Lyrel is continuing her chant to extend her magic sight, while sitting in her circle. She draws her sword, but otherwise stays calm, confident that the DB's can handle a simple snake

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+4)

(18) + 4 = 22

Aug 14, 2025 9:40 am
Chase will move up beside Aanbo keeping himself between the snake and Lyrel as she continues doing whatever it is she doing and attack the snake with his short sword.

Rolls

to hit, damage - (1d20+5, 1d6+3piercing)

1d20+5 : (6) + 5 = 11

1d6+3piercing : (4) + 3 = 7

Myrtha rushes forward hoping to strike a decisive blow against the serpent, despite the crowded field ahead of her.
OOC:
Not sure Myrtha can get a hit in considering that Aanbo, Chase, and Arya are already engaging the creature. She might be able to use the spear as a reach or ranged weapon, though her allies might be providing the snake with cover. Please adjust applicable modifiers if this attack is not a melee attack.

Rolls

Spear +1 to hit, damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d20+6 : (3) + 6 = 9

1d6+4 : (4) + 4 = 8

OOC:
Eldritch blast for 2 HP.

Round one, completed.

Lyrel continues her ritual, casting Detect Magic.
Ember whips out her rapier as she leaps to her feet and misses the twisting snake.
Myrtha pushes past the others to attack with the spear over Aanbo's shoulder and misses the snake.
"You think it's a coincidence to have a big snake in a place with a big snake statue?" Aanbo says to her over his shoulder, missing his strikes with both staff and palm.
"Strike it down with sacred flame!" Arya implores Pelor, but the snake dodges the column of light that beams down into the collapsed mound!
Chase moves past Myrtha to stand between Ember and Aanbo, but his flashing stabs with the shortsword do not manage to connect with the undulating reptile.
Theran watches sardonically. It's just a snake.

Round two
(this is preceded by round one, followed by round three)

Having drawn her sword, Lyrel continues her chanting, using the blade to trace patterns in the packed dirt floor.
Beads of sweat break out on Morton's smooth brow as he holds up his hand and continues to let the demonic power rip through him.
The mudviper takes 2 force damage as it is hit again!

The mudviper didn't see where the two blows that hit it originated (that is Morton), so it lashes out at the one who disturbed its home again: the dwarf!
But Myrtha reaches around the monk with her shield, and the snake's fangs bounce off, gouging a long scratch in the paint!

Ember stabs with her rapier as the snake is snapping back to strike at Aanbo again. The tip of the blade skewers the reptile and it twists and writhes in pain.
The mudviper takes 12 slashing damage!

Recognizing that the flickering torchlight and the shadows of the people struggling with the snake in front of her are throwing off her aim (and the spear over a person's shoulder is better for a cavalry charge), Myrtha opts to use a different weapon. She yanks the handaxe (that she retrieved from the undead's body earlier) from her belt and flings it over Aanbo's shoulder at the enormous snake's sinuous form. But the shadows still confound her aim and the hatchet sinks into the loose dirt harmlessly.

The Earthshaker monk Aanbo whirls, sways, and leaps to avoid the snake's darting head and piercing fang strikes.

"May your sacred light shine and subdue this beast!" Arya evokes Pelor's Sacred Flame again
The mudviper is seared for 4 radiant damage!

Raising his torch a little higher to get a better view, Chase stabs again!
The mudviper takes 5 piercing damage!

Theran watches and waits. All things die in time.

OOC:
@runekyndig - I made an assumption about Lyrel's actions this turn based on last turn; you can always choose to leave off the spellcasting if you want to declare a different action.
The mudviper didn't see where the two blows that hit it originated (that is Morton), so it lashes out at the one who disturbed its home again: the dwarf!
But Myrtha reaches around the monk with her shield, and the snake's fangs bounce off, gouging a long scratch in the paint!
OOC:
@matmaisan - I assumed you'd want to use your reaction to protect Aanbo. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
OOC:
@WhtKnt @matmaisan @CancerMan @mathias0077 can all post their turns now, and @MaJunior can join in with initiative and a turn if he wants Theran to get involved.

Chase swearing "Bags!!" after his miss will refocus and attack again. It so much easier with his bow. He will have to spend more time with the blade after this mission.

Aanbo tries to keep the snake's attention on himself, poking the ground with his staff while the others make their attacks. His bare feet dance to avoid the poisonous fangs.

OOC:
That is a very fair assumption. Unless it is turning out to be more than just a snake, she will keep up the ritual.

right?

OOC:
@WhtKnt - remember to roll 1d6 for additional Sneak Attack damage in situations like this (Ember is attacking a target that is adjacent to another party member) where it applies. In my experience, the "ganging up on an enemy" trigger for Sneak Attack happens far more often than the primary "attacking with advantage" trigger, so keep that in mind. For the sake of keeping the game moving, I'll roll it this time.

If it works better for you, an alternative would be that you can just default to rolling Sneak Attack damage with the rest of the damage dice, and I can handle applying it in the appropriate situations. What do you think?

Rolls

Ember sneak attack damage - (1d6)

(2) = 2

Aug 16, 2025 4:11 pm
OOC:
I'll just roll it when I believe it is appropriate, and you can apply it or disregard it as necessary.

Mother Arkon draws her hammer and approaches, prepared to wallop the mudviper...but unlike Myrtha's spear, her warhammer can't reach past her companions to hit the reptile. A sigh escapes her lips and a frown mars her classic beauty, and she calls upon Pelor once more. "May your sacred light shine and subdue this beast!" The searing light flashes down toward the snake.

Rolls

Mudviper DEX save DC13 - (1d20+4)

(7) + 4 = 11

Sacred Flame radiant damage - (1d8)

(4) = 4

Aug 17, 2025 12:57 am
OOC:
@matmaisan - are you on and able to post for Myrtha? I know it was sporadic for you for a bit; if you aren't able to post today I'll have Myrtha do another spear attack. That will be the end of round two.

@runekyndig and @WanderOne can start round three now, before the mudviper acts.

Round three
(this is preceded by round two)

Confident that the others have it handled and tuning the fight out as a distraction, Lyrel remains focused on her ritual, chanting "Manifestare Occulta! Manifestare Occulta!" at measured intervals as she assumes the different poses that the magic requires, incorporating her sword in the ritual.

Morton struggles to keep the open portal to the Abyss fully under his control. The heat is growing more intense, but his hand shakes so that the blast hits the collapsed mound, showering Aanbo, Chase, Ember, and the angry mudviper with dirt.

Hurt and confused by so many attacks at once, the territorial mudviper coils back to choose a target. Hurt most by the rogue, the mudviper strikes out at Ember! But the rogue's sword has pinned the massive snake's body to the dirt, and its strike is pulled short, poison fangs slashing the air uselessly in front of her!
