OOC:
You can give me another Survival roll to try and track down the griffon.

Koram looks for further signs of the winged creatures.

Iroven kept looking up trying to make sure that they are not ambushed by the griffin while also looking for any feathers or other possible signs on the ground that might suggest the presence of the creature

Rolls

Survival (Wis) - (1d20+9)

(10) + 9 = 19

Iroven is able to track down the griffons. You can spot two large bird nests some 70 feet up the mountain. You can see a griffon trying to hide nearby, ready to pounce should you investigate the nests.

"What should we do? They are just animals, after all, and we are invading their home. However, they may be the key to removing those poltergeists from harming any other travelers that descend from the valley."

"We might need to passivity them for a bit if the following come through this way. Otherwise lets leave them along and make sure they don't hunt us while we scout the area" Tomas replies

Iroven looked at the griffin's nest, wondering what to do about it. "Has anyone ever tamed a wild griffin?" He looked at Artesia, "Do you perhaps have any spell to communicate with these beasts?" He then turned to Koram and said, "I don't know how we can deal with this. Maybe we can scare them away, perhaps?"

"If I had time to rest and prepare, perhaps. But as it stands now, I have nothing."
Sep 10, 2025 5:21 am
"Well, if that is an option, Artesia, we could camp for the night and give it a shot. Griffons are predators, but I have heard they are rather smart creatures. If we had a way of speaking with them, we might resolve this without a fight. They could, perhaps be swayed to leave our Following in peace and even harry our enemies when they eventually give pursuit."

OOC:
So the plan is to back off and try some spells the following day. Which spell are you thinking off. I know Speak With Animals is a primal spell in 2nd edition, but there may be other spells I haven't thought of that could do similar things.

OOC:
You would know that Griffons are animals with an animal intellect. Though stubborn can be trained, and they can use canny tactics when needed. Ideas to deal with them could be a Calm spell, or possibly just using Nature to calm them.

OOC:
I was still living in the land of 1e, forgetting that speak with animals wasn't available to her. In that case, I think that using Nature to calm them is a viable effort.
Sep 28, 2025 4:46 pm
Koram defers to the others on how to proceed, knowing that his own skills with the natural world are limited.
Sep 28, 2025 5:26 pm
With a slightly worried look, Artesia tells the others to hold position while she edges forward towards the griffon. Moving with slow, deliberate movements, she cautiously takes some jerky from her pack and tosses it in the animal's direction, all the while speaking soothingly. "We're not going to hurt you or disturb your nests. We're just passing through."

Rolls

Nature (Wis) - (1d20+11)

(15) + 11 = 26

You are able to calm the griffon enough for it to return to its nest, though it watches you warily. You can see it guarding eggs, so that would usually make them more agressive.

You also see a few long abandoned nests, and in one of them you see an ancient religious symbol depicting a circle ringed by squares.

Artesia considers the strange symbol.

Rolls

Religion (Wis) - (1d20+11)

(2) + 11 = 13

As you pick up the symbol, you are suddenly bombarded with a vision. You see the circle of standing stones where you fought the poltergeists. This time though you see no ghosts though, an elderly priest looks at you with surprise. Moments later you stand in front of the abandoned nest again. You cannot recall what deity the symbol belongs to, but you can remember than man you saw in your vision wearing a the same symbol on chain around his neck.
Oct 3, 2025 2:17 am
Artesia shakes her head to clear it. "A man, wearing this symbol, standing before the standing stones," she says breathlessly.
Oct 3, 2025 6:11 am
"Perhaps returning this symbol to the standing stones will be what is needed to quell the undead spirits," Koram suggests.
