whispers as he leads the way.

OOC:
Alrighty, we will keep the same initiative order as before, only we will have Orm act first as y'all move into the room.
1. Orm
2. Ivar
3. Nikk
4. Hobb
5. Lillit
6. Llewellyn

If we get into battle again, then we will reroll.

I have Ivar, Lillit, and Llewellyn disguised in the robes (I couldn't see who took the third one, but it makes sense that Llewellyn would, so I am running with it.)

The following characters have been infected with Blood Lust: Ivar, Nikk, Hobb, Llewellyn, and Orm.
Blood Lust
Use your action to attack the nearest creature (with ADV), or take 1d4 damage.
OOC:
So, if you don't attack something/someone with your action, then you will roll a 1d4. I will let each of you handle that.
As the Hillshire Wayfarers approach the room to the south, the sounds of barking and cruel laughter grow in volume. Orm opens the door slowly and closes the shutter on his lantern so it only emits a little light.

Two red-robed figures sit at a wooden table, jeering at an old woman cowering in the southwest corner of the room from an emaciated dog chained to the south wall. Four cages line the west wall, one holds another dog, and the rest are empty.
[ +- ] Kennels
OOC:
W = Old Woman
Red = Red Robed Cultists
D = Dogs
Door = Door

I give you the map image to help you visualize, but you don't need to count squares. Everyone in this room is near. We can theater of the mind this.

Alright Orm, what do you do?
