Round Three
(this is preceded by round two)

"That hurt, you bloody serpent sucker!" Lyrel batters Lhari's mace aside, then sinks the blade into the man's chest.
Lhari takes 10 piercing damage and dies kicking on her sword.

Hamiff, in the dark around the bend, doesn't know Lhari's fate, but he makes a snap decision whether to stay in the face of horrifying magic or to run for safety. His training is to leave none of his companions behind; he moves forward, feeling his way in the darkness until he can see to attack Theran again. But Aanbo, watching him carefully in the dark, takes careful aim and swings, catching Hamiff in the back of the head as he leaves.
Hamiff takes 15 bludgeoning damage.
Hamiff's bolt whizzes past Theran; Hamiff drops the crossbow and draws his mace, grimly ready to enact revenge on Lhari's murderers.
OOC:
Everyone else (other than Lyrel) can take their turn now.

Hamiff is unsteady on his feet after Aanbo's heavy blow. Chase draws a white-fletched arrow, nocks, pulls, aims, and releases all in one motion. The arrow punches into Hamiff's chest, and then the arrow explodes, igniting the man's body and clothing.
Hamiff takes 11 damage and dies on fire.

Myrtha hears Hamiff’s run-in with Aanbo in the darkness ahead of her, and urges Arya to light the way, while she tries to close the distance and attack.
OOC:
Not sure if she can get to Hamiff and attack. I’m actually sorry for Lhari, who survived our first encounter (he surrendered) only to die in this dark hole. She’ll try to knock Hamiff out, since he might have useful information about the goings-on above.

Round three, completed

Hamiff is unsteady on his feet after Aanbo's heavy blow. Chase draws a white-fletched arrow, nocks, pulls, aims, and releases all in one motion. The arrow punches into Hamiff's chest, and then the arrow explodes, igniting the man's body and clothing.
Hamiff takes 11 damage and dies on fire.

Myrtha follows the light of the fire to find the fight over.

Each PC gains 25 experience points (XP) for defeating these cultists again.

Aanbo sighs, now aware of the death of the cultists. Rather than dwell on the loss of life, he decides to check on the exit above to see if others are there. He taps Myrtha on the shoulder and indicates his intention with a tilt of his head.
Sep 14, 2025 3:53 pm
Myrtha had the same thought, and rushed to the exit doorway, with spear and shield ready. She urged Mother Arkon to come along, providing light as needed.
Sep 14, 2025 4:28 pm
Chase will search these bodies quickly to see if they have anything worth while.
OOC:
I take these fire arrows are one use only?

Upon witnessing the last evil invader die, nervous Half-Wood Elf Morton asks, "Were these evil cultist attempting to kill us Dungeon Busters?" and he steadily views on and doesn't attempt to move to do any investigate or much of anything else as the slight whiff of brimstone sulfur smell dissipates form several casting of eldritch blast showing his noticeable and blessed demonic connection.

"These are the two we let live the last time we were here. We left them tied up."

At least these two sure didn't. And appears they might have been coming down here for the goods that they have stored here that we discovered. And my thoughts should make them ours (The goods/loot) before leaving here."

Seeing Lyrel race from the room, Ember briefly wonders why she is remaining behind, but then moves towards Chase, planning to come up right behind him, where she can see action.

OOC:
Yes, they get burned up in the use.

Lyrel uses the Lhari's robe to clean her blade. Is a beautiful elven short sword and she spends time maintain it.
What were they doing down here. Did they say anything before it all kicked off?
She flips Lhari's robe away, so see what he was carrying other then weapons.

Aanbo and Myrtha move to the exit, with Arya following to provide light for the fighting woman. They move past the dead body that Aanbo vaulted during the fight and proceed to the door. The door is closed, but not barred. Opening it, they find no one in the secret basement room, though there is a lit torch stuck in a sconce over by the secret door in the west wall. There is large empty sack by the door with leather straps sewn onto it. It's the sort of thing that two people might use to carry lumber, light timber, or any other load that is long and unwieldy. There is a heavy crossbow sitting on the table.

Chase and Lyrel search around under the cloaks that Hamiff and Lhari wore. They find that Hamiff had 8 more bolts in a quiver for his heavy crossbow in addition to a mace still slung from his belt. In addition to his mace and dying torch, Lhari carried a quiver of 10 crossbow bolts and a small sack of coins and other valuables.

Ember joins Chase, Lyrel, Morton, Lyrel, and Theran in that central room with the dead cultists. The torches won't last for much longer, but it will be longer if someone picks them up off the ground (both Chase and Lhari's torches are guttering out in the dirt).

Aanbo spends a few seconds to ensure that no one else is in the secret basement, then moves as quietly as possible towards the secret door to listen for the presence of others upstairs.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+3)

(11) + 3 = 14

Aanbo explores more of the secret basement room. Like the tunnel door, the secret door is closed but not latched. Without opening it, Aanbo listens carefully. There is no sound of activity in the basement on the other side, nor does the monk hear the footsteps of anyone in Bertram's room above him.
Sep 18, 2025 4:12 pm
Perhaps hopeful that Lhari and Hamiff were working only as a pair, Aanbo decides to go back and investigate the dead body he stumbled over. He passes Myrtha and Arya to make his report of not sensing any other cultists above, as well as his intention to see if the corpse is anyone they know.
Sep 18, 2025 8:24 pm
Chase will pick up his torch after he shoulders his bow. He will also grab the small sack with valuables in to see what it in there. He could care less for the crossbow or bolts. No real archer would even consider using that contraption.
